Button Mashing. Sad to see it go?

So button mashing is out along with blisters and broken controllers. It may be an outdated system and change was needed but I for one am kinda sad to say goodbye.

Wasn't button mashing the reason why Track and Field was the best game? Just removing that kinda feels like they're cutting out a major mechanic of that genre.

That said I'll buy this game if they implement QWOP.

Damn I'm so depressed.

I'm still enjoying the game but I'm defiantly disappointed they changed the control system. Doesn't feel no where near as satisfying to play as Beijing 2008. One upside to it though is I can play it in bed when the missus goes to sleep without disturbing her lol.

I'm on the fence here for track and field events I'm glad it's gone, but then for some of the other sports it would have really helped.

I was hoping there might be a control scheme to revert to Beijing Doesn't feel much of a competitive game with mates as it use to

to be honest il still enjoy playing the game as its new and shiny but im genuinely upset they have taken the button mashing out, used to love meeting up with a few pals getting our drink on and then seeing who could smash the craziest! we all linked up again for day of release on this and after 2 events went straight back to beijing, not to mention they have taken some events out, why not keep the same base with a tweak here and there with a new event or 2 thrown in, job done, nice one sega!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lost the edge

The game has lost it's edge in that the button bashing/stick waggle made it feel more competitive when playing with friends .... to go faster than him you have to bash/waggle harder ..... no it feels like it's almost luck of the draw to stay in the lines.

Also doesn't feel like you are going very fast, all in all I'm glad I rented it first as I won't be buying it .... still have Beijing 2008 though
Willing to help with any and all achievements until we both have them all

I've always enjoyed the Olympics and Track and Field games, I know they're not the best or deepest in terms of simulation (I'd love to see a sports-RPG type game where you pick a discipline, train and do qualifying events around the world, get endorsed to get better equipment etc.), but they're a lot of fun, especially for on-the-couch multiplayer (not quite the same online). And I've always been pretty good at the button mash, without the aid of t-shirts or towels or other tricks, much to the chagrin of my friends. So I've lost my competitive edge somewhat, but it's refreshing to see them try something different.

While I did enjoy this game I didn't find it anywhere near as much fun as the older games with the button mashing/stick waggling antics. I didn't realise before buying it that it had been taken out.

The new control system does work well and no doubt will make the game more attractive to a wider audience but it isn't anywhere near as challenging as Beijing

I've always preferred the Winter games to the Summer, because they relied less on button mashing, so I was thrilled to find out that it was mostly gone from this one.

Taking it takes away the edge. for online it should be there. the button skill tap now means all top times will be almost identical

Not button mashing at all when compared to some others. One of my favourite games ever is the first I played which was Olymoic Gold 92 on the megadrive. Sheer button mashing but it worked. Was ace!

On this you rarely have to button mash, you have to be steady with it too.

Im glad its still here to an extent... i think having the power bar is good in 100m as if you go to hard your character will mess up their stride just like a racer could do in real life (for example usain bolts slight stumble in 100m round 1 qualifiers)

I was sad to see they had taken it out! Track and Field was a big part of my childhood with my mates and the button smashing made it so much fun!
Miss the days where i could spend hours playing Xbox....

I'm happy to see the back of pure button mashing as I was never very good at it.
