Stuck On Black Screen

Anyone else having problems launching this game? Whenever I hit new game, I can hear audio for a few seconds then I'm stuck on a black screen forever. Someone mentioned installing the media pack for N versions fixed the problem but since I'm using a non-N version, that doesn't apply to me. I tried installing the pack anyway and it wouldn't even let me. I tried installing the latest drivers for my video card and still nothing. Tried reinstalling the game several times. Also, I'm not running it in a virtual machine. Any suggestions?

I'm also having problems where the game freezes on start.

If someone can help us, please post the solution.

UPDATE: Mine was having some connection issues, I let it like 30 minutes, and
when I came back it was inside the game. So, it is worth trying to wait a little longer.
Now, waiting for the update.

You mean letting it sit at the black screen? I'm currently staring at it now. Will report back in 30+ mins.

Edit: Kicked me back to the start screen after a couple minutes. I'm just destined to never play this game.

Open up the Device Manager (use the search if you can't find it), under Display Adapters right click on your video card and click Update Driver Software. Click on Browse my computer..., then click on Let me pick..., and then click on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and Next. The game should boot after that installs.

Whoa, that was fast. It actually helped, but i got shitty resolution on my desktop(1024x768 instead of 1440x900) but i changed the drivers to those that were installed by microsoft while instaling system. I had them updated from ATI site but seems like there was problem with them.

Anyway, thanks You very much

The driver thing didn't work for me. Still black screen. Might try letting it sit for awhile

Mine is acting the same way. If I let it sit for a while (maybe half an hour) and flip to the desktop and back, it works, but it seems to skip the introduction. Also, any time I would expect FMV or some sort of video transition, it seems to lock up again for a little while and then drop me into the next location after some more desktop flipping.

My best guess is that for some reason the video elements wont play, perhaps some windows component not installed or malfunctioning?

I was having the same problem, even tried updating to latest nvidia drivers.
finally got it to work by actually rolling back to a way earlier version of the drivers.
it failed using the v314.07 and worked using the v310.90 not sure why.
