Discussion about the first ever x360a Ambassador Tournament!

Let's discuss about the first ever x360a Ambassador tournament right here.
Feel free to post your own ideas about what the tournament could be about?

An example is a Completion Competition but since Subscribers and Staff just had their own maybe we should have something different!

This thread is open for everyone to see but only Ambassadors are allowed to discuss. If you'd like to join the Ambassador program, head over HERE.

Posts from folks who are not x360a Ambassadors will be deleted without questions.

Awesome.

Let's pick 5 random, retail games from a genre everyone is comfortable with and race to complete those games. Huge flaw, some people might have already played/finished chosen games. I can't think of anything else besides the generic gamerscore/completion competitions right now. I know this idea can't actually be performed but I just put it out there anyway.

Hmm. Well let me start with a few questions before I delve into my ideas.

1) How are the "shooter" tournaments done? (like RSV2 or COD for example)

2) How were the previous UNO tournaments set up?

3) Instead on the general "completion" tourney, could it be genre specific? (such as trying for the most RPG's)

4) Kind of along those same lines, why not have an "arcade crazy" or "over achiever" tourney where those involved attempt to complete the most cheevos on those lists?

5) If wanting to have a multiplayer tournament, would it help if those interested had a list handy of games in their possession to find the most common games?

I'll stop there...for now.

Hmm, I say we put a twist on the Completion Competition and have a Competition for...

Completing 5 games from 5 different genres within say...5-10 weeks.
  • Fighting
  • Action-Adventure/Sandbox/Open-World
  • FPS
  • TPS
  • RPG

Yeah that would be quite a big problem if someone had completed 4 of those games already before the tournament even starts

1) I have no clue

2) I have no clue

3) This could be possible. RPG maybe wouldn't be most wanted genre but we could vote for the genre!

4) Good idea. Though it might fall into the same problem than B A R 4 D's suggestion. Someone who doesn't have any of the quirky achievements could nail easily 50 from there and then someone could already have 75 of those achievements. Making it a bit unfair for others.

5) Absolutely. If we were gonna hold a tournament for multiplayer game we could also at first get a list of games people are willing to play and then do a vote to see what game it would finally be

Good ones Grifter!

Now this would open it up a little more! More chances for people.
OR how about choosing one genre and have a Competition on who gets most completions in that genre? We could disallow Windows Phone games if you guys would like , to make it a bit more balanced

To build on this idea, just make "5" the magic number across the board and the 5 genres more general to include more games.

Example: Complete 5 games from each of the 5 genres during these 5 weeks. (list specific dates)

-Action/adventure
-Fighting
-Role Playing
-Shooters
-Sports

I suggest another completion competiton so Jappe and Jamie go bankrupt lol.
I suggest a knockout GSL. If we have for example 40 entrants the lowest GS gain each week get knocked out. Each weeks starts fresh with knockouts each week. The final week would see the most consistent scorers go through. Winner of the last week is the champion.

I like the sound of this!

Also, multiplayer competitions sound fun. No achievements are necessary and we could do singles or teams.

Sounds good Though it might be a bit too much to ask someone to complete only 5 RPGs in 5 weeks

Hah! Well I won't be taking part in the Ambassadors tournament for now
I'm just going to run it and be the judge.

I like that Knockout GSL idea. Though maybe it would be better to eliminate the lowest scoring teams for a few weeks and then let the rest (maybe 3?) race for the top spot for couple weeks.

That would once again bring some balance to the end of the competition

I still disagree with this, even after all the complaints on the subforums... There's far more quick games on the 360 worth a lot more points than there is on the phone. During my first GSL I exhausted the WP marketplace of quick games and only netted around 5000:gsicon doing so (I'm sure some of my teammates will remember). Right now I've got 54 WP games to finish off, plus some I haven't started, none of which I consider to be competition material.

And when you limit one piece of hardware you really have to figure out where to draw the line. Limit Win8 because not everyone's upgraded? Limit GFWL because not everyone has capable hardware? How about kinect because not everyone has the play space? Limit people to games from one region of their choice? Heck, how do you stop someone from double boxing some games? There's really no good way to draw a line in the sand here. And in the end the competitors willing to invest the most time and money, be it in software or hardware, are likely going to come out on top.

More on topic... I'm definitely in favour of the Knockout GSL

I'm thinking individual rather than teams depending on the number of entrants.

Pairs could work, too.

EDIT: I think it would also be fun to have a game "night" for Ambassadors. We figure out a good time ahead of time and a bunch of us can get together and play something like Halo 4 for fun and not achievements. Just an idea.

I think a game night would be perfect. This way we can see who is really being active about the role and not just looking for a award. That way we get an idea how many people are willing to throw down in the tournament.

Would be a good idea but someone else would need to run them since I don't use voice communication on XBL. That doesn't mean I'm inactive though, does it?

Whether it's teams, pairs, or individuals I like this idea. But if it were say 40 entrants then we'd either have to have teams or pairs and/or knockout daily or every other day. I'm sure there's no time limit, but we surely wouldn't want to have this going on for 40 weeks.

Good ones Grifter!
Here's my list of multiplayer games. To be clear, it doesn't always have to be traditional "P vs. P" multiplayer for possible tourneys. I'll use my ME3 All-Star board as a generic example: LINK

Retail

Assassin's Creed Bro.
Assassin's Creed Rev.
Assassin's Creed III
Battlefield BC 1 & 2
Battlefield 3
Call of Duty MW 1 & 2
Civilization Revolution
Gears of War 1,2,3
Halo 3, ODST, Reach
Halo 4
Left 4 Dead 2
Madden '10, '12
Mass Effect 3
Mortal Kombat
NASCAR 2011
NBA 2k11
NCAA Football '10,'11,'12
NHL '11
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2

Arcade

Battlefield 1943
Harm's Way
Magic: The Gathering (DotP)
Nexuiz
Texas Hold 'em
UNO
Worms 2: Armageddon

(doing this from memory so may not be my complete list)

The competition probably lasts 4-5 weeks. GSL has usually been 8 weeks if I remember correctly. One month would be good amount of time for one competition since it would allow the next competition to be held faster

If we get a lot of entrants I guess we need to make those eliminations more often than once a week.

I know it's been done before (I think before I joined the site) but I would be all over this! It's so hard to get into some good games anymore, so many fond memories for this game... Doesn't even have to be an official tournament. Even like a community playdate or something would be fun!

Burnout Paradise is a great game with a few friends. Was in a boosting session last Sat. night that turned into a 5 hour session of us doing challenges and just being crazy/weird. Hilarity ensued and it was probably the most fun I've had online in a game in a LONG time.

My schedule is kind of messed up, but I would love to join in a playdate for Burnout Paradise as well. Haven't played it in years, but it remains my favorite racing title on the platform.

This could be a challenge cause we all own different games....

I like racing games, there tons of fun and it wouldn't be too crazy. NFS MW (even though lots of people hated it)

Halo 4 would be fun. One of those youtube games....on a user created level.

Why not have a thread for listing all of our mulitplayer games to help set play dates for ambassadors?

Could also make it easy to refer to for multiplayer tourneys.

On that note, based on Carmona's post, I'll throw out an official play date for Halo 4. All those interested in playing custom maps and/or gametypes, ambassador play date this Saturday (Feb. 9th). I'll be available most of the day from 8am-10pm central time.

I don't have Burnout Paradise.

Just to recap, because there's a few ideas being thrown around.

1. An Ambassador Gaming Night, with games such as Burnout Paradise, Halo 4, Assassin's Creed 3, Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead or even Rock Band 2. Since Jappe doesn't/can't host that, I wouldn't mind being in charge of putting together a Gaming Night for either Rock Band, Halo 4, ACIII or even Call of Duty.

2. A Completion Comp. that would last for 4-8 weeks, in which Jappe would put together and judge. Depending on the amount of entries, it could be teams of 2 instead of individual teams. At the end of the 2nd or 3rd day, the team/person with the lowest completion rate/gamerscore will be knocked out.

3. Another Completion Comp. that would last 5 weeks, in which entrants would have to complete 1 game from 5 different genres in those 5 weeks. Genres would be Fighting, Racing, Sports, RPG, and FPS.

With that said, should we 'vote' on which on these we like best?

I'm down for that play date! I'll shoot you a friend request when I get home later tonight.

It is probably too soon for voting since we're still on the first day of discussing ideas.

Sounds good. If anyone doesn't wish to send FR, just message for invite on Saturday when you're on.

Along those lines, we can rotate "party leader" after each match so everyone gets an opportunity to show off their creations.

Would a list of those playing help? Kinda like boosting sessions?

Ex:
1- Grifter x360a
2- xhunter x360a
3-
