Why is it such a big deal that this game is free?

I'm seeing headlines like "first free-to-play game on XBLA" and such, and I'm a little confused and/or wondering if these people are stupid. Granted, there's nothing blockbuster, but we've had free arcade games before: Dash of Destruction, 1 vs 100, Harm's Way, Yaris (lol), Hexic, Doritos Crash Course, and Totemball (if you have a cam).

Maybe I'm missing something.

You're confusing the term "free-to-play" as being the same as "free." F2P generally uses a free game with micro-transactions to still garner revenue. The games you listed are just free promotional games.
