M1911, go away!

Why does the M1911 pistol resolutely refuse to stay in the backpack? Just playing towards the end of the Snake Eater, and I accidentally choose it from my weapons menu and shoot a guy in the head!

Obviously I meant to use the Mk22, the icon of which looks practically identical. About an hour of gametime lost for my 'no-kills' run .

Actually, it's the cutscene itself that makes that happen. It seems that Big Boss likes to use the M1911 during many videos, so the only way to avoid that is to stay sharp.

For many cut scenes it's the default weapon that Snake is holding so it auto equips it. Its been like this every game, and its just as annoying in every single one.

I also had this happen and it was really irritating. Its way more likely to happen in MGS3 because Lethal and None lethal weapons don't have colour coding like in MGS2. Oh well. I got around it by making sure the suppressor was always off on the M1911 to make sure it was visually different when trying to fast swap.

The best way to do it is to not put it in the backpack so that you always think about it and dont make the mistake, and as said above take off the suppresor.

I never had a problem, usually due to knowing the difference between the M1911A1 and the Mk22, I always had the 1911 equipped even on the pacifist playthrough, to shoot electric fences and such.

Besides I used the EZ gun so it was easier to notice.

Snake is holding it during the cutscenes, so the game reverts to it as your default weapon to create realism.

are you implying you can remove it from your backpack?

of course one solution if you hate the gun so much is to simply fire off all the bullets and do so whenever you pick up new ones that way even if it gets equipped you can't accidentally fire it.

Same here lost a little over an hour to when i realized the guy i just shot int eh face wasn't sleeping but dead.

Started checking my inventory after every set of cut scenes after that.

Did the same myself couple of times. Only used M1911 to disable electric fences. Just had to get in the habit of checking weapon selection after cutscenes.
