Insanity in a bag.

I want to know which crazy person decided on the way the inventory works in Skyrim.

The dual segmented page setup Oblivion used when taking and placing items in containers was so much better, we now have a layout in which the list seems totally random. Some sections appear to be listed alphabetically, some by item and some by both. Then sometimes some random item jumps in somewhere that's completely different.

The REALLY daft part is if you make a potion with more than 2 effects or a long description the text can be very hard to read, especially if you don't have a HD tv. The game provides a way to examine the item more closely with a zoom-in and spin feature but keep the description so tiny as to cause problems reading it. This is just as bad when you're trying to craft something in the Hearthfire houses, especially the alchemy and enchanting tables. What's required was very hard to read until I got a new HD tv I ended up having to look up the requirements on the site.

Ok, to get back to the point. It's a real shame Bethesda didn't use a system more like Oblivion where any containers you use had sections split into all the parts your inventory is; weapons, apparel, potions etc etc.

Finding some things drives me nuts and now we have the houses with the cellar my new problem is remembering what's been split up into which container

Its been a while since I've played, but, if I remember correctly, herbs and potions are always in alpha order. Other items not so much. And even on HD tv, its still hard to read the high value potion names.

I used the Whiterun home (easiest house to manage and fast travel to, prior to heartfire), as an example one type of item per chest.

  • Main floor Cupboard - Smithing and misc materials
  • Bedroom Chest 1 - Weapons
  • Bedroom Chest 2 - Armor/Apparel
  • End table - Books
  • End Table - stuff to save important
Some will list items in Alphabet order others with mix up , no idea why

Sometimes taking all into personal inventory and placing them back would sort them.

Now I just carry everything so don't need to worry which house/chest I left something in.

I wish you could sort equipment like in Dragon Quest. I don't think the inventory is terrible, but I do think that you should be able to alphabetically sort equipment so you don't waste 5 minutes looking for the freakin' Sapphire Dragon Claw.
