Introduction
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct should be an enjoyable and relativily short completion. Many will come through just playing and many others are extremely easy to unlock. However, some achievements may take some planning to unlock.

Playthrough 1
There is no difficulty in this game so you won't have to worry about that. Most achievements will be unlocked through natural progression.

This is what you will need to do to unlock all of the achievements in one playthrough.
  • *Need thread for travel locations*
  • Drive all cars (need guide)
  • Find all Squirrels (need guide)

This playthrough you should to focus on only keeping male survivors and stick to only taking all of the paths on the right side of the map. This way on your second playthrough you will be able to focus on the female survivors and all other map locations. In order to complete this in two playthroughs, make sure you find all collectibles.

While you play through the game you are often forced to take female survivors. They will be dismissed through the story or you can send them on a suicide supply run (80% chance of failing) and that will count towards your achievement for losing 5 survivors. This works for all characters and you will want to do the same thing for male survivors in the next playthrough.

It is advised you keep Blake alive. He is the optional police officer found in the first town you are in on the roof. He asks you to find batteries. Not only he is excellent in finding supplies but if you complete the game with him in your party you are given a relic that you can activate to use Silencers on your weapons.

Playthrough 2

On the second playthrough you should focus on keeping only female survivors in your party and only traveling to the left destinations on the map. This includes gathering all vehicles and squirrels.

Fortunately you can select any relic of your choice to use. The first relic in which you can use the Crossbow and Assault Rifle at the beginning is extremely helpful but so is the one where you have silencers on your weapons. If you take advantage of these then you can run through the game in about 3 hours.

Playthrough 3/Wrap Up

If you happened to miss any of the collectibles, survivors, or weapons you will be forced to play through the game a third time.

Most remaining achievements can be gotten by simply hitting continue after you finish the game. This will put you at the last level of the game. If you play this level extremely stealthily you can unlock the achievements for taking no damage or not being grabbed. The end of the level when you are on the .50 Cal is where you will be able to pick several achievements.

Conclusion
Hopefully if you followed these steps you were able to complete the game in two playthroughs. This is not a difficult 100% by any means but if you mess up once it does mean you will need to play through the game again.

You are bound to get 10-15 in your first playthrough. If you take the back streets or highway paths you will either pass through areas with supplies or your car will break down. When this happens make sure if you have the choice you choose to explore. You can turn around and go back into the car when it firsts starts but it may be worth getting whatever supplies you can.

Kill Walkers Using Every Melee Weapon

Melee Weapons consist of
  • Hunting Knife - Always in your inventory.
  • Lead Pipe
  • Hammer
  • Sledge Hammer
  • Baseball Bat

When using some of the lesser damage melee weapons it is good to swing once to knock them back and swing a second time with full power. Rinse and repeat until dead, although it should only take 3 with the absolute worst weapons (hammer, hunting knife).

They Know Me at the Range 15
Kill Walkers Using Every Ranged Weapon

Every ranged weapon means every gun.
  • Bolt Action Rifle - Given to you
  • Revolver
  • Semi Auto Shotgun
  • Double Barrel Shotgun
  • Semi Auto Rifle - Found in the Church after you collect fireworks.
  • High Powered Pistol
  • Crossbow - Given to you.
  • Fast Action Handgun - Found in Archer Creek in the road right before the second car.
  • Pump Shotgun - Found in Danvers on top of a desk when you first enter the lab.
  • Assault Rifle - Found in Firesign Stadium at the beginning directly in front of you.

Crash Course in Brain Surgery 25
Kill 100 Walkers while Grappling

I got this by the end of Act 2. Whenever a walker gets too close you will go into a Grapple Sequence. Move the cursor over the zombie head (it will be red) and spam the . Do this 100 times and the achievement will unlock.

Need More Spots Up Front 35
Dismember 250 Limbs

This one may take a little while to get if you play stealthily. If you just charge in and mow everything down you should get this fairly easily. Any shotgun works well for dismembering enemies.

During the final sequence of the game you are using a mounted .50 Caliber Machine Gun. If you aim at the torsos of the zombies surrounding you, you will take off their arms. This does count. However, you may have to play the last level a couple times.

Now Don't You Get Bit! 30
Prevent 50 Walkers from Grabbing You

When a walker gets close to you it will lunch. Press to block it or you can shoot off their limb. An excellent location is the finale during the last level of the game when you are using the mounted .50 ca.

We Survive by Pulling Together 5
Recruit 1 Optional Survivor

You can get this on any level. If you just explore the area you will hear someone ask for help. They may ask for batteries or something like that and tell you where to look. Find the item then return to them. You can also press start to see the optional objectives.

Collect Every Stuffed Squirrel

The stuffed squirrels are one of the two types of collectibles in the game. There are 16 overall. Here is a video guide for the Squirrels and 8 Posters. These can not be gotten in one playthrough. They will take at least 2 and maybe a 3rd if you miss one.

Here are the locations and what collectible they have.
Cabot Ridge – 1 Stuffed Squirrel
Sedalia – 1 Stuffed Squirrel
Pemberton – 1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Garwater – 1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Fontana – 1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Cleburne – 1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Oakview – 1 Stuffed Squirrel
Taggart – 1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Lemon Hill – 1 Stuffed Squirrel
Barksdale – 1 Stuffed Squirrel
Lafferty –1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Polksville –1 Stuffed Squirrel
Archer Creek – 1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Danvers– 1 Stuffed Squirrel
Sherwood –1 Stuffed Squirrel, 1 Poster
Firesign Stadium – 1 Stuffed Squirrel

A video guide can be found below by deathmule or a text guide HERE created by PowerPyx.

An additional guide can be found here: http://vgfaq.com/guides/walking-dead-survival-instinct-collectibles-locations/

Good Samaritan 30
Complete 25 Optional Objectives

This may seem daunting but it can be unlocked on the second mission. As soon as you give Blake the batteries he needs it will give you a checkpoint. If you go and die then respawn it will add another one to your total. You can make this more efficient by finding the food crate and then the man in the jail cell and you will get credit for two per death. Otherwise this will be done through progression and will take two to three playthroughs.

Complete a Marked Destination on the Map Using Only the Crossbow

Sneak Attack 35
Perform Execution Kills on 50 Walkers

An execution kill is one where you sneak up behind a walker and hold to kill them. If you play the game how it is meant to be played this should unlock fairly early on.

It's Gotta Be the Brain 45
Dismember All Limbs of 5 Walkers

Two Heads Are Better Than One 5
Kill Multiple Walkers with One Bullet

Very easy achievement. When you get the bolt action rifle just aim down your site and line up to walkers. Make sure you can headshot both of them then fire.

Have a Nice Trip! 20
Kill a Walker That Is Falling Due to Dismemberment

You need to blow one of a walkers legs off and kill it as it is falling over. Easily done with the double barrel shotgun or in the final sequence of the game when you are using the mounted .50 Cal.

Mind if I Borrow This? 15
Pull a Bolt From a Walker Then Kill Them With It

Shoot a walker with the crossbow anywhere but the head. Walk up and retrieve the crossbow then shoot it in the head with a second shot.

Ooh, Shiny! 15
Distract 50 Walkers with Items

Items that distract walkers are as listed.
  • Flares
  • Glass Bottles
  • Car Alarms

Flares work best because they last the longest. It is best to keep your flares until you see a group of walkers standing idle. Ideally about 10-15 of them. Throw it into the group without being spotted and it will count towards your total. Some places will have 25+ walkers grouped together.

That Looks Like It Hurt 30
Restore Survivors 25 Times

When you send a survivor out to get supplies at the beginning of a level they will take damage. When you finish the level and if they survived you can give them MREs to restore health. You can give them multiple at a time. You can send the survivors out to get food so it doesn't cost you anything.

Extreme Conditioning 10
Sprint Until You're Exhausted 10 Times in One Level

Simply use the until your character can't run anymore. When the sweet drops are completely absent from your screen that means your stamina has recharged fully. You will most likely get this through natural progression but it can be obtained as soon as you start.

It's Not Venison, but It'll Do 10
Consume 50 MREs

MREs are the white food packets you use to regain health. You will consume way more than 50 in your playthrough. If you need more you can send your survivors on a food run while you do the mission.

Still Not Buying a Hybrid 10
Consume 250 Fuel

If you pick up fuel when you see it, this should unlock by the beginning of your second playthrough.

Duct Tape Can Fix Anything 10
Survive 5 Breakdowns

When you are using the map and choosing where to travel to, make sure you travel by highway. It has the highest chance of a breakdown. When you breakdown you will be put in either a forest area or a garage. Wander around and look for the part. If you die you can continue from the beginning and the part will be in the same location.

Next Step: Bullet Belt 15
Fire 300 Bullets

Self explanatory. This will most likely unlock during the final sequence of the game when you are using the mounted .50 Cal. You have unlimited ammo and you are shooting at 50 or so walkers.

Down to My Last 15
Complete the Game with Only 1 Firearm and 1 Bullet Left in Your Inventory

Play through the final marked location like you normally would until you are defending the helicopter. Switch to your weapon that has the least amount of ammunition as fire all but one shot. Then you can use any of your other weapons except for that. When you are in the Humvee using the .50 Cal, press and drop ALL weapons and ammo except for the one weapon you have the single round left in. You can have Crossbow Ammo; that won't null the achievement. Continue playing through the game normally from this point without picking up ammo. Achievement will unlock during the final cutscene.

Porcupine 15
Shoot a Walker with 10 Bolts without Killing It

Fairly self explanatory. Just aim for the chest, legs, or arms. However, obtaining 10 Bolts at a time may be difficult. If you complete the game once you are able to start with a crossbow. You can try to scavenge as many as you can while you run through the towns. When you add survivors to your group you should also send them on supply runs to get ammo. If the risk is 25-30% then it's is worth it. Anymore and the risk is too big. Any less and they have an even greater chance of coming back. Hopefully they bring back bolts and you will have enough to unlock the achievement.

Guys Night Out 20
Arrive at Final Destination with Only Male Survivors

See "Rosie the Rampager."

Rosie the Rampager 20
Arrive at Final Destination with Only Female Survivors

At the end of the second to last level in Sherwood you are given the option to save either a man or a woman. This is where you choose which achievement you are going to unlock because they can't be dismissed. You can dismiss the other survivors though at the end of the mission if they are the wrong gender. The best way to do this is to play through the game once and only save male survivors and once only saving female. That way you can save 2+ people and get more relics for the next playthrough (or any missing achievements).

I Used to Be a Human Like You 5
Shoot a Walker in the Knee with a Bolt

When you finally get the Crossbow in Barksdale you need to shoot a walker in the knee. Aim for the ankle/foot region and it should hit the walker in the knee.

This Is How Hot Dogs Are Made 10
10 Walkers Killed with Saw Blades in the Logging Camp

In Act II you need to make sure you travel to Oakview. Once there you will meet a black man about halfway through the section. He will direct you to the lumber yard. Go out the door and open the gate to your left (green switch). You will see saw blades. Now you can do one of two things. You can press and punch the walkers in or you can get a bunch chasing you and jump into the saw blade. They will follow you into it and it will tally towards your total.

BOOM! Who Needs a Headshot? 15
Kill 5 Walkers with One Explosion

A good location to get this, although it is not the first, is in Taggart during the second act. After you speak to Charlene Wilson (old black lady), go to the back of the building. By a truck there should be a propane tank. Now stick to the left wall and drop the propane in order to kill the one or two walkers who get in your way. Pick it up again and drop it by the wood fence on the left wall that walkers are trying to break through. Wait until they do then shoot the propane. There's 6 or 7 there and the propane has a large blast radius.

Group Hug 5
Kill 4 Walkers in a Single Grapple Sequence

When a zombie gets very close to you, you will go into a Grapple Sequence. In this sequence you have to move the cursor and stab the zombie in the head. There will be times where you get surrounded by several zombies and spend 30 seconds in a Grapple Sequence. You have plenty of time to kill them all. If you make a lot of noise in a well crowded area all of the zombies will attack you. This will be your chance.

Need a Hand? 5
Prevent a Walker from Damaging You by Severing Its Attacking Limb

If a walker is swiping at you, you can blast it's arm off with a shotgun or machine gun. An easy and almost surefire way to unlock it is during the final sequence in Firesign Stadium when you are using a mountain .50 Cal Machine Gun. Make an effort to shoot off their arms as opposed to head and this will unlock. The walkers are constantly swiping at the Humvee throughout the entire time.

The Hunted Becomes the Hunter 10
Killed 5 Walkers in the Cabot Ridge Creek Bed.

In the first location after you leave the house you will be looking for gas cans. There will be a solid 10 zombies to kill. Quite a few can be killed stealthily and the rest with the Bolt Action Sniper. The achievement will unlock at the end of the level.

Stay Together, Stay Safe 10
5 Survivors Were Killed While Scavenging

When you are going for completing the game with either all male or female characters, just send the opposite gender to get supplies. The higher the risk the greater their chance of death.

You're Doing It Wrong 10
Perished 13 Times

This is inevitable. Just play through the game normally.

Secret?
You Go Your Way, I'll Go Mine 5
Dismissed a Survivor

This will unlock after the first sequence if you rescue the sherif (name needed). Warren you save through the story. Just dismiss one of them (Warren preferably) and the achievement will unlock.

More often than not games that have two guides can have VERY different information.

There's several reasons. One being that I was planning on writing before Dog and the other being that I would end up putting so much information into the community guide and I wouldn't really get proper credit for it. I also don't like working with other people...

Haha! That's the plan. I'm using it to mark what I've unlocked and what I still need to do.

I don't know why this thread has less stars lol. haters.... i prefer this guide. less clutter. on top of that it's a WIP, so people shouldn't be voting period. until it's finished.....i'm probably going to wait for this to be cheaper though.

Just because the "Community" (and i hope this doesn't become the standard around here). is writing a guide, doesn't mean others should drop their own work. i hate when people ask this dumb question.

and you assume he will use material from the other guide lol? what the hell do you think that other guide is doing?... they certainly didn't come up with all the info themselves.

I appreciate the responses and compliments.

As for a status update. Most of the achievements I have information for. I need to input that in, then order the achievements, then overhaul the roadmap (which I know is poor). This is one of those games that took a little while for everything to make sense (functionality, features, etc).

Update. I haven't had internet the last handful days because something came up. The changes I have been working on will go live tomorrow... I'm writing this to be used in conglomerate with something else I'm working up which is why it's taking so long.
