Question Do Base Stats ever increase?

Just started playing this game to prepare for boosting the MP Achievements, and I'm curious about how leveling up actually works in this game.

it appears as tho base stats and base HP & Mana don't increase. Granted, equipping better items increases them, but I mean permanent increases with no items equipped. I've looked around and I can't seem to find an answer to this.

I've only played solo so far (using Alucard), and it seems to be very slow grinding, and I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong.

Thanks.

Nah, you're not doing anything wrong. Harmony of Despair is a very loot centric game. Finding and equipping items (and skills) is the primary way of powering up in this game. Your characters don't level up at all. The only thing that needs leveling are skills and for some characters all it takes is finding multiple copies of a skill (Alucard is one of them).

Only the attack stat, as far as I'm aware. Increasing the levels of skills can increase a character's base strength, and in Charlotte's case, it changes the form of her primary attack. I don't have a list of applicable characters, so I couldn't tell you if this applies to everbody or not.
