Couple of butt-hurt people in here on page 2. Like has been said before, install both discs and have a slightly uglier GTA. Don't install it and have disc spinning. Or install to flash drive.

Personally I'm just going to install the installation disc and let the CD drive do the play disc. If it's loud, I'll pop my headset on and listen to game through that. Problem solved for me.

just watched both those vids, the pop in is meaningless, plus the frame rate is noticeably smoother when its installed. during 100% playback it didnt matter

id rather unnoticeable pop in under real time play than disc read errors or anything else dashboard'ing my game that goes with playing roullet with disc streaming.

i already went thru that with Mass Effect 1 which came out prior to the install feature

I'm going to install it to HDD hell I did with Skyrim and Halo 3 never recall any trouble, if pop-in starts to bug me in GTA V then I can always uninstall it but chances are I'm not going to notice most of the time.

I hate games that do this. BF3 does it the worst for me.

I'm installing to a 32GB flash drive, and it is taking a really long time. Not sure if it's my flash drive or not but I don't remember it taking anywhere near this long.

I already made some room on my hard drive so I'm going to install it. If I see any problem it's not hard to just delete it.

I have both discs installed and have no problems. The only bad part was the intro video which had horrible pop-in. My friend had the exact same problem though, and he didn't have disc 2 installed. I think there is just something horribly wrong with that intro video.

I don't even know what to do anymore. I don't want my 360 making too much noise, but I don't want to have persistent lag for the pop-ins/ups. And who knows if I can find an 8GB flashdrive around my house.

for anyone worried about too much disc noise from not installing the "play" disc, fear not

it's actually not that loud...i only installed the install disc(mainly because i was too impatient to download both at the moment) but it's more of a low humming noise rather than the obnoxious spinning sound that makes it sound like your xbox is posessed

not sure if this helps anyone make their decision but hope it helps someone out

on a side note, HOLY SHIT!!!! GTAV is no longer a fantasy....it has become full fledged reality

What a performance....
After reading this thread, i think i will do what they suggest as i always have a 16gb usb plugged into the back of my xbox...
And as it's going to be a massively played game for me, makes sense to get the best performance..

They found a way to work with technology that's 8 years old. They're not magic; they can't just wave a wand and make the hardware suddenly able to perform better than it can.

It isn't a glitch or anything, it's just a way to optimize performance around the limitations of the system we choose to use.

Thanks, an answer to my only question. (split install).

It's interesting (read good) to see it's not an issue/ fault with the way the xbox copy has been split over 2 discs but rather a design choice to get the best performance out of our old consoles.

I've got a pile of 16gig flash drives so i'll be using one of them for the play disc.

Just need to finish work & get home so i can start playing.

Anyone care to explain how to go about installing install disc to hd and game disc to USB? I use USB to back up save games and stuff so I'm not really savvy when it comes to the new stuff...

Put it in your xbox and try to format it afterwards the xbox will tell you if the usb flash drive is compatible.

1. On the start Screen of the Dashboard choose the game-disk and press X.
2. Then choose install and a window will pop-up and asks were to install the disk (pops-up only if an another storage device is used like an usb flash drive)
3. Wait till Installation is finished
4. Have fun
