Best Soundtrack in a game

So out of all the games you have ever played, which one of them has the best soundtrack? I don't mean songs taken from real life, but soundtrack made by the publishers themselves.

I can't decide between the Halo 2 Theme song and a soundtrack from Halo 3: ODST. Halo 2's theme is just all out action music and fills you with adrenaline while ODST's is very deep and slow and sadness fills you.

Halo 2 Theme:

Halo 3: ODST Deference for Darkness:

Red Dead Redemption

The music for this game is simply awesome.

Check out the tracks called "Estancia", "Horseplay" and especially "Triggernometry"...

Halo 3's entire OST was perfect. Best excerpt by far, if you don't want to listen to the whole thing:

Halo 4's main theme tho x_x

I thought Tony Hawk's American Wasteland had a very fitting soundtrack for skating to.

And of course:

Oh crap, how did I forget about this one??!

Oh, how the CoD games used to be swell...this piece is sort of a reflection on that lol.

Straight from the nostalgia vault.

Gonna stop here before I add anymore. xD

What about this?

Harry Gregson Williams did a pretty good job.

My favourite one is probably Zelda OOT:

Yup, then COD4 came out and ruined it. But the last few games in the series have been improving the series. Not anywhere near as great as COD1 & COD2, but BO, MW3, BO2, and Ghosts have been bringing the series back up from the rock bottom it hit with MW2. Now with three years for each game, I'm thinking the future for COD might be fairly decent.

Anyway, on topic any Halo game. If I have to pick just one, Halo 2. Also, the Tomb Raider series has had some pretty good music. The Mass Effect trilogy music is pretty solid as well.

You didn't like Call of Duty 4? That was my favourite one. Modern Warfare 2 was great too but not as good as Modern Warfare 1. They got worse and worse after Modern Warfare 2 I would say.

To each his own though right?

The Elder Scrolls series
Deus Ex: HR
Mass Effect 1 (There wasn't enough variety in 2 and 3 for my liking)

I'm also a big fan of Akira Yamaoka, especially his 'Theme of Laura'. I was lucky enough to see him play it live a few years ago

That is one opinion I never thought I'd hear, that the newer one's were reviving the series but CoD 4 - MW2 was their rock bottom. Very interesting, as that is completely unfathomable to me.

That's exactly what I was saying. The series was just getting progressively worse and worse. Not the other way around. And I always said Call of Duty 4 was the best out of all of them. Can't see how it could be the worse one. But hey, that's just his opinion so it's all good.

COD4 wasn't terrible, but it has a special place of dislike for me for being the game that completely changed the series for the worse. For me it goes like this.

COD1=COD2>BO2>Ghosts>BO>MW3>WAW>MW>MW2

Hmmm, I don't agree with most on Halo 3 at all. Might be because those who enjoy it didn't play Halo 2 as much as me, but Halo 2 has one of the best OSTs for that series. Seriously, I really hope those who don't remember or have never played it can give the video below a listen. Fantastic fucking stuff.

High Charity Suite and Delta Halo Suite, please. In fact, High Charity Suite is probably the all-time most awesomest OST ever. I love you, Marty :'(

And because I can, probably my favorite cutscene in any Halo game, partly due to the score and character interaction.

Valid point, Spade! And of course, I personally think all the Halo games (I don't remember anything notable from ODST or Reach and I've never played Wars) have great scores, those two from Halo 2 have always just stood out Man…I love me some Halo!

Out of the games in my collection, I'd say my top 3 in no particular order are Tales of Symphonia, Chrono Trigger, and Skies of Arcadia. Honorable mention goes to Final Fantasy Legend II, as despite the technical limitations, that game was able to make a Game Boy sing.

The lore is incredible, unlike most games out there.

I've read The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, and most recently, Glasslands. I'm currently somewhat into The Thursday War, but have had to put it down due to college assignments overtaking my reading time.

I own Contact Harvest and The Cole Protocal, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to them because I've heard that they're bland. Then I need to still read the most recent Kilo-Five novel, Mortal Dictata, and get around to the Forerunner trilogy too, with Cryptum, Silentium, and Pridornium (spelling).

So many Halo books

The Fall of Reach was fucking fantastic. So was Ghosts of Onyx.

How many have you read?

From the Ashes, Air Traffic Control, Orbital Drop Shock Trooper? Or Lone Wolf, Unreconciled, SPARTANs Never Die? Plenty of stand outs from both the ODST and Reach soundtracks.

Yup. None of those ring a bell from having listened through each OST in full whenever it was the last time I did listen to them in full. LOL. Guess I will give them another listen this weekend to see if they do anything for me.

I own The Fall of Reach, Contact Harvest, First Strike, The Cole Protocol, and The Flood.

Out of those, I've yet to read Contact Harvest and The Cole Protocol. I loved First Strike though, even though it is based 100% off the Halo Combat Evolved campaign. The classic lines are all there; "Chief, on the landing above us!"

I want to get Halo: Helljumpers though since it's about ODST's but it's not available anywhere near me. Guess I'll have to order it online.

Hmm, if my memory serves me correct, I think you mean The Flood, as that's the one that followed the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.

First Strike was the events between Halo: CE and Halo 2, I believe, where they mention how Johnson survived the destruction of the Halo installation and it follows Fred, Kelly, Linda, and John through some mission aboard…I think it was a Covenant ship or something. I forget :/

Anyways, you need to get around to Ghosts of Onyx! It's really good, and has a really touching moment in the middle of the book. Really good stuff as you follow Kurt and the Spartan-III's.

I never got into the Halo comics, but I'm sure one day I will. I need to finish all the main books first.

There are a lot of games with fantastic soundtracks. Mass Effect, Halo, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill... I think my favourite would be a toss up between Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy X.
