Complete Level Walkthroughs

This is a complete list of all the puzzle pieces in Braid. If there are any that aren't clear, let me know and I'll clarify. I hope that everyone uses this guide as a Last Resort, because this game is so much fun.

2-1 “Three Easy Pieces” (3 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Easy one. Drop down and jump over to the puzzle piece.
2. Jump on a goomba to get the second one.
3. Jump on 2 goombas to get the last piece.

2-2 “The Cloud Bride” (4 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Jump over to get the key and unlock the door, then stand on the cloud.
2. Keep jumping on the second set of clouds until you get to the second piece over the cannon.
3. You will not be able to get this piece without the puzzle piece from “The Hunt”. Once you get this piece, position it so that it is flush with the corner of the ledge that the goomba is on. As soon as the goomba is on it, click back into the assemble puzzle screen and move it down a little and center it. If he falls off, rewind and try again. Once you have him lower and to the middle, climb the ladder to the ledge and jump on him to cross the gap.
4. You won’t be able to get this one without puzzle piece you get from “The Hunt” also. Use the same technique as before except get the goomba to fall on the floor. As soon as he walks near the piece above the door, jump on him to get it.

2-3 “The Hunt” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. The object here is to kill the goombas so that none are left on the screen. Kill them in this order: Bottom, 2nd level left side, 3rd level left side, 2nd level right side (jump on this one to get to-), 3rd level right side, top floor. The door will unlock and you can get the piece.

2-4 “Leap of Faith” (4 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb up the ladder at the beginning of the level and hit the switch for the moving platform. Get a goomba to ride the platform so that he lands safely across. Jump on him to get the first puzzle piece.
2. This one may take a couple of tries. Before jumping all the way down, stand on the ledge above the cannon. Time it up perfectly to jump on a goomba to get across for the second puzzle piece.
3. When you jump down, stay kind of towards the left side and maneuver around the spikes to get the 3rd piece.
4. Climb up the ladder and it’s on your right. Watch out for the falling goomba.

3-2 “There and Back Again” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. There is no need to rush through this level. Get the key at the top and then rewind back to the beginning. You’ll have the key and easily make it in time to get the puzzle piece.

3-3 “Phase” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb the fence at the beginning and get on the ledge. ‘Scratch’ the ‘X’ button until the clouds are equally apart from each other. Jump over and get the puzzle piece.
2. Jump on a cloud that will rewind when you hit the ‘X’ button. ‘Scratch’ the ‘X’ button again until a cloud comes close enough for you to jump to the next cloud. Keep doing this to get the piece.

3-4 “The Ground Beneath Her Feet” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb up the ladder and hit the switch, then rewind all the way back to the beginning. The goomba will fall on the platform and get the key for you. Get the key, open the door, and get the piece.
2. This one is pretty cool. Hit the switch and climb up the ladder and onto the platform and stand directly above the puzzle piece for 5 seconds. Go back down and hit the switch and then rewind. You should be over the puzzle piece without the platform under you. You are also able to rewind after you get this piece.

3-5 “Tight Channels” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Go all the way until you reach the first ladder. Stand there about 5-10 seconds because you want to rewind so that a goomba can make it all the way across and land on the platform below the puzzle piece. The main reason you want to stand still for a couple of seconds is because the goomba walks right off the ledge. Jump on the goomba to get the piece.
2. Climb up the ladders and dodge the fireballs to get the last piece.

3-6 “Irreversible” (3 Puzzle Pieces)
1. From where you start, you’ll see to ledges moving towards each other; one is affected by time, and the other isn’t. You don’t want to hit rewind until the horizontal platform is over the vertical platform. Climb up the ladder and make your way to the platform to get the first puzzle piece.
2. Climb down the ladder in the center of the level. Pick up the key to the left and open the first door. Now rewind and you’ll have the key back in your hand. Walk to the next door and open it to get the puzzle piece.
3. Climb down the ladder and make your way to the left and drop down to a pit. Pick up the green key and rewind back to right before you picked up the first key. The first door should still be open, so open the second door with the green key. Go back and pick up the first key and climb down the ladder. Open the door with the key and now get the key that is in between the plants. Take that key and open the 2nd door, rewind, and then open the 3rd door to get the last key.

3-8 “A Tingling” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. First thing that you want to do is climb the ladder and hit the switch so that the plat form is all the way to the right. Make your way across to the left and get the key and stand at the ledge above where you spawned and stand still for 10 seconds. Then make your way back across and hit the switch. Now, Rewind 8x to beat the platform back across. Wait for the platform to come and jump on it to climb the ladder to get the puzzle piece.
2. Through this world, we’ve come across things that haven’t been affected by time. For this puzzle piece, your guy will get this ability. Open the door with the key and make your way across the fence. Climb down the ladder and go across the 2nd fence. Hit the switch and you’ll notice a platform with a green surface rise up. Rewind so that your back on the 2nd fence and jump on this platform. Rewind 8x so that everything is basically reset. Make your way across the fence, up the ladder and across the first fence and you should be there in time to get the 2nd puzzle piece before the Iron Gate closes.

4-2 “Jumpman” (3 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Walk across to the first ladder climb up, then go backwards and climb up the second one. From here, jump on the gold stopper to your left, and then jump on the goomba that’s falling and work your way up to the top so that you land behind the cannon. Jump over the cannon and get the puzzle piece.
2. Climb up the ladder and get past all the fireballs to the top. Get the key and DO NOT open the door to the right of the puzzle piece. The door won’t open and you’ll waste the key. Instead, use the same technique that you used to get the first puzzle piece and open that door with the key and get the 2nd puzzle piece.
3. Climb back up to the top of the fireballs and maneuver your way to the puzzle piece that’s on the top ledge.

4-3 “Just Out of Reach” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb up the ladder and hit the switch. Continue up the ladder and go left. You want to make your guy go past the level by jumping on a goomba, but still staying on the level that you’re on. As soon as you jump far enough over, you’ll see the switch flip. Land back to where you were and jump on the goomba to get the first puzzle piece.
2. From where you got the first puzzle piece, jump over and hit goomba so that you’re on the platform above the puzzle piece. This might take you a couple of tries, but go backwards and jump on the goomba again, but go forwards to stay on the platform you’re on. What you’re hoping for is that you go far enough back so that it’s like you never hit the goomba, kinda like you did with the switch for the first puzzle piece. Walk all the way to the right and get the goomba to get the key. Walk to the left now, get the key, and now make your way back to the beginning of the level. Do everything over again, and this time, it doesn’t matter whether the goomba that gets you across lives or dies. Climb up the ladder and through the door to get the 2nd puzzle piece.

4-4 “The Hunt” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. Aw Shit, another Hunt Level. And this one seems hard. It isn’t too bad. Go all the way to the top and kill the goomba up there. He should be close to the left side. Go back down and double jump on the goomba on the 2nd level right side. You want to double jump onto the 3rd platform to the left and kill that goomba. If you walk over to the ladder, you’ll make it so that the top one comes back to life. After you kill your second goomba, drop down a level and kill the one to the left (2nd level, left). This should leave 3 goombas left. Kill the one at the bottom, and then double jump on the second level goomba like you did before to get to the right side. Kill the last goomba and the door will open. The door isn’t affected by time, so don’t be scared to walk backwards.

4-5 “Movement by Degrees” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. When you start the level, you’ll see a key to your left. Navigate the goomba and yourself between the plants. My suggestion is not to jump over the middle plant but to walk over it. You’ll be face to face to the goomba and the plant will just miss you. Jump over the goomba and over the last plant and up the ladder. Once you’re up the ladder, you’ll notice a piece of the pillar to your left. Jump on that and it should help you to get the last goomba past the last plant. Walk to the right until you hear a *Ding* noise, and walk back and pick up the key. Make your way back up the ladder and then the 2nd ladder and jump across to get the first piece.
2. For this piece, you’ll want a goomba to get through the plants and onto the ledge so that you can jump on it to get the puzzle piece. To do this, stand on the ledge below the puzzle piece so that the left most plant is in the tunnel. Stand here for 10 seconds and the walk all the way to the right until the right most plant is in the tunnel. As soon as the goomba gets across the first plant, start rewinding. It might take you a couple of tries. Jump on the goomba and get the last puzzle piece.

4-6 “Movement Amplified” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. As the level name suggests, when you step on the clouds, the movement will be like 8x’s faster than normal. Climb up the ladder onto the clouds and navigate the goomba to get the key. Once you have the key, go back up the ladder and climb the second ladder and make your way towards the left door. To get past the plant, all you have to do is jump. Open the door, and get the first puzzle piece.
2. Make your way back to the first ladder and go all the way up. Stand on the edge of the cannon and jump as far as you can to the right. You’ll notice this HUGE cloud going left. Land on it and use it to jump to the ledge that is further to the right. Keep jumping to the last puzzle piece.

4-7 “Fickle Companion” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Grab the key and jump over the flaming spikes or whatever the hell that is, and climb up the ladder and hit the switch. Fall down and kill the goomba, another one will spawn and what you want to do is catch the goomba onto the platform and move it so that the goomba walks straight onto the 2nd level platform. As you move back, you’ll lose the key and the goomba will pick it up. Climb up the ladder and make sure you kill the goomba AFTER he passes the ladder that you need to climb up to get the puzzle piece. Get the key, open the door, and get the piece.
2. With the key in your hand, open the door and walk inside. Kill the goomba and quickly move to the ground level and all the way to the left. The door you walked in should close, the key should be unused, and a goomba should be flying out of the cannon now. The goomba will pick up the key, and kindly bring it to you before you murder him. Steal the key, open the door, and get the piece.

5-1 “The Pit” (1 Puzzle Piece)

1. This introduces you to the Shadow Rewind. Drop down and get the puzzle piece like you normally would. Now rewind to right before you jumped down, and a shadow man will mimic what you did before. He picks the puzzle piece up for you and you can move on.

5-2 “So Distant” (2 Puzzle Pieces)

1. Climb up the ladder and past the switch and stand at the Iron Gate for 5 seconds. Now, go back and hit the switch. After you hit the switch, rewind to when you were standing at the gate. You’re shadow man will hit the switch so you can climb the ladder to get the first puzzle piece.
2. Hit the goomba and jump the right and hit the switch, then rewind back to before you hit the goomba. Now hit the goomba so you land on the left side. You’re shadow man was nice enough to hit the switch for you. Climb up the fence and get the last puzzle piece.

5-3 “No Name” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb up the fence and jump down to get the key, then jump as far as you can over to the left. You’re going to die, but rewind all the way back to the beginning. Your shadow man will go and get the key and jump across to get it to you. All you need to do is stand at the ledge of the spikes and catch the key. After getting the key, climb up the fence and unlock the door.
2. To get this piece, jump down to the bottom floor and go towards the ladder. A bunny (who sounds strangely like a cat) will pop up and chase you. Rewind to right before you jumped down and your shadow man will lure the bunny out. Jump around to the other side, climb the ladder and get the puzzle piece.

5-4 “Crossing the Gap” (3 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb up the ladder and go and hit the switch. After hitting the switch, stand on the same platform that the cannon is on for 5 seconds. Now, go down and kill the goomba that’s walking around. As soon as you kill him, rewind to the spot where you were standing still. Your shadow man will kill the goomba, and another one will spawn. Jump on this kid’s head to get the first puzzle piece.
2. As soon as you get the first puzzle piece, drop down and kill the goomba that just spawned and then hit the switch. Let the platform come all the way across and then rewind to before you hit the switch. Your shadow guy will hit the switch and it will make a complete bridge, allowing the goomba to pass all the way across. Jump on the goomba to get the 2nd piece.
3. This one took me a while to figure out, and I figured it out by accident. Make sure that the platform is all the way to the left. Make your way to the right part of the level. Climb up that ladder and wait on that ledge for the goomba to come to your side. The goomba will make a brief drop as he heads towards the door. Position yourself right to where he drops so that he falls on you. When he kills you rewind so that you are back on top of the ledge. When he kills your shadow man, you’ll notice that he pops up a little bit. This is when you want to jump on him. Time it up perfectly and jump to the last puzzle piece.

5-5 “Window of Opportunity” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Kill the goomba with the key and stand in front of the regular door for a couple of seconds. Then go down and open the purple door. Rewind back to where you were standing, and open the regular door and jump on top of the purple door and make your way over to the switch. Your shadow man will open the purple door for you and now climb the ladder and make your way back to the first puzzle piece.
2. This one is tricky. Start off by standing at the top switch, but don’t hit ‘B’ yet. Now, climb down the stairs and position yourself directly under the switch and count to 5 and then press ‘B’, nothing happens…yet. Rewind back to when you were standing at the first switch and wait for your shadow man to get on the long platform. When he gets on it, hit the switch and jump to the platform on your right. If you did it correctly, your shadow man will hit the switch so you can jump over to your left and grab the last puzzle piece.

5-6 “Lair” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. After you get the key, climb the fence to the left and unlock the door, wait about 3 seconds before you hit the switch. After you hit the switch rewind to when you were climbing the fence, and as quickly as possible, make your way to the end of the level. The shadow man will hit the switch, raising the Iron Gate so you can get the puzzle piece.

5-7 “Fragile Companion” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. I figured this one out by accident. Climb up the fence and grab the key. Now jump towards the door and BEFORE you hit the door, rewind back to when you grabbed the key. The shadow guy will open it for you. Open the other door with your guy to get the puzzle piece.

6-2 “There and Back Again” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. Go ahead and put your ring by the door. This will slow down the Iron Gate that is moving down. Go up and get the key, and you should be able to make it down in time to get it.

6-3 “Phase?” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. Climb up the fence and jump on a cloud. As soon as you jump on a cloud, drop your ring. When another cloud comes closer, quickly pick up your ring and jump to the next cloud. Repeat until you get the puzzle piece.
2. Climb up the fence and place your ring about an inch to the left of the flower. Go back down and jump from cloud to cloud to get the last puzzle piece.

6-4 “Cascade” (3 Puzzle Pieces)
1. To get this one above the door, you’re going to need to go all over the level. Climb the ladder and dodge both sets of fire balls and then go to the right. Hit the goomba and jump on the ledge to the left, where they spawn. Jump over the next one that spawns and when he drops down a level, jump on him to get the key. When you have the key, jump down and get on top of the cannon that shoots fire balls and drop your ring on it. This slows down the shots so it will allow a goomba to get by. Pick up your ring as soon as the goomba drops down. You’ll see a cannon floating in mid-air. Use the goomba to jump on top of the cannon. When you’re up there, place your ring down to slow down the shots. This should give you enough time to open the door, hit the switch, and walk back out, without getting killed. Climb up the ladder and walk to the left to get this puzzle piece.
2. To get the puzzle piece that at the very top, place your ring down about an inch left of the edge of the spikes. This will slow the goombas down to where you can hit 2 of them in 1 jump. This will give you enough air to make it up to get the puzzle piece.
3. Place the ring on top of the cannon that shoots fireballs. This will allow a goomba to pass through. Jump on it to get this puzzle piece.

6-5 “Impassible Foliage” (2 Puzzle Pieces)
1. As soon as you start the level, you’ll notice you have a same situation as you did in one of the earlier levels, where a vertical and horizontal platform are coming at each other. When you start, place your ring directly under the vertical platform. This will allow the horizontal platform to move all the way across. Once that is done, pick up your ring and place it under the plant that is blocking your way. Climb up the ladder and across to get the puzzle piece.
2. I was screaming at my TV when I first tried to do this, until I found out an easier way. Ok, you need 2 goombas to get you up to the puzzle piece, and they have to be back to back goombas (meaning, you won’t be able to get up there if you get one through but the one behind him dies). You’ll notice that 2 of the plant will go down at the same time, so what I did was I put the ring under the one that came up alone ( for me, it was the left most plant), and I had 3 or 4 goombas come through at a time. Hit 2 goombas to get up to the puzzle piece.

6-6 “Elevator Action” (3 Puzzle Pieces)
1. To get the one behind the locked door, climb up the ladders and dodge the fireballs. When you’re at the top, ride the platform down and get the key and ride the platform back up. When the platform is back at the top and you have the key, put your ring down on the edge of the platform and hit the switch. This will cause the fireballs to slow down so that you can safely get back down. When you’re down, run back to the first ladder and get the puzzle piece. Don’t forget to pick up your ring.
2. Go all the way to the end of the level and climb up the ladder. Hit the switch and jump on the platforms that just came down. Put your ring on the longest platform and jump back over and hit the switch. When the platforms go back all the way up, hit the switches again. This time, the smaller platform should beat the larger platform down, causing it to go closer to the puzzle piece. Jump on the larger platform and pick up your ring and head up the ladder. Hit the switch and climb up the ladder that just fell. Notice that time doesn’t affect you when you are on the platforms; the ring doesn’t affect you either. When you are on the smallest platform, rewind time to just after the platform begins to move. Quickly place your ring at the end of the ledge and run back onto the platform. As soon as the ladder falls jump on to it and climb up to the puzzle piece.
3. Place your ring to the right side of the switch and hit the switch. Jump to the right side of the larger platform and then rewind to the top. Once at the top, you shouldn’t have any trouble jumping across to get the puzzle piece.

6-7 “In Another Castle” (1 Puzzle Piece)
1. Walk up the stairs next to the key and put your ring down. Leave it there for about 5 or 10 seconds and then pick it up. You’ll see why we did that in a minute. Go to the second ladder and place your ring down at the base. This will give you enough time to go up the ladder. Climb up the ladder, but do NOT hit the switch yet. Instead, walk onto the green platform and start rewinding back to where we put down the ring by the key. When you get to that part, hit the switch. Fall down to the right as quickly as you can and you should be able to get the key and your ring in plenty of time. Do the same steps as before and climb up the ladder and unlock the door to get the puzzle piece.

Honestly, no one should look at this. If you beat the game without the help of a guide, you will feel really good about yourself.

I've never been so excited to beat a game that only took a few hours.

Nice guide, this combined with the videos in the achievement guide make this an insanely easy 200 points. Although it's such an amazing game I'd urge people to try multiple times before resorting to a guide.

This and the Achievement Guide need stickying. Seeing as this game is still in the upcoming releases I can see it being a while until it happens.

I would agree, except I just could not beat 4-4 "Hunt". That was driving me nuts.
