iNSANiTY
I was wondering my xbox has the e74 error. I was wondering can I send it off to MS saying its an RRoD when its not? Would they charge or just send it back unfixed?
SkillfulMmd
as far as they know they don't check it so you could try i guess you will have to get lucky.
iNSANiTY
Would pouring water inside RRoD it?
SkillfulMmd
lol didn't your mum teach you not to mess water with electric.
Slormer
Actually they do check. They check the boot log and make sure it had the RROD more than once. I looked into this to try to get an HDMI supported box. You'll have to actually get a red ring. Water won't RROD it, although I wont say that it has no chance, just that way more stuff can go wrong instead.
iNSANiTY
The only thing I can do is force RRoD by leaving it on when it has overheated then send it in?
dakisbac
Just tell them it's scratching discs (I don't think they'll check this) and they'll fix it for free.
jonnyMAGNUM
Or I heard putting a stack of pennies on the RAM fixes this problem. It requires you to open the system, but if it's past warranty, it might be worth trying.
J eVeRy DaY 514
I didn't have the RROD, i sent mine in pretty much because it was loud, the disc tray was a bitch to open, and sometimes would give me 3 red lights. of course i said it RROD'd. nevertheless, i was sent back a refurbished system in a matter of a few weeks. iNSANiTY
Hmm , I may just leave it on for a couple of hours , how long is it supposed to take to give me rrod if I leave it on?
JC
They do check the console, so if it does not show the 3 Red Rings when they test it, then they call you and ask if it is okay you charge to fix the E74 error. Or they will just ship it back to you, still broken. Either fork out for the repair, get a new 360 or wrap your 360 in towels until it gets the 3 Red Lights, though I am not sure that will work. RFT 123
It's highly unlikely that they wouldn't check your xbox when you send it in. So, you gotta actually give it the RRoD.
A Polish Panda
I had the error where the display cable or something was broken inside of it, the connector. And they fixed it for free.
v_thorne
It's a mass Call Center/Tech Center. So no, they don't check. When I got the RRoD she asked me something that my xbox should've been doing that it wasn't. Not wanting to deal any longer with it I just laid back on the couch and agreed with her, told her I was trying the things she asked me to try, and two days later I got a box. They don't check. It would take too much time.
Parkerktm
If you want to get a RROD just leave your xbox on for a week, turn it off and re-start it and that should do the trick.
georgiandben
If you've got E74 then I don't think overheating will work, mostly because the XBOX isn't doing enough to generate any heat. I left mine on for a good two weeks before I just decided to give up.
Sinister5
To get the RROD you will be able to simple use scotch tape over all the ventilation holes. Even with the E74, leave the maching running and in due time the unit will overheat. Once you get it overheated, the system will only RROD when powered up and never get to the E74 screen. THis worked for 2 of my buddies that had E74 with no warrantee save for the 3 year RROD one. Both guys units were either repaired or returned with a refurb from the overheating chipsets. Give it a try. Cover all holes with the tape, including the fans. Make sure to use a weak strength scotch tape, like what you use for wrapping presents, so to avoid leaving tape glue all over the unit being a dead givaway that something was up. Good luck my friend. Hopefully others can advise you as well, they may have a better solution. I only suggest this because with E74, there really is no draw on the processors so the only way to cause the RROD in this case is totally cooking the internals by blocking all airflow.
