Alan Wake Achievements

Back! Back, I Say!

Save yourself with a flare.

For a while I wondered what this achievement was, having used many flares but not having it pop. It actually means, save yourself with a flare when you are in a "low health state" - so when the screen is black and white essentially and you are under a third of health. When that happens, bust out a flare with the  and net yourself this achievement.

There is a good chance that this achievement may rely on the fact that you just need to hold the flare, as many have reported that it has unlocked with full health. So upon pulling the flare out with the , hold the button.

When you're in a battle with The Taken, and you're near death, quickly activate a flare and step away from the attackers. If you save yourself from death just in time, you should unlock this achievement.

Yeah pretty sure you have to be near death in the grayscale zone to get this. I held flares a few times before and didn't get it until I was near dead and whipped it out.

this is freaking annoying.

you're on low health - its why you use the flare. what does the game do? it wrestles the bloody camera off you and makes you count the 9 guys standing around you with hatchets and chainsaws - just in case you thought that ATTACKING them would be useful. No, Constant Reader, you must LOOK at the enemies and WAIT until your flare dies so they can continue caving in your skull.

Bloody. Stupid.

I love the achievement names, really clever :D This one is quite easy. Just wait till you're near death and activate a flare. That's all it takes
