Alan Wake Achievements

Run-On Sentence

50
Special 1: Complete the episode without reloading the game or restarting a checkpoint.

For this achievement, you must not reload your checkpoint or restart checkpoint. So, you must not die. Some tips:

  • Running is the best strategy. When surrounded by Taken, the best thing to do is to light up a flare, and run.
  • Flares and flaregun. These two are the best weapons for attempting to go through the game without dying. If you manage to see a large group of Taken of 3+ shoot the flare gun to take them out all at once. If you manage to get surrounded by Taken, pull out a flare to give yourself some room.
  • Go towards the light. If you manage to get hit before moving along, backtracking to the nearest light is a good way to get your health back up to full.

This achievement will unlock after listening to the ending song. Right when the credits start to roll.

This is the only achievement I need for both DLC episodes.

I always die when I get to the part with the vehicles, any tips?

for the Signal: the monster trucks, if you try and kill them as soon as they die you get ambushed by taken. at least thats what i noticed. I would quickly run to the middle then to the power switch (which is a safe haven from the trucks at least) when u get to this little haven tease the trucks to chase you and then burn them down. after that just run to the barn. as for the writer i havnt started that episode yet ;0

SORRY TO DOUBLE POST...and for those caps. But if you already have your License Revoked Achievement, then during the monster truck stage simply burn down the word WHEELS with your flashlight and hop in! (ive never done this however and havnt taken into consideration what type of damage the Monster Trucks do to a vehicle) :)

Unless you're trying to stack with the one where you don't use a vehicle, you just have to get into one of the Jeeps they give you. Boost the headlights and take out the trucks that way. When the fallen show up, run them over.

I feel your pain. I beat it without dying and as soon as the game faded to black to let the cutscene roll, my console decided to freeze. To get the achievement, I'll have to try it all again.

This is impossible, I don't know how you say its so easy, i kept dying most of the time, there were just to many taken, and the part with the light poles flickering on and off, I got lost and got killed. Its just too long an eppisode!

My 2 cents. Choose whether you want this or the Fast and Furious Achievement,
working for one at a time makes it easier for both. If going fast and Furious
save all flare gun ammo, and don't be afraid to die. Learn the layout, remember
where supplies are, and use them in the final part. Then afterwards just take
your time and use your flare gun/flares when you feel is necessary, just try
and stockpile mainly flare gun ammo for the final encounter to make sure you
don't mess up at the end.

@#11, I feel your pain...my console has done that to me on multiple games/achievements. Sometimes, I think the All Knowing Glowing Green Eye on the front of the Xbox is just watching me....waiting for the right moment to freeze up....it also turns red and flashes when it gets angry...then I must sacrifice a towel in order to calm it back down...or was that a Night Springs episode?

No, you must do all the DLC without diyng, or quitting. That means you must take two hours of spare time and go through it thinking hard on the right course to avoid death by Taken or falls (usually falls).

Why does everyone think this is piss, i got killed on the final boss because when u aim in with the flare gun, your crosshaires are of and u have to readjust; i did not know this so i fired two shots which completely missed and was on such low health
when i got past the block of poltergistes(exsuse spelling) i got killed by the taken behind me and i massivley rage quit

Who ever came up with this achievement is such a tool and them existing is
trolling the world

My Xbox froze up too after completing the episode without dying. I read on another site that this is due to running up the dock (towards the TV) too fast AFTER destroying the boat. I am SO pissed right now... I just want to be done with this damn game.

these dlc are nowhere near hard if you use your Gun and flashlight mainly then
only when in trouble use flares and flashes.

Learn the DLC know when to take it slow and when to just run to the next checkpoint.
I got both DLC achievements for not dieing and enjoyed both(Favorite 2 achievements
in Alan Waka)

I don't know how the hell you all got past the furnaces with no issues...I can get there and then I get raped by taken jumping behind me and assaulting me.

Also, how are some of you playing this on normal, I thought there was only one difficulty for the DLC? Or does it save the difficulty off your main game? Because if that's the case then I'm doing this on nightmare, and suddenly this makes a lot more sense on how the taken kill me in two hits...

This dashboard trick really works!!

JIC: If the game freezes at the end of The Signal and you haven't died yet, go back to dashboard and restart the game without turning off your 360; Run-On Sentence achievement should unlock after 'Alan Wake' title menu loads.

If you take it slow and play through the game a few times, you should be able
to learn the layout and the enemy count/locations. In my play-throughs I never
fired a shot until the area with all the furnaces. Keep in mind it is easy
to run around enemies up to this point and in other areas later in the game.

I had the issue of the game freezing multiple times during the final battle.
I finally let my Xbox sit over night to cool and the next morning played
the DLC right away. I think it may have something to do with your Xbox
over-heating. Just a theory but it worked for me.

Because I said "this is easy" before I should describe that it is easier if you
already have the An Iydllic Small Town, Gunless Wonder and Hardboiled Writer
achievements. These help you prepare for making it past enemies without having
to fight them.

Flares and the Flashlight Blasts are the best weapons to distract enemies when
you are trying to run away from them. Don't be afraid to use a flare but I would
only use one when absolutely needed.

Finally, Break every area down into sections and don't stress over getting this
achievement on your first play-through. Go for the other 7 achievements first
then go back through for this one. You can make it through the episode in about
30 mins if you know what your doing. It's not that hard or frustrating....
unless it freezes a

this is really easy 2nd time through as u know where all the trouble areas are...
as long as ur only going for this chevo alone, its a walk in the park, just have 3
flare gun shots at the end, use cars when against the monster trucks, and hide
behind other items when really big things are being thrown at you, u can fly through it, start to finish and get chevo in an hour :) now on to add on number 2...........

I haven't got onto playing nightmare yet, and it'll be my 3rd full playthough of the game, but I'm sure that's no way near as frustrating (or even as hard) as this. It's beyond me how people say this is easy really. After a few tries and knowing my way through all the bits, I was still on edge every second coz I knew what was coming. I only attempted this again coz of stupidly failing the writer achievement (which is way easier than this) and luckily got it! There were quite a few 'crap crap crappp!' moments but I just stayed persistant with my guns and flares. I used absolutely no flare gun shots till the final fight which meant I could just go crazy on those tv's, which I did.

And for the monster truck bit, that didn't actually give me too much hastle when going for this achievement.

* I just got in the jeep and drove quickly to the safe haven, used the switch, got in the other jeep and drove my ass quickly to the warehouse. Luck (or skill?) was on my side here as I managed to shoot at one of the gas barrel things and exploded a lot of taken (which seriously had me surrounded coz there were that many) and I got to safety and mopped up the rest of those nasties. Extremely relieved I got this achievement overall and I can do the writer equivalent knowing it's gonna be much easier than this! And I know it will as I got to the end and stupidly failed...

Took me three attempts.

The first attempt I got KO'd by the Deer. Second attempt I made it to the part under the pier and went to dodge one of the taken, and I dodged right off the edge into the water. 3rd time lucky!

This achievement is a curse. It's my last one. I unlocked every other achievements using only 2 playthroughs. then I started the third, I was about to make it, almost final fight and the light in the house went off. Dead ring and lots of disappointment. I start over again on my 4th playthrough taking it slow and I fell from the "bridge" in the water at the very last. I got so pissed I haven't played Alan Wake since then. Just to say that this achievement depends largely by luck.

@47, I hear you. I still have yet to get the second DLC for Alan Wake, but this is the LAST achievement I need from The Signal. I'm fine all the way through the level, even through the section with all the streetlights, but once I get to the damn derby area I always get killed by the trucks. Anyone have any decent tips for this?

I got it today! Imo it was harder than "Alan, Wake Up". There are 6 not missable flare guns and one light grenade, do not spend them on the taken! You will need 2 flare guns to destroy trucks, and light grenade and 4 flare guns for the last battle.

Saturday, July 14, 2012 @ 10:05:39 PM

to be honest, if you play it on normal, it is insanely easy. especially if like me, you just got done doing the nightmare play through on the main game. going back to normal was a joke, i annihilated the taken, using no flare gun or flash bang shots and only rarely using a flare until the very end. most of the time you can just run by the taken. in the basement, the furnaces destroy the taken, with the monster truck, hop in the jeep, hit switch, drive back and you gotta drive the truck INTO the garage, dont miss, once in there make sure you hit the propane tanks and everything goes haywire. make sure you hit the propane tanks wherever you see them, run when you can, and youll be fine on normal - but yeah you gotta go for this acheev alone. do all the others first, get the layout and THEN d

I just nailed License Revoked, Fast and Furious, and Run-On Sentence in one playthrough on Normal, my second playthrough overall. None of it was all that difficult if you follow the advice on this page. Save about 4 flares and flaregun ammo for the last fight. Use all of the dodging and light blaring techniques that you picked up on achievements in the main game, and wherever there's a shortcut to kill off Taken, use it. Was actually a lot of fun, and not all that stressful. (Don't ask me about No Punctuation achievement on "The Writer" though, ugh that was horrible.)

If you are getting killed by the monster trucks***** then try this: spawn the vehicle hop in and drive to the back left corner where the switch is. Hope out and run to the switch. The monster trucks cannot reach you here. Run out and back in to lure the monster trucks back to you and simply take them out one at a time. Do this quick as taken will approach. Hope back in a vehicle and you can actually drive it right into the building where the door should now be open to easily take out the group of 5-6 taken that are in the main room.

Got this in my third try. It seemed much easier than No Punctuation. Take it slow. Kill all enemies and don't run when u don't have flares. Use hunting rifle for one shot kill. Save flash bang, flare gun for the final fight. i had 1 flash bang and 6 flare gun shots for the final fight. Use flares only when needed. Don't try to run away from the monster truck. take it down before u move on that area.
