Assassin's Creed II

Assassin's Creed II Achievements

Messer Sandman

Stun 4 guards at once by throwing sand in their face.

At the beginning of DNA Sequence 4, you are once again in Monteriggioni. After talking to the architect about beginning to renovate the city (unlocking “Handy Man”), go outside to the fighting circle and speak with the trainer. Here you will want to learn the Unarmed Combat ability. Select Special Moves > Unarmed Combat. Here, you will learn how to throw sand in an enemies’ face.

Once it has been learned, go to either Florence or Tuscany and provoke a fight with more than four guards. Run from them to get some distance if needed, and when you are ready, with your fists equipped (), hold to pick up some sand. When the guards come running towards you, release the button to throw the sand. Make sure you get at least four guards. If not, keep trying.

Listen: go to the training field in Monteriggioni (hope I spelled that right) and ask to train in "throwing sand"; it's free, so money isn't a requirement. Once you complete the training, you can now throw sand at guards, temporarily blinding them; now just go to any location and get as many guards as possible to fight you at the same time. Now, you need to equip your fists, not any weapons, hold the "x" button to gather up sand, then release the button to throw it. The attack must hit at least four guards, so it may take a few tries; if it doesn't work the first time, wait until they become unblinded, then rinse and repeat until the achievement unlocks.

This one was boring, took a lot of tries, because generally it only hits 3 guards, and the maximum guards that can enter in a conflict with you is 8, the others wait then to die. but I went to venice near the bay there is fast travel whatever and there is a restricted area, so I attracted a o lot of guards and run a lot when you have some distance you throw the sand because it takes some time charge, and in a few tries I made it.

It's not that hard. Got it after second try...

Just lure some guards to you, or attack them blind on the street, then attract others, dodge a bit, and throw away!
Did this right after I got the Medici-cape.

This one is easy, you just have to get them to ball up in the right way. Lots of games have similar achievements and it is all the same idea. (ex. Fable II)

Back yourself into a corner and throw sand at a group of four, that way they're clustered closer together.

A little bit into the game you start to see guards in suits of Armour. I think their called brutes. They will survive a throwing knife.

Just lock on and chuck a throwing knife at the brute in the group. This will make him stumble back for a second or two.
Swap to fists and launched some sand at the other 3 guards when they get close
Readied the sand again and launched it just as the brute gets near you. Easy 10G

Haven't done this one, but just an idea.
Could you maybe go to one of the banking houses that have the red boxes of money in them? They're normally guarded by four guards who stand pretty close together?
Let me know if it works for you :)

I'm running outside of Tuscany with a group of guards following. If you jump a fence you have time to charge up your sand attack before the guards get to you. Still only hitting 3 guards atm but gonna keep trying.

I dont understand why you must train it in practice thingie? I didnt do that
and i got it easily. Just get a lot of guards chasing you, run away so you can
charge the throw and just hope it hits four guards.

It is awkward, try and funnel the guards into an archway or narrow area forcing
them to group together, makes it a lot easier.
(I found that out the hard way)
But thats the best advice I can give!

Also, I find that this achievement and the straffing achievement is quite glitchy.
I did the sand throw sucessfully a good 6 times before it gave me the
achievement. Just one of those things!

People are making it out to be a lot harder than it should...

Starting off you need to learn the skill if you haven't already. Go to the trainer guy outside the villa and underneath "Special Moves" learn "Unarmed Combat" or something along those lines. This will teach you the Throw Sand technique.

Now. Hopefully you know how to attract guards attention spans, so I won't go into that, but at this point once you've successfully lured 8-12 guards, keep pulling them around until you can find a really narrow street that they bunch up in. I myself just went to San Marco next to the large building that was restricted and pulled 3 groups of 4 there. Then I ran between the large tower with a glyph at the top and the building next to it to funnel them into a tight packed group. Then it was jus

I just got it. I tried the "throw a knife at a brute" method, but couldn't quite get it, but then I found a small, tight alley, got four guys to come after me, and you just dodge backwards (RT+A+Back on Left Stick) then try to throw sand, dodge, throw sand. It worked really well once I got them all into the alley. Good luck.

This one was really pissing me off so after getting more pissed off by people saying its easy i tried #45 tip in florence nr leonardo's got 7/8 after me kept locking on and off backing away then holding x picking sand and release as they get close enough.

This achievement either has to be glitched somehow, or it doesn't work while on a missin. I was at the end part of the "Romagna Holiday" memory where you escort Leonardo, and I was at the end fighting guards. I stunned for them, all at once, with the sand, 3-4 times and nothing. Gah!

@56 That's because you have to be standing on hay or something, and I don't mean the haystack where you hide, I mean it's just there on the ground, it's very thin and you can walk over it without hiding in it

Thursday, July 18, 2013 @ 02:19:51 PM

Easiest way I found to do this was to wait till the Carnivale, on the 4th game when they try to cheat you and they send in 4 guards. Make sure when you finish off the big dude that you have your back toward a corner and as soon as it starts just hit LT quickly to target and then hold X and just wait for them to stand close enough to you. I got it on the first shot but if you don't, I would just start the memory over since it's not a very difficult one in the first place.

I just got it, but I see why everyone thinks it's stupid hard, because it us. Ezio constantly throws punches--you have to be standing a certain way on a pile of dirt for this to work. At least, that's what I did. I went to Florence, found a pile of dirt gathered next to a wall; found a group of guards to bother & led them to that spot. It took SEVERAL tries for him to actually grab the sand but it's possible. It's more annoying when you've grabbed the sand but the guards have ganged up on you & attack before you can throw it, smh. :/

The way I did it (and it only took one try) was to lure a bunch of guards through a small gap between buildings. Then, I tossed a smoke bomb leaving about 8 of them stunned. Back up a little and hit them with the sand.

My tips for getting it. Back dodge don't block. When you block, you almost always punch instead of gathering sand. There also seems to be a longer cooldown between ending the block and grabbing the sand as opposed to dodging and grabbing so by the the time you gather the sand, the next guard is hitting you (the hair pulling problem for me). Where I did it: There are these little square areas with only one entrance in Tuscany during the quest to kill the 4 suppprters. I got about 8 to follow me, back dodged, threw sand, back dodged, and repeated til somehow I hit 4. The 4th guy was somewhat to my side so the hit detection for the sand seems...extremely bad since he wasn't near the sand cloud and like 2 other guys were. It's NOT an easy achievement, but with a little(lot) of luck and a littl
