These are all minigames that you play against NPC's in various locations. You can bet a wager against them and the difficulty of the opponent increases throughout the game. They are simple games like, Fanorona is similar in a way to checkers, while Morris is maybe a little similar to tic tac toe with a twist. I have not come across anyone playing Bowls yet.

This achievement is so lame. They should be challenging, not impossible. Nine Men's Morris is retardedly hard. Anytime I get close to winning, the computer pulls some cheap ass move.

I just filmed that 20 minutes ago and put it on Youtube. Before I started filming I had 2 more pieces on the board that magically disappeared due to the NPC warping. Fucken horseshit, I am so rattled.

Its really hard since the NPCs are on expert but since you play against the pc its not all that hard.
They have a certain routine in their games. Just play the games a couple of times against an easier opponent and when you lose, try to use their strategy.

So, apparently I don't understand Nine Men Morris at all. Every single time I attempt to either place the third man to complete a mill (in all 3 phases), the game won't let me select the space I need to complete the mill. Every. Damn. Time. What am I doing wrong?

These games are the absolute worst. Glad to know I am not the only one that thinks they are pathetic. It's not about being hard. They are next to impossible. This Morris game is idiotic. There is literally no strategy to it other than let the computer win so you can, for some reason, move your piece anywhere you want and knock them out. About the only thing I can accomplish is getting them to call a tie. I get that not everything can be easy, but I haven't been able to win a single game of ANYTHING I've played and I'd like to think I am pretty competent.

To easily win every game of Fanorona follow these steps:
1) Visit this URL:
2) Under the "Level" tab set:
1 1/2 to 10 seconds
Then click OK.
3) Under the "Options" tab set:
- Computer is black, human plays white
- White pieces start at the top
- White makes the first move
- Multiple captures on first move ok
Then click OK.
4) Then in Assassins Creed, choose "No" to "Do you want to start first?"
5) For every move Achilles makes, do the same move in the Java game. Now replicate every move the Java game does in Assassins Creed.
The java game takes some time getting used to. Just play around with it to understand how you move and capture chips. Good luck!

Bowl is easy, fanorona is well...like chess, need to think ahead cuz you might lose quickly. Morris however took me a few shot to figure out but the easiest way to win is to reduce your opponent to 4 or 5 pieces and block him so he has no move available. this way i win on expert lvl everytime. NEVER take your opponent down to 3 pieces, they move everywhere and that is really ennoying.

Something to keep in mind to save time later is to bet 100 each time. The reason is there's a Thieves Challenge that requires you to have won a total of 500 from mini games, so each time you win towards the achievement you make this challenge just a little less time consuming later. Plus for the last 200 you can just find the beginner player for the game you're best at and kick his ass, like the Bowls guy near your ship.

Morris is really easy at least. just start by placing in the corners, block a mill anytime the computer is about to put the 3rd one in a row, hopefully you should get 1 or 2 mills of your own before you start moving the pieces around. if you do it right you should have more than 1 option for a mill with any 1 piece, making it so the computer cant block all your moves with only 1 turn.

I GOT IT EVERYONE. EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO WIN 9 MAN'S NORRIS LOOK HERE!
Okay, so my idea was to get the computer to verse a computer, because there is no way I can win a game I just learned. After a few tries, I WON.
Here is a link to a game
go to option, chose computer vs. human (that way in the computer game you can play as the assassin's creed computer) and then chose "hard". Eventually you will win! When you get down to 3 pieces though, you're on your own, try to make it so that one piece can go into two slots to form mills.
Another game is downloadable and has "unbeatable" setting, but you'd have to go second in assassin's creed. It's http://www.3d-morris.com/
SPREAD THE WORD yay!

@71 I also played against the priest in fanorona to get this achievement. At first I had a hard time following the video guide to beat him cause he always did something different, but if you keep starting a new match against him and do the same thing over and over, eventually he will do the exact same moves as the AI in the video. It takes patients and a ton of forfeiting. Just make sure not to bet any money. This won't effect you from getting the achievement.

First go to this site: http://merrelles.com/English.html and set the difficulty to VII (left side of the game). now start a nine men morris in the AC3 and let the dude plays first, and then all you have to do is make the same move he made into that flash/java game, and use the computer moves in your game. Got it done on first try. Btw, my english sucks, so i hope you guys can understand what i meant lol. (Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsX0Mp8cH8s )

just try to remove 5 of his 9 pieces don't remove anymore of his pieces or he will move his last 3 pieces as he likes so just remove 5 of them
after you did this just try follow his pieces till he can't moves
then you win the game

Set the game to Roman Numerals VII (7, way better than X360's Expert mode)
Then in X360 board, DO NOT PLAY FIRST ( SELECT NO)
every move X360 AI makes first (WHITE always moves first) MOVE on the MERELLES board using BLUE. Then whatever move the merelles AI makes on the website game (RED) YOU move on the X360. WINNING!

Anyone who is having trouble with fanorana try and get as many middle pieces as you can, that's how I managed to win.
I'm currently having trouble playing bowls though. The rating when you go against Godfrey isn't expert like the other too. So is it somewhere else I'm suppose to play on the homestead? Or is it suppose to be like that.

Watched a few vid's but no luck so I read you download an App on your phone called morris and you put it onto hard and you let them go first.
So keep track on your moves as you can get confused.
The moves they do on the app you do on Assassins morris and the ones he does you input on your phone game. So he goes first on your phone and you go first on the real game
Worked first time but i did read it doesnt always work but worth a try.

Finally got this yesterday. Morris is a nightmare. Twice I had him down to his last three pieces and had ALL of mine. I lost the first time and only had three myself in the second (winning game). The AI is brutal...thinks so many moves ahead. Fanorona was cake compared to Morris. I almost won my very first game. Won on probably my fifth game. Just look for multiple move opportunities...I ended up taking out almost his entire back row with a three move sequence. Good luck!

IMPORTANT: All games have to be done in one sitting. I had won Bowls once before but not the other two, and when I won the other two many days later - No Achievement. I played and won bowls in the same sitting as the other two - Achievement Unlocked.

If your stuck on Nine Man Morris please go to this website www.merrelles.com/English.html
Now set the game to roman numerals VII on the right side (should be the bottom one) Now back to the XBOX, let the innkeeper play first. Copy the innkeepers move onto the board on the website. So you play the Innkeepers moves on the website and you play the Websites moves on the XBOX. And you should win first time (he may take one of your pieces but after that it's a white wash)
Need a more info let me know

morris is the impossible one, if i play attacking i get 2 lines before we run out of chips, but sicne there all bunched together he traps me in ... instant lose
if i play defending he does so many double attacks that i lose too many pieces by the time i have 3 left so its too difficult to win from there ...
ive looked at guides and example games everywhere and he isnt half as hard on there as he is for me, he neve makes any silly moves or mistakes for me.
Impossible, about a month of playing it and im damn good but he is impossible.

anyone struggling with morris:
go first, your first few moves should be to take the spots that have 4 escapes, then 3 escapes ... avoid the corners as they only have 2 escapes.
From these positions you should be able to get double attacks (which means placing chips so that if he blocks your line you can still get one anyway).
Dont be greedy when placing chips, i only took one of his before the sliding part of the game.
Once you get to the sliding part, try to free up your pieces so they can move (again going for the spots that have 4/3 espace routes). make sure he cant move anywhere to get a line and think about 4/5 moves ahead.
If youve placed your piece well enough there should be a fair few oppertunitites to get a line, once you do keep moving it out and in until he only has 4 piec

4 pieces left
DO NOT TAKE ANOTHER ONE
Instead just try to block his pieces into the corners so he cant move at all and you win.
i played this game about 200 times and have never won by removing all his pieces, only once by trapping him in the corners!
Good luck, i hope everyone elses AI wasnt as hard as mine, he was supposed to be expert, not unbeatable.

Bowls is really, really really easy. To cheat.
When Terry is starting his throw, press Start and then back out of the pause menu about three times. He will drop the ball near his feet or really close to the throwing area... even if you suck at this minigame, you can beat it if you get it ANYWHERE near close to the jack.

What a terrible achievement.
First I thought setting up several AI's was a great idea, but for me it ended up in a lot of draws or losses.
I'm afraid you have to really play to understand the games to get this achievement.
Now that I have the achievement after almost 8 hours, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to play a single board game in Assassins Creed.

In 9 man morris, if u can manage to make it 3vs3 (3 pieces each) and never accept his draw offer (4x for me) he eventually makes a bad move. Just try keep 2 of ur 3 pieces together while blocking his rows. #119's strategy is the same 1 I used (just keep trying to beat Achiles back), and bowls is just a matter of persistence and knocking Terry's bowls out of the way while keeping your's as close to the red ball as possible, it doesn't matter if u go 1st or 2nd I've beat him both ways. And no u don't have to play all the games in succession but ALL MUST BE DONE ON THE HOMESTEAD.

The achievement is not glitched. To my knowledge you have to play Fanorona on Expert difficulty. It is automatically set to expert at the Homestead Mansion, so if you want the achievement you must play Fanorana there. It may be like that with Morris and Bowls as well, but I have not looked to see what difficulty they are set to, although it is most likely they also are set to Expert.

Courtesy of splinter4...thank you sir.
That link which must be run on a Java capable pc/mac will help prepare you to beat Achilles while splinter4 truly does simplify the technique if using the Java app. I will mention that if any thing these sites will train you how to play the game w/o aid. I say this because I utilized the Java app twice both times ending in stalemate (with me having the advantage in more pieces on the board). I then decided to run it on my own following a similar strategy learned from the app and within about 10 moves I had Achilles down to 2 pieces and was able to pin him into sacrificing himself. So after 100+ games of fanorona I finally

Now on to bowls I won the training missions pretty easily so it shouldn't be too hard sort of like a cross between bowling and pool. Should get this chevo now in no time.
Morris was easy enough to win especially with the aid of my phone game app the merriles version is pretty good too as mentioned earlier in the comments.

SLIGHT SPOILER BELOW
I was really struggling to beat Fanorona on the Homestead, Achilles was wiping the floor with me every time. If however you complete all of the homestead missions Achilles eventually dies, you then play Fanorana against the Reverend. I'm not sure if this drops the difficulty or not but I started to then get offers of draws in most games as they ended in stalemate rather than me losing badly, after about 8 games I managed to beat him.
