Eagle's Dive Achievement in Assassin's Creed

  • Eagle's Dive

    20

Perform 50 Combo Kills in Fights.

  • How to unlock Eagle's Dive

Combo kills are frustrating and take a lot of precision timing. Luckily you only need to get 50 of them this time.

    • While fighting, press to attack someone, the split second your sword makes contact with theirs, press again to combo kill them.
    • Constantly pressing until you kill them doesnt count as a combo kill
    • If you're having trouble with pulling off a combo kill, you can practice them in the courtyard in Masyaf

  • For some reason I haven't gotten this achievement yet and I've done the counter attack move at least 200+ times. I even did 50 combo moves in a single battle to see if that was what I needed but no luck. I'm on my way to the practice arena to see if I can do it there.
  • Let me know if that worked.? I'm having trouble with this one too!
  • I read somewhere that you can do this achievement in the practice arena. Works. Absolute pain to get though.
  • i actually won it by going to the practice area. I thought I had enough of the kills in the story, but it took 48 of the kills for me to get it in the practice area
  • This has to be the hardest achievement in the game
  • This is the only one I have yet to get.
  • this one sucks too...i know I've done it a million times
  • I can also confirm that you can get it in the practice area. I also find it a lot easier to pull the Combos off while having selected the Combo Attack challenge too; the game seems to be a lot more generous with the timing there (although not in the practice fight where I couldn't pull any off for some reason). Either way this Achievement was annoying.
  • First I tought I doing combo kills but I think it counts only if you kill the enemy in an animation. Simple swordfight with a kill doesn't count. You have to be good with the timing.
  • I received the combo kills after killing some of the more difficult guards. I think some of them expect you to do a three hit succession and then strike. If you don't get a little move thing that Altair does, like say slap in the face and then stab, then you may not have gotten it.
  • man this is a challenge for sure, I am sure that I have done this but still no achievement
  • this one was a pain in the ass, so glad I got it towards the end of the game
  • I ended up getting the timing down perfectly in the ring. the timing is not when you see the sparks. the timing is when you first hear the sound of the swords hitting eachother. and yes you can get this achievement by repeating the combo kill tutorial.
  • Beat the game and still had to do it 15 times in the practice arena. It's Almost bad as the flag challenges.
  • This one is a terrible challenge. Is this fight tactic in the second game?
  • i think it's pretty easy achievment
  • I think a lot of you are getting counter kills and combo kills mixed up. Let me clarify. Counter kills are easy, it's simple, hold right trigger and press x when they attack. To do a combo kill however, you must not hold your right trigger down at all. It is rather hard to do but you must anticipate and press x just as your swords clash after doing the first x attack. You have to be VERY precise. When you succeed you will get a mini cut scene very familiar to a counter kill. I tried to do it outside the training area but I got too lazy, in the end it turns out I had already done it 40 times outside the training area so I only had to do it 2 1/3 times. Overall quite easy if you do it in the training area, they give you a lot more time to press x. Good luck guys, hope this helps.
  • i thought it was easy
  • I reckon Elemental Kiwi is right, I got tons of cut scenes happening but no achievement. Must of been doing counters instead of combos. Off to the training area to get this one.
  • its easier to do it in counter attack challenge then in Combo Attack challenge since Combo Attack challenge only lets you do it 3 timnes
  • just made sure that it works and it does faster cuz the npc wont attack you as much and the challenge wont end till you either press start or counter the amount of times they want you to.
  • all this time I thought I was doing combo kills when in reality I was just swinging my sword around like an idiot.
  • Confirmed that you can get this by doing to combo kill tutorial over and over. I'm horrible on my timing so this was the easiest way for me to get this achievement.
  • Having trouble with this one.
  • most people aren't using the correct method i can't entirely remember but i think it means you have to chain them where its you kill one guy then another within 5 seconds and that counts as 1 explaining why most people dont get it.
  • Agreed with dragonbeat359. You can do the combo kill tutorial and you'll get the achievement (this way, you also know when you've hit someone properly)
  • you DO NOT get a Combo Kill if you're holding RT, that's a Counter Kill, the Combo Kill is just you pressing X and nothing else and timing them - if you see the animation and you have RT in, then you're doing a Counter Kill, which goes towards Eagle's Swiftness. You can definitely get this in the training arena, but I found that once the guards start getting smart that you can't do Combo Kills in the story, you're restricting yourself to Counter Kills - when I got the cheevie I had to do 2 sets in the arena for it to pop... If you REALLY want to grind it, just go to the arena and concentrate on the Combo Kill training.
  • Just got this one. I had to do it in the practice arena. I couldn't seem to get the timing down at first but if you press x, a, x really fast it seems to work. i don't know if stepping in has anything to do with it or if this just helped with my timeing.
  • i just did it. all you have to do is do it on practice arena
  • Yeah, you guys are getting combo and counter kills mixed up. A combo kill has an animation showing you killing the guard, but they're a bit different animations from counter kills. Supposedly you're supposed to press X right when the blades clash, but it's sort of hard to time. I found it a bit easier to do with the short blade, but that may have been because I was mashing the X button like crazy with those fights.
  • This achievement is gay and annoying. Like how many times do you have do it in the practice arena
  • I finally got it thank god man.
  • As soon as I was able to practice my Combo Kills in the practice arena I started immediately. I did 50 combo kills in a row in sets of 3. You do a Combo Kill 3 times and restart. I did it till I hit 50, and kept count to make sure and I got the achievement. It only took 10 minutes tops including I did a Combo Kill each time I tried. It worked for me...it will work for you :) PS: Just watch your timing!
  • I did this 50 times in the practice arena and... nothing. Do I have to at least get one in combat or something?
  • I've got this one today in the practice arena but I got one combo kill against a guard. So it's works in the practice arena
  • tahnks for the info guys ive been doing counters >.
  • Jeez this achievement really isn't as hard as you people are making out. As long as you have decent timing you can get it. A combo kill is not the counter one, where you hold RT (block) and then press X to counter as they attack. A combo kill is done by attacking an enemy three or more times in succesion, but so the combat didn't just turn into button mashing, you have to tap the X button in rhythm: tap the X button again when your swords clash and you'll see Altair quickly attack again, rather than his sword rolling along the enemies. You'll know when you did it right because combat will feeling much more fluid and you'll get death animations after a chain of well-timed hits, rather than just hitting the guy and he dies.
  • Confirmed that you can do it in the Practice area. I did this one in Memory Block 2, when you get your sword back. I chose to do it in the Combo Kill practice (not Practice Fight) and I calculated it would take me 16-17 rounds (since after each 3 combo kills he says "And that my students is how you all should fight" and you get back to the screen where you choose what you want to practice. This I did only so I could count how many times I had to do it before getting the achievement (since I've completed the game). 43 combo kills in the Practice area and I was done :) I also used Counter attack, since I thought this was the attack to use (was a long time since I started the game and I had forgotten the different attacks, such as combo kill).
  • I fkin HATE combos. I tried to do them but the only way I can get the timing right is by doing it in Practice Arena. Everywhere else I'm not getting the mini cut scene for combo kills.
  • Got in the practice area, didn't take long at all.
  • I dont get it why you all have so much trouble with this. :D I got this in a halfway of the game. You need to just attack normally wit x and tehn just press x exactly same when the sword hits the enemy.
  • most definitely a glitchy achievement, i got it in practice area (combo kill). counted over a hundred but finally got it after about 15 or 20 minutes.
  • thanks for telling me i have been for a while
  • As many have said above, It definately works in training area :D
  • this achievement blows
  • so basicly as ive seen with videos you jus keep going into training so many times and keep doing the combo kill and it will appear???
  • last one to get off to the training ground
  • thank God you can use the practice area......this is going on my pain in the ass achivements list
  • #47 i confirm do in the practice area combo kill, it works :)
  • not worth doing in the training really boring i just got it playing through the game probably got over 100 by the end
  • I beat the game and didn't get this x_x I guess I just suck at doing combos.
  • I wish all games had pictures for achievements as cool as these.
  • Practice Arena 17 times will give this to you.
  • arena here i come oh i hate this achievement
  • easy one took me 10 mins in the arena
  • Got this in the Practice Arena. Only had to do 12 sets of 3 (36) until the cheevo popped. Yay!
  • I just did this through natural progression. The timing seems more generous if you do this achievement before you get countering
  • Guess I'm throwing AC back in and trying again for this one, thanks for the tips.
  • so many grinding achievements, at least the sequel had some imagination
  • Only needed 1 round in the practice arena to pop this one
  • So you can get this achievement by doing the combo attack in the practice arena?
  • SUPER EASY TO DO!!! go to practice ring in Masyaf (however its spelt) and do it there i went into the ring like 13 times and BLIP 20G :)
  • Confirmed that you can get this while doing Counter Attack training, as your opponent will get up after each successful attempt, versus the Combo Kill training which only allows you to Combo Kill your opponent three times before having to repeat.
  • Honestly, this makes combat a lot more interesting. I've the whole series either waiting for the counter kill, throwing people of roofs, or mashing the X button, but this deffinately adds more thought to it. I started the game with a focus on getting this and it unlocked during the 4th assassination sequence. Not hard once you get the hang of it, and I don't think you need the cinematic to happen for it to count. I will say that if you need to, the practice arena does make this easier. I think the timing is much more forgiving there, and you don't have to worry about getting hit from behind. Just remember: DO NOT hold RT And hit X right when your sword makes contact.
  • It still works in practice arena.
  • As mentioned before it's easily done in the pratice arena. I found that holding X for at more powerfull swing makes it easier to time your combo attack. It took me about 10 minutes and i haden't done more than a few during story play. Try it out and good luck :)
  • i lost my saves so noticed i didn't have the Eagle's Dive cheevo. being out of practise i played the combo kill in the courtyard/arena over and over.. i wanted to get it so i could combo 50% of the time since it's the only bloody attack i have at this stage [after finding informant]. suddenly, after god knows how many combo kills in arena the cheevo popped up. so, to confirm, u can get this as soon as you get your sword back in the training arena. easy.
  • I was having a lot of trouble getting the timing right. After practising the combo kill in the arena the achievement popped. It took a little longer than 10 minutes as I was severely out of practice.
  • #69 yeh, weird that. i think i got another cheev in the practise arena practising the skill but can't rem which one since i lost my first save! damn handy tho, eh?
  • I would do it in the practice arena
  • Just Got it in the practice arena.
  • Takes alot of time. hate this one
  • Hell yea I finally got this one today....I had the game when It first came out and havent played it in awhile...jus now goin back thru to get all cheevos....
  • Oh yea and getting some of them from the combo kill tutorial helped bunches here...jus eo some missions and when it sends u back to Masyaf jus do a couple...or if u want do it all here in one sitting...its gonna take awhile though....
  • I think you get three "kills" when you do it in the ring (before what's-his-face ends the round and goes, "and that is how we all should fight!"). It's all a matter of if you get the little animation at the end. Make sure you aren't holding RT, otherwise you could be doing counter kills instead. It's obviously better with single targets if you prefer to do it out on the field, you'll have a bit more elbow room to concentrate on the timing. You'll know you are doing it right if your sword "bounces" off the enemy's sword, rather than slide along it. Once you get an animation, it's a kill. If it's just a basic hack on the neck/chest without a camera cutaway, it probably doesn't count. It appears (from how I've been playing) that you need to chain the hits all the way from the enemy's fu
  • (con't) -- It appears (from how I've been playing) that you need to chain the hits all the way from the enemy's full health to death for a successful kill. Best to concentrate on lone targets. Overall, you'll probably have an easier time getting it all on the practice ring if you want to grind it and get those 20G over with. Don't just mash X, you will just get thrown around half the time.
  • Somebody should REALLY add a notice about this to the Overview, because this is a missable Achievement, and was the only one I did not obtain in a single playthrough. To confirm what others said above, the only practical way to get this is to keep replaying the relevant part of the training arena in Masyaf. It's highly unlikely that you'll obtain this in the course of regular gameplay. I really do recommend constantly replaying the training arena combo-kill section until the Achievement pops up as soon as you have access to it, before you relearn any of the other abilities. You'll get 3 of these per session, and when done just do another session for another 3 instead of quitting, and so on until the achievement pops.
  • Does the training arena in Masyaf method still work or did they patch it out? Just recently started playing the Assassin's Creed series on my bf's 360 so I'm still new at this lol
  • I can confirm the achievement will unlock in the practice combat kill training. With the game being free today for “gold membership” I went back and started getting my missed achievements. And I earned this one in the practice area and it took a few minutes.
