Can this be done? I have spent ages and only got a few medals, is it me or are these challenges really hard to complete, harder than they should be for 50G.

It's a good idea to try and get at LEAST a 7x variation bonus per round. 8x is worth 3,500 points and 9x is worth a solid 5,000 so having a couple of those will definitely help out a lot.

The best way to rack up points trust me is to perform ground take downs, they're
worth 100 points. I found SHOCK AND AWE EXTREME to be the hardest combat challenge
use u're batarangs after every hit, try to perform as many take downs as possible when u get them.

Saturday, January 29, 2011 @ 06:42:08 AM

Ground takedowns are worth 100 points times your total current combo. They are very good but you have to be careful when you do them because you're vulnerable. I try to save them for towards the end AFTER you build up a high enough combo for them to be worth it.

Damn, I just ranked 88th in the world on shock and awe extreme. My advice is to not even bother with the dudes who go and grab the guns; let them go and get it and just stomp anyone who tries to pick it back up. You can use the batclaw to pull them down from that second level if you want to keep your combo going and they are the last enemy left.

Monday, January 31, 2011 @ 05:57:46 PM

And 41st place on regular shock and awe. Another good tip for these is to throw batarangs when you have your combo built up because they automatically seem to target the dudes with the shock batons which makes life much easier.

I wish this thing had an edit button because I just moved up to 22nd on shock and awe extreme. From my experience, enemies are totally random when it comes to going for guns. Sometimes they won't ever pick a gun up and it's sitting there the whole round and other times they can't keep their hands off it; this goes for any round with guns available. What really sucks is when you get shot off a titan on round 4 of rumble extreme.

Thursday, February 03, 2011 @ 08:29:43 PM

The safest way to perform ground takedowns without getting hit is to keep throwing batarangs at them, stunning or jumping over them so they don't attack as you try to perform a ground takedown.

Friday, February 04, 2011 @ 02:51:25 AM

Once again, ground takedowns aren't going to get you that many points until you build up a high combo. While you're building up that combo it's a smart idea to work on the x9 variation. I'm in the top 100 of every single combat challenge and I can guarantee that the +20,000 for 4 rounds of freeflow perfection definitely contributed.

Friday, February 04, 2011 @ 02:59:36 AM

Freeflow perfection = x9 variation which is 5,000 per round. Not to be confused with the flawless freeflow bonus of 1,000 per round for never breaking your combo from beginning to end.

Friday, February 04, 2011 @ 03:38:26 AM

Anyway, ground takedowns with many enemies still around is a highly advanced strategy and is only necessary if you want to score double and triple what is necessary to get the gold medals. If you just want the achievement then don't even jeopardize your combo by going for one until almost all the enemies are down. Stick to the x8-x9 variation and keep it simple with as many regular power strikes as possible and you will get the 3 bats no problem.

Friday, February 04, 2011 @ 06:46:28 PM

i agree, ground takedowns throughout a round should not be used unless you are trying to top the leaderboards or something. it's much easier and safer to just get a long combo going while mixing in variations. even if you get hit after getting a 9 variation it will still count because it was your highest variation of the round. that's plenty of points for 3 medals.

Yep. Well I moved up into the top 25 of almost every challenge and top 50 of whatever else except sewer bat extreme.

These are a lot of fun; I hope Arkham City brings them back so I can get an early crack at the leaderboards.

OK i've done some math on this nightmare.

I've worked out the max scores using just strike and instant takedown every five hits on enemies up to 16. 1 hit scores 10, 2 hits adds 20=30, 3 hits makes it 60, 4=100 and takedown adds 5*50=250 + 100 totalling 350 and so on.

Using the formula of rounding down each wave to the nearest five hit (takedown) chain to allow for error as in later levels it's near impossable to do a perfect round to see if just using these two moves will work.

E.G. First chall is 3 enemies then 5 then 6 and finally eight giving points for each round as 1150/2400/4200/8850 totalling 16600.
You need 18000 so devide it by 16600 gives 1.08
1150*1.08=1242(target score) then 2400*1.08=2592+1242=3834(round two target) and so on...

Monday, June 20, 2011 @ 04:54:51 PM

Now each target score is for the full round including bonus points so if above, good, if below, work to be done next round! Remember to look at final figure after bonus's are added.

So round one goes like this....
1=1242 2=3834 3=8370 4=17928 I know but this gives you ballpark figures to aim at using just strike and instant takedown. With mixing bonus's etc added to the mix you should get a fair idea how you are doing.

I did this because I was getting sick of restarting whene I really did not need to because you can have a gash second round and still pummel the third and be back on track.

Here are the spec's:-

Sewer Bat (1.08 modifier)

Shock and Awe (1.1)

Rumble (.77) I've worked in 300 pts for titans in these.

Int Treat X (1.03)

Sewer Rat X (.69)

Fecking Shock and Awe X (1.03)

Monday, June 20, 2011 @ 05:40:41 PM

I know these seem to contradict a lot of views about always getting 10 to 20k in round one but this is just the theoretical for just using hit and takedown (you will need counter as well). Try to get a round two score in the first round will see you well on you're way.

It may save a few joypad souls.

Bye the way I'm still six away from gold. Still damn hard.

Always try to get the 9x variation/perfect combo from the beginning, save the throw until the enemies have thinned out a bit....then throw a guy away from the crowd and ground pound.

Actually not that difficult after you get the hang of it! In the beginning, I though that this was bloody bullshit, and damn right impossible, but when you get in a flow it's not!
What I try do to is to build up a big enough combo to be able to use takedown, and I always direct this move to the guys with the knives or electrical tazers. This avoids a lot of frustration when kinda stressed and losing your 40+ combo just because you forgot to cape stun the bitch with the knife or some such.
Tip number two: never get caught in the middle. Try to build your combo and move to end to end of the room. This will help you avoid lucky hits by the goons, as well as the guys with the guns or with blocks.
Hope this can help someone atleast! Great game, looking forward to playing Arkham City!

Finally got it! I only used hit and instant takedown with the odd counter on all.

I also left both shock and awe's till last. Did first one after bout fifteen attempts constantly getting 20-25k then got the no damage bonus to complete it.

I then took a deep breath and went S&A(M?) extreme and did it on my third attempt! I'm not going to say it was easy, probably more a fluke.

The Hardest I found was jungle extreme. To do this before riding the beasties make sure to always counter incoming attacks so you have a 10-15 combo whene you start beast bashing the thugs.

It took me practically a whole day to do this and I can honestly say I don't think I've ever sworn so much in all my life. It was both of the Shock and Awes that gave me the most problems.

What was getting me so annoyed was that I could easily get up to the 30,000 points but the last round in Shock and Awe for enemy placement is a complete mess. All the enemies cluster together and it's so difficult to see which guys had the blades and which guys had the eletric batons. So as a result I would lose combos and get hit and totally f**k the round up to end up with the time running out.

Eventually I just had this amazing last round where I didn't lose my combo once and got a perfect 5000 bonus score because if it on top of other bonus points.

The combat challenges are very unforgiving

Once you've learned all the moves its so easy to remember .
TIP: You can keep evading (A) until you make your next move to continue your
The hardest one for me was Shock & Awe.
To get a good score and beat all the enimies under a certain time limit is hard.
Also, another tip. If you do a takedown (Rt+Y) it will multiply your combo by
100. So for example... if you're on a 15 hit combo, and do a takedown you will
recieve 1500 points for it. So pretty much, for the last kills batclaw them,
evade over them and takedown them and you will recieve big points!

FINALLY beat Shock & Awe Extreme... many f-bombs and rage quits. My strategy was to get at least a 7x variation with a flawless freeflow which ranges about 7,000 to 9000. Then after that just build up a combo with a throw first then just takedowns and throw batarangs after each takedown/throw. Nothing fancy when building up combos either in later rounds. F-bombs do help too...

"My strategy was to get at least a 7x variation with a flawless freeflow which ranges about 7,000 to 9000." - Forgot to mention this is for just the first round. In later rounds just build up combos to throw and takedown, with takedowns more and more as time expires.

My tip to others who hasn't completed this challenge is to make sure to have some
extra pack of batteries as this will not come easy and ob your first try. Of course
make sure your girlfriend, wife or parents are not at home as you'll be swearing a lot.

I personally used ultra batclaw to take to the ground guys with electric sticks and
tried to finish dudes with kinves first. Main thing is not to give up and keep trying
as it will come naturally. At first I was able to finish round 1 and 2 with no problems, yesterday round 3 was no problem as well, today I was able to also survive round 4 and finally get those 3 medals.

Completed this last night after giving it up as too hard for several months.
The game play tips above are all good but the most important tip I can give for this is to stay calm and do it in small bites. I found that the longer I played in one session, the worse my scores got, I would then come back to it a couple of hours later and do a challenge first time.

This is one of the achievements I'm most proud of getting

@Hollyrose - I find that same thing happens to me. The combat challenges are just so infuriating! I finally have Silver, though. The end is in sight.

I did notice one thing - I haven't beaten Shock and Awe Extreme, but my score is still in the top 50,000 on the leaderboards. That means that fewer than 50,000 people (worldwide?) have gotten the Perfect Knight achievement. That's MADNESS!

Just got this. The trick is to have someone calm you down every time you screw up. I had my gf sitting next to me while I was doing this so that made it much easier. Anyway a few tips for S n E Extreme, rack up at least 8k in the first round, in the second two try to get at least 20x combo, and in the final round don't even bother going for variation just get to 5x as fast as possible and use the b+y to take out the gun guy and keep the combo going until you at least take out all the stun gun guys. FUCK YEAH, finally made it after almost a year I started the game (yeah, i'm a retrogamer XD)

To those who are still on it and have an hard time... watch a couple of walkthroughs on YT, I really didn't understand how to pile up the score until I was frustrated and watched the guide on how to get the Freeflow Perfection.

The only way to get this is build up for ginormous combos, preserve the Special Takedown when you are at the last couple of henchmen for a good score and possibly get the last of the combo with the Ground And Pound... imagine to make a 30x100 combo ;)

Of course situations do vary and you have to decide what will get you most points in the situations, you will often try a Ground And Pound and loose the whole multiplier because you are too fare to perform it :(
