|Completed the game on 1999 mode.|
At the main menu, type in the code described in "Should Auld Acquaintance...". Start your game on this mode. It is the hardest mode in the game. Below is what to expect compared to
Essentially, you will dominate pretty much everything. You get brief invulnerability on Charge attacks and it recharges your shield. It also adds explosive damage to the attacks. Once you have hit an enemy with Charge, start using melee on them. You will electrocute and stun them, then do 2x damage for 5 seconds. You will gain health upon their death as well as salts. As you hit them, they will continue to get stunned. One exception is Handymen and Sirens whom don't get stunned, so you will have to fight them with weapons as well.

What is 1999 mode?
An Arcade mode with score?
Or a new Game Plus like Batman Arkham City? with different enemy placement and stronger AI.
Anyone knows? Sorry I am not keeping up with information on this game :)

@8 What are you talking about? Dark Souls doesnt have an "Insane Difficulty" It has one base difficulty which is increased slightly on every new game + and its barely even enough to be considered a separate difficulty as it only changes enemies HP and damage output. It doesnt change the gameplay by adding an increase in enemies or more challenging enemies and it doesnt make their attack patterns or abilities change either. Most games do most or all of these things and more when adding different difficulty levels making the game a different experience all together. 1999 mode doesnt sound anything like Dark Souls in any way.

@10 chill out bro, we're just discussing the game and making comparisons. Either way, Dark Souls is SOLID and 1999 mode sounds like that. But i don't understand why people on here get so stressed out and hett-up when someone posts something they don't like, or agree with.
Getting back to the game, I gotta be honest, I'm not one for the crazy difficulty levels. I tend to play for the story or gameplay. But i also like a challenge. Will have to check it out, but if it's stressful, i'll do it on normal and keep my mind on the story (my favourite thing about Bioshock in general). Think i'm gonna miss Rapture though.

I wonder how they are gonna implement "permanent choice consequences" as #7 said. You would think your decisions would be permanent across all difficulty levels. Anything else would seem unrealistic, to me anyways.
Like in Dark Souls for example, once you cross a certain guild/covenant you can never rejoin (unless you absolve your sins) or if you kill an npc they are gone forever. These types of consequences make me seriously think about something before i do it, which I think should be a feature that is not optional if its a feature at all.

If you need help, look to the IGN walkthrough for the pattern of attacks your enemies use.
As for the last fight, fully upgrade the: Sniper Rifle(for the patriots and barge cannons), Shotgun(for All enemies), Undertow(use on all ground enemies), Shield and Health Infusion. Gear to use: Winter Shield, Rising Bloodlust, Sky-Line Reloader, Newton's Law. Plan of attack: Continuously jump on and off the sky-lins, striking and landing next to enemies to keep them stunned. Whenever possible use Undertow to push enemies off the ledge; when used on Patriots it will stun them(like Shock Jockey). Watch your health and salt level and keep moving around. When the Barge Cannons show up, destroy them with the sniper rifle, then resume your attack on the infantry. Using this method I beat the fight wi

1999 mode was not as hard as I expected. Although certain points did prove to be a little more of a challenge than others. Mainly the ghost of Lady Comstock(Highly suggest just sticking back behind some cover and go for head shots with the sniper) , as well as the final fight. For the most part if you take your time it shouldn't be to bad.

Oh and spam the winter shield gear if you have it, makes you invincible when jumping on or off sky rails :).

Yes, just got it! The two parts that gave me the most trouble were the 2nd encounter with Lady Comstock and the very end of the game on the airship. I found the best way to deal with Comstock was to keep your distance and go for headshots with the sniper rifle, which I would recommend upgrading as soon as you can. As for the airship,Alex1906's strategy worked really well for me. Only instead of using the songbird on the patriots, I used return to sender to protect myself while constantly shooting them in the head with either the crank gun or sniper rifle.

Once you are far enough along in the game, using the following setup in 1999 mode gives you a distinct advantage and makes you almost unstoppable if you play smart. This a great strategy while attempting the Auld Lang Syne and Scavenger Hunt achievements.
1) CHARGE: This melee attack will be your new core ability and the basis of your offensive strategy, upgrade it twice AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to receive:

3) BOOTS: Vampire's Embrace - Melee kills give health

2) CARBINE, SHOTGUN, HAND CANNON - upgrade these at least three times each and swap them out as the situation arises and based on your ammo reserves, (especially if going for the scavenger hunt achievement) this will be your primary weapon to back up CHARGE which will be your primary attack.

STRATEGY: Using the CHARGE vigor with the above load-out will allow you to fly across the map striking targets wherever they are located. As you strike, you will do explosive melee damage and likely set the target and any nearby enemies on fire, your shield will recharge, you will regain health and likely regain salts all while being temporarily invincible. If the enemy does not die on the first hit or from the fire, he will now be glowing red and susceptible to double damage from another CHARGE or your firearm. This is great for Handymen and Patriots because if you CHARGE repeatedly and fire your RPG, they will die very quickly.
Most enemies will die in 1-2 hits and some will die instantly from the fire. Using this strategy, I did take some damage, but walked away from most large

SIREN BOSS FIGHT 3X:
All 3 encounters against the siren lasted 15 seconds or less and she is very susceptible to fire. As the fight starts just spam CHARGE immediately to get close and continue to charge and shoot her and she will die very quickly and all the undead will just burn up as they will still be standing right next to her. I seriously felt like I was cheating becuase the fight was over so quickly.

this strategy made the game feel easy on 1999 mode. During the final battle, the enemies will charge and shoot the core instead of you, so come in from behind and CHARGE them and shoot with your RPG, there is plenty of RPG ammo on the deck and salts by the Bridge to recharge.
ADDITIONAL NOTES ON GEAR:
1)Swap out BLOOD FOR SALTS for WINTER SHIELD while around skylines
2)Equip HANDYMAN NEMESIS if having trouble with the Handymen
3)Swap out BURNING HALO for ELECTRIC TOUCH or ELECTRIC PUNCH if having trouble with Patriots

Finishing Command Desk in 1999 mode isn't so tough. My "trick" is to wait for the airships to drop their Patriots and use Songbird to kill them. Using Songbird to kill ground troops has a very short cool-down timer, so I could send him after the airship right away. Using upgraded Devil's Kiss and the Charm vigor made short work of the very few remaining ground soldiers.
Handyman fights weren't so bad either. Using Skyline Strikes against the other ground troops is probably my only advice.

The Siren is much easier with the Gears Electric Punch (with season pass DLC) or Burning Halo to disintegrate any corpse she resurrects. If the corpse is gone she can't summon it again. Another VERY USEFUL Gear is Spectral Sidekick. It is one of those rare Gears that can only be found in a certain place - The Bank of the Founders. That means you have to fight her at least once to gain access to it. This gear saved me many times while fighting her.

If any part of the game is going to cause you to lose, it is the graveyard fight. If you can't get it done within the first five or so tries, it becomes so much more difficult due to the lack of ammo and health kits. It is possible if you are in this position without health kits or ammo and you just keep dying. Each time you spawn, try to get the AI to camp a location, (I got them to camp around the high ground by the crank gun and was able to just sit by the entrance by the shotgun spawn), and if you have either the sniper rifle or the carbine, try to pick off the siren with headshots. Having tunnel vision or the headmaster perk helps a lot. Just keep at it and hopefully Elizabeth will find you ammo, if not there is a burstgun on the ground near the entrance on the raised part near/on

I just be a this, sirens are easy once you use CHARGE fully upgraded and the four gear mods, burning halo, brittle skinned, overkill and blood to salt, it will literally take 10 seconds to beat her as long as you keep spamming charge on her.
Handymen are a little bit trickier, the first battle with them use the bitch glitch found here:
The other three: equip winter shield and critical hit damage boost and just ride the rails until he gets on to electrocute them, jump off and repeatedly shoot him, then jump back on the rails and repeat, it's a little tricky but effective.
The last battle is the hardest and it will require some thought, use songbird as soon as you can and try to only use him on zeppelins or gunships. You can take out the main

This is, BY FAR, the easiest method to complete 1999 mode: First, fully upgrade your Charge vigor ASAP. Also helps to have the Posession for Less upgrade. For Infusions I upgraded my shield first, then salts. Best Gear to have is Burning Halo, Winter Shiled, Brittle Skinned and Vampire's Embrace. Basically, any heavy hitter just use Charge/melees on. When you fight Handymen I found it's best to completely ignore them and focus on the goons and the Handymen always disappear, except the final Handyman fight which you just use Charge/melees on. If you use Charge combined with the equipment I mentioned (Use Pyromaniac instead of Winter Shield) above you can take out the Sirens in less than 10 seconds. Whenever there's a skyline make sure to have Winter Shield on and just do skyline strikes on

Play smart and get in cover when you can. Fully upgraded Carbine/Shotgun/Sniper Rifle are really useful too. Most enemies can be taken out with 1 headshot from a fully upgraded Sniper Rifle.
