We want to give our oldest and most committed fans an option to go back to our roots,’ says creative director Ken Levine. ‘In 1999 Mode, gamers face more of the permanent consequences of their gameplay decisions. In BioShock Infinite, gamers will have to sweat out the results of their actions. In addition, 1999 Mode will demand that players pick specialisations, and focus on them.
1999 Mode will also feature ‘demanding weapon, power, and health management’. There’s also a ‘much harder stand on player respawning, sending the gamer directly to a Game Over screen if he or she lacks the resources to be brought back to life.’We’re not sure what the relevance of 1999 is meant to be though, as that wasn’t a particularly memorable year for gaming. However it did see the release of System Shock

Such a dull list for a truly anticipated title. Then again, the first game's list wasn't anything special either.

@13 what the hell are you talking about? would you rather them go the Tomb Raider route and throw in 1/3 of the achievements towards a multiplayer list? Thank god they took out multiplayer for infinite!
Out of ALL achievement lists out there...this isn't that bad.
Of course you could always skip this game and go play games such as Avatar and max them out in 4 minutes rather than actually "achieve" anything.

I don't care if I can't get all achievements in a game because of their difficulty. That's perfectly legit. I'm only annoyed with achievements that force you to grind something boring for a long time, like some multiplayer achievements. This list is pretty good compared to BS2!
Anyways, I got "I Chose the Impossible" in Bioshock 1 (extra difficulty Survivor on PS3 done without Vita-Chambers) and it wasn't that bad, so this shouldn't be too hard.

@22 I agree, its always better to start on normal or a medium-hard difficulty, that way you can focus on the games story and level design without devoting too much of your attention to not dying. Also, 1999 mode will not be available until after completing the game, which proves that Irrational agrees with this method.
Anyone know what the melee weapon will be? Clearly we will have to depend on melee frequently when hunting this chievo.

#25 it sends you back to the main menu if you can't pay for the respawn. Then you just start over from the last check point. (honestly it should just start you from the last checkpoint and revive ALL the enemies and reset the items...going back to the main menu seems like it'll be bothersome)

Shit why even have the different difficultys without a reason to play any of them imo... Anyway i think this list is just fine. Not the best ever but the game is great so that def makes up.

What about accidentally opening a Dolla Bill machine but closing it without buying anything? Does just opening the Dolla bill mahcine trigger the achievement void, or does it have to be a purchase before it's void? Just the machine look so similar...

Friday, March 29, 2013 @ 09:39:28 AM
@24 Im sure that the devs did not intend for that code to be used otherwise they would have just had 1999 mode available from the start. My point being that the creators would prefer us to get to know the game before jumping head first into the hardest difficulty. However, I do realize that this is a matter of opinion which is why the code exists.

@30 #26 just is just saying that the collectibles will carry over into 1999, not everything. So u will have to recollect all vigors, infusions, upgrades, and gear.
@29 Its okay if u accidentally enter the dollar bill machine, the description says u just cant purchase anything from it. The Vendi vigors and Minute Munitions are alright to buy from. soo no ammo, health, or salts can be purchased or it is void.

@31 "1999 Mode doesn’t require you to complete the game before you can experience it. However, since we don’t want just anybody stumbling across it by accident and getting overwhelmed, we’re toying with the idea of “unlocking” it from the main menu. First to the guy who thinks the konami code wasn't meant to be there come on. That doesn't end up there on accident and the reason people know its there is from interviews with ken Levine. Second for anyone who's trying this, it's hard as hell to start but once you get the shield it's not too bad. I did this on my first play through and found it to be the most rewarding way to play (I restarted after an hour or so because hard was way too easy). I reccomend doing this achievement on your first play through as it really makes you experience everything in the world, where as on hard supplies are abundant and you will likely miss a lot following the direction arrow around (in 1999 the arrow it removed leaving you to navigate on your own). I must say I am beyond impressed with this game.

I've never been much of a achievement hunter, but this was one achievement that was interesting yet challenging.
1999 mode has some really tough levels to get through. Fighting the Siren (Lady Comstock), entering Comstocks house (those white suit psyco boys almost got the best of me) and the command deck. There are some great online guides to help you get through though.
Also, the operating room was a drag for me, probably even the most challenging in my opinion. I had no bullets, no upgrades, was low on money and health and I was facing a heavy hitter and some heavy armored shot gun types(Ain't th

Just got this, actually found it easier than hard mode oddly. Probably as you know where enemies will come from so in set battles place lots of vigor traps.
Siren battle is easiest with charge vigor fully upgraded; vampire, brittle skin and that fire melee gear with a shotgun equipped. Kills her in about 30 seconds.
Also I accidently went into dollar machines / possessed them and still got achievement so don't worry about doing that.

Just got this today. Some tips for those of you about to undertake this:
Scavenge everything. Obviously. But if you find food or pop that you don't need, exit the trashcan or wherever you're searching and leave it for later. Many areas you have to backtrack through and you will need it for your return trip.
Only upgrade the necessities. I beat 1999 mode with only minor weapon upgrades. I stuck to damage boost for my shotgun, rocket launcher, and carbine; even those I purchased very late in the game. Vigor upgrades are more imporant but again, stick with the necessites. Get possession of humans right away to help conserve ammo. Next you'll want to upgrade devil's kiss to add mini clusters. Now, save up your silver eagles because the next thing you want is possession for less.
Sunday, April 07, 2013 @ 03:15:40 PM
This goes a long way toward saving your salts (and ammo) for the rest of the game. Finally you'll want crow's trap, devil's kiss boost, and undertow boost to double the effective range.
Save your silver eagles for respawn. In the final battle with the Siren I went through about 1,000 silver eagles as death carries a cost of 100.
Utilize the handyman glitch in the Plaza of Zeal.
Crows traps are effective for stunning enemies and once you have the upgrade the ones you kill become crows traps themselves.
Undertow, undertow, undertow. Especially for the last 1/4 of the game.
Be patient; anytime you can duck behind cover and use tears like rocket automation and mosquitos do it. Saves you ammo, salts, and health.
Be sure to equip the correct gear for your situation. Hopefu

Be sure to equip the correct gear for your situation. Hopefully you preordered and got the Handyman gear that inflicts 50% more damage to Handyman. Fire bird is great for jumping on/off hooks/sky-lines to burn and stun foes so you can take aim and undertow them to their deaths. Swap gear out on the fly and your needs change, even in the middle of battle.

I would strongly recommend getting the Winters Shield gear.
It makes the hand of the prophet mission very easy since it makes you invincible for about 7 seconds when jumping to and from a skyhook.
Gear pickups are random, so just restart a checkpoint to get a different gear if it isn't Winters Shield.
I only used Shock Jockey and Possession all the way through, except when fighting the Siren. Use Bucking Bronco. Fully upgrade them.
I mostly used the Carbine, machine gun and volley gun.
Just make sure you look around for supplies whenever you can and get all the infusions.
Took me 2 days. Good luck

There's really only 4 tough spots in the game to worry about. The 3 Lady Comstock ghost fights, and the final fight. I recommend playing it first on an easier difficulty to fully enjoy the game, then tackle this mode. Make sure to loot EVERYTHING but leave food for when you're low on health. If there's beer and salts around, and you need health, drink the alcohol to replenish your health, then drink the salts. Not too tough, but a good challenge. Good luck!

This is honestly true, when Lady Comstock's ghost comes out of the glass coffin you don't have to fight her. I hid in the tomb with the medkits on the right waiting for her to come round so that i could snipe her but she never did and the soldiers stopped coming after a few RPG's so i just thought sod it and I just ran back the way i came. The brother and sister are blocking the exit and then you start looking for the three tears. so yeah, unless it was a lucky glitch you don't even have to fight her!

Lol I still haven't bought anything from a Dollar Bill, and I'm on my 3rd playthrough. Even on 1999 mode there's plenty of stuff to scavenge. This was a great addition, and presented the perfect amount of challenge.

@90 Agreed, I thought it was going to be much, much harder. There are times when you have to change your guns a lot though

Best way is to Upgrade your possession vigor. helps you get extra cash from dollar machines (doesnt void the achievement) makes many of the staged fights

I just began my first play-through. I accidently opened the vending machine interface yet didn't buy anything. Can I still get the achievement or do I need to start over?
Also, what are all the parameters of this achievement? Things you can and cannot do.

@94. As long as you don't spend money at the dollar vending machine you'll be fine. You can still use other machines, like purchase upgrades for your guns or possesions, just don't spend money on health, ammo etc.

Once you get a couple of vigors this isnt too bad for the most part. Think I'll grind out some money and gear at Soldiers Fields so I don't get bad game rage later on!

I just finished this. It really was not as bad as I thought it would be. Lady Comstock was the worst part.

im just on chapter 12 now. So far nothing has been a real challenge. at the most I have died twice at a place just from being over ambitious. Stick to cover, pop out, pick a guy off, go back to cover and let your shield replenish. Or if you have the shotgun, wait for them to come to you. Draw them in somehow for an easy kill. Ive been sticking to this so far and its been a mixture of easy and fun yet challenging at the same time if you play smart.

chapter 26 now. Pretty basic until you fight 3 wave in Fink's (i think that is his name) place. The third wave is hard with a couple flying turrets that seem to ignore your cover as well as a patriot. It is also hard getting ammo for this part being that you just went through two rounds prior. Died a couple times. Definately challenging but no where near impossible.

Lady Comstock is hard unless you sit back and literally hit her one bullet at a time from range. Takes long but its the only way to beat her. Up close you will get bum rushed by her minions who once you kill she will raise from the dead again and again.

The Siren is much easier with the Gears Electric Punch (with season pass DLC) or Burning Halo to disintegrate any corpse she resurrects. If the corpse is gone she can't summon it again. Another VERY USEFUL Gear is Spectral Sidekick. It is one of those rare Gears that can only be found in a certain place - The Bank of the Founders. That means you have to fight her at least once to gain access to it. This gear saved me many times while fighting her.

As for this specific achievement, I never opened a Dollar Bill machine to look at its inventory, but I possessed every one I found and I still got the achievement at the end.

im flying through this. all i do is if i die, reload the checkpoint. there are very few parts where u will want to respawn and lose the money. most checkpoints are right before a fight anyway. i also use possession all the time. half the fights you wont even need 1 bullet. just possess and let them kill each other. the siren u just need the right spots to hide. in first battle i hide by the shotgun tear. very rare for anyone other then the siren to come up there. on the second fight, stay in the vault. on the 3rd fight, snipe her from the balcony right at the top of the stairs next to the vending machines. like i said, i think i actually paid for a respawn 4-5 times max.

I am currently in Comstocck house and have to say this game challenges you. Just be careful with your salts and cover. Reload checkpoints is a better alternative to dying. More money for upgrades. Lady Comstock was a walk in the park. Just place upgraded devil kiss bombs before your encounters (where she spawns) and youll be done in a sec(nd.

When going for this achievement, I highly recommend you upgrade the vigors such as charge, bucking bronco, undertow, and return to sender. They are really useful especially charge when you encounter the siren. Return to sender will also help you alot on the final battle of the game. For weapons, I highly suggest you upgrade the machine gun, carbine, and RPG. Boy the RPG helps a lot with taking down motorized patriots and handyman.

It really wasn't that difficult to do. You just have to keep a lot of money with you in case of death.

I completely agree with the above. (SPOILER WARNING)The only difficult part being the fight with Lady Comstock's ghost.
