|Complete the game on Hard difficulty without using a Vita-Chamber|
Some people think that this achievement is really hard, but the reality is that it's actually very easy. In order to obtain this achievement you must start a new file and go to the Pause Menu. Select "Options" and turn ON "Disable Vita-Chambers." If you do not do this and die you will HAVE to start the game all over again, even if you did have a previous save. Spawning in a chamber will corrupt the achievement for all saves.
When you first start out you need to run up to him and grab ADAM from him for the battle to start. When he comes down, he will start out as a fire element. Hit him with your Blizzard plasmid and shoot at him with your Steel bolts. Repeat this until he goes back on his restraining table.

I thought it'd be a good idea to go ahead and post this solution considering some people may have their achievement glitched. Follow this if you don't have the option to disable Vita-Chambers. via TRUEACHIEVEMENTS.COM
- Delete the DLC
- Cleare the harddisks cache (go to memory/hard drive/hit Y for options, the X, X, LB, RB, X, X)
- Rebooted the 360
- Use/Create an Xbox Live account that has not downloaded the DLC or the updates yet.
- Download the DLC
- Started game and downloaded title update
- Started new game (hard)
- Welcome screen for new tonics will pop, checked to ensure "Disable Vita Chambers" option was in effect (last on options menu)
- quit to the title screen, signed out and logged in with my normal Xbox live account
- Loaded save game (hard)
-Checked for "Disable

Easier then i thought it will be. The begining is the hardest part. After you got plenty of weapons en plasmids, it will be a lot easier. And well, just safe enough and dont die.

to get past the vita chamber glitch delete the update and the dlc, and clear
the cache. then, download the dlc with a different account (create a temporary
account if necessary and get a free month of gold out of it). after downloading
the update and dlc again on the different account, log back in to your account and the option will be there.

if you want to save time just play the game on easy and avoid dying which is very very easy to do, then when you taking the last needle thing full of adam out of atlas, pause the game when the needle is half empty, and just change the difficulty to hard then un-pause the game wait for a bit while the little sisters kill atlas and then the achievement will pop :), do that unless you want a very difficult challenge.

It should be noted that using the research camera is quite important on Hard mode. You need every advantage you can get. Also, deal with every Little Sister. ADAM is more important than ever if you're trying for this.

I played through the game on hard.. thought it was easy I wasn't even aware of the fact that I had to have the DLC to get the achievement till I was told by my friend. I wasn't using the vita chambers at all, but I didn't have the option to go turn them off if your not that lazy then you can just reload every time you die, It's not hard just a bit tedious. The achievement still poped for me at the end of the game when I downloaded it, and already halfway completed with the game.

What #7 said ACTUALLY DOES WORK. You don't have to play the game on HARD,
you just have to COMPLETE the game on hard. For everyone who said it
will/doesn't work, you're wrong. Look at this post and follow EVERYTHING it
tells you to do. Also, when changing the difficulty, hit the thumbstick to the
left ONCE (moving it to the right would void the achievement.) After that, hit
START NOT 'B' OR 'A' as this will also void your achievement. This also works
on getting the 'Seriously Good At This' achievement. Here it is:
Enjoy your 1100/1100 like me. ;)

For anyone having problems with Atlas at the end of the game on hard, I found the easiest way to defeat him was by using the Chemical Thrower equipped with Electric Gel. With the tonics that boost your invention capabilities, electric gel is easy to come by at the end. Just make sure you upgrade both features of the chemical thrower and bring the full 200 rounds into battle. The electric gel alone should take out about 3-1/2 bars of his life without leaving him much of a window for him to move or attack.

What was said in post #7 is 100% correct. You can go through the game on easy as long as you don't die take on Fontain. Go to options hit left once from easy to hard and press start to go back to game and it will count as beating the game on hard. Yeah i know cheap way to do it but it works.

It was hard at first. Once you get the grenade launcher it's much easier to take down Big Daddies. the part that gave me the most trouble was the first Rosie you fight in Fontaine Fisheries.

Just to say that it still works, i have just done this on my sons account as he never had it.
Start the game on easy and straight away disable the Vita chambers.
Run through the game and get the end, stab him 3 times with the Adam then when he goes back, stab him again and as soon as you stab him press "start", switch the difficulty to "hard" and press start again to restart the game, DO NOT PRESS "B"
Kill him and during the cutscene the achievement popped up.

As people have said it sounds horribly hard but is in fact pretty damn easy. The hardest part is probably the first big daddy you go up against, but from then on grenades work wonders. Oh and be sure to save little sisters, the hypnotize big daddy plasmid is invaluable when going up against other big daddys. Also, research everything up as fast as possible.

Tuesday, June 07, 2011 @ 08:49:14 PM
Oh and obviously it's faster to go through as fast as possible but I explored every nook and cranny, struggled none, got every little sister and I'm pretty sure all diaries though I got that cheev on a previous play through. Yes, I have played the game multile times, but that was 3 years ago at least, I mean I love Bioshock so much I have the great chain wrist tats in real life but my memory sucks, save often and you'll be fine. Sounds so much scarier to attempt that it is in reality.

funny glitch you can do with Fontaine on any difficulty, at his second stage when he's icy and the security bots come, ignore him and hack the bots, they will shoot at him in the air (like they do with anyone) but the thing with Fontaine is that the only attack he can hurt them with is thegiant blot of blackish electricity he shoots at his 3rd stage (and even then he doesnt use it alot and it takes about 4 hits to kill one of the bots), but his ice attack and his charging attack cant hit the bots so he stops moving and glitches out a bit like someone with lag or something. from there just sit there and shoot him until he dies. but do not use anything that sprays or explodes as to aviod destroying the security bots. Just thought I'd offer insight to make one of life's easiest final bosses e

I have fun doing this now. After Neptune's Bounty, the game's so much easier. Tip for the first two Big Daddies (if you want to go at this legit): Save money and use the Health Station to heal, the kits are just in case. The first Big Daddy I just kept circling, shot a few bullets, and ran for my life to the station. Get used to hard mode and you don't even have to try anymore (unless this is the only shooter you've ever played). If you collect enough stuff and want that 100 invents achievement, too, you can pretty much max out the ammo of every gun in your arsenal just before Fontaine's fight. Piece of cake when you shock him to death with the Chemical Thrower.

for anyone having trouble with the big daddies there is a easy way to kill them and it only takes up a small bit of eve! You need the "Security bullseye" plasmid which you get in Neptunes bounty after you get the research camera. Now with the plasmid you want to find something you can hack and trigger a alarm by putting the stream into the alarm square. With the alarm on the bots will come so use the "Security bullseye" on the big daddy and the bots will attack and most likely kill it.

Go to fontaine. Just before you drain the last adam pause the game, go into options, down to difficulty, move thumbstick left once (to change it to hard) then press start (if you cycle through the difficulty or press A or B to exit the menu, the achievement wont work). Watch the little sisters attack fontaine and when she gives you the key, the achievement will pop up.

6. pressed left ONCE to change difficulty to hard and then pressed START

For anyone who doesn't know why the "Turn off Vita-Chambers" option is not in there settings menu you must download the free dlc for it to be available:
- Go to Xbox 360 Marketplace
- Search for "Bioshock"
- Select the original Bioshock game and a list of downloads will appear
- There is only one DLC that is game content and it has the word "Plasmids" in its name (Cant remember full name sorry! :P)
If you have a game saved before you fight Atlas you can load it turn vita chambers off, kill him and still get the achievement.
When I did this I had never died and used the Vita Chambers so Im not sure if it will work if you have used the Vita Chambers previously but its worth a try.
Also I can confirm post #7 still works!

If the option to disable the "Vita-Chambers" is missing and you are trying to get the "Brass Balls" achievement, create a Silver account, delete the required DLC off of your 360, redownload the DLC, and then play with the user account you wish with the option now being available.

Going for this final achievement now - great tip from #88, the full name of the add-on he meant is Ryan Industries Plasmids and Gene Tonics. You can just download this for free instead of uninstalling and creating a new username and reinstalling, and the option to turn off the Vita-Chambers will be there :)

I've defeated Atlas 4 times now, doing exactly as said above and no achievements have popped.
Does this have to have perfect timing first time or it becomes void? The annoying thing is that I did this and hard to about half way though until I saw this thread, then changed to easy as I thought it would be quicker. :(
I missed Research phD and Avid inventer too. (As well as the two related to doing it on the hardest setting.)

I know this is old news but I'm breezing through the game on hard without vita chambers and completing the rest of the game as well. Saves are key, I've already capped my limit and plan to use a ton more. And I never really had to conserve ammo, always had plenty. Photos are key as well, making it easier to take down the enemies. So for folks like me who have yet to complete this game by 2012, no worries. It'll be a fun and easy ride.

I'm having a problem with this one still. I tried the glitch where you switch the difficulty to get the achievement for beating it on hard. Which worked and allowed me to get it.
However going back through the game again without using Vita Chambers and using the glitch again does not work. I do have the option to switch the chambers on and off in the menu. I have already tried:
- Removing and re-downloading the add-on.
- Emptying the cache.
- Retrying the steps exactly as presented in post #20. (Both turning the chambers on and off)

Hello guys so i noticed that some of you might havent been able to get this achievements even after playing a whole playthrough on hard mode , vita off , just do the following:1-Delete bioshock game saves and dlc from the hard drive...
2-Clear system Cache
3-Start the game , and download the update,
4-Play the game on easy mode ..Dont die at all not even once and then restarting a game save.. just keep playing without dying
5-Just before going to the elevator of fontaine final boss... Download the dlc
6-you will see that the option for Vita Chambers is On , turn it Off
7-Go to fontaine , kick his butt and hit the last needle on him , when the needle comes to its half , Push start
8-Go to options , change the difficulty from easy to hard by pushing left (Dont Push the A button) then

I noticed no one was replying to those who actually played the entire game on Hard difficulty and having the horrible luck like myself of not being able to unlock this. Some of you may have beat the game on Hard without ever using a Vita-Chamber and still didn't unlock the achievement. Even though disabling vita-chambers shouldn't prevent you from netting the achievement after not ever using a vita-chamber to begin with...unfortunately this option must be checked off in options to actually get it. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone but I was not about to play all over again. Here's what I did to unlock the achievement. First, deleted the DLC. Reinstalled DLC. Loaded game on last save and immediately checked option to disable vita-chambers. Resumed game and beat the final boss agai

It looks like at the moment the DLC is not available for some countries. I live in Russia and our XBOX marketplace does not have the DLC in stock. Here is the comprehensive solution from reading all comments. I played through the game and Brass Balls was the only one that did not pop for me. Found out the option to "Disable Vita Chambers" disappeared somehow. I was not about to go play through the game again... here are the steps
1. Do you what you have to do to have the option for Vita Chambers (if its missing).
2. When you stab Fontaine for the last time hit pause halfway through the needle depleting.
3. USE THE LEFT THUMBSTICK ONLY --> Change difficulty to Hard by moving it left, not right.
4. After difficulty is set to hard, press Start. Not A or B. Press start only.
5. All ending achievements pop after Fontaine dies and fades to the next scene with the little sisters walking up to you.

I just don't see how this is possible...
The first Big Daddy proved to be extremely difficult. I finally got it after about 45 minutes of dieing over and over.
Second Big Daddy is just... impossible. I've now been trying to beat him for about an hour and a half or so. I just can't see any way to do it. It's not about ammo, or ammo type. It's just the ridiculous amount of damage he does, no grace period when your health gets low like in Bioshock 2 (meaning you can be killed when you had half a health bar left), and the accuracy.
Just seems like no ammount of hiding behind stuff and being all tactical and whatnot can get you through this fight.

Hello fellow BioShock players. I started the game on hard and then switched to easy at some point when I realized that there was a glitch. I then proceeded to fight my way to Fontaine and do the trick where you kill him on easy then switch it to hard as you plunge in the last syringe. I have tried about 5 times now with no achievement popping luck.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to why the achievement will not pop for me. Is it because I started on hard and switch to easy then back to hard? Also, I did die along the way but don't see why that matters when you just load up a save that was before your death since the vita chambers are off? Any input would be greatly appreciated as I had already 1000'd this game back in 2007 and played through numerous times and would hop

@131 I also had the most trouble with the second big daddy (its the first one at Fontaine Fisheries in Neptune's Bounty if im not mistaken) Don't give up. Just keep trying different weapon combinations and hack the two nearby turrets. U could also ignore him until you get the grenade launcher from peach wilkins before seeking out the camera.

@135 I have not unlocked this achievement yet but i have read this entire thread and there are several people having the same problem as you, which worries me as i am one of the few attempting this legitimately. One thing you did not mention checking is whether or not u still have the option to turn the vita chambers off. If you deleted the cache memory, maybe to fix a problem with another game, then this also deletes the vita chamber option. Some people are also saying that this option disappears for them at random. The instructions for doing the "#7 glitch" are also very tedious and its easy to miss a step so re-check that. If all this fails then delete your cache memory and delete the dlc then re-download it and load your latest save and MAKE SURE VITA IS OFF. Then try again. confirmed

I've just completed this tonight. When I downloaded the DLC my vita chamber option was there, so looks like I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't get glitched.
I played this legitimately, and my advice for anyone trying this for real (ie not using the cheat that has been outlined so numerously above) is this:
*Hack everything you can. Turrets and Cameras are you friends
*Buy the Hypnotise Big Daddy asap. Once you have rescued the little sisters on each level let the Big Daddy's do your work for you
*Buy every Health upgrade and Eve upgrade you can. The only plasmids I had at the end of the game were maxxed fire and electricity, telekinesis, hypnotise big daddy and the security camera one (makes unhacked cameras attack bad guys instead of you - this was a pickup not a purchase)
Saturday, March 23, 2013 @ 08:43:48 AM
*For Big Daddys - the rocket launcher is your friend. Prior to getting the rocket launcher electricity is your friend. You can return to previous levels when in the travel sphere by using the cross pad instead of the stick, so you can return later in the game to gather little sisters you've left behind
It's not so hard if you've beaten the game once and have an idea of how the combat system works, and how to best fight the various mobs. If you die, you simply get returned to the main menu so its a simple game reload. Just ensure to save often. If you're having trouble with the final fight, there are lots of great hints on the internet. He is weak to certain attacks in certain stages so know what to hit him with when.
Best of Luck!

I can confirm this works on April 11th 2013. I got him into the last ADAM drain point on easy then I switched to hard mode by going to the difficulty select and hitting left twice (to go from easy to survivor and then survivor to hard mode) then after that I hit start as opposed to A or B as I heard this would affect the achievement but I can't tell you for sure if it does. I was too slow though and Fontaine jumped out of the chair so I had to kill once again and then drain him for the 4th time. Then I got the achievement.

Everyone be happy that 360 owners didnt get the ''Survivor'' achivements that were on PS3. That was VERY HARD. It made hard look like easy. On Hard you really dont need to do a glitch. I recomend doing 2 playthroughs. The first on easy or normal, then a Hard playthrough for a cleanup playthrough.
Not that hard, thank goodness I dont have to worry about Survivor achievements of beat the game on survivor, then beat the game on survivor without using a chamber. Just contiunally save and you should be fine, turn OFF the Vita chamber option at the beggining of the game and you should be fine.

I don't get why everyone is complaining about how difficult this is? I won't lie, the game is difficult on hard, that's why it's the highest difficulty lol.. but the game allows you to save at any time.. unless you're in combat.. so having a vita-chamber revive you is pointless if you save often. If anyone's having trouble finding the Vita Chamber disable option, delete the dlc and update. Load up the game and download the update first, quit game, download the dlc and start the game up again. You'll know this worked if the Ryan Industries notification pops up after the cut-scene at the beginning of the game.
You don't need another account to do this as it worked for me just now.

I just recently got this achievement . My only problem was not realizing that I had to go to the Xbox Live Marketplace for the Bioshock game & actually download the DLC for new plasmids in order to get Brass Balls . I assumed the update I received when I started the game did that . It worked for me , turned off Vita Chambers , played through on Hard , saved often , no problem . Didn't need to glitch . Hard really isn't that " hard " . Got rest of the other achievements on " easy " later . Audio Logs has a minor glitch with a log recovered in Farmers Market latered listed in Arcadia , which can be confusing if you're trying to figure out which ones are missing .

#170 thanks for telling it still works :D I just finished the game yesterday for the first time, I played it on hard mode the whole time and I only missed 2 achievements, this one and historian but I don't have the time to actually get this without cheating >

I can confirm the difficulty glitch still works. Went all the way through on easy with vita chambers set to off and switched it to hard just before the final needle. Achievement popped for me!

I will be attemping this soon, but I do have some questions...
1. Do you have to delete save files/clear your cache for it to work?
2. Does it have to be done in one sitting(E.g. You can't save then switch off?)
3. Does it have to be done on the original version, I have the X360 Classics version
4. If you die and reload your last save, does it void the cheevo?

1. Deleting your saves and clearing your cache is always a good idea.
2. No not one sitting (unless you are Hardcore!) just remember to save every once in a while.
3. Does not matter what version you have.
4. I have played through the whole campaign on "Easy" then followed the glitch above. Plus if you die on any difficulty, with the "Disable Vita Chambers - ON" it will NOT void the Achievement.
I hope this answers all of your questions. Any problems give me a message - VirtualShakey
