|Find every audio diary.|
There are 122 Audio Diaries in the game. You must collect them all during one save. If you save before going up the elevator to fight the final boss, you can return to almost any location in the game. In the thread linked below, Diaries marked with an asterisk (*) are ones that must be collected while you are in the area because you can not return to it later.
Check this thread for locations and maps.

My game glitches on this one, after picking up the "First Encounter" diary, it doesn't appear in my collection, and I found all of them, still no achievement. Do I need some kind of live update?

I give up! I am a achievement hunter but this one just take to much time!

No way, that would be way too hard. You can save as many times as you want and still get all the diaries (as long as you are playing on the same saved game). I actually didn't find this achievement all that difficult, especially if you go to http://www.gamefaqs.com/xbox360/931329-bioshock/faqs/49868 and pay special attention to the two diaries you can't access after leaving the first area heading to Medical Pavilion.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the roadmap on the top of the page that lists each level and how many diaries are in each level is not completely correct. Fort Frolic has 15 diaries (not 14) and there are 16 diaries in Arcadia before Farmer's Market and a single diary (Arcadia's 17th diary) during your return to Arcadia. No one seemed to address this so I just thought I would point it out in case anyone else was confused.

What about the three audio diaries in Steinman's section of the Medical Pavilion? I forgot to pick them up and then the tunnel flooded on my way out. Does anyone know if I have to restart to get back in there or will I regain access by the end of the game?

During gameplay, push the Back button, then press LB or RB to get to messages, choose the level you want to check and it will show a list of the audio diaries you've collected for that level.

After I beat it with Big Brass Balls setting, I went back with the Big Daddy armor to the locations that I missed some. The armor helped becuase you can walk around freely. Also, at #1 JonR888, and anyone else, some diaries (bout two of em) are listed in one level of the game, even if you found it somewhere else. First Encounter I believe you find in the Farmers Market but it counts under Fontaine Fisheries. I think one other does the same thing..gets confusing.

Baah.. Should have read this thread earlier. I have just binned an hour's play because of that bloody First Encounter. I remembered that I picked it up and when I checked what I had, I could not see it in the list. So I went back but the diary was not there. Then I loaded an earlier save without saving my progress thinking that I had some glitch.. Poor working people can not just lose an hour's play..
Beware 2K Games!!

GAH! I missed one in the VERY first area... one of the two you can't go back and get. This is the only achievement NOT tied to difficulty that I won't be getting on my first play through. :(

I'm having trouble with the diary, "The Great Chain". It's the one that's supposed to appear after you come back to Arcadia from the Farmer's Market. The description I have says that when you come out of the bathysphere from Farmer's Market it's on the right side, on a bench. Well, there's a bench there, but no diary. I've loaded the game a few times and it hasn't appeared. The only thing I can think it could be is that it means the bathysphere to the next section, after Arcadia. Can anyone confirm this, please?

I'm only half way though the game and I can already tell this achievement is going to be a b****h. I've wasted 3 hours looking for two of the audio diaries. They seem to be the two everyone is getting stuck on as they're not where they're meant to be.
If I don't get this when I'm done.... -_-

Damn I just spent a half an hour trying to locate that damn first encounter tape. What ungodly reason did they have for throwing it in a different menu at the last minute? And by the sound of it I'm probably gonna be screwed outta this one since i did what the guide told me to do and made a bunch of saves, we'll see.

Damn this achievement. It has haunted me since I had this game on ps3 three years ago. Oh well i had to do another play thru for the other 4 achievements anyway. To everyone the miss able ones are
Welcome to rapture. There are two in the level use a guide. You cannot return to this level. One is on a table next to some splicers that are in the water. Just upstairs the other is in a bathroom.
Hephaestus. The control room. There are 3 miss able ones. Two are hard to miss they are on a table underneath the pictures. The third is by a vita chamber. That's it the others can be gotten anytime. As long as u save before the Fontaine fight.

I ended up getting this achievement while i was trying to get the brass balls achievement. I had got to the end to take the elevator for the boss fight and decided might as well get this achievement. bunch of people said dont go back cause it will be worse to find them on this difficulty and actually it was just fine cause once you get the parts for the big daddy outfit the enemys leave you alone anyhow...only if you provoke them.
