Introduction:
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War is a relatively easy and straightforward 900. Pay attention to the guide and you'll get the last 100, involving the two secret achievements, with some time and patience. The Book of Engineering being the main focus as a glitch can occur that will prevent you from obtaining it.

The Game and Tips:
Gameplay revolves around you controlling various squad types, capturing bases for the English or French, cutting down their officers/generals, and generally being a badass. This section is here to explain some basic game mechanics and provide some tips.

-Squads and Units
There are 17 types of squads in Bladestorm; these squads are further broken down into units. (Example: A horse squad can have either swords, javelins, lances, or halberds) Note: You cannot mix squads or unit types. Your default unit is always sword and you can't change it. Now each squad type has various strength and weaknesses against other squad types. By pressing whenever you're on the battlefield, you can view what your current squad is strong and weak against; another way is to see if your enemy is glowing. Green means your current squad type is effective against the enemy, red means you're weak. Always pay attention to this, it can literally mean life or death on the battlefield.

-Books and Skills
Books are what allow you to command the various types of squads and acquiring them make up roughly 95% of the achievements in this game. Furthermore, books are broken down into tomes which allow you to upgrade a units action skills and equip them with better weapons. Skills are broken down into two categories: Support Skills, which are passive and affect the entire squad type, and Action Skills, which apply to a specific unit type within a squad. Research should be your #1 priority when it comes to skills since it directly affects the number of skill points you receive when you level up a squad, Leadership next, then everything else. All of this can be managed in the Tavern under the Status tab.

-Command and Conquer
Your life on the battlefield will be spent doing two things: traveling to a base, and then capturing it. It's not as bad as it sounds since you'll be doing a lot of slaughtering along the way. Capturing a base consists of simply killing the base commander. There are two ways to draw out the base commander: reducing the base points down to 0, or having your allies enter the base. Pressing will zoom in the mini-map and allow you to see the base points. To reduce base points, you need to kill the enemy squads that have a shield icon. Note: If there aren't enough base squads to kill, try moving away from the base. This will spawn more base squads. Generally speaking, reducing the base points to 0 is faster since you can't control your allies. Once you capture a base, make sure you check emblem in the center as it will have money and treasure for you to collect.

-General Advice

  • Killing the squad leader, the soldier with the icon above his/her head, will cause the rest of the squad to disperse.
  • Horses level up the fastest, allow you to get to your destination faster, and can devastate the battlefield. Use them!
  • Don't be afraid to buy and use pennons, especially the speed increasing type.
  • Standing on an ally emblem will heal you. So if you're low on health, head to an ally base.
  • Have I mentioned how awesome horses are? You may even forget that they're other units out there.
  • Make the most of each day, plan out your route to capture the most bases. More captured bases means more money and items.
  • You gain an experience bonus after every 50 combo kills, so try to lure enemy squads together.
  • Seriously....horses.

Conclusion:
Overall, this game is more about time, and some luck, than difficulty. Make sure you follow the guide for Book of Engineering achievement so don't hit the glitch. The thread can be found here. Oh and....England rules!

After the Storyline battle of Crecy, Edward the Black Prince will realize the usefulness of the Mercenaries and promote you to 2 Star Fame. Then go do any Campaign, Story or not, and these books will now be obtainable thru capturing bases. One of the group of 2 Star Fame books.
Book of Camels50
Occasionally there are Books in the chests dropped during battle.

After doing a later France Storyline Campaign (Not sure which ATM) The Nobles will notice the Mercenaries accolades and you will be able to reach Rank 3 Fame Stars. Should become a possible drop after reaching three stars from Captured bases in Campaigns. This is the only Book droped from a Red Chest during your 3 star famedom.

After Reaching 4 Star fame from Storyline Campaign at Ile De France (you can be either on French or English side, the English *Which I did* Have to defend a base for 3 days straight*) John Fastoff *again if you did the English side* will commend you on your hard work and recommend to the Prince that he acknowledge your efforts and you will be promoted to 4th Star Fame. This book will become a possible drop from Bases that your capture during a Campaign. Apparently lower percentage drop rates than the other book groups. 1 of the 4 Star fame Group books. Personally, I got the Magic book off of Duke De glaisen (gotta recheck the spelling on that) when I KO'ed him during a Random Campaign after I got 4 Star Fame, and Chariot and Elephant I just got out of random bases during my 4 Star fame missions.
Cleared Story150
After viewing the ending, be sure to save your play data. (1)

Pretty straightforward, just keep completing Storyline Campaigns. Eventually the Leader of either the French or English Armys will promote you to command their Army, you will fight one last big fight, view a cutscene then save and get the achievement.

Secret Achievements

Book of Explosives50
Have acquired a book describing how to use firearms (2)

Once you have finished the storyline and started the game with your save, you will see two people talking about strategies in the gossip of the bar.The Explosive book quest line has 4 Missions, 3 Fetch Missions, and a Demo Mission. They are campaigns with side missions from Christine de Pizan. Just do a few French missions after you beat the game and she should pop up.
Book of Engineering50
Have acquired a book describing a special style of fighting. (3)

After you beat the story line quests, you will see the two men talking about strategy when you check gossip. To get the Engineering Tome, you need to 100% research Sword/Horse/Bow so that an Avatar of war will show up and give you the Silver weapons for that squad. You also need to have 70% learned on ALL other Books as well. Once you have 100% on the mentioned 3 and 70% on all the others (Firearms included) and the Avatar will reappear and give you this tome. *Note the Avatar shows up in the Tavern*
