Introduction:
Welcome to the Road Map to 1000 for Blue Dragon. This game is a fairly easy 1000, but it's very time-consuming. All but two or three achievements are missable (most involve perfecting mini-games or maxing out character levels, which isn't mandatory), which adds to the time it takes, but it's still fairly easy, as it will only take one playthrough to get the full 1000.

This game does have a glitch, but not directly out of the box. If you download the New Year's DLC from Xbox LIVE, you will be unable to get the three Mechat Shooting Stage (#)- Perfect achievements.

Step 1: Preparing
In Blue Dragon, there are several achievements that, if missed the first time, will be unobtainable in your current playthrough. These achievements are either mini-game/button mashing events or events that require you to complete a collection of something.

The story event achievements are "Closed Flying Fortress Door", "Wagon Escort: Perfect", "Pulled in the Flying Fortress", "Mechat Shooting Stage 1: Perfect", "Rescued Kluke", "Got to Nene Before the Bomb Went Off", "Moon Laser: Perfect", "Saved Kluke from Choking", "Escaped from Squashtrich", "Summoned Shu's Shadow", "Mechat Shooting Stage 2: Perfect", and "Mechat Shooting Stage 3: Perfect". To prepare for these, all you really need to do is read the guide below to make sure you know where the events are, and be sure to save a lot in different slots(in case that you fail one of the events, so that you can try again).

The collection achievements are: "Complete Item Record" and "Complete Monster Record". For these, there are some monsters or items that you will only get one chance to obtain. To prepare for these, I suggest you print or write down the following guides:

One Chance Monsters: When & Where (List)
Complete Item List

Once you get those guides, you're ready to start the game with confidence!

***NOTE: The Item guide says one of the items is named Super Metal Bangle. In the English Version, the item is actually names Super Metal Bracelet.***

Step 2: Playing the Game
Now, simply play the game until you get to "The Point of No Return", which is the point where you can no longer leave the final area. This point is after you beat Mecha General Szabo and enter the Cauldron Chamber. Once there, activate the Warp Device (so you can easily get back), and wrap up with any achievements you may have missed.

Step 3: Wrap-Up
Now, after teleporting from the Cauldron Chamber, make sure you have ALL of the achievements done. If you have any questions on the achievements, check this guide*. That guide includes all the barrier, warp device, weapon bracelet, dragon bracelet, etc. locations, too, in case you're looking for those. Make sure to finish the game after getting all the achievements, too!

*=This is not my thread, and I'm not trying to take credit for it. Thank you to Webb for creating this thread.

Conclusion:
After a long and tedious 75+ hours, you'll finally have all 1000 for Blue Dragon. Congratulations!

There are 43 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Complete a Back Attack.

Simply attack a creature from behind to unlock this achievement. Best way is to level up then return to an earlier plot of land, maybe either side of the Wilderness Camp and they should flee in sight, you then have 4 or 5 seconds to run and attack them. Could also use "Repel Aura" of the Monk class.

  • Complete 100 Back Attacks.

See "Complete a Back Attack" for tips on where to go. Simply repeat that 100 times.

  • Complete a Multi-Monster Encounter.

Two or more monsters in an encounter circle will trigger a multi monster encounter. Complete one of these for an easy 5 points.

  • Win a Multi-Monster Encounter against at least 10 enemies.

Win a Multi-Monster Encounter against at least 10 enemies.

You need to get at least 10 enemies in your encounter circle, battle them all and win.

Where to do it: Southern corner of the Giant Snow Fields (top left corner of your map)
When to do it: Disc 3

There you will find robot spawning robots by a machine going round a crater and they don't flee either. Just run round till you have a group round you there. Get attacked? Simply flee and you get a few seconds of free time when you leave the battle screen to get in a good position. You can get in excess of 14 in a circle so its quite easily possible to do here. Keep track of your most in your Battle Record.

  • Make Monster Fights happen 100 times.

A monster fight happens when two species not only dislike you but dislike each other. You will notice one appear when you use the encounter circle and get two monsters in range. If their names appear in yellow, you have a monster fight on your hands where it is a big free for all. The achievement stipulates that you must only make these fights happen, not actually win them. Best way to do it is near Jibral, get a Chief Rolling Ripper (Beetle like) and a Cockatrice (emu like) in one battle circle and then attack and then flee. Rinse and repeat. 100 will take you less than an hour. Can also get the "50 Flees" achievement at the same time. You can keep track of how many you have done in your battle record.

  • Find and defeat the rare monster King Poo.

Find and defeat the rare monster King Poo.

What you need: Need to be on disc 3, and to have defeated both Jumbo Poo and Corrosive Poo in the same region before he appears.
Location: Ancient Ruin Caverns near Talta (where you first landed after the original Land Shark scene.)
Recommended Minimum Level: 80 with really high shadows. 99's in more than 1 recommended.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Water. Plenty of waterus and Water sword do the trick. The double cast is great for casting prerevive and then attacking. Use - Double Cast, Resurrection, Endure, Prerevive.

  • Find and defeat the rare monster Golden Poo Snake.

Find and defeat the rare monster Golden Poo Snake.

What you need: Need to be on disc 3, have a mechat, Shoes of Hermes (black device needed for barrier in Ancient Factory (ground floor) and Poo Bracelet (blue barrier chest in Jibral castle, gate)
Location: "Southern Deserted Island". Need a Mechat. Far south of the map.
Recommended Minimum Level: Any so long as you have Poo Bracelet and Shoes of Hermes.

    Addon from Atomic Peenut:

but if you go to castle jibral at the main gates there should be a blue chest which you need the bule device from
this gives you the poo bracelet

then in the mechat fly all the way down to the southern deserted island ( as far south as you can go )
    and there it is
the poo bracelet means you can kill it almost instantly

  • Find and defeat the rare monster Gold Mecha Robo.

Find and defeat the rare monster Gold Mecha Robo.

What you need: Loads and loads of strength, patience and magic skills,
Location: Ancient Factory - Towards the far side of the first room, near the Black Barrier.
Recommended Minimum Level: 85 minimum with really really high leveled shadows.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Strengths - Strong and good defense. Weaknesses - None. He has 18,000 health points.

I personally set all my characters to level 99 Sword Attack front row and 99 Black Magic back row. I equipped them with an array of accessories to up their stats, but maily equipped them with Skill +8, Endure, Resurrection, White & Black Magic Level 8, Double Cast and if they have a high Support level (99), use Magic Essence as well.

I got it together with another robot using the encounter circle and used that to build my party ready for it. I used Quickus on the middle of the party fully boosted, I used prerevive on everyone, and used a fully powered Regenera. Then I destroyed the party to move on to the Gold guy.

Once there, I used plenty of Waterus doubled (2 x 1,000 ish), water sword (2,500 ish) all the way through, healing inbetween when necessary. I personally completed it without losing even one character once, so, it's not tough once you are leveled up.

  • Clear Mechat Shooting with no damage.

After boarding the mothership after the previous event. You will have to turn off 6 engines. As you turn off 5 a cutscene will be triggered and you and Zola will split up. Go through the portal and then before you board the mechat ship, save and then jump on. Remember, don't choose easy mode and watch the tutorial so you know what you're doing. Shoot the missiles out the sky with the guns (don't overheat them) and them lock on with the missiles to take down Nene. He starts at the front until he takes enough damage then goes to the back and sides until he takes enough damage and then finally he appears in front.

    Time in: 12-14 hours approx
    Note: Save point just before

  • While escorting the wagon, make sure that it takes no damage.

After you leave Talta Village on the way to find the villagers, you pass through the mountain pass and come in to the open. There will be a save point, so save and run in to the open and a cut scene will be triggered. The creatures that pop up are NOT random, they come in set places and there are 7 encounters in all. Learn where they spawn to make the task easier. Murbay did a summary of who comes what and where. Take a look below.

    Start

    Before 2nd Corner
Fat Rat -Left Front of Wagon

    After 2nd Corner
Fat Rat - Right Middle of Wagon

    Before 1st Chest

Steel Tiger - Right Middle of Wagon

In first Boulder area (as you remove last boulder)

  • Max out the rank for one Dragon class. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

    Dragon: Max One Class
Max out the rank for one Dragon class. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

First things first. Heed the warning above regarding the heart enhancement. DON'T TEMPT FATE!! If I was you, I wouldn't use them between 97-98 either, just incase. You don't want to ruin it so close to the end!

Anyway, on to business. There are various strategies. First recommendation is to get someone in your party up to Level 50 in the Barrier Class so that you can use Field Barrier 3 at it's full capabilities. It takes 5 MP to activate it and 1 MP for every enemy it defeats. It basically adds a force field round your character in the field stages. Think of a hamster in a ball and its very reminiscent. It only gathers SP from enemies and not experience and gold. Thats A LOT of SP gained before you have to restock your magic. Equip a MP regen and you should be able to walk around till you level up.

You can also leave the controller next to the spawn places I've named below and you can level up without much effort on your behalf.

*Warning - Enemies you haven't faced or stronger enemies break the shield*

    Useful Items
Black Belt - Location: Chest in the Ancient Ruins Forest
Black Belt - Location: Chest in the Mural Village behind a red barrier
Black Belt - Nothing Man in Jibral - 1200 nothings
Black Belt - Can be stole from - King Poo Snake and Yeet Yeet (only in first swipe remember).
Eye Patch - Location: Swap Autograph Manuscript found in the desert region for it when you speak to the traveler on Disc 3 ast the Lal Mountain Camp.

Potential 5 there, one for each member of the party. They double the SP you receive from monsters.

    Where to use it:

    - Well, there is the Southern part of the Giant Snow Fields with the spawning robots.
    - Respawning dead pelicans near Kelaso Village.
    - Laser Field, north of where you start near a chest in an alcove with respawning Flying Needle Moles.
    - Underground River where you fight the Moody Dragon, the respawning Kelolon.
    - Golden Poo Island - Southern Deserted Island.
    - Poo Island - South Western Island.

Using Heart Enhancements and when to use them.

For each shadow class throughout the game you can use them to level up your ranks by a level at a time. They can be picked up throughout the game or they can be....

Spoiler! - Swapped for medals with the great Toripo
Swapped for medals with the great Toripo

When to use them - After a certain level, the SP needed to level up remains the same for every level (100 SP). This is about level 60 so wait till then before you level up and make your use of them as efficient as possible.

Use on who? - Well, spread them around your characters or build up the lowest characters as to increase achievement efficiency.

** Achievement doesn't unlock if you use an enhancement between levels 98 and 99 so REMEMBER or pay dearly!!!**

  • Max out the rank for one Minotaur class. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

See "Dragon: Max One Class" for details on leveling, tactics and general help.

  • Max out the rank for one Phoenix class. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

  • Max out the rank for all Dragon classes. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

Max out the rank for all Dragon classes. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

Simply like the other achievement for one Shadow Level BUT this time, it is EVERY Shadow skill level for EVERY character. Long and arduous task. But settle in a respawning area and you can leave the controller for prolonged periods if you must.

See "Dragon: Max One Class" for details on leveling, tactics and general help.

  • Max out the rank for all Minotaur classes. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

    Mystery Part Trois
Location: ""Western Deserted Island". Need Mechat. Southwest corner of the map.

  • Find and obtain the rare Dragon Bracelet.

Once you obtain all five Dragon Fang items, talk to Elder Baum in Kelaso Village. He will take the fangs from you and craft the Dragon Bracelet automatically, the achievement will unlock after your conversation with him.

  • Activate all of the Warp Devices.

Warp devices can be activated by a warp key and are located at the major places in the game. Activate all these for an achievement. Chances are you will get most of these while playing through the story, but as soon as you can go to that place, they can be activated.

See this thread HERE for all the locations of them

  • Remove all barriers in the game.

There are jelly like barriers throughout the game. Five different colours. Blue, Red, Green, White and Black. As you go through the story, Shu and friends will pick up devices that can disable these barriers.

You can unlock the following barrier devices at the following places...

Blue - After visiting the robot town of Baroy.
Red - Defeating the damaged Defense Mecha robot - Ancient Factory.
Green - Pachess town after disabling the green barrier around the town.
White - Defeating the Iron Giant in Noluta.
Black - Sea Cube after boss fight with Azure Abyssal Dragon.

Check out this thread HERE for a list of where the barriers are. It comes from a Japanese gaming site, thanks to Jinx for posting.

NOTE - Not sure which barrier you are missing? Speak to the Fortune Teller in the Lal Mountains Sheep Tribe Camp for her to narrow it down to colours you are missing. Great help!

Secret achievements

  • You closed the Flying Fortress door without fighting the mecha robos.

Really early in to the game this one. Just after you defeat the land shark and escape from the underground ruins, you are beemed on to a ship. This is a rapid button pressing event, so get ready to bash A after running towards the door after the 5 or so robots appear.

    Time in: Approx 20 mins
    Note: Save point just before

  • You helped pull in the Flying Fortress without angering the Gorgo giants.

Not long after the previously mentioned achievement. After you have looked round Jibral and taken a rest. You will be awoken at night to go battle the Tsunami. To trigger this event, make it to the roof of the castle and it will appear. This is another random pressing event, this time, not only A but other buttons as well. Hammer the correct button with out making the Gordo's wave their arms in anger.

    Time in: 10-12 hours
Note: Save point just outside castle

  • You rescued Kluke without falling.

Kluke will get kidnapped by Nene, you chase them to the cavern but can't make it across. You go to Pachess town and get stuck. After you escape from the green shield that encapsulates Pachess town in the icelands. You will cross the chasm with some help from a friend. Head Northwest until you see a crater, you will notice it because it goes from the white snow to the brown dirt. SAVE HERE. As you run towards the crater (avoiding the robots that surround it if you must). This will trigger a cutscene. Just as Kluke is thrown and you pan to Shu running towards the camera. A time pressed achievement will begin, you will need to hit a button when you are prompted on screen. It asked me to press  on two separate occasions. I only did it once, so don't know whether it will remain the same.

  • You arrived at Nene's location before the time bomb went off.

Straight after the previous achievement, you will be thrown in to a time based achievement. You have an hour to climb to the top of Nene's fortress. Thats 5 levels, but don't get complacent. There are numerous boss fights at the end of 4 of the levels which eat up time on the clock. The first two major boss fights on levels 1 and 2 take up over 10 minutes easily. On level 3 you will come across the "Shoot the Moons" achievement as seen below (takes off no time). Level 4 and 5 have minor boss battles. Take up approximately 7 minutes of time. Conveniently, there is a save point and a energising point at the beginning of every level. So use separate saves so you can always go back if you fail it.

PS - Don't forget beating one of each bad guy and getting all the chests for to add to your log book.
PPS - Battles take 30 seconds off your time.
PPS - Fighting more than one bad guy at one time will still only take off 30 seconds. So use that circle guys

**times are only an estimate so beware!!**

  • You saved Kluke from being choked by Nene's collar.

Another button bashing event but this time you must hold down the left analogue stick at the same time. It starts just after you enter the throne room on level 5 of the ship when Nene is gripping Kluke's throat with that device. You must do it about 3 or 4 times. You should have a save for the beginning of level 5 if you fail it.

  • You summoned Shu's Shadow.

Another button bashing achievement this one. This time in the town of Devour, very early on in to disc 3. Just after Kluke collapses. When you go to the Inn to visit her and then leave. Make your way to the cliffs and summon your shadow. Three really intense dexterity sessions this. 3 X A but amazingly fast!! I'm talking REALLY fast. Definitely doable, but you may want to make it a save point before you go up on the cliffs, just incase.

  • You escaped without being stomped by the Squashtrich.

End of the epic scene. Nene is just about to squash Shu with the Ostrich robot and it asks you to button tap a button again to fight against it. When you stop it. It will give you battle options. Just "Flee" for the achievement. Same save as the previous if you fail.

  • You achieved the highest rank for one class of the Killer Bat Shadow.

See "Dragon: Max One Class" for details on leveling, tactics and general help.

  • You achieved the highest rank for one class of the Saber-Tooth Shadow.

See "Dragon: Max One Class" for details on leveling, tactics and general help.

  • You destroyed all the mechat base machine guns in Mechat Shooting Stage 2.

This Mechat stage can be found after you have access to your own Mechat, fly to the southern-most yellow marker on your world map. You should find a large flying purple base called Upper Mecha Base, as you get close you will see the A button in the lower left corner, push A and you will begin the stage. You need to destroy every gun in both parts of the base, you start low down where there are lots of machine guns/cannons and missile launchers. You should take out all but one of the missle launchers using your own missiles and then use the machine gun to take out everything else. Once you destroy the last missile launcher you move onto the next section.

For this part you want to take out the large spherical ring laser guns as quickly as possible to avoid damage, once they are all down destroy the missile launchers that were behind them. There are also a large number of machine guns near the centre of the base that need to be destoryed and four larger machine guns around the perimeter. You have plenty of time for this section as it only ends once you destroy the large spire at the centre, just take your time and be sure every gun is destroyed.

  • You got a bonus for completing the Moon Laser perfectly.

In the middle of the achievement above on the 3rd floor. I personally went back to it after I did the whole ship cause I had it on a different save, not recommended in some sense cause you get an "All Heart" level boost for doing it perfect, but so much harder this way. I personally, loaded up my save for level 3, cleared a path through to the final door, then ran back to create a new save. This way, if I failed, I only needed to run there in future. Otherwise, there is a checkpoint at the end of level 3 before you start the task, so if you fail, die and load the checkpoint.

    To get perfect you must...

    a.) Not take any damage
b.) Not hit the reverse of any moon.

A tough one in actual fact. My advice is to hold down the A and let go when you see the moon's shoot animation start and only then. Good luck guys. It can be infuriating.

  • You cleared Mechat Shooting Stage 3 with no damage.

Where: Northwest part of the map. Giant crater in the ground signified by the purple plus symbol.
When: Disc 3. Mechat is obviously needed.
What to do: Take out the land shark AND do it without taking damage.
    Recommendation: Fully upgrade the Mechat

WARNING - Make sure you don't complete it while there are missiles in the air cause after you defeat the shark, the game locks but the missiles keep on coming and hit you.

Again, this comes in two parts. Stage 1 and stage 2.

Stage 1 - Yellow Energy Bar
The first part starts off easy and gets tricky. The shark starts in front and drops a few mines now and then. Shoot the mines and keep the machine gun going in between. Hopefully you will have upgraded the Mechat so that the guns never overheat. After taking 75% of the sharks health, he will move to your left hand side and then fire about 4 missiles. Take these down and follow him to the back while continuing to fire the machine gun at him. Watch out for the rockets he launches as well, the split ones are tricky, one to the left and one to the right. Once the energy bar is empty, a cut scene will be triggered as he is about to fire his beam cannon.

Stage 2 - Red Energy Bar

After the very short cut scene, the shark will fire some more of those split rockets but sometimes with 3 or 4 missiles going across the screen. In between picking the missiles out the sky, fire the machine gun and missiles at the shark. Watch out for the super rocket attack which centralises about 10 down the middle. Just keep rinsing and repeating and take heed of the DOUBLE WARNING at the top and the achievement should unlock at the black screen after you kill the shark.

  • You got all of the dragon items.

    First defeat the Moody Dragon....

Moody Dragon - Gives Moody Dragon's Fang
Location: Underground River, to the right of the far save, by the respawning Kelolon, must defeat all Kelonon and Hyper Kelonon. Exit and it should appear.
Level to attack: At least a 35.
Advice: Don't go on the defensive at all. Just keep attacking. Physical attacks do the trick, when he starts to charge and fight back, that means he is close to defeat so keep fighting through it.

Then go speak to the Elder Baum in the Kelaso Village Underground (on the balcony). Then go after the hard remaining 4.

Blizzard Dragon - Gives Blizzard Dragon's Fang
    Location:
A small area west of Kelaso, at the top of a small hill.
Level to attack: 80 makes him easy to despatch. Possible with less.
Advice: Use two white mages to heal your party and the other three to attack, use the a Bellybutton Ring with the water element so that one character takes no damage. Use Flarus Sword and any other fire based attacks to deal the most damage.

Phantom Dragon - Gives Phantom Dragon's Fang
    Location:
The southern-most point of the Great Desert, near the Glass Spires.
Level to attack: 80 makes him easy to despatch. Possible with less.
Advice: ONLY use wind attacks, anything else will heal the dragon. Windus and Windus Sword work well, use the same Bellybutton Ring technique to keep one character alive, using any non wind users as healers.

NOTE: Corporeal attacks ADD health points so do NOT use them (try and find out the hard way if you must ).

**Don't forget to steal Nene's earring as well - You will need to equip - Assassin class - Ninja Swiftness & Treasure Hunt & Steal - Try and back attack if at all possible and save before you fight. If you don't get it first attempt, your attacks will miss and you will need to reload the save point again. Sucks but is necessary for the all items achievement.***

Amethyst Dragon - Gives Amethyst Dragon's Fang
Location: Follow the road South West of Jibral to the coast (Coastal Road). Follow that to the blocked part of the road and the dragon should spawn.
Level to attack: Level 80 makes this dragon an easy opponent.
Advice: Use Bellybutton of Wind if you have it. Dragon uses Wind attacks. Magic sword attacks do good damage. Personally found a good charged normal attack worked, equip Double Strike and it is effective as anything else. Used the two magic people to heal all the time (nothing else). With the Bellybutton ring, at least one of your characters is indestructible. Corporeal magic worked for me.

Spark Dragon - Gives Spark Dragon's Fang
Location: Gul Mountains, where the red barrier was.
    Level to Attack:
Advice: Strong on the offense, weak on the defense. Use water attacks and Corporeal to inflict massive damage.

    Dragon General Advice

    - Try equipping all your characters with "Regeneration" (top level White Magic). Basically gives them an extra life.
    - Prepare before each one. Make sure you have all your skills setup and your accessories done (for example, take off the Absolute Counterattack for the Phantom Dragon).
    - Double Strike is an effective tool against them, as is magic sword combinations.
    - Defense is the best option. Make sure you have full energy for your characters before starting the offensive. You have about 3 turns per every dragons turn, so make sure it stays that way.
