Preview:
Hunting Expeditions is relatively good for a Cabela’s game, making it still only an average game. All achievements can be earned offline in single player, and no achievement is missable since you can replay missions as much as you like.

The most time-consuming achievement will be "Gold Rush", which requires you to get all gold medals. Progress towards these medals can only be made in career mode, and can only be viewed in-game. Check regularly your progress through the Menu and scroll all the way to the right.

Hunter’s sense makes hunting very easy, so don’t be shy to use it. Just don’t go overboard with it, as it accelerates the passage of time, though it’s unlikely you’ll run out of time.

While driving on vehicle hunts, collect all flags before you initiate the hunt proper. You can always check your map for the locations.

Warning: After finishing a Career hunt, always return to mission select. Never choose replay, as that doesn't seem to save your progress.

Step 1: Career
Play through career, upgrading your gun while you progress. Try to get kills while both prone and free-aiming, and using Hunter’s Sense. Mix using your range finder and strategic mode to mark animals to get progress towards both achievements. Always go for the vitals, you need quite a few kills in all three categories. And don’t stick to just one gun class, as you’ll need 20 kills in each class.

Step 2: Quick hunt
Once done with Career, all locations should be unlocked for Quick Hunt. Simply hunt and claim two animals (for a grand total of 21), and then quit out. Repeat for each region and you’re done.

Step 3: Mopping up and grinding gold medals
Return to Career mode and work towards achievements and gold medals you’re still missing. You’ll likely be short at least some kills with different scopes.

Conclusion:
One of the better Cabela’s games, Hunting Expeditions gives you a semi-fast boost to your gamerscore with not too much hassle.

There are 35 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Hunted the First Trophy

Unmissable. You'll get this for hunting and claiming your first target.

  • Collected the first 5 Flags from the vehicle hunts

See "All Flags" for more info.

  • Collected 25 Flags from the vehicle hunts

See "All Flags" for more info.

  • Hunted 5 Trophies from at least 200 yards away

Replay the Namibia Zebra hunt for this. Make sure you have a 20x scope on the .300 Trailblazer.

Play the flag collecting intro and advance to the second area. Here, run NE to the hilltop to spot your first trophy. Mark it with your range finder, and then return to your starting position and climb a rock. From here, make sure you're at least 201 yards away, and make your first kill. Claim your trophy and initiate a checkpoint.

Activate Hunter's Sense and notice the green glow behind the plateau. Move in position so you can again use your range finder to mark your next trophy, and again back away until you're at least 201 yards away before shooting. Hunt one more trophy to finish the mission, then go back to mission select before repeating.

Should you miss, you can always restart or restart from checkpoint. If the first shot is too frustrating, just do the second one as there's less running involved if you restart from the first checkpoint.

  • Hunted 15 Trophies from a Shooting Rest

Throughout the game you will find shooting rests where you can go prone, providing a steady aim. Simply hunt 15 animals from these to unlock the achievement.

  • Shot a Trophy from optimal distance

When picking a gun, check it's stats for it's optimal distance, then hunt a trophy from this distance. You'll likely get this without really trying.

  • Obtained all the Gold medals

Medals can only be earned in Career mode, and progress towards them can only be checked in-game by hitting Start and scrolling all the way to the right. Most of them will come naturally, though some require grinding.

Low-level scope kills can be farmed with the two largest rifles on the first elephant hunt.

10x and 20x scope kills can be farmed with smaller calibres. Use the mountain goat or the antelope hunt, or whatever strikes your fancy.

The easiest way to find blood trails is the first elephant hunt. Wound the animal non-lethally so that it flees, then kill it before it escapes. Now run along the trail it fled, and depending on the distance it ran, you can find up to four finds.

  • Marked 20 big game animals

Mark 20 different trophy animals with your range finder, hunt them and claim them. Achievement unlocked.

  • Hunted 3 attacking animals in a single mission

Play the grizzly hunt with a low-level scope attached. Just get close enough so that a bear spots and charges you. Kill it and move to the next one. You don't have to worry about getting mauled, as you'll recover in 15 in-game minutes.

  • Hunted 8 attacking animals

f you don't have this at the end of the career, just replay the grizzly hunt.

  • Unlocked the first firearm

Unmissable. You'll get this for purchasing your first weapon.

  • Finished the first hunting mission

Unmissable. You'll get this for finishing the first carer mission.

  • Hunted a big game animal from at least 70 yards away

This will come naturally. You can use a shooting rest to steady your aim, or the very least, click to hold your breath.

  • Activated 20 Hilltop Spotting locations

From your map, find these locations to climb to them, and activate them. You have to use different locations, but later hunts will have up to five, making this an easy-to-get achievement.

  • Activated 15 Shooting Rests

Use the shooting rests littered over the maps. You do have to use different ones, and not the same one over and over again.

  • Marked 10 Trophies in Strategic View

When closing in on your target, you most of the time get prompted to enter Strategic View to plan your shot. Here, mark one of the brightly-lit trophy animals. Repeat nine more times to unlock the achievement.

  • Earned 180 GP in one hunt

The GP (in-game currency) earned correlates to trophy size and your performance. You'll get this easily as you progress through career and the trophy animals get bigger.

  • Claimed an animal on 5 Quick Hunt levels

See "Quick Hunt Pro" for more info.

  • Claimed an animal on all Quick Hunt levels

There are ten regions, which require you to play them first in Career mode to unlock. For efficiency's sake, claim two animals from each for "Quick Hunt Expert".

  • Hunted 4 animals in the vehicle hunts

This will come naturally through 'story' progression.

  • Hunted 10 small game animals

Boars, warthogs, beavers, baboons etc count as small game. Simply shoot 10 of these while on missions to unlock the achievement. The zebra hunt (where you get the 200+ yard kills) is good for farming, as at the start of the mission you encounter four warthogs.

  • Claimed more than 20 animals in Quick Hunt

See "Quick Hunt Pro" for more info.

  • Hunted 20 animals with rifles

Before entering a mission, you get to choose a weapon. Check it's stats under which category it falls, and rack up kills with it. The latter category weapons will be available for purchase once you unlock more hunts. These achievements will come quite easily.

  • Hunted 20 animals with Semi-Auto firearms

See "20 Rifle Hunts" for more info.

  • Hunted 20 animals with the Lever Action firearms

See "20 Rifle Hunts" for more info.

  • Hunted one Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and White Rhino

This will come naturally through 'story' progression.

  • Unlocked all the gun parts

For this achievement, you'll have to purchase all attachments for all weapons. You'll make huge amounts of GP from hunting the largest animals, so this won't be hard.

  • Unlocked all the Semi-Auto firearms

Purchase all weapons labelled as 'Semi-Auto' and the achievement will unlock.

  • Unlocked all the Lever Action firearms

Purchase all weapons labelled as 'Lever Action' and the achievement will unlock.

  • Found 50 animal tracks

Throughout the hunts, you'll come across animal tracks. All you have to do is press when prompted, and repeat 49 times.

  • Earned 25,000 XP from a single Trophy

Impossible to not get through story progress. Elephants can yield over 100,000 XP, but you'll have this long before hunting slightly smaller animals.

  • Unlocked all the Rifles

Simply purchase all available weapons and the achievement will unlock.

  • Reached the highest level possible

You'll need one million XP. Do the first elephant hunt, and earn around 100,000 in about two minutes. Repeat until done.

  • Reached 500,000 XP

See "Master Hunter" for more info.

  • Gathered all the Flags from the vehicle hunts

There are ten vehicle hunts that start off with you driving around collecting flags. Simply collect all flags before going for the trophy. You can check the flags' locations from your map, and make it even easier finding them if you activate your Hunter's Sense. Beware that this will make time run faster, though.

Repeat this in all missions and the achievement will unlock.
