Call of Duty 3

Call of Duty 3 Achievements

Grizzled Veteran

Complete the Single Player Campaign on Veteran difficulty.

Some Tips that may help :

* Good use of smoke grenades is a vital part of the game, use them well and in the right places and it will make this a hell of a lot easier. Remember not to waste them though, as smoke grenades are not in plentiful supply.

* Always stay behind cover - try not to get stranded in the open or the enemy will often take you down. When reloading always do it behind cover as getting caught mid-reload will often end up with you dying.

* Always make good use of your fellow commerades. They will often be a great help and take out a number of enemies for you. They will not do all the fighting for you and you will be kept very busy, but staying behind while your fellow country men storm a house will often save you dying instead.

* When you get shot, as soon as the screen flashes and judders, get to cover as quickly as possible. This flashing screen means if you're shot again you will die. Stay in cover until the screen returns to normal.

* Always keep a careful eye on the grenade indicator, as soon as it pops up, be somewhere else. Alternatively, you can try throwing the grenade back at the enemy.

* Choose your weapons carefully, when fighting in close proximity to the enemy an automatic weapon is always the best choice. A rifle is the best choice for the enemies at long range. Be sure to carry one machine gun and one mid to long range rifle at all times.

* When clearing houses of the enemy, grenades are the weapon of choice. Remember they will bounce off walls if you want to clear the enemies around corners without the risk of being shot.

* If your stuck on a certain mission for a long time, try a different strategy, head a different way, or try something different to what you have been doing previously. Different strategies will work for different people and there a various ways around many of the obstacles.

Holy was this ever a bitch to get! All I can say is persistance. Oddly enough some of the parts I found difficult the first time going through on regular or hardened, I didn't have too much trouble on veteran. And the gameplays were like a year apart. I've read people complain about infinte respawns and bullets flying through walls (wooden or brick) but I didn't find that to be too much of an issue. Anyways, it's done, time to shelf the game forever!

I did the campaign on vet a long time ago, but I got stuck on one mission so I decided to skip to the next one...beat the entire game on veteran, but not in order I suppose, so I didn't get the achievement. Was pissed as hell. Took the game out and have never played it since lol

i got stuck in the furnace in the mission at a fuel plant... damn difficult. i had several problems prior to this, but i eventually got to this point. this thing is a bloody hell.

Smoke grenades are the best way on the furnace, smoke all of the downstairs then sprint upstairs spraying anything that moves and frag grenades to clear upstairs storeroom..

I'm presently stuck on the forest level mortar pit, the checkpoint is way back and it takes a good half hour to get to the bunker where the mortar is, I find I keep dying trying to use the mortar and frustratingly have to go all the way back to the road. Any tips?

Good luck to anyone going for this one. I'm still near the beginning and can already tell it will be one achievement I will never earn lol

@4 I found that part frustrating as well. I think I threw smoke out once you get into the mortar pit and start going for your targets. When the enemies get closer get off the mortar and shoot them down. When they cleared up briefly get back on the mortar and take a few more shots. I also found a youtube video and tried to piggy back off of that person's approach to completing that part.

I finally beat this game on veteran. I was having trouble with the fuel plant. I skipped it and finished the game on veteran, but didn't ge the achievement. Finally, I played through it again on veteran, finally beat it, and got the achievement after messing around with those F52 Guns for 3 hours. Oh well, now it's finally time for MW3.

Guys! I'm playing the levels on Veteran, but from time to time I go back to the levels and play them on Easy. Will this affect the achievement?

@Donjet: If it's anything like the other CoD games; as long as you return at some point and finish each level, start to finish, in any order on Veteran, the Achievement will unlock.
Good luck!

Not that hard. At least not much harder than any other COD. There is no infinite respawns in this game. You may need to wait 5-10 mins, but if you pick off a certain number of enemies they will eventually stop coming. If you rush in, hoping to advance, you'll probably end up with an active spawn point behind you. No wonder so many of you thought this was near impossible.

The blast furnace at the Fuel Plant was rough, but just sit back and pick off enemies (somewhere around 50) and they will stop spawing after several minutes. Also, storming the hill, bunker, and mortar pit was the hardest for me, because I suck with the mortar. Took me about an hour to get past this checkpoint. Stay behind your squad and use the Springfield, and save at least two smoke grenades for the mortar targeting

The 2nd to last level was cake. I only died more than twice at the end. Save 2 smokes for cover when you grab the bazooka, then hide until support arrives.

I did this on my second play through, and I've only owned the game for about a month. Anyone remember Men of Valor on the first Xbox? Vietnam FPS that was challenging on Easy, brutal on Normal, and a stress inducing nightmare on Hard. It's still the only FPS that I've played to defeat me. I never finished it on Hard.

Well the only part i found really hard was the part in which you had to clear the farmhouse and the 88 near it as britsh player.

I believe i died like 50 times their before finally completing the level,
but like it was said before just wait and kill enough to keep them from spawning.

And some patience;)

For everyone stuck on the forest level mortar pit...
i recommend you go back to the beginning of the level, and go through it with out using any of your sniper ammo, you will need as much as you can get to get through that forest! i found that just sitting there, sniping them for ages, (seriously, you want to be doing this for at least 20 minutes) didint stop them coming, but it did thin them out. i recommend that your other weapon should be an mp40. basically, crawl prone through the forest with your mp40 out, hiding behind rocks trees etc. i stuck to the right side of the area, as there seemed to be more cover, but you could try the left side also.
When entering the bunker, please beware of the enemy soldiers inside! once you reach the mortar, slow and steady wins it! Dont get greedy!t

to aim the mortar, rotate your controller thumbsticks, both of them. operate the mortar for no more than about 2 seconds before leaving it and get ready for enemies who will come from the bunker and from the trees in front of you. you might also want to swap your sniper rifle for a kar98 as you can aim quicker and reload quicker. only when you are SURE you have a few seconds break should you use the mortar again. Note: you may also be able to use the mortar to hit enemies, but be careful! this can be difficult and will waste precious seconds you could spend hitting your target! once you hit your target 2-3 times (dont remember sorry, did this a while ago), you will have finished what i reckon is easily the hardest part of this game and one of the most frustrating levels of a fps game ive e

ever played! and... once you do finally get through it, SAVE AND QUIT! doesnt matter if you want to keep playing, save it and then load it up again. power failures do occur, and im sure you dont want to have to do this again!
Hope this helps everyone

I've just spent about 4 hours (total and/or consecutive) trying to finish the last bit of the Mission 4 bridge level. Not exceptionally hard except for the part where you come back up the stairs under the bridge... I think there's a bug/glitch near the top... the sandbags and wall of the road by the steps don't seem to hide you from the enemy, because you get shot no matter what. On the bright side, you can shoot through it using the quick aim LT button, at least, if you make a valid assumption where the Gerries are, because you still can't see. Plus your squad seems to suffer a gradual attack of cowardice after you die a dozen times and won't follow you up the stairs, meaning there's nobody else to stop the bullets. Is this a bug or a sick joke? ;) I mean I guess I'd be a little relu
