Condemned is a great game that has several different things to collect along the way. Not to mention, there are also weapons that you must collect and use as well as evidence you must gather. Other than the collecting achievements, the rest of the list is very straightforward and easy as many of the achievements you'll accomplish as you progress through each level.
Introduction
Welcome to Condemned. This game has a total of 50 achievements and requires two playthroughs to get 970. Of the achievements, 3 are unlocked by playing through the story a second time. Those achievements include the Bronze, Silver and Gold Melee Master Award achievements. I actually completed the game in 1 and a half playthroughs as there were some levels I only used melee weapons on during my first playthrough so it can vary based upon player. All other achievements can be gained by playing through the story mode the first time. You'll want to be aware that it is very easy to miss the Chief Investigator Award achievement as some of the evidence you'll be required to collect can be somewhat easy to overlook in dark environments. Nevertheless, taking your time will earn you this achievement as well.
Step #1: Preparation
Before beginning your playthrough, it is important to set up your bird, metals, and TV checklists. A list of all birds, metals, and TV locations can be found here. For the achievements regarding using all guns as well as using melee weapons only, it is also recommended printing off a checklist of those, found here. There is also a list of all the evidence just to make sure you don't miss anything located here. Once you've got your lists, it's time to get started.
Note: The achievements for using melee weapons only during a level will unlock once you've completed the level along with the level completion achievements. Although you are not allowed to fire the weapons during a level, you must use each gun weapon as a melee in order to gain the melee master award achievements. To do so, simple press the button to wield any gun for melee attacks.
Step #2: Play the Game
As you play through the game, the main thing you need to do is check off what birds, metals, and TV's you have collected. If you don't do this, you will most likely end up with one or two birds/metals/TV's left behind in a level. It is important to do this because once you have made it through certain parts of a level, you are unable to go back unless you reload the chapter from the beginning so be sure and take your time.
During Chapter 8: St. Joseph's Secondary School level, you will encounter a lunch lady with the Meat Cleaver. You will want to use this weapon on the next enemy after defeating her because it is the only place within the game where you'll be able to use the Meat Cleaver. This level is also one of two levels where you will be able to pick up the rifle. Using this weapon as a melee as soon as you pick it up is also suggested as it is easy to forget later in the game if you have done so.
If you happen to die during a level, go back and use the same weapons you used, collect the items you had collected before you died again. It is safe to do so to avoid a headache later when you've completed the game. If you are checking off items from a list and die, it may be hard to recall which items you used during that level, so placing a symbol (square, triangle, circle, etc...) beside the item until you complete the level may be a good idea when you can then mark them completely out.
Step #3: Mop Up
Once you complete the game and watch the ending, reload your last checkpoint to get the other ending achievement. Of course, if you missed any birds, metals, or TV's during the playthrough, just simply load the chapter of the ones you might have missed and go back to get them. This also goes for any evidence you may have missed along the way as well. For the evidence, the most commonly missed evidence includes:
- Chapter 2: Investigate the button on the elevator in the basement for a fingerprint.
- Chapter 2: Before you move the locker at the end of the level, check the door for scratches.
- Chapter 4: Extremely hard to miss, but by the end of the level, you have to check the map twice. Once a wide-view picture (required), the second a close-up on the circled area ("hidden").
- Chapter 8: On the left wall of the first corridor for a stain of blood.
Conclusion:
That's it! If you've gotten to this point and followed my advice you should have 970. If you're still lost on an achievement, be sure to check out the Condemned forums by clicking here.
