Introduction

As an introduction to Dead Rising 2, Case Zero gives you a look at the new characters Chuck and Katey. The story actually takes place three full years before the Dead Rising 2 story, so Katey whom is 4, will then be 7. This game is a really easy arcade game you can complete in one or two sittings. It's priced a 400 MS Points. There is no difficulty setting and three save files. Like the first Dead Rising, if you die or quit, you have the option of restarting the story with your stats.

Step 1: Getting 1000 Kills

The first thing you want to do is get your 1000 zombie kills. If you attempt it while trying to do everything else in the game, you will be extremely stressed for time. Start the game up and continue until you get the cart with the main bike frame in it. This is within 5-10 minutes of the game's start. Now just run around town (holding ) with the cart running over zombies. Within 20-30 minutes you should have all 1000 kills and a ton of experience (should be almost or to level 3). Now you can hit and restart your playthrough with all of your gained experience.

Step 2: Spending $100,000 at Pawnshop

Go ahead and start up a regular playthrough. Once you get your $30,000 (check description for "Small Town, Deep Pockets" in the guide), save your game. Either make a save in slot 2 as well, or continue on remembering to get your achievement and then quit. Keep going back and forth from the casino to the safehouse gaining a good amount of money each run. Buy the moose head to run faster by holding down . Keep spending your money until you get the achievement.

Step 3: Getting All Weapon Combos Created

From the previous step, you may continue your game and grab all of the weapon combinations, or start a new game on a different save and run through really quick to grab them all. You can get all combinations within a shot route through the town, taking up to only 15 minutes. There are only 9 of them total. See the achievement details for the route, checklist, and video.

Step 4: Play Prelude - All Survivors and Unlocked Doors

Now it's time to play through the game gaining the rest of the achievements. You will have plenty of time to do everything you need, and will only need to complete the story once provided you followed the previous 3 steps. You now just have to find all the parts, survivors, unlock the doors, and defeat Jed. Follow the guide for specific details on where everything is, and make sure you buy a 2nd Zombrex from the pawnshop so you have the extra one for Katey. Make sure you pick it up from the floor, or you'll have to buy a new one as the items will vanish when you head through the safehouse.

Conclusion

You should now have all of the achievements in the game, most likely in one easy sitting. This game's stats will carry over (top level being 5) to the Dead Rising 2 game. You should also have a good understanding of the game mechanics and how things work. Feel free to explore more on a continued playthrough with your stats maxed for fun.

There are 12 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • Save all the survivors in Still Creek.

There are a total of 10 survivors you must save. Two of the notebook entries do not count towards the achievement, and are described in those specific entries. A good portion of the survivors can only be found at certain times. The information on their whereabouts (aka scoops) come from Bob, who yells at you once you first exit the pawnshop. He continues you give you scoop information on the various survivors needing help as you progress. If a survivor isn't where they are supposed to be at their scheduled times, go through the door to the safehouse to have the game reload the information. They should be there afterwards. Once you know about the survivors, you have a certain amount of time to rescue them. They must be escorted back to the safehouse after you meet their special conditions. They have a health bar, but you really don't have to defend them much. When you get to the safehouse door, enter it and that counts as you saving the survivors.  Follow the schedule below:

Who: Katey Greene (Notebook entry 012)
When: From the start of the game until the end.
Where: She waits in the safehouse area.
Special Conditions: She is tied to a seperate acheivement, but is not required for this one. You must give her Zombrex between 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Who: Dick Jones (Notebook entry 011)
When: After gaining the objective to fix the bike
Where: On top of the white van just outside the safehouse on the road
Special Conditions: Kill most/all the zombies around him, then escort him to his shop

Who: Bob Blackrock (Notebook entry 003)
When: Early on he gives you scoops of other survivors. After 7:00 PM speak to him.
Special Conditions: You have to find his daughter, talk to her, then talk to him again.

Who: Fausto Vargas (Notebook entry 004)
    When: Anytime after pawnshop.
    Where: The Dirty Drink bar
Special Conditions: You must grab two beers in the bar and give them to him.

Who: Gemini Vargas (Notebook entry 007)
    When: Anytime after pawnshop.
    Where: The Dirty Drink bar
Special Conditions: You must meet the conditions to escort Fausto Vargas. After you have rescued her, she has a side mission for you to find her gems. They are located on road to the Quarantine Camp. On your way, look for a yellow car inbetween two white vans. The gems are to the right of the yellow car.

Who: Nikki Valentino (Notebook entry 008)
    When: After 1:00 PM
    Where: Bowling Alley
Special Conditions: You must find Sharon Riesinger in the Quarantine Camp and bring her back to the bowling alley.

Who: Tia Hernandaz (Notebook entry 010)
    When: After 1:00 PM
    Where: Bowling Alley
Special Conditions: You must find Sharon Riesinger in the Quarantine Camp and bring her back to the bowling alley.

Who: Sharon Riesinger (Notebook entry 009)
When: After encountering Tia and Nikki in the bowling Alley.
Where: In the Quarantine Camp, turn right at the entrance and she's in the tent on the left.
Special Conditions: You must give her a Zombrex shot, either the initial one you start with or one you buy for $25,000 at the pawnshop. You must carry her.

Who: Archie Eaton (Notebook entry 002)
    When: After 3:00 PM
    Where: Behind Department Store
Special Conditions: Must meet conditions of Jason Wong.

Who: Jason Wong (Notebook entry 005)
    When: After 3:00 PM
    Where: Behind Department Store
Special Conditions: Must find him a broadsword and trade him for the part he is holding. The broadsword is located at Bob's Fish 'n Hunt store. You get inside by dropping in from the roof.

Who: Darcie Blackrock (Notebook entry 006)
    When: After 7:00 PM
Where: Bob's Fish 'n Hunt Store
Special Conditions: Talk to Bob in order to get her scoop first, then you can go to her. After talking to her, you must return to Bob on the rooftops. He needs to accompany you to speak with her.

    Who: Jed (Notebook entry 001)
When: After giving Katey her Zombrex shot.
    Where: Scrapyard
Special Conditions: You must kill him. He is not a survivor that counts towards the achievement.

  • Escape Still Creek with Katey.

You should get this this while saving all survivors. While going for that achievement, you will have to give up your Zombrex to another survivor. To get another, you must buy one from the pawnshop for $25,000. This may sound like a lot, but if you rescue Gemini and then do her sidequest (after you save her, leave safehouse and you'll hear her crying). The item she wants you to find is on the right side of the road between two white vans leading to the Quarantine Camp. You will have $30,000 given to you total for saving and helping her. Now you have enough to buy the extra Zombrex. Go to the store and purchase it, but remember, you must pick it up from the ground for it to go into your inventory.

  • Defeat Jed the Mechanic.

You will face Jed after you give Katey the Zombrex shot. This will take place anywhere from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM depending on when you give her the medicine. Preparing for this fight wouldn't be a bad idea. If you decide to go for some combo weapons, pick ones that are melee based and the helmet/beer combo for health. Though if you decide you don't want to waste time, a broadsword works very well too. The door to the roof is locked once you meet him. The snack area is open and you can just keep regaining health in that area if need be. Just go back and forth refilling your life and attacking him. He will not follow you back inside.

  • Kill 100 zombies.

See "Zombie Exterminator" achievement description. Though, you should easily get this through normal progression anyways.

  • Kill 1,000 zombies.

It's a good idea to do this right away. Start the game and head to the Quarantine Camp on the map. Check the ambulance and after the cutscene, you will be given a cart. Hold to push it forward. You can now run around town knocking over and killing all of the zombies. This achievement must be done in one sitting, as restarting a game with your stats will reset the zombie kill counter to 0. Once you get your 1000, you should be leveled up to or almost to level 3. Now, hit , go to quit, and restart using your stats. You now have the achievement out of the way and have a good head start on your level. Getting all 1000 should only take around 20-30 minutes.

  • Spend $100,000 in the pawnshop.

Inflation is very high in this game, so everything costs a lot of money. Once you have rescued Gemini go ahead and do her sidequest (after you save her, leave safehouse and you'll hear her crying). The item she wants you to find is on the right side of the road leading to the Quarantine Camp. You will have $30,000 given to you total for saving and helping her. Now make a seperate save file, or save without the intention of saving over your playthrough. You will want to get around $70,000 from the casino. Buy a moose head ($500) at the pawnshop and go to the casino. Everything takes one hit to destroy with the moose head. You should make around $7000. Now, if you hold you will start running at about twice the speed knocking over anything in front of you. Head to the safehouse and go through the door. The casino slot machines are now restored. Just go back and forth gaining money until you have enough. To check how much money you have spent, hit and go to status.

  • Find and return a bike part.

See "Ready to Ride" achievement description.

  • Rebuild the bike.

The bike parts are extremely easy to get when you know where they are. You will be able to get all parts straight after the pawnshop except for the handle bars, because a surivor has them (Jason Wong). After 3:00 PM you will be able to find him and the handle bars. Read each description for the locations and conditions for each part. They are listed in order as you should grab them. When you get on, you will have to return it to the safehouse and put it on the bike. You can press to attack with it, since it's two handed and you can't switch weapons. It cannot break. To see a list of bike parts, hit and select Bike Parts.

Note: You can finish all the bike parts and finish up everything else after building it. It will not end your playthrough if you fix it completely.

    1. Wheel: After unlocking access to the pawnshop, by saving the owner, you may buy the wheel for $5,000. You won't have enough at first, so run across the street to the casino and collect the money there (bashing the slot machines for extra). You can now buy it.

    2. Gasoline Canister: On your way to the safehouse from grabbing the wheel, stop by the gas station by the pumps. There's a red canister there. Pick it (dropping your Wheel) and then pick up the wheel again. The canister is a one handed item, so you can take both to the safehouse at once.

    3. Engine: The engine is in the alley next to the movie theatre. Go through the movie theatre and out the exit into the alley (this unlocks a door for you). It's on the ground.

    4. Bike Forks: This item is locked in a shed, located on the South East part of your map. It's the small building next to the grey circle (which respresents a giant tire sign). You must first get a key, which is located on the second floor of the hotel. To get there, go into the alley inbetween Bob's Fish 'n Hunt and Still Creek Casino. There's a green garbage can at the end. You can use this to jump to the fire escape (have to time it right). Now go up into the hotel. Go left and then right at the broken stairs. Inside the lone room there is a key to unlock the shed (gives you an unlocked door).

    5. Handle Bars: These can only be obtained from the survivor Jason Wong. He will appear anytime after 3:00 PM behind Uncle Bill's Department Store (exit out the back). He will want a broadsword before he gives you the handle bars. You will want to get the sword before you meet him. To obtain it, jump up to the building Bob is on (yelling/shooting guy). Now face the direction of the other building and jump to it. Go to the other side of it and go left along the awning. Now you can jump up to the hunting store, and drop down through the hatch. The sword is inside, and you'll get an unlocked door out of it too.

  • Build a combo weapon.

The first combo weapon you will make is the baseball bat and nails. It's a given, and the first achievement you will gain. Run to the bat, press to pick it up, then grab the nails. Put them both on the table and it will create the combo and give you your first achievement. See "A bigger taste..." achievement description for all weapon combos.

  • Build all available combo weapons.

    Combo Weapon Checklist

Below is a checklist you may use if you want to keep easier track of what combos you need and what ones you have. You can copy it into paint and use the brush to put an X in the white squares. I suggest worrying about these on a seperate save file, maybe the one you're getting your money on. These wil only take about 10-15 minutes to complete using my item locations. There are multiple locations for the items, but my layout will gives the easiest access and lowest amount of loading. You can create these over multiple playthroughs and still get the achievement. Items respawn after a load screen or cut scene. The most efficient place to contstruct your weapons is the maintenance room by Big Buck Hardware store, as almost all of the items you need are close by.

    Spiked Bat
-Bat: In front of you when you start, in the shed.
-Nails: In front of you when you start, in the shed.

    Drill Bucket
    -Drill: In the scapyard
    -Bucket: In the scrapyard

    I.E.D
    - Propane Tank: Maintenance room next to Big Buck Hardware
    - Nails: Maintenance room next to Big Buck Hardware

    Moltov
-Whiskey: Behind theatre in the alley
-Newspaper: Behind theatre in the alley

    Air horn
-Plyon (traffic cone): On the road towards Quarantine Camp, you'll find it between the first two white vans.
-Aerosol Can (spray paint): Alley behind Sheriff's Office

    Electric Rake
    -Rake: Big Buck Hardware Store
-Battery: Behind theatre in the alley on a garbage can (at the end of alley)

    Paddlesaw
-Oar: To the right of the first building on the bottom part of the map coming from the safehouse (the lone building by the Sheriff's Office). It's in the corner near the fence.
    -Chainsaw: Big Buck Hardware Store

    Beer Hat
-Beer: Found on streets or in Sheriff's Office by shotgun.
-Helmet: On a roof. Jump to where Bob stands. Head towards the fire escape that leads to the 2nd story of the motel. Jump from that area to the opposite building. Go to where the metal bridge starts and look left.

    Boomstick
    - Shotgun: Go behind the Sherrif's Office through the alley and it's upstairs on the desk in the office.
    - Pitchfork: Big Buck Hardware store.

  • Unlock all the doors in Still Creek.

There are a total of 4 doors that you can unlock. They won't set you back hardly any time at all and are normally a part of your path anyways. Though you don't offically unlock the door to the pawnshop, it counts towards the achievement. The pawnshop is unlocked by the owner after you save him.

Sheriff's Office: You must go through the back in order to unlock this door. To get there, enter the alley between the pawnshop and bowling alley. Follow it until you get to the Sheriff's Office. Explore if you want, then exit out of the front door.

Fish 'n Hunt/Shed: These should be combined. You will need the shed key, which is near the hunting store. Go to the alley behind the casino and onto the garbage can near the fire escape. Jump to the fire escape which leads up to the hotel. Go left, then right at the broken stairs and in the lone room to find the shed key. Now exit back out and jump over the rail to the vent. Jump from the vent to the other side of the opposite building. Follow it around to the awning, following it until you jump onto the hunting building. Fall through the hole. I suggest grabbing the broadswoard, you'll need it for a survivor later. Now exit which gives you an unlock, and then run to the shed and unlock it as well.

Theatre: Head to the movie theatre and go inside to where the screen is. Exiting out of the right door will count as an unlock, the last one if you followed my order.

  • Purchase a clue from Dick, the pawnshop owner.

When you get the pawnshop open, you have the option of purchasing a clue for $1000. Talk to the pawnshop owner to get the option, then confirm your puchase for this easy achievement. You start the game with $2,500, and there's a casino you can take money from across the street.
