Hard to the Core
|Complete the game on Hard Core setting|
Beating the game on any difficulty unlocks the Hard Core setting. The difficulties DO NOT stack in this game so beating it on Hard Core does not unlock Mission Impossible.

Oh shit. I was afraid of this; when I heard that hardcore only three saves and no checkpoints, I came here to see if it had an achievement.
What do you guys think? Can you imagine playing for 3-4 hours and before you get a chance to save, you get insta-gibbed by some cheap environmental or enemy one hit kill? I'll be absolutely incensed. Probably similar to that feeling I got when I was going for 7 Day Survivor in Dead Rising and the game froze when I tried to enter the cafeteria on day 6. Twice. That didn't go over well. I was so frustrated that I couldn't even act mad, I kind of just quietly sat around, completely enraged on the inside.

Do we know for a fact that you can't use a new game+ for this? I'm guessing not because that would kind of detract from the whole idea, but damn is that gonna be brutal. Thanks to a little bit of super fun OCD, I'll no doubt keep trying it until I do it, but I am gonna have a hard time pacing the saves properly. I'm sure somebody will make a guide for the best times to save before difficulty spikes and all that.

I loathe achievements that force you to play the game repeatedly.
No chance of getting every achievement without playing this game AT LEAST 3 times. You won't have enough money to fully upgrade 4 weapons in Zealot OR Hardcore, so your best option is to play first on Casual (to make it easy for those pesky achievements), then once more on Zealot, and once more on Hardcore.
This, to me, does not represent an "achievement", but instead an abuse of gamers who strive for achievement completion.
But at least they have no achievements that force you to play multiplayer mode. I love that.

I already started this and its the stalkers that are pissing me off the most. I
run and juke as many of the Necromorphs as possible, and door rush it, As in
Dead Space 1 once you go through the door to the next room they leave you alone.
I recommend remembering where things are (i.e. stasis docks, certain paths, and
which enemies that you can leave alone) because while your rushing, your paths
behind you will be swollen shut with enemies. Also use Kinesis with everything
that is laying around, sometimes you can use things as shields and smack & grab,
smack & grab, to clear a room. (this is really fun to do with a bench, also works
well as a shield). Phalanx Formation anyone?
@23, you right that's gonna be crazy.

Has anyone bought any of the new DLC yet? There's three packs that contain real
powerful suits and new weapons. No description though. It's probably similar to
Dead Space 1 with the DLC suits that made Impossible mode simple. I'm going to
get a pack but don't know which one to buy. Probably the "Hazard" pack as it
says it's for the toughest of jobs required.

This seems like a very good challenge for the intense DS fans. It really pushes your strategies and gives you a different and unique perspective of how to effectively kill necromorphs without a major loss of ammo or health. The only thing about this achievement that bugs me though is the 3 saves, and the fact that you have to start all over again with upgrades and such. I give credit to Dr. Pibbles, you're a badass :D

So can anyone confirm what the actual difficulty is? There were conflicting
reports that it is normal or survivalist difficulty with zealot type drops. If
you take less damage then maybe I'll try it. I'm playing on survivalist on my
first playthrough (15 hours in on chapter 14), and I can't imagine doing chapter
14 on hardcore. Way too many enemies and the part where you run from the you
know what with tons of guys spawning all over the place. I don't want no part of
that on hardcore. I haven't even faced the final boss yet (currently doing the
power node glitch for several hours) which I heard was tedious and frustrating

I haven't played any difficulty lower than zealot, so I can't tell you which one it is most similar too. I can tell you the mobs do less damage than zealot, and the ammo and health drops felt the same. The only thing that really concerned me were sequences that could one-shot you. Ammo/health were never a problem because I kept a padding of 20,000 credits at all time.

Some would say single player achievements add replay to an otherwise 8 hour game. No one said you had to get all of the achievements. You can get them all in two playthroughs, realistically. The only ones I didn't iron out in a single playthrough were "Epic Dismemberment", "Vacuum Cleaner" and "Fully Loaded". Seriously. 44 of 50 in one run isn't bad. Most games fuck with you harder, and this time around you don't have to stick to one gun.
Way to ruin the fun of achievements by waiting for exploits. Seriously. It's not an achievement then. It's a merit-fucking-badge you bought in a pawn shop with a few counterfeit coins.

Do you guys want some real advice? Well here it is, the difficulty on hardcore is really not that that bad. It is honestly just like normal or zealot. All the real hardship comes in just the description, you have just three saves. You really do have to use your best judgement on when to use your saves, I cant tell you that, however I found out this one very helpful and interesting fact if you do get to disc 2 without saving. If you die(This is horrible I know) you revert from the beginning of disc 2 not 1. As far as difficulty the discription is bullshit. Health and ammo is scarce. This is not true, I had more health than I knew what to do with. I found myself using a medpack just to pick up another one to fill my inventory. Yes your inventory gets filled quick. Ammo is plentiful as long

as you dont fire off gung ho. Use the line gun, plasma cutter, and ripper, nothing else. Upgrade them all, you are unstoppable with this selection. The ripper is unbelievable because you can back up into a corner and use this. Necromorphs are morbidly stupid, and will just walk and run into your blade. When you upgrade this it is devastatingly powerful along with the plasma cutter and line guns alt fire. They are all life savers. As far as the saves go. this is when I saved. Before the tripod(or tormentor, cant tell) in the church with the children on chapter 5(by the way the ripper is awesome for the children, they are such pussies), again on chapter 9 before the room full of stalkers and before you fight the tripod while trying to explode those fuel tanks using the hydrogen cells with

TK(run from the tripod dont fight that sack of shit, not worth the ammo, use stasis), and my last save was right before the drill ride just because it made me nervous. I did that last part in the government sector in one sitting. Take your time, there is no need to rush the game is somewhat short. And use stasis alot during the game, especially during the end when running away from the regenerator. The last boss, nicole, Use the lineguns alt fire to immediatley mess her up and bring out the giant ball sack, and unload on the sack with your plasma cutter. If you do this right you should not take any damage. Rinse and repeat. And one more thing if your thinking that the DlC would be helpful but you dont want to spend the points, it is, and it is the supernova pack. I really hope this hel

I found a kind of glitch that is horribly long, but probably worth it. I have
the Supernova pack which gives you the heavy duty contact beam and detonator.
The contact beam is great at the beginning cause it can take the tormentor out
with three hits as well as the brute. plus when you run out of ammo simply sell the gun and buy it back for 0 credits(don't upgrade or this tricks not worth it) and for
the detonator buy the free one, fire the rounds, disarm them, pick them up
(don't reload), sell the gun, and repeat. 3 pack of detonators sells for 600
credits, a nice but slow way for some extra credits. I am still attempting to

EXPLOIT!! EXPLOIT!! This achievement isnt that hard. I have the playstation trophy and its easier for xbox players because you get a checkpoint after the 1 disk. Hardcore is actually survivalist difficulty with only 3 saves. I EVEN FOUND MY OWN EXPLOIT FOR FREE AMMO/CREDITS. First you must purchase the DLC with the detonator(i have all the DLC so it gives me 2 detonators which makes this exploit go much faster. Since the DLC items cost 0 credits buy the detonator (both if u have purchased the required DLC) and youll notice that there are 3 free detonator rounds. Shoot them on the wall then ALT fire so they disarm and land on the floor. Just repeat and sell the AMMO! HARD TO THE CORE WAS EASY MY PSN NAME IS ALSO MARIOBEANS!! CHECK OUT" MY PSN FOR PROOF

your spot on NORWEGIAN420. I saved at 4, 8, and the end of 11 right before the drill ride. I wished I saved at the end of 12 because i died at 13 a few times. so save at 4,8,middle of 12. Im pretty sure if you die on the second disk without a save on the second disk you start at the beggining of the disk so it is a free checkpoint but not a save so you must not turn your system off. this is what im lead to believe but i have deadspace2 on PS3 which is all on one disk.

Ok, I can confirm that after you have to change to disc 2 you start from Chapter 7 if you die, no savegame, just as a checkpoint. So this means there is 3 saves and 1 checkpoint at chapter 7 in this mode.
Also, during the elevator ride in Chapter 7, don't use any ammo on the tripods attacking you from the windows, just stay clear of them and they will all die and leave stuff for you when the ride is over. No ammo wasted.

I just got this achievement, took about 7hrs playtime.
Chapter 6: Complete and then save. Any saves before this chapter are wasteful
because the game hasn't reached a very difficult level yet.
Chapter 10: Before this chapter, repeating it would be tedious.
Chapter 13: The run from 13 to the end will be the most difficult.
I used primarily plasma cutter and pulse rifle. The detonator is very valuable
in this mode as well. Use the contact beam from brutes and stalkers. I finished with the game with a 15 slot suit w/maxed hit points. Sell a lot! Health will come
naturally, buy ammo for your primary guns. Reserve 2-3 slots for health packs.
I can't confirm the xbox 360 glitch; I didn't hear anything about it till now.
Get some caffeine and set apart a few hours! Hop

I have to say i found this achievement a little annoying at first but once you get the hang of where enemies are and where the one hit death sequences occur its kinda smooth sailing from there. I saved three times on chapter 5,8, and 11 and made it throught the rest of the game after chapter 11 using only the pulse rifle fully upgraded and having over 1000 bullets for the gun since having so much money and health i could just buy bullets for the gun at the store and sell any bullets that werent for the pulse rifle. This may not work for everyone or may not be to some peoples liking but give it a try i was able to beat the last few levels with ease thanks to this. Tip also when making store purchases switch to the suit that gives you discounts in the long run every last penny counts to buyi

Ok, I haven't red all of the posts here yet, so I'm not sure if someone already
posted this fact. Well anyway, You get one free save after chapter 7 when you
switch disc (haven't tried it out, but it surely makes sense) So try to make
sure you won't save more than once before that. I think I'll save my game at
chapter 4, 10 and 13. But I'm not sure yet. I will also consider the parts which
I thought were hard when I tried the game out on normal, like those f***in
stalkers, they were a pain in the ass the first time I've encountered them.
But yeah, hope this helped out a bit, and also, If you are going to play both
Zealot and Hardcore, play Hardcore first! Then Zealot will be a piece of cake
when using the epic finger cannon, thats what I'm gonna do anyway:D
And @6, I feel you

Fuck. That. Shit.
I tried it out..*sigh* I got to chapter 6 without any saves, It was going pretty
smooth, until I got to the part where you needed to take out the oxygen to stop
the fire. I was flying towards the battery on the ceiling and when I came up
there, I levelled myself with the ground (you know when you press the RB-button)
and I somehow managed to get stuck in the ceiling...I tried to get unstuck for
like 30mins or so, but no...Seriously...Fuck. that. Shit. I will however try it
out later again, but I'm still a bit pissed off for that, and I don't want it
to happen again this soon, otherwise I would have flipped and maybe do
something I would later on regret...

the disc change acts as a checkpoint, tought id say incase any1 would want to

I'm surprised as to how easy this realy was.
There was almost never any time I was low on ammo and health kits.
I used my saves at Chapter 7: after the jump from the solar array,
Chapter 14: right before 15 starts and at Chapter 15.
Tip: around Chapter 8, start stocking up medium health kits and ammo for your
weapon(s) of choice, about 6-8 kits and the same amount of your primary ammo,
(more only hurts if it leaves you broke, spend only when you can afford it)
and 2-3 stacks of your secondary one.
This left me with about 15 kits and 230 rounds for the plasma cutter + 50 for
my force gun for the final battle (lol).
PS: Don't nag at me for not having the achievement right now, I've just not
signed in at live recently.

I think it should be worth ONE (1) point. It would make it EVEN more frustrating. So many people would have 999, never to obtain that 1 last point. I truly think theis is the single hardest to accomplish. There are plenty out there that will take retarded amounts of time, but this one is just impossible hard. FAR too many cheap ways to die. too many times enimies just bum rush you. Too many times some envirmental thing cheaply kills you. I might try once. See how far I can go before I feel the need to save.
maybe around chapter 7. worried about the elavotor part. it would be nice to wait till 8 or 9, but the game gets really hard really fast after chap 7 or 8.

I think they did this because getting 100% in Dead Space 1 was SUPER SUPER easy. If you buy the DLC that makes your plasma cutter stronger then the entire game is a breeze even on the hardest diff. and then use the statis cheat code. The DLC on this game doesnt help much.

#52 yeah. I HATE multiplayer achievements. I am REALLY glad this game doesn't have them. What is worse this EA playpass crap. yeah you get it for free if you buy the game new but it costs what 10? 15? bucks for to buy it later. so if I buy a EA game used later on down the line, i have to pay for this stupid pass to try and get 100% achievements.
playpass AND NO online achievements. or online and no playpass. EA needs to choose one and stick too it cause some games like need 4 speed have playpass and online achiements.

This will be easy, i only started it tonight, i got to chapter 6 without being hit then died from a very stupid mistake, when i start properly at the weekend it should be a blast, play the campaign a few times, knowing spawns and jusmp points will save your ass more times than you can even imagine. If possible buy the dlc, the bloody force gun is a GODSEND. Lastly stay calm, only buy the force gun so you dont get ammo you dont need, and you should be fine, when i died i had the force gun and plasma cutter with over 100 rounds each and 7 medpacks, like i say if it wasn't for a stupid mistake id be way into chapter 10 by now, perfect your aim, learn the spawns and stay calm you'l get it easily :)

#110: You may be confusing this for a strategy some have developed. Many people will play through the game on Casual or Normal in order to unlock Hardcore, then playing through to unlock the Hand Cannon. They will then take their foam finger and proceed to "bang bang" and "pew pew pew" their way through Zealot, making it a four hour cake-walk. Considering the fact that Zealot is actually harder than Hardcore, aside from the saves (Hardcore having the damage counters of Survivalist and the item drops of Zealot), this might be what you're confusing for "Impossible." Though not unlocked by defeating Hardcore, it is certainly made much, much easier.

i saved at 4, 8 and 12 (didn't even need the save at twelve, but it sure relaxed me). I suggest playing a new game + before attempting this, i did and this was a breeze.
i good stragey i found was having the pulse rifle, line gun and plasma cutter at all points past ch 6. upgrade your health first, then till duration on line gun, special on plasma cutter and everything else on pulse rifle and stasis. also never sell stasis packs and never buy health unless you have to, save as much as you can in inventory. i had like 15 stasis packs by chapter 13 which basically made the rest of the game stasis and run (lame i know, but it was simple and it worked).
the pulse rifle i find is great especially for the little rusher guys (the ones in the final boss fight, one PULSE RIFLE shot owns them)

for the final boss fight, just line gun grenade the boss and empty pulse rifle clips into the yellow. (quicker for damage then the plasma cutter on the yellow stuff, plasma cutter is better for cutting) with this the final boss fight took literally seconds.
(this achievement is funner and easier then it looks)

The achievement is easier than it sounds.
At first I dreaded it, but now I'm itching to finish it. Currently, I have one save planted at chapter six, and am planning my next save for chapter eleven. Everything is actually going quite smoothly for me and to my amazement I haven't died once.
What I'm really not looking forward to is the Ishimura. I have bad memories from my first pplaythrough where I absolutely could not pass through it (I wasted to much ammo). I think I'll be able to do better now that I know what's happening though.

Im working through this slowly, i have just used my first save on the beginning of chapter 8, i was just careful from chapter 1-7 then once i got to the disk 2 checkpoint i run/gunned my way to 8 and then saved, i still have loads of ammo and a fully upgraded Plasma Cutter, should be easy enough now with 2 saves still to use.
Unlike alot of people im doing this without DLC, i refuse to pay for DLC just to make the game a tiny bit easier than it already is, seems like a waste of cash, ill be saving my points for better DLC like Severed.

This is the most annoying achievement I have EVER! attempted. I finally did it.
Save anywhere you like during your game just remember only save twice because
you want the last save for the final save station to prevent you from getting
to pissed off when you died. (If you die). I would recommend that you
complete Casual then Hardcore. After that do Zealot because then you can get the
Foam Finger which is fucking brutally amazing :)

Now playing for the third time, my learning... take your time! Study the rooms and consult online walkthroughs if needed. And don't get upset if you have to backtrack, can happen to anyone. (yeah, easier said than done).
If you get distracted, you're dead, not because it's to hard, but because you loose control and start acting stupid :)

I used the PC and the force gun up until chapter 13 then I used the contact beam the rest of the way. just so you guys know the contact beam is a must for the final boss at the end. takes 2 or 3 shots and it's dead! and I actually played the game through again just because the foam finger is soooooo much fun! But this one? Downright ridiculous. After 3 failed attempts I at least know that I will not be attempting it again. DS is one of my favorite game series, I 1K'd DS1 and DSI, and I really wanted to 1K DS2. I now know that will never happen. The tram part in chapter 2 was hard enough...hanging suspended, your aim way off...I did my first playthrough on Survivalist and that part alone took me 9 or 10 attempts. If you can't cope with frustration, don't attempt this achievement. This took me about 10 hours to beat, but it's a very satisfying achievement. I saved at 5, 9, and 12(Before the Drill)
Honestly, the best strategy is to pick one or two weapons and make them your favorites. Personally, I liked the Plasma Cutter. By upgrading it completely by Chapter 7, and buying about 100 rounds every time I went to the store, the game was a breeze. I died a total of 8 times when trying this, and the game froze once on Chapter 14.

Whatever you do, don't do what I did. Saved in Chapter 13 for the third time, continued through to the end, beat the boss, then in the ending flight up to the gunship SPLAT on the very last rock you have to clear (the over / under rock). If you get to this point, be sure to watch plenty of You Tube videos to memorize the rock patterns to clear the 4 or so rocks on the flight up to the gunship, otherwise you will be PISSED OFF.

I'm going for this now. I abandoned my Zealot playthrough to do a Haradcore one instead. Currently at the end of Chapter 7, managed the freefall/skydive part fine.
Not used one save yet, gonna drop a save at Chapter 9 because I'm shitting myself about the part where you have to throw the explosive barrels into the hydrogen trichloride(?) storage tanks while being mauled by Tripods. I figure I should perhaps just max out on stasis packs and meds before that part, and spam the Tripod(s) with stasis.
I'm currently using only Plasma Cutter and Contact Beam, but I have the Ripper (with only one extra magazine) as backup and for those Little Shits aka The Pack. Might switch backup weapon for Force Gun for the next few chapters though.

Fuck. Bastarding dickbag Leaper pwnz0rd me at the CEC door (right after the freefall/skydive part). Which as you can see, brought on my tourettes. Bollocks!
Just did the whole of Ch.7 again, with the aid of the Detonator gun this time.

Shit. That was a stupid idea, shoot out a window to make a vacuum and don't bother to shoot the emergency shutter release. Back to Ch.7 again. I've now decided to drop a save right after the freefall/skydive part, before the CEC door.

The Force Gun has VERY short range with primary fire.
Reached Chapter 11 now on Hardcore. Died twice so far and used one save. Gonna drop another save on Chapter 12 I think, before the drill ride. Then drop my last one before the eye poke machine.
I'm using the environment where I can, even backtracking through doors when I enter a room full of enemies - this will make them either loose interest or lure them into a chokepoint. RIG, Stasis and Plasma Cutter nearly fully upgradeded, Contact Beam slightly upgraded. So far most of my credits have gone on Contact Beam ammo. I now have quite a few Stasis packs and mediums meds in my inventory, and these are just what I've picked up.

Wednesday, March 02, 2011 @ 06:47:54 PM
FFS!! Fucking typical: owned about 2 minutes before I was going to drop my last save. The thing was, it was a Puker that killed me yet I had already killed it (one full charge Contact Beam) so I dunno WTF is up with that. It was probably for the best anyway as I had like no ammo left. It seemed that some super advanced enemies showed up and caused me to use up my ammo - this one point, I took out one advanced Lurker with two DIRECT shots from Force Gun alt fire, yet the next advanced Lurker still kep coming after I removed one of his tenticles AND hit him four times with Force Gun alt fire.

Sunday, March 06, 2011 @ 05:05:04 PM
Don't get intimidated by this achievement. It's really not that hard. You can do the DLC cheat using the detonator but it takes so long its just not really worth it. All I used was the plasma cutter, force gun (gun of choice), pulse rifle, and ripper.
for the saves, its really up to you. I saved right before the Tormentor, the Tripod nest, and right after the drill ride but as long as you keep a good amount of ammo on you and helth you should be good to save wherever. I only died once but it was because i ran into one of the lasers in ch14 not because of any necro.
I know someone is probably going to want to actually see if i have the achievement but Im new on here so I don't know how to enable them. If someone could help with that it'd be awesome

upgrade your stasis and rig first. thats mainly whats going to keep you alive. after that start by upgrading the gun you use most then go to other guns. for the DLC, its not hard or really time consuming. it only took about an hour to beat on Zealot. It really just gives some more incite into what happens with Gabe and Lexine after Extraction

I think I might have "the gift" lol. I started out thinking I could out smart the system, "I just won't save at all, what then game?" And early on, random thoughts, I remember the Spitter in the lift on Chpt6, having tromped him on all but the first play through. Game was going like silk, kept my supplies on point, only remeber being in the yellow once. Along comes the elevator Spitter bit, I have a massive brain fart and charge right into the box with him. Needless to say, my head exploaded.

Started it a couple of days ago, everything was going surprisingly well and easy, up until just before the first Zero-G area. One of those Exploders with the yellow sacs for arms chased after me, and rather than severing his arm or Stasis-ing him, I shot the sac when he was quite close. Needless to say, I died in one hit, from full health. Bah!

@ 150 - Yes but it also obliterates almost any enemy when it's fully powered OR gives you a good length of breathing room. That gun carried me through the first games Impossible mode.
@ 165 - Stand right in front of Ellie and keep looking left to right. Force gun just about everyone against/off the railings then bust out whatever longer ranged weapon for the Lurkers on the cliffs. This is one of the parts I know I'll be frusty with.
Saturday, March 26, 2011 @ 09:21:47 AM
The drill ride's easy if you have a lot of ammo and health. Just remember the Lurkers appear on the right first, and then the left. There's some health packs early on you can pick up with Kinesis, as well as some explosive cansiters.

Don't feel like you have to just have the two weapons as most suggest! I did it with a 'normal' weapon set and did it one day. I suggest getting both martial law
and supernova; Martial law for the force gun (they are right when saying this will get you through the game) but the main attraction of supernova isn't the suit but
the fact that you unlock force ammo straight away! this means you can stock up
on (cheap) force ammo without worrying about schematics and you can have it from
Just do it your own way, it's useful to have a pulse rifle instead of a plasma
cutter but the force gun makes the play through so much easier!
Good luck all

I don't think this sounds too hard. I beat Zealot mode in one sitting with limited ammo and a fully upgraded flamethrower (trust me, it helps in Zealot) so yeah, if the difficulty isn't Zealot in this I think it will be fine.

I got this about 2 weeks back. Saved mid Chapter 5 (part right after 'Event
Horizon' gravity generator), a third into Chapter 10 (after clearing Engineering)
and at the end of Chapter 13. I chose those points to take full advantage of the
chapter 7 checkpoint. This achievement isn't hard because of the enemies or ammo.
What will kill you are quick time events, airlocks, and zero gravity hazards.
During my run I died to all three of these things (only once did it cost me hours
of play), so let me share some of my mistakes. The force gun can blow out airlocks,
the Nest's spikes can knock you back into hazards EVEN if the have lost their
explosive tips, and the last airlock room is a BITCH. It's tiny and features
an enhanced slasher and an exploder. My suggestion

Here's the thing. Hardcore mode isn't even that bad. Just use the plasma cutter and ripper. I promise those are the best guns. I finished the whole thing in 6 hours. Save at chapter 6, 10, and 13. And if you do make it to the second disc and die you don't have to start over. Just from where disc 2 begins. Once you beat it, you get a red foam finger which kills in one shot. Unlimited ammo and no reloading. I finished new game plus with that gun in three hours. So easy. Just be sure towards the end of trhe game before the marker fight to save all plasma cutter bullets. You'll need them at the end boss. If i can do it on hardcore you can. And i only have like 12000 total gamerscore.

Well I actually started the game at normal, it was a mistake of mine and when I realized it it was just before going againts the first monster encounter at the end of the first chapter. I paused, went to the settings and changed it at hardcore...It let me do it and then when I died it made me start right where I had made the switch to hard core. I guess it work but I didn't want to take a chance and go through the whole thing for in the end the game would not give me the hardcore achievement cause it wasnt set since right at the beginning. So what u think

Demon Cat, from my experience of completing Hardcore, the best areas to save are as late into the game as possible. I'm talking droping your first save AFTER Chapter 7, as you get the free disc-swap checkpoint at the start of Chapter 7. After all, shits starts getting real towards the end of the game, so that's where you'll need most of your saves. Might be an idea to try and space out your saves a bit too, like two chapters apart or something. Being one to go against the grain, I grouped mine quite close together, using my last one at the start of Chapter 13.

I like how I try Zealot and hardcore and all the problems and glitches in the game come out to play, but when you play on normal and casual everything goes fine, so fuck you dead space 2 and chapter 13 and its glitches that make it impossible to advance and all the holes in your levels that you can fall to your death through the floor, game testing, better start doing it a bit better, and that damn battery don't get me started on that, still I will try again.

i still haven't tried this but i think that the best places to save would be before the hallway with the brutes on the ishimura, before the eye-poke machine and in the middle of the final run...
but maybe i'll use it somewhere in chapter 4 like the dude from nexgentactics.com before the room with the 5 leapers or before the tormentor...

Only 3 saves and no checkpoints?
A hard achievement is cool and all but this is just stupid and beyond
frustrating. I'm sorry, but having to replay chapters multiple times due to
dying is not my idea of fun.
Also, did they bother to think about people who don't have all the time in
the world to sit and play a game 3-4 hours straight before saving? I don't think
Definitely one of the hardest achievements I've seen but one of the dumbest as
well. If I get this game, I will be sticking with 950G most likely. This is for
the hardcore gamers and Dead Space lovers no doubt. I feel sorry for the people
who have this game and have an OCD condition and have to get all achievements
or they go crazy...

Ok, i've used all my saves and my last save was at the start of chapter 11, i really wanted to use my last save later but i had just got through the ishimura and had a couple of close calls, i thought it was going to glitch out at one point, i was going down in an elevator in complete darkness and thought i was going to be stuck in there.
So i really didn't want to do that chapter again so i played it safe and saved before the stalker part at chapter 11, does anyone think i've got a chance and any tips for these last few chapters?

i realized i completely screwed myself by using my last save at the start of chapter 11, you really need to save later, the earliest i'd recomend is probably at the start of chapter 13, i died near the end of chapter 15 because i ran out of plasma cutter ammo, i really didn't expect to get that far though, if i started again my last save would probably be just before the eye-poke machine, but i really don't think i have the patience to start again :z

I don't like this achievement because of the cheap insta-kills. they really need to pick one or the other as far as saves/instakill goes. the game is obviously too easy and too short so they throw this BS in there. its not bad but this game gets REALLY boring since every attack is scripted. i don't mind the time but i hate repeating the same thing. if i wanted to do that i'd play multiplayer, at least the combat would differ.

Just beat this today, Saved right at Chapter 7 right before the room where you fight a bunch of guys (thing is you don't need to fight in this room, you can run around a circle till Ellie gets the door open and no new guys will spawn). then I saved right before the drill ride (if you do not move at all on the drill ride the lurkers barbs will not hit you, the drill moves just at the right speed) and then my last was right before the eye poke machine, i didn't want to start back at drill if i messed up the eye poke, but i didn't die after that anyways so I didn't need it.

guys i got this awhile back and i base this achievement around a mixture of luck and planning. I beat the game on normal first then zealot then hardcore. By the time i got around to doing it on hardcore, i had memorized everything in the game. PLAN OUT YOUR STRATEGY. this difficult leaves no room for blind luck as inventory is short and health packs are rare. In terms of weapons, use plasma cutter and force gun only. carrying extra weapons means less ammo for the weapons that you will need. If you have extra Microsoft points, buy the martial arts pack. The martial arts packs gives you a free suit in the game and free weapons in the store. The suits are free and they give you a boost to the weapons in terms of damage. Saves are simple, I saved in chapter 5, 10 and 13 (before the eye poke ma

It goes "BANG BANG" with RT, and RB goes "PEW PEW."
And of course it's all in Isacc's voice. But for reals it is doable. Just stock up on health packs and stasis. I used the plasma cutter and pulse rifle, and ended the game with too many power nodes after upgrading everything. If you have any of the DLC's use the detonator for infinite cash. Happy hunting!

The easiest way to get this one is by playing through the first disk(xbox came in two disks) with out saving, conserving your ammo and upgrading your RIG and Pulse rifle. then when you get to the second disk if you die it will start you back from the second disk, which i think is like chapter 7.... i could be wrong. anyways that's what i did to get this achievement. good luck to all of you who are trying to get this one. hope this helps.

How is he the best dead space player? Just because he has a video on youtube and others don't? Oh please!
Your not using your brain! There is a stasis module the room (it gives you "infinite" stasis recharges) so why not use that to your advantage? If you can't even figure that out then you really are doomed.
To all folks looking to get this achievement I can truly say it is "easy". I've done on both the ps3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The idea is to get to know the game really well and figure out where to strategically save. My advice is that the better you are at the game then the later you will want to do your first save. I did my first save on Chapter 5 (before the Tormentor boss battle). My second save was at around Chapter 9 and my third at Chapter 13.

FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC did this as my 5th playthrough and still had a raised heartbeat knowing that one bad room could end it all.
Did a Survivalist 1st Round dry run beforehand and staggered my saves so I could replay all the tough rooms again, perfecting them before doing this for realz.
If you plant your first save as deep into the game a possible then the rest of it is a sinch, knowing a death will only set you back 30-90 mins instead of a few hours. Maybe I'll do another one and blow all my saves early, y'know, for the thrill.
Lots of people are suggesting using only one weapon the whole game, but I had 3 fully noded as well as my Suit (HP and TK) and Stasis and no shortage of ammo by the game's end. Very thorough playthrough, picking up every Power Node laying around, back tracking

....to Stores and Benchs to clean out my inventory and upgrade ASAP and spending most of my money on Power Nodes too.
Skipped the Security Suit, just put a couple of Medikits in the safe to have space in your inventory.
You can skip the schematics and you'll still get those weapons/ammo about a chapter or two later.
You'll have more Stasis than you'll know what to do with so use it all the time, it really is a life saver.
Also this is one of the greatest Achievement threads ever and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Got this achievment a while ago, a great challenge but frustrating a couple tips though
1- stick to 2 guns max you recieve ammo drops for what you carry, it helps you keep track of how much ammo you have so stick to what you need
2- If your playing on xbox you get a checkpoint when you switch disk, use it
3- don`t use Flamethrower, the ripper, javelin, or the contact beam they`ll get you killed
4- memorize spawns, windows, and explosives
5- plasma cutter and pulse gun provide the best chance in my opinon until you get the force gun, force gun keeps necros at a distance
Other then that the rest is pretty obvious space your saves and beware the eye poke machine!!!!!!!!! Your nerves at that point will cause you to kill yourself, I know i did......... twice :(

Anyways, in my run i mainly used the plasma cutter and the ripper. liker most people have said the plasma cutter is a great weapon to use in most scenarios, except in close quarters when you are surrounded by many enemies.
Here is where the reaper shines, if u upgrade it well enough and with a little bit of skill it can kill 2-3 necros with a single blade, making it very efficient.
I recommend playing through the game twice (i played it on survivor then zealot before hard core) to get a good feel for the game and to avoid being surprised by anything that might potentially kill you. As you play through on the lower difficulties remember which parts gave u

the most difficulty, so i highly recommend replaying the checkpoint until u can do it with as little damage taken/ammo wasted as possible. also dont be afraid to run past some parts if u see u can do it (chapter 13 catwalks im looking at u).
hope these tips help and best of luck
ps: on my first hardcore run i found the supernova dlc helped out a lot, especially the forged engineer suit

Real fast and I know I'm a bit late to the punch probably, but does anyone know when you start a new hardcore game if you can use other suits you've unlocked in the game, like arctic security, patrol or riot security? Have all 3, and am wondering if it's possible to get one early one to get a bit of help to start. Thanks!

Done: I got the achievement. Draxxus98 from comment #72 is right, plasma cutter and pulse rifle are a good combination. Three saves: one, fully upgraded stasis; two, fully upgraded rig; three, fully upgraded plasma cutter and pulse rifle. You don't have to save the same way I did, but this way if you die you don't have to upgrade your equipment after a save.
Stalkers: find a place where you can see all in one direction, use stasis when they charge, unless you can TK them with sharp, pointy things.
Tormentor: pace your shots. It will kill you faster if you miss your shots more than if you aim them.

*pissed off rant time* ok so im playing dead space 2 right? and ive played through the other campaigns multiple times so im doing pretty good on hardcore. i get to chapter 2, walk across that moving walkway and open the door, see a save point but skip it because i was planning on saving on chapter 4. I see all the people getting f'd up and i go the elevator, im going down, the door opens and i see the guy get messed up, the dead girlfriend is in the corner of the elevator, then FOR SOME REASON!!! my guy likes drops into a black abyss, Literally all black nothing in sight, my guy keeps falling for a couple seconds then BOOM im dead, Like wtf? i die because of a stupid ass glitch? bs, they should just give me the achievement now because i was going to f that sh*t up

Man, I thought I wasn't gonna do this one, so I've been slowly pounding through Zealot (I'm at ~9 hours at Chapter 13, so I'm slower than most). The main issue I have is I make a lot of stupid mistakes. Not healing despite having lots of med packs, walking into those little land mine type enemies (the stationary ones that are obvious if you go slow and are not an idiot).
I might try and do Chapters 1-6 tonight and make a save there. Next time I'll get to the swap and try to make it to 10 or 11, save then use my final one somewhere later on. The issue I think I'll face is that I'll push it and push it and push it until I end up with no save point and a death late on in the game.
I don't know why I'm going to do this, but I am suddenly determined. I usually don't mind missing an achiev

This has probably been one of the most difficult achievements for me thus far. It's never the combat that I find difficult, just certain parts like the flight portion after the solar array and the rotating laser before the eye machine, which I just killed myself on. I wasted my last save on Ch10 and I'm seriously thinking about replaying the game from the beginning so I can have a save before before the rotating laser/eye machine.

This achievement is made easier using the duplicate nodes glitch found at http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=375033 this allows you to upgrade your weapons, rig etc but I recommend only using 2 weapons. I used the plasma cutter and force gun but carrying 3-4 will make ammo supplies dwindle!!

Just finished it. I used my saves in chapter 6, chapter 10 before the long hallway with 2 brutes and chapter 13 after the necromorps' assault. Died 4 times, 2 times from unlucky decompression (my shots missed the button), the other 2 times from black slasher, both times one-shotted with almost full health.
Done this in 2 sittings. All you need is plasma cutter and Contact beam. Force gun is completely useless comparing to contact beam. Beam's fully upgraded alt fire works perfectly in most thrilling moments (surrounded by enemies, drill ride, chased by Ubermorph etc). 1 shot with altfire destroys any regular necro in few meters around tou, 2 shots for any black necro. Just pay attention to ammo you have, need a lot of it for last 2 chapters.

Dinked around in Skyrim, as it happened. Maybe after a little rage. But then I drank a bit of bourbon, and it gave me wings (suck it, red bull). Sat down today and perfected the damn game. It's a great game, so I won't be a fool and say that you have to use the same loadout I did, but the plasma cutter carried me till I got the contact beam, and the contact beam put paid to the final boss with ease.

After one year of neglecting this achievement, I' m almost about to beat it.
Never used the contact beam before, but I gotta admit it is REALLY helpful. Upgrade the secondary fire path until you get the stasis attachment and see those necros fly! You don' t even have to aim. Just wait 'til they get near and boom!
If you use it along just one other weapon (Plasma Cutter), you' ll be getting a lot of "spare" ammunition, which you can sell for health (contact beam ammo sells very expensive).
All close encounters, like the decontamination room on the Ishimura, the elevator ride and the drill sequence were just a case of pressing RB whenever something spawned.
Saved before the church, the solar array and the drill. Upgraded Rig, Plasma Cutter and Stasis module equally, then contac

@352: Bullshit. This is a game that takes AT THE VERY LEAST. Ten hours to get through on casual, not ti mention how long Zealot would take. AND THEN beyond that: hardcore? In two days, finishing with enough time to post it at 10 AM EST. bullshit. Even if you didn't die a single time (which we all know you did) it's impossible given the amount of time you had to play it (at the most 34 hours, and that's if you started at 12AM the day before and didn't sleep a wink). Why come on here and lie about shit like that?
Anyway, guys, for those still trying to do this, I recently had to repurchase DS2 because a "friend" stole my last copy before disappearing like an ex-girlfriend and I had to re-get all the achievements over again. Working on my Zealot playthrough now (so easy w/ foam finger gun),

but here's how I did hardcore: I used Plasma Cutter and Force Gun. DLC. It's not expensive and it gives you free guns and suits. Don't get more than PC and Force Gun though because the game will give you ammo for guns you own even if they're in the safe and ammo is scarce enough as it is. EXPLORE. Don't be a girl. By the time I reached the first bench, I had six power nodes just from going in rooms I didn't need to go in. WATCH OUT FOR DEAD BODIES. Nothing will runner your day faster than a necro playing dead. It's better to spend a Plasma Cutter round on ensuring the body's dead than having to start over because he chopped you in half when you least expected it. CALM YOUR NERVES. It's not THAT hard, compared to zealot. If you find yourself getting nervous about a part you think you know i

is going to be hard, pause the game and take a break (go to the bathroom, get some food, watch videos of fat people falling down on YouTube or stand-up comedy from your favorite comedian for a good laugh, anything to take the edge off, BUT DON'T DO DRUGS, last thing you need is to have your senses operating at half capacity, and DON'T GO OUTSIDE WHEN THE SUN'S OUT, I made the mistake of going for a swim during one of my breaks and when I came back, I couldn't see shit). PLAY IN THE DARK AND TURN GAME BRIGHTNESS ALL THE WAY UP. Serious, I could see so much better when I did this. SAVING. Here's where I saved and it contradicts everything you've heard but it worked for me: I kept dying on the train because I was far and nerves got the best of me and I got REALLY tired of the opening cutscene

Friday, March 28, 2014 @ 02:29:44 PM
so I used my first save at the first point in Chapter 2 after I got my suit, my guns, and put 6 nodes on my Force Gun. That way if I died, I had all my shit and I didn't have to replay the opening, and it took the nerves WAY off for everything. The further you go without saving, the more you dred the opening cutscene and running around without all your shit. From there, I went all the way to the disc change, then I saved at the beginning of 11 and before the eye poker in 13. EMBRACE THE CRAZY LIKE STROSS AND TALK TO YOURSELF. This tip comes from DreamDevice. Narrate what you do, shit talk to the necros you're slaying, anything, just talk. It's insanely helpful in staying focused and calm and has the added benefit of humoring anyone who decides to watch you (surprisingly, it's easier to shi

shit talk in front of people than not). And lastly: try to convince that someone you have a crush on (or your significant other) to watch you play it. You might say "WTF, why?" and for two reasons: A) you'll want to impress them so you'll focus more and be ten-fold better at not dying. B) having them around will keep you from completely losing your shit should you die 4-5 chapters from your last save. It also could have the added benefit of being a romantic catalyst. People like to laugh and if your shit talking is as funny as mine apparently was (it will be) you'll have them in the floor laughing. That's about all I can think of. I finished this last night and it was a real challenge worthy of an achievement. Good luck and let me know if this helps you!
