Introduction
You can start the game on any difficulty you want. You must complete it once to unlock other modes. You will need to make sure you gain all of the various collectibles, as there are quite a lot. The nice thing about this game is you can hit whenever you want and see what collectibles you need in that specific level, or even look at the achievements section which tracks the stats needed to unlock them. You can do this from the main menu too. This game does have co-op and you will need someone to play with in order to gain certain achievements. This is drop in drop out type, so you can have people help you in certain situations if needed. You will need a co-op partner for certain side missions which have their own collectibles in them too. The game does not save your stats if you die. You cannot just keep getting a headshot on a soldier for example, and then let yourself die to repeat gaining stats on the same enemy. You must hit a checkpoint while you move on for the stats to save. The game has 19 chapters that you must complete. You can replay them if you want from the main menu, so it will be easy to grab collectibles if you missed a few. Make sure you always save and quit.

Note: When you start different modes, you will get a separate save file for them. You will not overwrite your existing save.

Collectibles: These do not carry over from save to save. You will have to do these in one playthrough. Do this on your first playthrough on normal mode (casual is best to make it easier for you).

Playthrough 1: Any difficulty
You can tackle your first playthrough however you'd like. Easy and with a co-op partner? Your choice. Impossible by yourself? Good luck. I advise you just take the easy route and destroy everything in your path while gaining all collectibles and doing all side missions. You'll have three more playthroughs to provide "challenge" if that's what you seek.

Playthrough 2: Classic
This is automatically on Hard Mode. You can only use weapons from blueprints. Aiming is slightly different. This is supposed to be like Dead Space 1's way of doing things. You cannot play this mode in Co-Op. If you happen to have DLC weapons, they do carry over (like the limited edition ones). If you have them, this makes this mode a lot easier! Also, this is a different save file. Your collectibles won't stack, and you will not have any of the resources you earned from the previous game.

Devil Horns: You will earn this weapon after beating classic mode. It's basically one shot kills and has a ton of ammo (it would be hard to run out). To play using this on Pure Survival, you will need to delete your cache and play offline so that you get the blueprints on your save file. Afterwards you can update and start playing online again.

Playthrough 3: Pure Survival
This is automatically on Hard Mode. You do not get drops from enemies in the form of ammo and health. You must craft all your own stuff. You can play this in Co-Op mode. Using the "trick" above about Devil Horns will make this an extremely easy playthrough since you will not have to worry about ammo as much and will kill things in a single shot. Normally in other modes, during the first chapter you will see an offline bench. In this specific playthrough, it is online and you can get the weapon from the safe. If you have a friend in the game it helps a lot, especially if they also have the Devil Horns. This should be your quickest playthrough.

Playthrough 4: Hardcore
This is automatically on Hard Mode. If you die, you will start your whole game over. You can quit out and have checkpoints like normal, but a death will reset you. You can make this easy by just having a backup save on your USB or Cloud. Keep switching the saves around and if you die, load the one that isn't at the start of the game and make a copy of it. Continue this route until you beat the game. Not as tough as Dead Space 2. Having the Devil Horns will really help you out here.

Co-Op
There are a few side missions that have collectibles that you must have an online partner to complete. There are also a few "partner" related achievements you must gain as well. Check the guide for the details, but they are very straight forward. A word of warning, when playing in Co-Op a lot of times you will lose certain achievement progress after quitting out. Gaining certain types of kills may vanish next time you start up. The save system is not very forgiving.

Conclusion
Having to play the game four times with variations of difficulty in each mode can create some worry. The fact that there are well over 200 collectibles will also discourage some. Most of the collectibles are extremely easy to find and following a guide will make it much easier. Chapter select and drop in Co-Op is a very nice addition to this game. The best advice is to play all four playthroughs back to back. This will give you a huge advantage by the time you hit hardcore because you will be very familiar with everything.

There are 58 achievements with a total of 1250 points

  • Complete the game on any difficulty setting.

There are 4 difficulty modes to choose from.

    • Casual
    • Normal
    • Hard
    • Impossible

You can play on any difficulty to get this. There are no "difficulty" related achievements. There are, however, "Mode" related achievements. You will have to play Hardcore Mode, Classic Mode, and Pure Survival Mode. See the related achievements for more descriptions on how to complete them. These different modes are set to the Hard difficulty setting automatically.

  • Complete all optional missions.

Within the game there are optional missions you can complete. Complete them all for the achievement. Not every chapter has them. There are a total of 10 missions, 3 of them which are optional. You can choose to play the optional missions in chapter select if you have a second person in your party. The missions usually consist of getting to a container with parts and circuits.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • Complete the game on Hardcore Mode.

Hardcore Mode is unlocked after completing the game on any difficulty. This is default at Hard difficulty mode. You cannot die. Checkpoints are active, but once death occurs, you will have to start over. Your best bet is to make a backup save, and every so often save to it just in case. This makes it not so "hardcore" but if you want the achievement without hassle, this might be your ticket.

  • Complete the game in Classic Mode.

You must first complete the game on any difficulty to unlock this mode. The mode is set to hard difficulty. You cannot have a co-op partner with you during this mode. Your aiming will be set to what it was like in Dead Space 1. You cannot craft weapons like before, you will be forced to only go off of blueprints.

  • Complete the game in Pure Survival Mode.

You must first complete the game on any difficulty to unlock this mode. The mode is set to hard difficulty. Pure Survival Mode makes you create all of your own resources. You cannot just buy a med kit anymore, you must craft one from resources found in the environment. Enemies will not drop ammo. You also must craft them yourself.

  • Collect all Weapon Parts.

There are a lot of parts for each of the various weapons. You will want to follow a guide to get them all. You can check the stats in your progress and unlocks screen from the pause menu.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • Collect all Artifacts.

There are a total of 41 artifacts you must collect in order to gain this achievement. There are different types of artifacts. They include Alien, Unitology, EarthGov, and S.C.A.F. You will want to follow a guide to get them all. You can check the stats in your progress and unlocks screen from the pause menu.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • Collect all Logs.

Logs are voice memos and text logs. They are bright displays that you can press "play" on using . There are a total of 71 logs. Follow the guide below to see all locations. You can check the stats in your progress and unlocks screen from the pause menu.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • Collect all Circuits.

These circuits are basically upgrades to your weapons. You will want to follow a guide to get them all. You can check the stats in your progress and unlocks screen from the pause menu.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • You must accept an optional request and go to the Reaper Barracks. There is a giant pump with spikes. It's the first one you get to. Slow it down and move through it. When you get out, turn around and slow it again so you can look behind it where Peng is. Use kinesis to grab it.

  • Retrieve Resources from a Scavenger Bot at a Bench.

You will obtain the Scavenger Bot in Chapter 5. There will be a quick tutorial on how to use them. Basically you equip it like a weapon (it fills the top slot). There is a scanner. Whenever you get to an area where there are full circles around the middle, you'll know it's a great place to drop the bot to gather resources. You cannot pick up the bot after putting it down. To put it down, aim and fire as if you had a gun. After a certain time limit, it will appear at any work bench you go to. Once you reach a bench, open it to retrieve the resources.

  • Successfully deploy Scavenger Bots to 15 Resource Areas.

As seen above, you can have Scavenger Bots go looking for resources for you. Send them to 15 areas to do this for the achievement. Find the areas where it's best to put them. To do this, press and you will have a radar. Follow it and you will get to where the circles are all around the middle (instead of pointing you in a direction). Hold and press to deploy the bot. Your stats increase when the bot is put down on the ground. You cannot continue to deploy the bot in the same area to get the achievement, they must be unique. You must wait 10 minutes for the bot to show up at a workbench so that you can use it again. If you hear a beeping sound as you walk around, it is the game hinting a good area is nearby.

  • Craft a Weapon.

You can craft weapons at a workbench. Go into Weapon Crafting and choose to craft a new one. There are various steps you must follow to add components that the game asks you for. This will include the frame, upper and lower tools, optional attachments, and optional circuit upgrades. This will be one of your first achievements, as you can even just "edit" ones you have.

  • Add a Circuit to a Weapon.

Circuits are weapon improvements. There are both lower and upper upgrades (total of 8 slots). You can access this menu in two ways. You can find it in the Weapon Crafting under "Upgrade Circuits", or you can easily just go to Weapon Upgrades to find it. You need resources in order to craft and use these. Select the weapon and you will see the circuit menu. Choose an empty slot and choose which type you would like to add. If you must create one, pick a type and choose to construct a new circuit. You may craft what you want, as long as you have the available resources (the game tells you what you need). There are four types you can choose from.

    • Reload
    • Rate of Fire
    • Damage
    • Clip

  • EMT

    25

    Craft a Large Med Pack.

  • Craft a Weapon with 2 Tools, Tips, and Attachments with all Circuit slots filled.

At your work bench, you must craft a weapon so that every available slot has something in it. There are a total of 15 things that need to be filled. You cannot have just "default" parts. You must choose or craft.

    • Upper Tool and Upper Tool Tip
    • Lower Tool and Lower Tool Tip
    • Frame
    • Attachment 1 and Attachment 2
    • Circuits (8)

  • Fully upgrade your RIG.

The RIG is the suit that you wear. There are 3 main things you can upgrade, with a total of 8 categories. You can upgrade your RIG once you find the upgrade stations in the game.

    1. RIG: Hit Points, Air, and Armor
    2. Stasis: Energy, Durability, and Recharge
    3. Kinesis: Damage and Range

Each type actually requires different types of resources. To fully upgrade the RIG, you will need the following types. Some will be harder to find than others. You can break down/sell things at the bench to earn resources if you are in need. You can use scavenger bots as well as finding them around the environment and by killing enemies.

    • Scrap Metal:
    • Somatic Gel
    • Transducer
    • Tungsten
    • Semiconductor

The game shows you exactly how much you need for each upgrade and how much you actually have. Amounts may depend on difficulty.

  • Create a Blueprint that needs at least 2000 resources worth of parts and Circuits to build.

You will need to create a Blueprint at the Workbench. While crafting/upgrading a gun, you have the option of pressing to create a Blueprint. This will automatically put them in the Blueprints section of the menu within the Workbench. This may actually go along with the "Full House" achievement if you were heavy on your upgrades. This can be more trial and error since you can't actually see how much the Blueprint is worth in total resources until you craft it. Just make as much upgrades as possible and create the Blueprint. Go to see how many resources it took, then reload the game and either try again, or wait until you can create more expensive parts.

Note: If you have the limited edition or obtained certain pre-order bonuses, the weapons given as a bonus may be worth well over 2000 and you can easily make a blueprint out of it to gain the achievement very early on in the game.

  • Save your Co-Op partner from an execution by killing the attacker.

While playing in Co-Op, sometimes enemies will grab a hold of you or your partner. You must kill the enemy before the playing being attacked dies or does the button prompts. Shoot the enemy and when it dies, you will get the achievement. There are many enemy types that do an execution.

  • Use the RIG to give an item to your Co-Op partner.

Open up your inventory menu. Where you normally can drop or use an item, you should see the option to "give" it. Pick any item and as long as your partner's inventory isn't full, you may give it to them for the achievement.

  • Medic!

    10

Revive your Co-Op partner 10 times.

When your Co-Op partner is downed, revive them ten times. This does not have to be the same partner (drop in, drop out is fine). This might not come naturally if playing on Easy and both you and your partner are killing enemies quickly. If you want to get it fast, just have your partner keep getting downed and revive them.

  • Face all of Carver’s demons by completing all Co-Op only optional missions.

Carver is the Co-Op character available in this game. You must complete all of his optional missions to uncover more about him. There are only a total of 3 missions. You will want to follow a guide to get them all. You can check the stats in your progress and unlocks screen from the pause menu.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • Share a Blueprint with your Co-Op partner.

You must be in a Co-Op game in order to obtain this achievement. Go to a Workbench and to the Blueprints menu. Scroll down to your custom Blueprints (you must have created one first in Weapon Crafting). Highlight one and press to share it. Only custom Blueprints you have created will work. Anything from DLC, promotions, blueprints, or in-game rewards will not allow you to share. You do not waste resources or lose anything by sharing the Blueprints with another person in your game.

  • Kill 30 enemies using Fodder axes.

Fodder axes are weapons some enemies will be carrying. The enemies are called "wasters". They can also be carrying wrenches later on in the game which still count towards the achievement. To kill enemies with dropped weapons, you must use kinesis on the weapon by holding and pressing . Aim it at an enemy and press to throw it. The absolute best method is to shoot off an arm of this enemy, grab the axe/wrench, and shoot it at their legs. This will not work if the enemy transforms. If you kinesis an axe or wrench and throw it, then you will not be able to pick it up again. If an enemy transforms, the weapons will vanish.

    Easy Grinding
The best possible spot to grab this is Chapter 14. You have an optional mission called Disposal Services. Almost the entire mission has these enemies and there aren't a lot that are morphing. You can just keep replaying this area if you want. Even the starting area has around 4 or 5 of the enemies.

  • Kill a Soldier by TK'ing a grenade or rocket back at them.

When a human soldier throws a grenade or shoots a rocket at you, you will have to use telekinesis on the explosive and throw it back to kill them. Telekinesis (TK) is the Kinesis power on your RIG. To use the power, hold , press to grab an object, and then face the solider and press to throw it back at the enemy. This achievement can be gained in Chapter 10 and beyond when facing soldiers. The video below is a great spot to gain it. This is right after getting off an elevator, the enemies will automatically throw a grenade at you.

  • Dismember 500 limbs from living enemies.

See the And Then We Doubled It! achievement description.

  • Dismember 1000 limbs from living enemies.

Shoot off the limbs of enemies. A lot of what Dead Space is all about is taking out the enemies limb by limb until they die. Starting with the legs to slow them down (if they have them). You will play casually getting these. There are a few good places to grind these, but it is not needed. This stat tracks over all saves, therefore you will likely get this sometime in your second playthrough.

  • Kill 50 enemies while they are in stasis.

To use stasis, you must hold and press . The enemy will go into a slowed state and will be much easier to kill. Stasis does refill over time and as you upgrade your RIG's stasis abilities it will last longer and be able to be used more frequently. You will know the enemy is in stasis because it will be blue. This should be something you use commonly throughout the entire game.

  • Kill 30 enemies with explosion damage.

There are a few ways to cause explosion damage. An obvious way is to use kinesis to throw a grenade or rocket back at an enemy. Another way is to actually craft a weapon that causes explosive damage and use that as your gun to gain this achievement. Crafting a weapon is your best option. There are various tips you can use while crafting an item to cause the explosive damage (mines, grenades, etc). Focus on getting this and it will come quickly.

  • Kill 30 Soldiers with head shots.

The soldiers are the human enemies. You see them early on in the game and eventually more later on. You can get one shot kills by shooting them in the head, or shoot them in the head a few times to weaken them. As long as the last shot blows their head off, it will count.

  • Kill 30 enemies using melee strikes or a melee Weapon Part.

This is very straightforward. You do not have to be out of ammo. This is actually a good way to conserve ammo. Just press without aiming to do a melee strike. Sometimes you will shoot an enemies legs off and be able to go finish it by stomping it.

  • Dissolve 50 enemies with acid.

To do this, you must have the Acid Bath weapon part. This part is found in Chapter 11 in the optional quest "Armory". You must get to the end and open the container with the rewards. Attach this to your weapon at a workbench. When you shoot enemies, they will start burning from acid. You can get this over time throughout your playthrough. If you want to get it all done at once, you can play the Co-Op mission in Chapter 14 while playing as Carver. At the final nightmare you will get to the end where you have to destroy the symbol in front of you. Instead, stay next to it and shoot the frail feeder shadows. Move forward to respawn some. They will sometimes stop running at you when in certain spots around the symbol making it pretty easy to maintain your kills. Just be warned, that in Co-Op play, your stats will often reset if you die or quit out.

  • Kill 30 enemies using an electrified Ripper blade.

This is something you must craft. You will need a rip core and the electric charge attachment. Make sure to fill all circuits in. Once created, go ahead and start using it to kill enemies.

  • Use quick heal to heal yourself 20 times.

Quick heal is very helpful when you are low on health. Just press to do a quick heal. Do this, of course, while out of aim mode. It should be the only button you press. You can only heal if you have health missing and have health packs in stock.

Secret achievements

  • Complete the Prologue.

    Story related, can't be missed.

This is the first mission in the game.

  • Survive your first spacewalk.

    Story related, can't be missed.

You'll get this when you complete a spacewalk. You are limited on oxygen.

  • Recover the shuttle.

    Story related, can't be missed.

This will come along as you play, nothing to really worry about.

  • Reach Tau Volantis.

    Story related, can't be missed.

You'll get this upon reaching the planet.

  • Defeat the Hive Mind.

    Story related, can't be missed.

You have to use the Probe Gun that you assemble as part of the mission. Go through and shoot the things above and around you that look like they are creatures. If you get attacked by enemies you know you shot the right one. Do this a couple times and you'll get the achievement.

  • Hydra

    15

    Kill the Snowbeast.

    Story related, can't be missed.

You'll fight this enemy a third time, but now you must just run to a harpoon and run the generator. Lead the beast to the designated trap and you'll finally rid the monster from existence.

  • Reassemble Rosetta.

    Story related, can't be missed.

This is a very simple puzzle in the story. There are samples you must piece together. Just start with the ends where there is no muscle/tissue exposed. Now piece them together like a puzzle matching the parts where the body is cut off.

  • Reach the Alien Machine.

    Story related, can't be missed.

You'll get this near the end of Chapter 18.

  • Defeat the Moon.

    Story related, can't be missed.

This is the last boss in the game. It's actually a fairly easy fight.

  • Shoot the deer head trophy in the Admiral's Quarters.

You will have an objective to get to the Admiral's Quarters. This trophy (the deer head) is located just outside of the elevator, before actually going into the room with the body. Shoot the head and it will fall down.

  • Shoot at least 70 targets during the ride to Tau Volantis.

While using the guns on the ship, shoot down 70 targets before finishing the trip to the next location. This is at the end of Chapter 7. There aren't many more than 70 total targets. You move the ship somewhat with but to aim your guns, use . Shoot with whenever there are red target squares around the various objects. This can be done solo or with a co-op partner.

  • Hungry

    20

Reach the pump room of the Waystation without alerting any Feeders.

The start of Chapter 9 has you putting a gear in place to ride an elevator down. Once down there, you will open a door to a kitchen where a Feeder enemy will be. It will scamper off. From here on out press to crouch and walk carefully. There are a couple groups of Feeder enemies in the areas next. They cannot see, but they can smell and hear you. Walk slowly and when you see food cans, use kinesis to throw them in another part of the area to distract them. Once you get to the Waystation, you will see a saving icon appear and the achievement will unlock. The amount of time spent sneaking around is really only a couple of minutes. Since it's at the start of the chapter, this becomes extremely easy to do if you missed it.

  • Complete the Drill Room without taking any damage.

    Obtained in Chapter 10

During this chapter you will reach the Drill Site. To gain this achievement you will have to do the entire section without getting hit by any enemies. If you do, you must save and quit to try again. If you have a Co-Op partner, that person will not get the achievement and you will have more enemies to fight. There are 3 phases for this section. Some people have reported making perfect runs but not getting the achievement. It is said the fix is to get injured on purpose, then save and quit. You can choose to do this achievement when you get here, or via chapter select later when you have better guns (or overpowered ones). The nice thing about retrying this area is you keep all items and resources after saving and quitting. This can with the resources fairly well.

Phase 1: Release the drill. Stand by the stasis refill station by the drill. When the drill comes out, stasis it and focus killing the enemies across from you coming out of the vent. When it seems that have time, stasis the drill again and shoot the yellow canisters in the top middle. Now focus on killing any enemies still alive.

Phase 2: In this phase, you will have to worry about enemies coming from other vents as well. Try your best to keep the crowd under control, and when it seems you have time, stasis the drill and shoot the yellow canisters again. This is probably going to be the hardest phase.

Phase 3: Now is the easiest phase of all. When the drill comes down again, wait a little then stasis it. Shoot the top middle again. All enemies that were once around (feeders) will now vanish. Make your way to the elevator door and the achievement should unlock.

Alternate Method: It has been confirmed by some, that if you get hit, you can run into the drill to die. After each phase, you will get a mini checkpoint and be able to make this achievement a little bit easier.

  • Kill 5 Cysts in the Biology Building with a single poison gas cloud.

    Obtained in Chapter 14

This is shortly after starting. You will get a key after meeting up with other characters and access the biology area. There are enemies called Cysts on the ground and on the walls. There are exactly five of them. This is the only spot you can gain this achievement. Walk in and stais #1 on the ground. Run forward and turn around to catch the bomb and throw it with kinesis. If you don't, the plant will die. If this happens you can restart your checkpoint. Do the same with #2. You will see #3 on the wall. You should stasis it, but do not worry about the bomb as it won't hurt it. Stasis #4 and grab the bomb as well. When you start getting around the corner you will see #5 on the wall. Again, just stasis and run. Go down the lift and kill the enemies. Do the puzzle to get things working again. Return up the lift, kill any enemies that attack. This is important because once you turn on the gas, the enemies will run down the hallway triggers the bombs and killing the plants. Use the computer to kill the plants with the gas, and you will unlock the achievement.

  • Aliens

    15

    Collect all Alien Artifacts.

You will obtain this while going for all other artifacts. There are 10 total alien artifacts and you can view what chapters they are in by going to the progress menu.

Click HERE for a guide containing all collectibles and side mission details.

  • Kill 10 alien Necromorphs.

During the later chapters of the game, you will face a new type of Necromorph. Instead of humans, they are aliens. They are tougher and you will find it easier to stasis them and use heavy weapons. You should be able to get this by normally playing through the game, as there are plenty.

DLC: Awakened

There are 8 achievements with a total of 250 points

  • Complete Dead Space™ 3 Awakened in Pure Survival Mode.

Start your game and choose the file you have "Pure Survival" on. If you have not played Pure Survival you will have to start a new save with that mode enabled. Choose Solo Campaign and then choose to play downloaded content.

I would highly suggest you play through the game on Pure Survival first so that you can benefit from your upgrades and weapons. Everything carries over. If you have the Devil Horns be prepared for an extremely easy playthrough. Check through the regular guide's roadmap to see more info about the Devil Horns.

  • Awakened: Craft a weapon using a MK-II Weapon Tip.

If you have beat Dead Space 3 in Classic Mode, you will obtain MK-II tips. This could be your first achievement. All you have to do is go to a bench and apply it to any weapon it's available on (upper or lower tip).

If you have not beat Dead Space 3, you will not be able to obtain this in Pure Survival Mode. You will have to play the game on normal mode. There are two doors you need a torque bar for, so make sure you have the resources to make at least one. The second room requiring the torque bar has a tip in it.

  • Awakened: Stasis your Co-Op partner when he is downed to slow his bleed out timer.

This must be done in Co-Op Mode. When your partner gets downed, use stasis on him/her. To do this, hold to aim at your partner, then press to stasis (as long as you have energy). This is the only achievement in the game that requires a second person to be in your game online.

  • Awakened: Finish charging the reactor in under 90 seconds.

You will activate zero gravity and see a reactor in the middle. It starts spinning. This is similar to the drill from the main game in which you must use stasis to slow it down, and then destroy the middle parts. There are valves you can spin on the side to release a type of bomb. Release it and stasis the reactor. Now kinesis and throw the bomb when the the reactor part is showing (the weak point in the middle). This will release a portion of the bottom to rise up and you must shoot it. If you are quick you only have to do this twice. Having a second person can help make this a lot faster.
