Welcome to Dead Space: Ignition. It is an interactive comic that challenges you to survive the initial Necromorph outbreak that occurs on the Sprawl, a space station that serves as the setting for Dead Space 2. You'll be engaged in 3 different mini-games: Trace Route, System Override and Hardware Crack. Some of these mini-games are rather easy, others can be challenging, especially as you progress through the story.

You will need at least 4 playthroughs if you aim for 200 on this game. Don't worry, except on your 1st playthrough which can take a bit longer to get familiar to the mini-games, subsequent playthroughs shouldn't take too long (approx. 20-25 minutes).

There are 4 different routes to take. Each route tells a slightly different story of what might have happened on the Sprawl. You can always skip the cut-scenes by pressing  two times. But again, the game tells you a different story, especially on Acts 2 and 3. As for Acts 1 and 4, these are the same regardless of the route you take.

As soon as you do your first hacking mini-game, it will unlock 4 items which you can use in Dead Space 2. These are: an exclusive hacker suite, a hacker-themed contact beam weapon skin, exclusive audio logs, and some power nodes, health packs and credits to give Isaac Clarke an edge during Dead Space 2.

Step 1: First playthrough (offline)
At the main menu, select "Ignition" to start your first playthrough. After a little story introduction, you'll get your first set of mini-games, unlocking the “Trace Element, Stormed to the Core!” and “Laser Burn” achievements. When you get to your first choice of path to take, take whichever route you want (see "Chief Engineer" for more information). On Act 4, your RIG will be fully upgraded unlocking the “Dirty Work!” achievement. After this Act, the game ends unlocking the “Did anyone survive?” achievement.

Step 2: Second playthrough + mini-game (online)
After you've completed your first playthrough, the leaderboard campaign will become available (Thanks CressDX). At the main menu, choose "Leaderboards" and then "Ignition" to start up your 2nd campaign playthrough. Be sure to choose another route this time, different than the one from step 1. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get to the end of this playthrough, but note that your game will not be saved while on this playthrough. You have to do this in one sitting. Once you've successfully completed your 2nd playthrough, the score will be sent to the leaderboards unlocking the “Catch me if you can!” achievement.

Once you are returned to the main menu, choose "leaderboards" and pick any one of the mini-games. You just need to complete one in order to get the “Stop the Clock!” achievement.

Step 3: Third and fourth playthroughs (offline)
At the main menu, start the Ignition campaign again. Be sure to choose other routes than the ones you took in steps 1 and 2. You can also choose to do these playthroughs through the leaderboards, but the advantage of doing these offline, is the autosaving feature after each mini-game. Now that you're familiar with the mini-games, you could aim to finish one of these playthroughs within 25 minutes to unlock the “Ain't got time to bleed!” achievement. Assuming you took a different route on each playthrough, you will unlock “All your Trace are belong to us”, “Infectious”, “Planet Cracker” and “Chief Engineer”.

Step 4: Mop up
In case you didn't manage to unlock the achievement for finishing a playthrough in less than 25 minutes in the previous steps, keep trying! I found that route A had the easiest trace routes and the laser mini-game solutions available in the forum will hopefully help a lot as well.

Overall an easy and not too time consuming 200. It's more to "prepare" you for Dead Space 2 and give you some nice gadgets along the way. Thank you for using this guide and road map.

x360a would like to thank Trikke for this Road Map

Chief Engineer35
Complete all hacks in any single player mode. (3)

Assuming you already got the “Ain't no time to bleed!” achievement, this will be the last achievement you'll unlock.

In order to do so, you'll have to hack ALL Trace Route, System Override and Hardware Crack mini-games on ALL 4 different routes. As soon as you've done the last hack on the 4th route, this achievement will pop. The routes are:

  • Route A: Act 1 (Start) -> Act 2A (Lighting Failure) -> Act 3A (Direct Route) -> Act 4
  • Route B: Act 1 (Start) -> Act 2A (Lighting Failure) -> Act 3B (Cross the Rim) -> Act 4
  • Route C: Act 1 (Start) -> Act 2B (Hostage Situation) -> Act 3C (Spacewalk) -> Act 4
  • Route D: Act 1 (Start) -> Act 2B (Hostage Situation) -> Act 3D (Interior Route) -> Act 4
Catch me if you can!20
Complete one Ignition mode path through the Leaderboards.

Similar to the “Did anyone survive?” achievement except this has to be done through the leaderboards. At the main menu, choose "Leaderboards", then "Ignition" and press  to start the story/campaign. Once you've successfully finished one of the routes A, B, C or D, your time will be sent to the leaderboards unlocking this achievement.

Note: This has to be done in one sitting! You cannot quit in the middle of the game and continue where you left off earlier. The game doesn't autosave after a completed mini-game! Of course you can pause the game and continue later on if you leave your console turned on.

Did anyone survive?20
Complete Ignition Mode.

You'll get this achievement as soon as you've finished your first playthrough in Ignition mode, regardless of the chosen path. For more information about the possible paths, check the “Chief Engineer“ achievement description.

Dirty Work!10
Unlock the level 4 engineering RIG.

I wouldn't worry too much about this achievement, as you'll automatically get it before the end of your first playthrough. While playing Ignition mode, whether it be single player or through the leaderboards, your RIG will be upgraded each time you come to a new Act. You will receive a final upgrade at the end of your playthrough. These upgrades will affect the number of different power-ups (i.e. tools such as firewalls, reflectors, etc.) you can carry for the mini-games. Once it is fully upgraded, it'll be easier to do these mini-games, making it easier as well to get the “Ain't no time to bleed!” achievement.

Stop the Clock!5
Successfully complete any hack on the Leaderboards.

At the main menu, select "Leaderboards" and you'll find 4 game types:

  • Ignition (campaign)
  • Trace Route (hacking mini-game)
  • System Override (hacking mini-game)
  • Hardware Crack (hacking mini-game)

All you need to do is play just one of the hacking mini-games. After you've completed one of them successfully, your score will be sent to the leaderboards unlocking this achievement at the same time.

Ain’t got time to bleed! 20
Successfully complete Ignition mode within 25 minutes by any route (excluding movies). (9)

In order to unlock this achievement, you'll have to successfully finish one playthrough in less than 25 minutes choosing one of the four possible paths. Refer to the “Chief Engineer” achievement description for the possible routes to take. This can be offline or through the leaderboards. These 25 minutes only count down for the time spent on the mini-games and do not include the cut-scenes. That's a relief!

Make good use of the Hardware Crack puzzle solutions found in this thread or this thread. They will help to speed up these specific laser mini-games so that you'll have more time to spend on the Trace Route and System Override mini-games. Having your RIG fully upgraded (after your 1st playthrough) will help a lot! You can also press  to pause the game if need to be. Getting this achievement shouldn't be too difficult and there is a good chance you'll have it before finishing your 4th playthrough.

Trace Element15
Successfully complete a Trace Route hack in any single player mode.

See “All your Trace are belong to us”.

All your Trace are belong to us15
Successfully complete all Trace Route hacks in any single player mode.

Trace Route is some kind of side scrolling "racing" mini-game, where your goal is navigate your (red) trace from start to finish (i.e. core) before the other (blue) traces do. Unfortunately, you'll come across several obstacles along the way. And as if it isn't already difficult enough, the track rotates after a while so that you'll not only be steering up or down, but will have to steer right or left.

There's no easy way of doing it. You will need some skills, but you also have some tools (speed boost, firewall, control reverse) at your disposal to gain an advantage on the other traces. Make good use of these tools, and try to go through link libraries (i.e. speed boosts). Avoid the DDoS segments (control reverse) at all times; these can be a real pain.

How I did it: When a blue trace was close behind me, I dropped a firewall (press ) to slow it down (especially in narrow places), or a DDoS (press ) to make it confused. When I was almost at the end of the track, I used the speed boosts (press ) to get there 1st. If you fail a few times, try to memorize the path to take as best as you can.

As soon as you finish the first racing mini-game, it will unlock the “Trace Element” achievement. You need to finish ALL Trace Routes on the 4 different routes to unlock “All your Trace are belong to us”.

Stormed the Core!15
Successfully complete a System Override hack in any single player mode.

See “Infectious”.

Successfully complete all System Override hacks in any single player mode.

System Override is some kind of "virus" mini-game, which can be confusing at first. Your goal here is to take control of the system core by sending different kinds of viruses throughout the system, destroying the anti-virus defense mechanisms along the way, and reaching the green port which is the system core. The viruses move along the wall following the system board's pattern.

I got through these mini-games by doing this: first, destroy the weak hexa-cells by sending in a power spike, shortening the path from start to core. Then, I've sent in a few cycler viruses immediately followed by a mix of corruption and slaver viruses. I let the energy recharge, and then I sent in another mix, repeating these steps over and over until I reached the core. I almost never used the spoof viruses.

As soon as you finish the first virus mini-game, it will unlock the ”Stormed the Core!” achievement. You need to finish ALL System Override on the 4 different routes to unlock “Infectious”.

If you need help with the controls, an in game tutorial "How to play" can be accessed at sub-menu "Help & Options".

Laser Burn15
Successfully complete a Hardware Crack in any single player mode.

See “Planet Cracker”.

Planet Cracker15
Successfully complete all Hardware Cracks in any single player mode.

Hardware Crack is a pretty fun "laser" mini-game. The goal is to connect the laser beams to the according receivers matching their respective colors, using a limited amount of different kinds of tools (reflector, projector, chip removal).

If you can't figure out the solution for a specific laser puzzle, check my Hardware Crack videos or II OE II's Hardware Crack maps to find the Hardware Cracks solutions.

As soon as you finish the first laser mini-game, it will unlock the “Laser Burn” achievement.
You need to finish all Hardware Cracks using the 4 different routes to unlock “Planet Cracker”.

If you need help with the controls, an in game tutorial "How to play" can be accessed at sub-menu "Help & Options".
