Introduction
The Devil May Cry HD Collection brings together the first three games in the Devil May Cry series: Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and the special edition of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. There are 99 achievements spread across these three games. Due to the difficulty of Devil May Cry games (specifically in Dante Must Die difficulty), the amount of time it will take for the full 1000 is very relative.
On the collection the games can be played in any order. However, to keep the roadmap simple and organized, I'm ordering the games by their chronological release. If you'd like to play them in order of difficulty to acclimate your skill, play two, then one, then three.
Step 1: DMC: Normal
On your first playthrough make sure you're on normal (don't accept the game's offers to put you on easy automatic mode). In this run your main goals should be gathering all of the collectibles that power Dante up (health, devil gauge, skills). To do that, refer to the blue orbs guide here, the secret missions guide here, and use your red orbs sparingly (don't buy regeneration items and instead focus on skills and health/devil gauge power-ups). Also be sure not to buy any yellow orbs - doing so will void your chance for The Devil Made Me Do It until your next playthrough. With that in mind, simply beat the game. You should earn all of the story-related achievements and a few miscellaneous achievements to boot.
Step 2: DMC: Hard
Since upgrades carry over from normal, hard won't be much more difficult. On this run, if you haven't fully upgraded your character yet you should go for The Secret's Out (for completing all secret missions), Blue Devil (for maxing out your health bar), and The Devil's in the Details (for purchasing all skills). In addition, make sure you get I Read You Like a Book using this guide so you won't have to deal with anything other than surviving on Dante Must Die difficulty.
Step 3: DMC: The Devil Made Me Do It
Take a break from these obscenely hard modes for a little bit and get The Devil Made Me Do It using the guide below. Technically you could do this at any point, but if you have yet to get enough red orbs for all of the upgrades this will be a great opportunity. While on mission two in this playthrough, go for Untouchable as well.
Step 4: DMC: Dante Must Die
Dante Must Die will be unlocked upon completing hard difficulty. This is the hardest difficulty and you'll most likely die a lot. However, with some perseverance you should be able to make it through this mode. If you're having trouble, remember that you can use items to aid you - your rating on this mode is irrelevant and your only goal for this step is to beat the game on Dante Must Die difficulty for Combustible!!!.
Step 5: DMC: Wrap-Up
The only achievements not specifically covered by this roadmap so far are Redemption, Hot As Hell, Thunderstruck, and Smashing Sensation. Redemption requires 50,000 cumulative red orbs. If you don't have it yet, refer to the guide below for some good orb farming spots. Smashing Sensation requires you to receive an overall S rank on a mission. If you don't have this yet, refer to the list in the achievement guide for the requirements and find a mission you think you can achieve this on. Hot As Hell and Thunderstruck require you to hit the S rank win a combo with a specific weapon. Refer to the guide below on a good location for this.
Step 6: DMC2: Normal
You're going to get a break here, because Devil May Cry 2 is the easiest of the three on-disc games. The normal mode is comparable to easy on the other two, so appreciate it while you can. Just run through the game normally as Dante here and buy as many purple/blue orbs and upgrades as you can and complete as many secret missions as you can along the way.
Step 7: DMC2: Barehand Beauty
After beating the game on normal, you'll unlock another playable character: Trish. There's an achievement called Barehand Beauty for beating the game using her. She's a fairly good character, so I recommend playing through with her here. If you decide you like her better than Dante, you can use her for most of the remaining achievements.
Step 8: DMC2: Hard
Just like in the first Devil May Cry game, you're going to be moving up in difficulties here. Try to have as many health/skill/devil trigger upgrades as possible to make this easier. Before you begin the next step, you'll definitely want to have your character of choice fully upgraded. Doing so will earn you Vita Maxima, Magica Maxima, and Caeruleus Diabolus. If your character of choice is Dante, you'll also earn Arms Race and A Hot Knife Through Butter, if your character of choice is Lucia you'll also earn Armed and Dangerous, To the Max, and Take Heart, Lucia. If your character of choice is Trish, there aren't any additional achievements unfortunately. Whichever of these achievements you don't get here you'll go for in step ten.
Step 9: DMC2: Dante Must Die
Dante Must Die difficulty is (again) incredibly difficult. Your only focus here should be surviving. Beating this difficulty will earn you Every Tongue Will Confess.
Step 10: DMC2: Wrap-Up and The Bloody Palace
By this point, you should only have a few achievements left. First, go get all of the achievements from step eight you haven't yet earned using the guide below. If you have yet to get Stylish!, En Vogue, Highest Honor, or The Sky's The Limit go for those here, too. Once that's over, you only have the Bloody Palace mode to worry about. Unfortunately, this also marks the hardest part of Devil May Cry 2. You'll need to pass 9000 floors of the Bloody Palace mode, and then you can be done with the second game. Refer to Over 9000! in the guide below for help.
Step 11: DMC3: Normal
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is the hardest of the three games. Be weary, especially when you start the game with no upgrades. You'll eventually have two save files, but for now start with gold orb mode and normal difficulty. By completing the game here, you'll unlock all of the story-related achievements, the normal difficulty achievement, and a fair amount of random additional achievements.
Step 12: DMC3: The Path Less Traveled/Am I My Brother's Keeper?
For these achievements, you need to beat the game as Vergil and beat the game on yellow orb mode. However, you can't change your character or orb mode in your save file, so you'll need to start a new game. Select Vergil as your character, easy difficulty, and yellow orb mode. Complete the game normally and along the way, try to decide if you like Dante or Vergil better.
Step 13: DMC3: Hard
For hard difficulty, you'll want to prepare a little bit. First, get all of the health/devil trigger upgrades for your preferred character (which will give you the Worst Kept Secret, Left No Stone Unturned, Maximize Your Health, and Give 'em Hell achievements), then start. The enemies are significantly harder to kill, so take some time to figure out what works and what kills you - it'll only get harder from here. If you decide to play as Vergil, I highly recommend starting a new save file with Vergil and gold orb mode - yellow orb mode will quickly begin to frustrate you on these harder difficulties.
Step 14: DMC3: Very Hard and Dante Must Die
Before starting these difficulties, fully upgrade everything. Have maximum health, devil trigger, and every weapon fully upgraded. This will give you the Trend Setter and Big Spender achievements. Now, start very hard difficulty. Finish it and you'll unlock the super character - which means you have infinite devil trigger. Using the super character, complete Dante Must Die difficulty. These will be very hard, and in Dante Must Die the enemies will gain the ability to enter devil trigger. It will take a lot of trial-and-error, planning, and strategy to be skilled enough to beat these modes, so don't get discouraged.
Step 15: DMC3: Heaven and Hell
Once you've beaten Dante Must Die, you'll unlock Heaven and Hell - where everything (including you) dies in one hit. Compared to what you just completed, this should be easy. Just spam your guns and dodge when necessary. Even bosses die quickly, so blow through this and you'll be ready to move on.
Step 16: DMC3: The Bloody Palace
The Bloody Palace in Devil May Cry 3 is pretty much the same as it is in Devil May Cry 2. At the end of each wave, you're given three options: to go up one level and regenerate health, to go up ten levels and regenerate some devil trigger, or to go up one hundred levels and regenerate nothing. For Bloody Hell, you'll need to pass 9999 waves. This won't be an easy task, but since you've beaten Dante Must Die difficulty at this point you should be very good at this game. Refer to Bloody Hell in the guide below for some general advice.
Step 17: DMC3: Hellish Honor/Wrap-Up
Hellish Honor requires you to earn an S-Rank in every single mission on some difficulty. For this, refer to the advice the achievement guide. Generally it's easiest to earn a better rank on easier difficulties, but if you're struggling to reach the S-level, you can try turning up the difficulty to earn more style points (more enemy health means more opportunities to string together combos). From there, the only achievements not covered within this roadmap are To Hell With That and Who's Laughing Now?.If you're missing either of these, refer to the guide below.
Conclusion:
If you've made it this far, you're truly been to Hell and back. Congratulations on your well-earned completion!
