|Completed a full year in Kirkwall without any party member being knocked unconscious.|
Simply complete Act I or II of the story without any party member being knocked unconscious (they are knocked out when their HP bar is fully depleted). If one of your party members is knocked out, simply reload your last save and you can still get this achievement. It doesn't matter how many times you get knocked out, reloading your last save will always work. Note: It is possible that this achievement will not unlock for you during Act III so do it during Act I or II.

I'm all for challenges, but I hope this won't be too hard. It will be a pain restarting from the last checkpoint or save every time someone gets knocked out.
I was planning on only using strategic combat in larger battles and against more important enemies, such as bosses, so it won't get stale and boring, but with this I guess the first year will have to be carefully planned out, battle for battle. I'm probably going to play on one of the hardest difficulties (Hard if there are like Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties).

I hope they make the difficulties more manageable this time. I'm not great at these kinds of games but I'd like to think I should be able to play through most games on normal and not die if I have half a brain and a decent game plan but some parts I HAD to go casual to beat. Like Kolgrim and Fort Drakon (during the final fight).

DA:O was very hard, i like to think i am good on most games as i can do legendary on fifa and veteran on cod and completed mass effect 2 on hard, but i could never do DA:O on hard and definately nightmare, i didnt see any point in doing it on normal so i just made it easier for myself by doing casual and after playing DA 2 demo which is on normal, it is pretty hard, i like to just charge in swinging my sword and i got knocked down a few times. This should be pretty easy on casual especially if u save regualary like i did on DA:O just to avoid the many glitches.

@ #6....that's because every game you listed that you're "good at" are completley different play style than DA. CoD is run in guns blazing and you win. DA requires planning and tactical skills. You have to actually think to be good at this game. Mass Effect is a good transition game, beat that a few times on Insanity and then maybe you'll be able to be through DA on normal ;)

Oh, oh, oh, oh, staying alive, staying alive!
This should be an interesting achievement to get, but if the demo is any reckoning, it could be more of a challenge than in DA:O. (Merely because of the micro-managing I had to do with the tank in the "real" ogre fight, can't tell them to taunt when party members are being attacked since you have to be in range of the mob attacking the party member). Anyway, I hope to get this on insane for the challenge.

Actually my other question is, how long is the "year"? Is it a matter of a certain number of story-related missions etc.? For this type of achievement I prefer to know ahead of time so I don't have to worry about it on another playthrough.

Direct from the Dragon Age II Complete Official Guide:
"Complete an entire ACT without a party member being knocked out. Possible (though tricky) on Normal difficulty level, we'd suggest that players obtain this by completing the shorter Act 3 on casual."
Hope this helps.

I was a first time go after about 6 hours of playing through ACT I, I just decided to do everything, but you can just to the basic story line to get the money for the expedition and talk to Anders.
The one year is when you get to Kirkwall and then finish "The Deep Roads Expedition" if you are worried about this, just play it on Normal, there is no achievement for playing it harder then normal, unless you enjoy the NIGHTMARES!
Save before each mission...
Save During missions...
Reload if someone gets knocked out....

Yeah I got it after finishing the Deep Roads expedition. From the start of the game until that point is "Year 1" so if you play up to there with no one being knowcked unconscious you'll unlock. This is easily attainable by reloading previous saves if party members, or yourself, do go down. It is important to note that to get the cheevo NO ONE can go down at all. If one member at any point goes to 0 health you will not get the cheevo.

I unlocked it. Played through Act I, achievement popped up after I returned from the Deep Roads expedition, before Act II. Some combats I found were a little tedious on Normal in the Deep Roads so I changed the difficulty to Casual and then back to Normal.
Many have said the trick is to save often and reload if anyone falls in combat. Also it doesn't matter if you change the difficulty either, so if you're stuck, there is no penalty turning down the challenge.
So the year begins once you get to Kirkwall or sometime after you either choose to work for the Mercenaries or Thieves, and ends after the Deep Roads, at the start of Act II.

Thursday, March 17, 2011 @ 06:52:01 AM
During the first Act I was knocked out several times, then I used to Infinite XP exploit to get to Level 50, which made the Deep Roads easy. Then I had difficulty in the Fade side mission beating one of my own party members so the second Act had ONE knockout. Absolutely no knockouts after that, and NO Achievement, so I don't think they count the third Act as a 'year'. Lame, but that's the way it is...

I've noticed that when you accidentally step on a trap, sometimes you will become injured. Perhaps the cheevo looks at whether anyone in your party has become injured during the act, because you will also become injured if you get knocked out. Maybe try playing through an act and making sure none of your party steps on any traps?
Friday, March 18, 2011 @ 06:00:56 PM
that would be near impossible though since some weapons near the end of the game auto injure you, i know i got injured though due to them so maybe thats why i didnt get the cheevo

My suggestion for anyone one having trouble doing this one is to use the glitch (before it gets patched, get your team up to level 50 and try it on act2. Except for the battle at the end of Act2, it seems to be a little easier and more straightforward without quite as many battles. Do it on Normal or Casual. I think the problem some are having is that members of your party can die right as the battle ends. Since they immediately comeback when the battle is over, its easy to not notice that they did in fact die. I think this is what happened to me. I was certain that I had zero deaths in Act 1 on normal. Finished Act 1 and no achievement. Did the glitch in Act2, with almost a sense of paranoia I watched my teams life bars, finished Act2 and BAM got the achievement.
So do the glitch

Also, for those inquiring about whether trap injuries count against the achievement. As someone stated in a previous post trap injuries do not affect the achievement. Unless the trap kills one of your team.

This achievement wasn't too hard to get. I played as a mage and I used all boosting and healing spells. I would have healing aura, heroic aura, and arcane shield on, and have them all upgraded fully. Then using group heal and the normal heal spells, I was able to keep everyone alive with no problem. The only thing that sucks is that you can't use any offensive spells with healing aura on. I used glyphs and force magic to defend myself and other mages. I ended up beating the game without using any offensive spells at all (even though taking out certain bosses by myself took FOREVER) I think it was a nice challenge and I enjoyed it. (I played on normal btw).

I played as a rogue on Casual and brought either Anders or Bethany as they can both do healing and cast a party covering arcane shield which helps huge during the dragon and rock wraith fights in the Deep Roads. The rogues constant critical hits and miasma bombs are very useful here too for finishing fights fast.
Set either to healer at >50% or >25% and make sure they have Arcane shield upgraded to full party and "Any: arcane shield" in their tactics.
Will pop at the end of Act 1 when you return home after the Deep Roads if you didn't let anyone go down. I only had to use a few potions in tight spots.
How the hell do you get to level 50?!!? I beat the game as a level 21 warrior my first run. Didn't know 50 was possible! :-)

@ all people who tried this in Act III, since you don't actually spend a "year" in Kirkwall during Act III, I am pretty sure you don't get the achievement. You have to get no knockdowns in either the first or second act. This is just speculation though. Hasn't been confirmed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I got this achievement during Act 2 its the act where the qunari start wreaking havoc on the city. I used the mage class during this act and used the spirit healer's group heal ability before any of my party members got knocked out and before you fight the arishok make sure have Fenris as one of your party members because he'll persuade the arishok to fight you one on one but only if you agree and its a better advantage and you only have to worry about healing yourself but that wont be much of a problem if you use your dog to help you out. This is the method that worked for me I'm not saying its full proof but you can give it try.

Just got this today on Act 1. Second playthrough, because I tried Act 3 like most suggest. Although it's shorter, it's more irritating than Act 1.
@74 Or maybe we know how to play the game? I only played a mage in Awakening to get the level 20 achievement. My full playthrough from beginning of Origins through the end of all DLC was a warrior on Hard, and it was fairly simple. The parts I tried on Nightmare weren't much worse, with the exception of the Harvester in Golems of Amgarrak (which if you look up a strategy or two, it becomes very easy)

For those for whom this did not pop I have found a possible reason for this. If you summon your marabi dog and he gets knocked out, you get no notification as he doesn't have a health bar like the rest of the party members. And based on me not getting this achievement without getting knocked out in Act I, it seems that the dog getting knocked out prevents this achiev. so to be safe, never summon your dog.
