Dragon Age 2 Achievements

Archeologist

50
During each year in Kirkwall, discovered 3 secret messages from the Band of Three.

The achievement requires that you find three special codex in each Act for a total of 9. They will all appear in your journal, under the Enigma of Kirkwall entry in the Lore section. Check this to see how many you have discovered.

* - Indicates messages that are only available through secondary quests.

ACT I

  1. Lowtown (Night) - You can find the Elven Alienage in the northeastern most point of the map. In it is in the back corner, behind the big tree, located directly behind the sewer grate.
  2. The Gallows - When you return to the Gallows for "The Wayward Son" quest, look to the very North, in a pile of bricks before a gate.
  3. The Bone Pit * - In order to gain access to the Bone Pit during Act I, you must complete your "Birthright". After the main story quest "A New Home" speak to your mother in Gamlen's Home, then speak to your sibling in order to get this quest. After completing it, you will find Bone Pit as a letter on your desk. Once in the Bone Pit, travel to the Southeast dead end and you will see it before the broken train tracks.
  4. Viscount's Keep - This Enigma will not physically appear in your game world, but it DOES exist. After entering Viscount's Keep, head up the left stairs and into the next room. You will see two Guards in front of one door and to the left of them stands Seneschal Bran. Enter through the open door to his left, and on the right wall you will see two pictures separated by a red vase. The enigma will be in the bottom corner of the right picture. Simply go to the area and spam  to pick it up.

ACT II

  1. Chantry - Head up the right most stairs to the top level and the book will be to the right on top of the table in front of the fireplace. The same location where History of the Chantry was in Act I.
  2. Darktown - Head up the first set of stairs and then take the next set of stairs on your right. Continue toward the "Leave Area" icon on your mini-map and you will see it straight ahead (Leave Area is on your right).
  3. Docks - Upon entering the docks, head up the stairs to the left by the change party station to enter the Qunari Compound. After passing through the gates head up the left side of the stairs to find it.
  4. Gallows Dungeon * - This dungeon can only be accessed during Anders' "Dissent" companion quest. Like all Act II companion quests, you must complete "Blackpowder Courtesy" first. Then visit Anders' clinic with him in your party to start Dissent. Once in the Gallow's Dungeon, progress until you encounter a cut-scene with a group of Templars harassing a mage. After it is over, continue up the stairs. The exit door back to Darktown will be in front of you. Instead of leaving, go to the right and down the northern dead end (the one that looks like a rabbit head on your mini-map) to get this.

ACT III
All of these are found during the quests listed below:

  1. Justice - You must complete Anders' Act I and II companion quests in order to get this. After starting the quest travel through Darktown to the Sewers. Once you enter, travel to the southern most room, where one of the waypoint markers is located. Before going up the stairs to collect one of the Sela Petrae deposits, look in the small alcove to the left to find this.
  2. On The Loose - After entering the Templar Hall, go into the hallway where the waypoint marker is (it will be the only door you can go through from the main area). Continue down the hallway and enter the second door on your right (the one after the waypoint marker). If you turn around and face the door you came through, the enigma is in the torch to the right of the door.
  3. Gamlen’s Greatest Treasure - Travel to Lowtown and then to Gamlen's House and pick up the crumpled note on the table in front of him. Then speak to Gamlen to get this quest. During the quest you will be asked to head to Smetty's Fish Guttery at the Docks (Night). Once you are inside the Fish Guttery, head to the left and down the ramp to find this in a pile of rubble between the two boats.
  4. The Last Straw - Located on the docks during this quest. Note: Do everything you want to do in Act III before this quest as there is no turning back once you get into it. After your decision to side with the mages or templars in Lowtown, you will enter the docks. Go down the stairs and you will see corpses on the ground and a giant statue holding a torch. After fighting a bunch of shades and a Pride demon, look by the red boxes to the right of the statue to find this.

This one seems missable. I think the timeline of the game is about a decade, so that's 30 messages you gotta find!

I'm willing to bet that there's no proper way to track this and this will be the troublesome achievement for most players.

In other words, it will start the most "this achievement is glitched" threads.

True Dude Rain, I had it with the If they came to hear me beg. achievement in halo reach
Eveyrwhere people were wining that it's glitched, but if they read it good and that
you should listen to the instructions it's possible. Still I have problems with the
traveler achievement, or the blight qeuller things from DA origins. Anyone has some advise?

Wehnever it came to the "Darkspawn killing" achievement I know for a fact I probably killed a thousand Darkspawn and it doesn't register.
How do I know?....mainly because I reached 500 at the battle of Ostagar

No @#6, you definitely didn't kill 500 during Ostagar. I'm pretty sure there isn't even 500 darkspawn at that point in the game.

I didn't have trouble unlocking either of those two achievements that most people sseem to say are glitched. I guess I just got lucky. The 1000 darkspawn came towards the end for me.

@5 The problem with blight queller is due to a glitch in the recent patch. A 100% way to get this is to delete your 360's cache in the system settings, this will stop all of your DLCs from working, and will reset the game to a pre-patched state. Then start up origins, and make a new game (DO NOT UPDATE THE GAME). I'd suggest playing as a dwarf commoner or noble because there are a lot of darkspawn in the origin story. Set the difficulty to casual and start playing. Whenever possible, leave your party members behind so you can rack up all the darkspawn kills on your own. If you play through most of the game like this, the achievement will pop eventually. If you still haven't received it by the time you get to the alienage level at the end. Just play through that section, and reload

yeah i finally got my 500 darkspawn kills on my dwarf noble during the battle with the archdemon. i was disappointed that my kills aren't properly stacking across playthroughs since i've started like 7 characters....

Regarding Blight Queller ach, the only thing I can think of is that you personally have to do all the damage on the darkspawn without any help from a party member. I know for a fact I have well over 1,000 and don't yet have the achievement either

The darkspawn killing achivement in orgins isn't glitched. The person you are controling has to kill the darkspawn with the final blow. Doesn't matter who yo have to have the killing blow. Got it with shale at the city gates in the middle of the final battle.

Definately missable, reading around, there are four 'messages' during each act, you have to read at least three in each act, for a total of 9. Looks like we have to read everything everywhere to make sure to get this achievo.

You guys do know that for the darkspawn kill achievement you can cheat all you have to do is put the difficulty on nightmare go to the return to Ostagar mission alone save before you go kill as many darkspawn as you can then let the last one kill you and load you game this will take about two hours by it will unlock cuz it keeps track of the ones you killed after you die.

I really don't know how anyone could miss this achievement. I found all of the ones in the first two chapters without any help, and all I did was go everywhere and do everything (which is what you're supposed to do in RPGs).

The items from the Band of Three show up as "The Enigma of Kirkwall" - usually it's a pile of rubble they're stashed under.

act one = before you go to the deep roads.
act two = after you finish the deep roads, up until you become the champion
act three = when you become champion, to the end of the game.

i read some guy say and i agree with him... "Its an rpg, in an rpg you go everywhere, search every corner of everyplace", or something like that, so if u dont get the achievements for this one or the chantry one, you gotta be stupid. because its NOT glitched so if u dont get it you f*cked up... so why on earth go telling ppl where they are.. i get that this page is meant to help u get the achievements but this one is way to easy to get, so grab ur dmn socks and go search through every area of the game.. pretty simple

#32 - i think that's like the one in the Viscount's Keep, it doesn't exist - i searched every scrap of area in the Drakestone Mines and no luck, just a Deep Mushroom

@#31 - More like we're all more interested in the story than running around like a chicken with our heads cut off looking for pieces of paper that only add a hint of appeal to the story. I for one do look around a lot but when the clock hits 1 or 2 and I'm still up...I tend to just speed to the fight/cutscene (on my first playthrough at least).

Hey all I can confirm there are 4 books in the first act
- Bone Pit, Just look around everywhere and it should be under rubble near a blocked exit,
- The Gallows, When you get in, it's to the right of Thrask, look around with LT until it is highlighted.
- The Viscounts Keep, THIS IS GLITCHED. To get it, go into the office next to the Viscounts Office (locked door). Now, go in the middle of the table facing towards the right chair (as you look at it), now at this point spam A (X on ps3) and you should eventually pick it up.
- Lowtown (Night), just outside your friends house. Use LT and it will be highlighted.

The final Enigma of Kirkwall isn't located in the Bone Pit on the Justice quest but is in fact located in the Templar Hall in the Gallows on the torch in the small solitary room near the end of the hall on the left side.

Correct. There are 4 in each act. The 4 in Act1 and 3 in Act2 can be found just by wandering around. One in Act2 is tied to an Anders quest. The 4 in Act3 are all tied to quests. You only need to get 3 in each act.

@42. You are missing the one #35 pointed out in Viscount Keep Act 1
@35. WOW. It was there! Stand between the two chairs facing corner of desk closest to the one on the right and click. Also I've noticed a 'targeting' glitch and have found in battle, and now here, that telling party to "hold position" lets you target again. In this instance the item didn't show as targetable, but it did come up when I pressed A.
Many thanks for this crazy find.... i'm curious do you just manically press A everywhere?? how the heck did you find this? lol

I killed 100 by the end of Ostagar so how you managed 500 is beyond me.
