ya! i'v been hackin away at DS but i still haven't received this achievement.
if that is the case then we need to find a spot where they spawn infinitely.
Or we just have to keep walking back & forth from one city to the next.

This is what they said to do.

(This will come naturally as you progress through the story.
The Darkspawn are your primary enemies, so you'll get this pretty quickly.
As long as someone in your party kills a Darkspawn, it counts towards this
achievements. The Darkspawn kills count across all of your playthroughs.
There's no need to go out of your way to farm this achievement.)

OK! so they said we don't have to go out of our way to farm it but I've
gone though this game & i still don't have this Achievement,maybe there's a
glitch in the game. if i get it I'll let you guys on here know.

I killed over 1k in a single play through and didn't unlock it.

I think it might be like the 100 and possible 500 kills where
the main character needs to get 1k kills across all playthroughs

This is making me mad I have all the other 68 achievements in this game and the 1k kills is all I have left. I have beat the game 3 and a half times plus all the dlc. Damn u bioware fix it now!!!!!!!!!!!

If it's true your main character has to get 1000 killing blows to get the achievement then I would suggest leaving your group at camp and going into darkspawn areas alone. I'll post back if it works.

This seems to be bugged, but here's how I got it:

I made a save at the Elven Alienage portion of the end battle then ran through killing all the darkspawn with just my player character leaving the others in my team on hold position out of the way. After killing all in the area I saved my game and then reloaded my save at the beginning of the section. It took a lot of runs, but Blight-Queller finally unlocked for me.

After my second playthough and i didnt get it, what I did was through my third and all of the dlc i only used my character to kill darkspawn, so i think i should have gotten this a long time ago. I even bought all the dlc thinking maybe they threw some kind of patch in there for this but nope.

I have exactly 1001 dark spawn kills on one file, I solo'd the game leaving mt party completely empty (other than when you had no choice) and it still hasn't popped at all. It's bugged for sure. The game is great, play through for that but don't bother with this achievement for now.

Yeah, this is bugging me. I have almost 1,100 on one playthrough. I don't think its just the main character though, because when you look on your stats screen they don't split up drakspawn kills by character. Its only under the party accomplishments.

I unlocked the achievement, but it took a long time. I do not think the game is
"bugged" to make this unobtainable, but perhaps the achievement description itself
could've been reworded to "main character kills 1,000 darkspawn" to clear this up.

Here's what I was working with.

-I have the 360, "Ultimate Edition."
-I played through the game once before installing the 'Awakenings' disk.
-Only unlocked the achievement for killing 100 darkspawn, while my darkspawn kill
count reached 700+.
-I did not erase, uninstall, or use a new profile to get the achievement.

I had two complete playthroughs, unlocking all of the Origin story achievements,
and all possible endings in Origins, and 1 playthrough of Awakenings.
While unlocking the last of the 4 endings, the 500 kill achieveme

t popped up.
During this time, my rogue character was making most of the kills.

I read a bunch of techniques, and tried the one dark_shard mentioned above, and
it worked (thanks man :)) However, I used my mage character, and went solo. I
reloaded 6-8 times before the blight queller achievement kicked in. Now, I don't
know if I made the full 1,000 throughout the original playthrough, on top of this
technique, but my mage made a whole bunch of killing.

So apparently, the game DOES keep track of darkspawn kills from the main character
even if they aren't essentially "saved."

Okay, so I FINALLY got the 500 Darkspawn achievement and that was on the Fort Drakon rooftop, so clearly there was no issue. Now my problem is, is there really 1000 Darkspawn to kill in the game (keep in mind I only have the Shale and Soldier's Keep DLC). I barely had around 600-700 Darkspawn kills at the final battle.

Wow I finally got this playing the other week. Here's what I did, I just went
back and loaded up one of my saves at the elven alienage at the final battle.
I just used my guy and killed everyone and reloaded my save over and over again.
The weird thing is when my guy died I just switched to my dog and killed a ds and
the chevo popped. So I got it with my dog on my 4th play through. Hmmmm. Strange.

THIS WILL WORK

I have the Origins disc, the Awakening disc and all other DLC downloaded.

I took me forever searching but I've figured this out. I don't rember the site but I read that originally the achievement was across all playthroughs, but after the updates it was somehow changed to one playthrough. Because of this, even though your counter may read over 1000, it was reset with the update. So say you killed 600 the first playthrough, then download the update, you won't reach the requirement till your counter says 1600, in one playthrough. The kills count for your whole party, not just the main character.

Unless you want to start fresh through Origins, Awakening, and all the extras, do what dark_shard already said. Make a save at the alienage (or deep roads or somewhere wi

Strange, since I got over 1200 kills with my party on my warrior (1st playthrough), then when I solo'd with my arcane mage, it popped on 1000. That aside, the reloading of the alienage works just fine.

After the Landsmeet, fight through Denerim until you get to the Alienage.
Tell the elves to stay back. Before walking forward, SAVE.
Proceed and you'll see the Ogre knocking down the gate.
Kill all Darkspawn and reload to get more kills.
This was my last achievement.

Big thanks to Skymadeofglass on trueachievements.com for this;

**POTENTIAL SPOILERS**

"Kill 1000 darkspawn for this achievement. While this is supposed to be a cumulative achievement across all playthroughs, it can be buggy so it's unclear what is exactly needed for it to unlock and whether all playthroughs actually count.

If you're having trouble and own the Awakenings expansion, one solution is to make your companions hold at the start of the the quest to save the Keep [You can't do this if you decide to save Amarantine] and go to the front gate alone. As long as you are alone in this area infinite darkspawn will spawn here. Therefore it's just a case of killing until the achievement pops."

Im not quite sure how this works because I couldn't get this even though I had racked up exactly 1,000 Darkspawn kills with my first playthrough, but when I did my next playthrough it unlocked while my character wasn't even in the party. It was when you fight as the group you left behind in Denerim at the end, and I was playing as Dog and he got a kill and it unlocked. I checked my stats and my charcter had only 539 Darkspawn kills. Oh well, I got that one and the rest I was missing and I have all 76 achievments and I am pumped for Dragon Age 2!!!!

figured the easiest way to do this is finish origins all the way to "The Final Onslaught", i for example used a Blood Mage/Arcane Warrior with a staff as secondary,
the mage is the best to get the achievement in the final onslaught due to the AoE spells he/she posssess, using the staff is the fastest ranged attack aswell.
So attacking the dark spawn with your staff allows you to kill them fast enough, figuring if you're high enough level so they only take 1 hit to kill. When the darkspawn then stack up around you, you use the blood mages "Blood Wound" spell since its the AoE spell with the fastest casting time. I don't know if it's true but read that you can save and re-do this area and the darkspawn kills still count even thought you're reloading a save before, i don't if it works but i

I have read many entries about what it takes to get this achievement, so I recommend keeping it simple. I did this following the guidelines below.

A previous poster stated that with the version update it reset the kill count on a character/account. This is true. When I first played this game I had Master warden 500 kills, so when I went for this the achievement should have popped at 500 kills, but did not.

I see people talking about across playthroughs, if its a different character the answer is no. I finished the Origins with a rogue, and started Awakening with a mage. I had to get 1000 to get it to pop.

When choosing to save the Keep, its an excellent farm spot, as I was averaging 150 Darkspawn kills per go around (30 mins). When you first begin they enter the main gate. As lon

As long as the Yellow Darkspawn stays alive, the white hurlocks and genlocks will rush through the gate. The blue guard allies will kill the Yellow DS eventually, but you should have 50 or so kills. Continue through the other battles, when you get to the armored Ogre that is another instance where DS keep coming as long as the Ogre is alive. In my games the Ogre often went for the blue allies, and when he did come near me I would cone of cold him and run away.

-1 main character gets 1000 DS killing blows, party kills don't count.
-1 Playthrough, choose Awakening or Denerim for your save and reload method.
-1st Save load up do the battling, when finished create a 2nd save or save over another file as the 2nd.

I wrote down my kills each session it popped at 950ish kills, most likely

I only recently bought Dragon Age Origins and well...I was hooked from the start. After looking into the achievements I noticed people were having trouble with this so hopefully I can give some advice. The method didn't take long and was quite fun I found but anyway
- (Mage required for player).
- Get to Elven Alienage towards end of game.
- Create one save when you enter (for safety).
- Talk to the Elven girl,(It should auto save)then run to gate,
- Call in an army (I picked dwarfs)
- Cast Inferno on gate (Ogre and enemies should be highlighted)
- Move forward and cast Tempest (Electric AoE) near bride
- Cast Blizzard in the centre
- Have party focus on the General
- Repeat the AoE's focusing them near the bridge exit, this should kill the enemies as soon as they walk off the br

Just wondering when doing the Alienage part, do you have to save over a previous Alienage save or do you just save in a new slot every time after you get back to the elven girl?

Sunday, April 03, 2011 @ 05:45:50 AM

You create a save at the start of the Alienage which you only use if you cross the bridge by accident and cause the cutscene to occur, the game will autosave when you first talk to the elf girl, then do the process I listed above. When all the Darkspawn are dead, go back, talk to her, save (create new save). When you repeat the process save over that save, make sure it's not the autosave with the elf girl or the safety save.

I'm trying the re-load a save method for this like everyone else, however as my arcane mage is pretty much crap at the alienage I am doing it on awakening instead. The bit in Vigil's Keep with the armoured ogre is where I keep reloading. I keep killing darkspawn until the ogre comes and to make it last longer and get more kills I keep hacking at darkspawn and let the ogre slowly die on its own. This takes about 15 mins-ish and I've just been reloading this over and over again. Thing is I don't even have the 500 darkspawn kills yet and it says I've had about 1200 kills? I think it's the party ones but surely my own character would have 500 of those??
I'm just wondering if the method I'm doing will work in the end...any help?

Just got this today thanks to the advice on here. Instead of using the Alienage though I kept doing runs of Redcliff after the Landsmeet. There's about 40 DS in the village and save for an Alpha, 2 Emissaries and 3 Ogres the rest are all really low level and die with 1-hit. I actually used Morrigan at one point to see just how little health they have and they were dying from her default staff damage which was about 25. The good thing about this area is it's size - you can easily ditch the rest of your party to stop them kill stealing and there are a few breaks in the encounters to let your stamina replenish. You can even get the drop on one of the Ogres by using the bridge where there are 3 Hurlock archers on the left. Hope this helps.

1000 by one's self is actually a lot more than people imagined, that's why people say that they "eventually" got it. You don't actually know for sure how many you've killed, so just keep going and you will get it.

As for thesoyboy, just out of curiosity, why 56-64? I thought that area only spawns a certain amount of enemies? And are you sure that you killed all of them by yourself?

Urgh I'm not even sure if the kills are registering for me as I haven't even got the 500 kills achievement yet for some odd reason...must have missed alot of kills then. I've started to use the alienage method with my arcane mage and she only has 500 or so total kills herself. Quite a good few of those aren't obviously darkspawn but I managed to get up to 55-70 kills on each run and after about what felt like maybe 6 or 7 runs I started to wonder how on earth I don't have the 500 achievement yet...Guess I'll just keep on persisting and hopefully i'll get there.

I think I've succed these achievements out. I was playing through to get the traveler achievement & master warden achievement popped up. I think you have to be controlling character to make 500/1000 kills. IE: I played through the whole came as my created character. When I got the the final bit in the palace district, I switched to Leliana, as she was an archer with high dex. I killed about 5 or 6 darkspawn with her & the acheivement popped up. I think what it is, as long as you make the 500th & 1000th kill, it should pop up. Say for example, Leliana (computer controlled) has killed 600 & I control her & kill one darkspawn, the acheivement should pop up. I think that's how it works any way.

Hope that makes sense?

100% agree with the Solo Arcane Mage, but take a full group and have them stay back
aways. This will save you when running low on health, just pop back to them for
a quick heal and run back in. Ran through the game on easy this way until the end
when I went back in my saves to do the Perfectionist achievement. I suggest saving before the Landsmeet so you can sacrifice either Alistair or Loghain then load and
grab the other to sacrifice. Also save right before talking to Morrigan about the
ritual. By replaying the end four times and a solo run it should pop.

Also in my opinion, start off with the Mages Circle first.
Make sure to get all of the attribute bonuses laying around.
Kind of a nice little stat booster.

Something I wonder;
When doing Alienage runs, do you have to clear the game from all updates?
I found a forum saying you should first get rid of all updates and then do Alienage runs.
So delete them or not?

you must kill the ds personally.the character is unimportant as long as YOU get the kills. so your main doesn't need to be the killer, but you need to be controlling the killer for the final blow.

The best way to do this is by telling your party to stay still and run through the Alienage a few times. I'm still not sure how the counter works though, I have over 850 on my stats and yet no 500 achievement. I'm sure patience will work though as this is the second time I have hunted this achievement and the first time I remember getting the 1000 when my stats were closer to 1500. The Alienage runs are the best way providing you don't have Awakening, otherwise going alone to defend the Vigil and fighting the never-ending stream of darkspawn can get this achievement quite effortlessly. Good luck to whoever is still going for this achievement

@79 when you say you have over 850 on your stats, what stat is it?

I am assuming this is darkspawn kills, and not just kills.

As i currently have 1159 party kills and 551 personal kills, but only 222 darkspawn kills.

am i right in only looking at Darkspawn party kills as that seems to be the only meaningful stat?

Yeah, and that stat that the game gives you pertains only to the story's "timeline." It doesn't have anything to do with the hidden counter for this achievement. For example, when you keep reloading Alienage, the in-game stat list will always show the same number every time you load it; but the hidden counter is keeping track of how many you really killed with the character you were controlling.
A lot of you are talking about that number the game gives you in relation to this achievement, but they're not actually related.

I played through the main content with a mage, reloading from Eamon's Estate to get the Perfection endings, then all the DLC and finally Awakenings. I went back and loaded up my save from the Alienage maybe 3-4 times, using Inferno (but not even leaving my squad behind) and it popped. I had my Magic score at about 100, so only "yellow" and "red" DS could survive the Infernos for more than a second.

Took like 15 minutes at the Alienage. I never at any point in the game made any special effort to make sure I got kills instead of my squad. I think you really kill a lot of DS in normal gameplay.

Ok, the stat of the Darkspawn killing in the game has nothing to do with the actual killing numbers, i just had the achievement and only have 750 Darkspawn kills in the total grup kills so ....... you DON'T have to delete your saves or start again, just save at the start of the Alienage in the final battle (The final part of the game) and keep reloading till that sucker pops up, just be patients it may take some trays.

hey if any of you have killed more than 1000 drak spawn and not got this i will suggest one thing. (if u have a save game before start of denerim final fight than this will be easy) make the save point before final onslought and den finish the game (let it save) reload the save again and redo the final battle again (aparently the achievement is 1000 drakspwan per a specidif character) so if u had 600+ kills before final battle and u (ur entire party) killed 200+ during final battle you can reload and do it in 2 tries other wise 3 tries (i realised this when i was useing saves to get perfectionist)

I did the Alienage trick. I simply killed all the darkspawns, saved on some file and reloaded before the fight. No clearing cache needed at all. I made my whole team hold position and went on to fight alone. It took 6 runs, around 10 minutes each times.

This was my second to last achievement. I hate to say it, but I used one of True-Achievements guides.

I do not take full credit for this, as I merely followed it :

"I got this by slightly altering the Elven Alienage method. I had a level 22 dual wield ranger. My party also included Lelliana. Speak with the elves and then -
1) Put party on hold position
2) Use Leliana to activate the Song of Courage(I used Valor because I was a mage - Dragon)
3) Head towards the gate
4) Save just before you get to the platforms
5) Go up to the top of the platform on the right
6) Stand in the front right corner (up against the building and also the wall looking out towards the darkspawn)
7) Watch small groups of ~5 run through the gate towards you and up the stairs
8) Fight the small groups

I have a couple of questions regarding the grinding trick, aside from Redcliffe can the reload trick be done in other areas containing Darkspwan and does it have to be done in one session or can you save to take a break (i.e. need for sleep etc.)

If you're just playing this game to get this achievement then I recommend just saving before you enter the Tower of Ishal right in the beginning of the game and reloading after beating the Ogre. It will be a long process but hey wouldn't you rather do that then play the game for the upteenth time?

This achievement had me scared for abit too. After i finished my 1st run in Origins, i killed 1015 darkspawn but still no achievement. However using the "SAME" character, i keep reloading the game to do different ending, then i suddenly got it on while going for my last ending that i needed. The kill count at that time was at 977 (right before the door to fight the archdemon).

I think the achievement is not screwed up it self but rather some darkspawn that actually goes towards the Darkspawn kill count, does not actually go through for the achievement. Because in theory i should have got it on my first run but it took me : 1 whole run + 3 runs starting before the landsmeet.

Dont panic guys, my only tip is try using the same character killing the DS. Altough i read other saying it doe

After so long I finally got this!!! I went for my 100% complete playthrough and tried to get this thru the dlc, got nothing. Went back and remembered I had an alienage save, reloaded that, beat the game, then reloaded again. I just parked in the top left platform so that the General just sat there and I killed all his grunt spawns. That second time in the Alienage I got it.

I somehow got this while playing as Sten defending the city gates after finishing the Elven Alienage in the final battle in Denerim. My Warden wasn't a playable character at the time, so the kills do not need to be by your Warden, but there does seem to be a glitch because i had about 1250 Darkspawn kills at the time.

If you go back and read earlier posts its one playthrough and the character your playing has to do the killing
places to do save reloads are the alienage during the final battle save the keep solo playing in awakening and the rooftop battle at the end when the archdemon is down to 25%health the ds just keep pouring out onto the roof

I got this on my second playthrough, with about 200 darkspawn killed (by my character) in that playthrough, and around 800 in the previous one. My experience shows that this is across all playthroughs, as I certainly did not hit 1000 in the current playthrough.

Just got Master Warden, now going to 1000 darkspawn kill with the Alienage technique. Looong road ahead ! (Which I don't understand why as I finished the game twice and finished all DLC...!). Still great game ! My cousin worked on it :)

Friday, December 13, 2013 @ 04:30:30 PM

I got this on my first playthrough using the Defending the Alienage mission over and over again. Took me about 30 mins to get Master Warden, and about another hour to get Blight-Queller. I didn't empty my cache, change any patches and I was online the whole time.

What's interesting is after popping Master Warden I counted the kills only my custom character made, and when I got around 780 Blight-Queller popped. So I'm guessing the the counter does include party kills after all :)
