One with the Shadows
Returned the Thieves Guild to its former glory
In order to get this achievement you have to do enough side missions (and then a main mission for each of the 4 major cities) for the Thieves Guild, namely Delvin and Vex, so you can restore the Thieves Guild to its former glory. It’s basically a matter of doing a set of mundane jobs throughout the cities of Skyrim until the guild catches someone’s eye there, then doing the main mission in that city. There’s a lot of tooing and froing to be done here, so don’t say you haven’t been warned – remember as well, pick two missions up at a time (one from each Delvin and Vex) and then drop them off two at a time.
Then you’ll have to do the following quests in each city:
Yeah, it’s a pain in the ass in truth and super boring – talk about cheaply artificially extending the length of the guild – but it has to be done… it helps towards the 100,000 gold achievement anyway, plus a few of the other more sinister achievements.

Be aware that you will be unable to complete this quest if you sell the Thieves Guild Armour. You will need it to get upgrades that come in the quest. Unfortunately, I sold mine and without it you're unable to get the final upgrade and the achievement that comes along with it, unless there another set of Thieves Guild Armour in the game I am unaware of.
Hope this prevents some unnecessary frustration.

Comment #20 by JimBob Da Great
Saturday, November 19, 2011 @ 06:03:26 PM
The Thieves Guild Armor is not needed to do this achievement at all. It is an optional upgrade you can receive. I completed this without a single piece of Thieves Guild Armor on me as it was all already sold. Also you do not have to complete 44 quests. You need to complete the main quest line and then do 5 side jobs in each major city the Thieves Guild wants influence in. If you get a job from Riften or a city you have already completed just tell the quest giver you want to quit that job. Winterhold, Whiterun, Makareath and Solitude are the 4 holds you need. The numbers jobs and burglery are the easiest.

After you have completed 5 jobs in a hold then the Vex or the guy (name is slipping my mind) will tell you they have a special job for you. There is 1 special job for each city that you must complete.

I'd just like to point out the four holds are:
I'm not sure why some people put Winterhold, but there are no jobs there...
And speaking of no jobs - has anyone had problems with Delvin and Vex NOT giving jobs in Markath?
I've done the special jobs in the other 3, butthey never seem t give me any jobs in Markath. I've looked through my finished quests and I don't have a single entry for Markath. Which means they've never given me a single job there.
Anyone else had this problem?

I've got the guard glitch in Markath where they constantly try to arrest you and you can't pay off your bounty or serve a jail sentence. Thus it's impossible to complete any of the jobs in Markath without "being arrested and failing".
So, word of warning, do the Theives Guild Missions there before the Forsworn missions.

This achievement is glitched i have done everything but at the very end when u finally become the guild leader to finish that path u gotta collect ur guild leader armour from tonilia, but if u never traded in any of ur old thieves armour for a better suit or u don't have ur armour anymore to do that trade u can't talk to her about getting ur leader armour she just keeps saying u can trade in ur old armour for new better armour, so until there's a patch i can't finish this :( so make sure u keep ur thieves armour or like me u'll just have to wait for that patch.

So I think I've sorted this, you need to do 5 jobs in a city which will then open a specialist job either Imitation Amnesty, Silver Lining, Summerset Shadows or The Dainty Sload when you complete these and the nightingale questline then you'll get the achievement.
Its 14 main thieves quests, 20 misc jobs then 4 more in depth jobs. :D pretty hard but makes the game worth keeping playing.

Delvin and Vex give you odd jobs in five different cities (Riften, Windhelm,
Solitude, Whiterun, Markarth). You must do 5 jobs in each city (excluding
Riften) before you get an improvement quest in that city (which Delvin will
give to you). The game doesn't tell you how many quests you;ve done in each
city so it's best to keep track of it yourself. Odd jobs in Riften do not apply to the improvement quests so if you do get a Riften odd job, just forfeit it and try

I've done the main quest line, and all the hold 'special' quests too yet I still don't have the achievement, I'm wondering if you need to get the thieves guild armour upgraded to get it, if that's the case I offer a word of warning. Do NOT sell your armour to Tonilia before she has upgraded it because it bugs the game where she keeps asking to upgrade your armour but wont let you buy it back off her, ergo your stuck forever in that particular scenario.

I don't know but I'm freaking out. I as well sold all my Thief's Guild Armor a long long time ago (before I owned a house and started storing 'special outfits' in my chest) and now I've only this Achievement left (which BTW doing all the BS Assignments is horrible especially when they don't tell you what city the jobs are in until you check your Quest Book)
If this F's up my 100% Competition rate I'm going to be pissed at Bethesda, I already dodged one bullet with the Deadra Quests.

@54 & 55, you need the thieves guild armour, if you dont have it you'll be enjoying this on your second playthrough, which no doubt you'll be doing anyway. In short its not a bug that it requires the armour. Also the daedra items isnt dodging a bullet, you get a choice, if you choose the wrong one then like life it bites you in the ass occasionally. It's an open world RPG if there were never any consequences it would get rather boring.
Friday, December 16, 2011 @ 01:34:39 PM
No trust me, Daedra Items were dodging a bullet. I don't typically read through achievements and when I was doing the Daedra quests I was leveled beyond the point of use for most of the items anyway.
And I didn't say it was a glitch and neither did 54. What WE are doing is hoping that there is some backdoor way to get our Armour Back since the Achievement requires a good amount of time and about 44 Random Missions that all suck because the way the game loads you outside of the thieves guild only to load two more times before you get to Vex and D-Mal

Do you know what you did for this achievement? I assume you have to become the guild master since everyone says that's what you need to do but in the quest where you become guild master it lists going to Tonila and exchanging Armour as a requirement but without any armour the quest can never finish.
I know it's not a glitch but I'm hoping Bethesda gets a loophole in here because if I do decide to do another play through I don't want to be forced to be a thief and do an insane amount of uneeded missions and loads.
I'm not sure what you are asking/stating.

My understanding of the achievment from what i have read is that you need to do 14 thieves guild quests after which you must do 5 jobs recieved from thieves guild members in the cities of Whiterun, Windhelm, Solitude, and Markarth. After completing 5 jobs within a citie you will be then given a special mission to do within that city. After which you should follow the instructions to become the leader of the theives guild at which point your achievement should unlock.

Guys, I got this achievement yesterday. Here's the exact way I've got it.
You need to get quests from Delvin and Vex both at the same time, in Windhelm, Whiterun, Solitude, and Markarth. You do NOT need to do the Riften missions. So, if you get any Riften missions, cancel them and get a different city. Now, one question that doesn't seem to be in this list is this: Both Delvin and Vex quests together stack. If you get two Delvin quests in Whiterun, and get three Vex quests in Whiterun, total will be five. And then you'll get the special quest for Whiterun. After you do a special quest in any of the four cities, you'll have no need to do any quests in those cities anymore, so skip them.
So, in summary;
Markarth: five regular quests, one special quest
Whiterun: five regular quests, o

@23.. I haven't had the Markath problem.. Windhelm was hard for me to get quests for.. Either way I just quit the quest and asked for a new one until I got Windhelm.. I hate that I have about 20 failed missions now from doing so, but I wanted this achievement, so I guess in order to finish this I needed to do so.
Note- **SPOILER**(kinda)** This was bugging me when I first started these Thieves Guild quests- Do you need to do the mission where you return the Skeleton Key (Darkness Returns) before starting these? No. I used it the whole way through.

Any ideas if the armor problem will be fixed in patch 1.4? I can't seem to find any information anywhere. All that's said is that it's due out this month (January). Just one place selling a piece of the kit would be fine. I'll pay 20,000 gold for it if they want haha. Last achievement needed!

This one took me about 8 hours total to complete. (thats all three achievements for the theives guild). I could not finish on my main profile game since Branolf would not move from the square to the ragged flaggon. when i did my new game... i took a cart to riften and started all the thieves guild stuff. from LVL1 i leveled to 18 just on thieves guild quest. All in all a good quest set, but i think i enjoyed the dark brotherhood more.

Well, i fucked this as i sold my thieves armor to tonila, realized this after doing EVERYTHING else, pissed off saved it at the point of needing to get my leader armor! save said i'd played 168 hrs at that point! went through all my saves till found one where i had the armor save said 45 hrs played and had only done the first thieves quest, so i thought balls to it i'll do it again only took about 6 and half hours just concentrating on the thieves quest! With the hold quests i just keep asking for the numbers and burgulary jobs and then quitting them if in the wrong place finally did it all but amusingly on my stats it says i've done - 47 thieves quests due to the ones i keep quitting! 1000g finally

I went to the following site and was able, after a couple hours work, to get my Thieves Guild armor back. You have to register on the site to see everything. It talks about download hex editors and such, but the only program I needed was something called modio. And then I watched this youtube video that shows you how to extract your savegame file and put it on your PC. Then you load the savegame file into your PC version of Skyrim (if you know how to get it). Use cheats to get the armor back, save and then export it back to your Xbox.
Apparently, you can use this method and get all kinds of stuff, but I chose only to get what I needed, because I want the real experience.

Found a pretty good way to do the side quests, although it takes some reloading. Get the "Bedlam" quests from Delvin, and the "Sweep" one from Vex. Load until you get them both in the same city. Stealing the 3 items for Vex's job will also complete the stealing 500 gold worth of goods for Delvin's. So you can get 2 jobs done very quickly, longest part is just loading until you get the jobs to line up.

This achiemvents is actually pretty easy...just alot of bad comments on this page.
To clarify the only time you may need your armour is during the beginning of the quest. After you upgrade the first time you really dont need the armour to finish the quest since they provide you with NEW Leader Armour.
For this achievement you will need to get a job from Vex and Delvin but try to get them so the jobs will be in the same city for both.
EX: VEX - Sweep in Solitude
EX: Delvin - Bedlam in Solitude
After completing the 4 minor jobs within the four cities from Delvin and Vex you will get a special job from Delvin for the 4 cities Windhelm, Solitude, Markarth, and Whitrun. After completting the special jobs you will be asked to become leader and bamm ACHIEVMENT UNLOCKS.

Ive run into a glitch where you do The Dainty Sload. You are supposed to meet Erikur, but he appears in the middle of the ocean near Solitude. Going to his marker, he isnt there. I checked the places he frequents and he isnt there. Without meeting him, I cannot complete the mission and thus get this achievement.
I had read somewhere that it can happen to you if you beat the main quests first.

#98 I think the main complaint is that people spend time into getting the achievement then run into a bug that ruins hours of play... if Bethesda wants you to experience the fullness of the game and requires you to go through certain measures to obtain an achievement then they should be fixing bugs... At this point this achievement bugged for me because I did the main quests first before completing these side quests and never received Under New Management... just spent 4 hours and now need to reload an earlier save just to get do everything I already did all over again... This will definitely be my last Bethesda game.

The description made it sound like you had to do a ton of each type of quest, when in fact you only have to do about five overall in each of the four city-holds other than Riften... Oh well. Nowhere near as bad as people made it out to sound. Just grab these quests on your way in and out of the Thieves Guild while completing the primary Thieves questline. It's a gradual sort of thing, plus the extra coin for each job really helps when trying to rack up the 100,000 needed for another achievement.

I completed all the 5 small quests in each of the 4 cities, then i went to the cereomony to become guild master! Then i was stuck cos i didnt have to armour to talk to that woman!! So i looked around and in the center area near one of the beds are some boots. I picked them up, went to the woman, upgraded them, then she gave me a quest. I spoke to her straight after i recieved the quest and i had more options now. Like a shop option and then the option of gaining the master armour from her. Soon as i clicked this and recieved the armour off her, the achievement popped :D So u dont need all the armour, just one piece :D (if you sold them boots on the floor as well...then ooops!)

This achievement is relatively easy. You don't need your Thieves' Guild armors, or the Nightingale armors to grab this achievement. Continue to perform extra jobs from both Vex and Delvin, (I prefer numbers and sweep jobs because they're simple and quick) and eventually Delvin will ask you to perform a "special job." After returning from completing the special job, you must continue to perform the extra jobs, with more special jobs popping up every now and then. You'll notice that as you clear more of these jobs, Delvin will mention that merchants have moved into the vacant areas around the Ragged Flagon. The achievement is awarded after EVERY VACANT AREA has a merchant occupying them.

I don't see why everyone moans about this taking so long... It's really simple, just stick to one job type from each person (I chose Numbers and Sweep), save before picking up the quest from each person - reload if wrong location. Took me around 3 hours tops. But that was also because I enjoyed trying out each of the different job types. Oh and one last thing: Bedlam in Raven Rock DOES NOT WORK. If you get that, reload/abandon it ASAP unless someone knows a way around it.

After reading the posts here i think i have the problem with the Thief's Armor and Tonilla. I sold it BEFORE the upgrade and when i try to get the Guild Master Armor at the end of the Thief's guild quest she wants me to get the Thiefs Armor back with no other dialoge option.
All in all i can`t finish the Thief's Guild questline and because of that no Achievement.
So my advise is: DON'T sell the Thief's Armor before you upgraded it.

It takes a while to do this one. Probably the most boring achievement to hunt, unless you are really into the Thieves Guild. Even then, the continuous repetition of minor, petty and anonymous crimes get rather boring. They main quests are fun, but the other half is boring. I recommend doing this slower half of the quests rather slowly a couple at a time. The do another part of the games.

But If I take a sweep job from Vex (until a city I need) then go to Devlin and take a bedlam job, they've been in the same city. Found this on another forum, fixed my Windhelm problem:
"If you attacked Windhelm with the Imperials and killed Ulfric, but left before Tullius could leave the room and give his speech then the Thieves Guild quests for Windhelm will be bugged. Simply go back into the palace, let Tullius and Rikke leave, listen to the speech and talk to them, and then go talk to Delvin and Vex, and this fixes the bug."
Cannot confirm if this works for other cities yet though.

Simple. Beat 5 thieves guild missions from either Devlin or Vex for the cities of windhelm, whiterun, markarth, and solitude. After 5 are completed in each city you get a special mission for each city. Complete all special missions for each city and then talk to devlin again. Finally talk to tonilla and get the master thieves armor. This in effect unlocks the achievement.

OK - there is a lot of useless information about this achievement.
This can actually be done in 2 hours max once you´ve finished all the other Thieves Guild Quests.
1. Talk To Devin and Vex.
2. Get a shill job and a numbers job.
3. Make sure that the jobs are in the same city.
The citys are - Whiterun, Markath, Solitude, Windhelm
4. If one on them gives you a job at the other city quit it and get a new one.
5. Do 5 jobs in one city and then Devin gives you a special job at that city.
6. Do a special job in each city and you will be made a Guild Master.
7. Aftr that get your new armor from Toniala and Voila - the achievemt pops!
