Lost to the Ages

Complete "Lost to the Ages"

This is a sidequest from the DLC. There are 2 ways to trigger it. You can find a book called The Aetherium Wars or you can go to Arkngthamz and you can meet up with Katria's ghost to activate the quest. This is a somewhat lengthy quest and you will need a good amount of lockpicks and a decent lockpicking skill (I was around 60) Also Bring a crossbow/bow and a good chunk of Arrows/bolts. Projectile style Destruction magic also works for the tonal locks.

The book ''The Aetherium Wars'' can be found:

  • Dawnguard fort
  • Castle Volkihar Undercroft
  • Bard's College
  • Hall of the Vigilant
  • Ruunvald Temple

  • Reach the summit of Arkngthamz
  • Solve the Tonal lock
  • Claim the treasure of Arkngthamz
  • Speak with Katria
  • Search for Aetherium Shards
  • Locate the Aetheium Forge
  • Retrieve Aetherium Crest
  • Stand Clear
  • Find Aetherium Forge
  • Shut off the steam
  • Defeat the guardians of the forge
  • Speak with Katria
  • Use the Aetherium forge

The tonal lock requires a a crossbow to complete. You must shoot each of the 5 parts in a certain order in order to unlock the door. Start bottom left to bottom right to top left to top right to middle.

You also have the option of getting more materials to use at the forge which if you just want the achievement just skip this extra part of the quest and use the forge to make 1 of the 3 items and then the achievement pops when you finish on the forge.

I just completed the DLC and haven't seen any "Lost in the Ages" anywhere. Maybe the side quests from Dawnguard because I've done a few of Vamps and nothing so far.

Having a problem. Started the quest, got all the pieces except one. Can't find the last one and it's not marked on my map at all. I heard it was somewhere to the far west of the map, near "The Reach." I checked Brgahtsxzxmznxzm (The one that starts with a "B" north of there, but no luck. Can someone help me out?

the book is inside the fort, when you look around a bit you find some kind of path that takes you to a huge cave system. you need to hit targets to lower bridges etc. i believe the cave is near 2 dogs just chillaxing inside.
at some point in the path there should be a bookcase to your right under this little outpost built out of wood ontop with another dirty argonian book.

@ crazed gnome its north of bathadamz its not a dwemer ruin its like a bridge and inbetween the bridge is a waterfall. just go north of barthadamz w/e

i think the 5th ruin is also added on i cant seem to find it

The last piece is located at Deep Folk Crossing. It is North West North of Bthardamz. Once you reach Deep Folk Crossing, the quest marker will show where the last piece is.

If youre still lost, try this:

The forge is located at the Ruins of Bthalf, Which is directly south of Ivarstead. East of an imperial camp.

I am stuck on the part in Raldthbor deep market. Can not get the mechanism to power up so that I can lower the gate. I had to take some bones out of the dwarven gears to get some of them to work, but the left gear is still not working. Anyone else come across this one? Help...stuck...and it sucks!!!

I had everything marked, not sure if it makes a difference, but make sure you pick up (katria's?) diary, the diary on the dead body in the first dungeon, not sure what that's called. That might help.

GUYS YOU DON'T NEED THE FUCKING BOOK. Just show up at Arkngthamz and go inside and the quest will start. It's directly south of Dushnik Yal which is just about Southwest of Markarth.

The book is also in the library in the College of Winterhold. Enter the library, follow the outside wall to your right, and the book will be on the first table to your left, on the right side if you are facing it.

Easiest place I found the book was when I first went to the Dawnguard fort. Went inside and went straight past the guy you talk to into the room behind him. Its on your left on a book shelf.

All the book does is provide you with the location of Arkngthamz (if you don't already know the location). It's not a unique book, there are several copies of it out and about. And you have to do a little more than just enter the ruins to activate the quest, so don't freak out when it doesn't show up right away. Walk a short distance into the ruins and you will hear a female voice telling you to "Turn back." Keep going further in and soon a spirit named Katria will approach you. After your dialog with her the quest will activate.

@42, it is southwest of Riften near the edge of the map. But unless you have purchased the Dawnguard DLC then you can look and look all day and never find it. This achievement is specific to the add-on.

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 @ 05:36:16 PM

Sorry, southeast of Riften, not southwest. And if you have purchased the add-on then you have (or soon will be) approached by an orc that will tell you about the Dawnguard and reveal the location to you as well...

@52 They need to add more DLC to be able to go to Morrorwind, Cyrodiil, and be able to go through Oblivion portals again and not go to some barren wasteland.... I mean, I liked the colours of the area of Oblivion you were in, I just want to go back and fight more Scamps and Dremora. Take down a few of them towers, you know?
