Defeat a Legendary Dragon
It is currently speculated that some where around level 70 is the absolute minimum that a legendary dragon will show up although the higher the level you are the more likely you are to run into one. I had to be 81 in order for it to show up for me. Although nothing is 100% confirmed what the level requirement is.

@30 u buy a house if u don't have one and activate ur bookshelf, then u select the Oghma infinium and read it (doesnt matter wut path u choose) then once it registers u read it back out and store it in ur bookshelf. Then select the Oghma infinium and select do not read then take the book back. Rinse and repeat and you'll get to lvl 81 in no time! Ur welcome in advance.

You have to be Level 60 for the Legendary Dragons to appear (level 50 for the Elder Dragons) - 81 is max level but this is not required for the achievement, legendary dragons are RARE very scarce.. your best bet is to visit all the dragon monuments around the map as they keep coming back and if not well just keep scaling the map one will eventually appear! Hope this has helped anyone having any trouble!

I believe the minimum level you have to be is 78. I was around level 70 when I started the DLC, and every level I would check for the legendary dragon with no luck. I get to level 78 and it's like the 2nd dragon I find. so pretty sure you need to be at least 78.
Sunday, July 01, 2012 @ 05:48:56 PM
I can confirm that the lowest level is 78!!! Seriously don't believe anyone else you hear. 78 is the minimal level!!!!!!!!!! At 75, I checked around and nothing. Today grinded for 6 hours to get to level 78. As soon as I reached level 78, I went to Autumn watch tower, and two appeared. Killed it and bam, cheevo unlocked! So to summarize, LEVEL 78 is when they first appear. If anyone gets one on a lower level they are probably lying. Also a tip, if you are like below 65 and don't have the book glitch, you are better off starting a new game and using the exploit glitch.

Confirmed that Level 78 is the magic number. I started the DLC at Level 73. Spent about 20-25 hours playing and killed about 20 Revered dragons and never once saw a Legendary. Finally decided to start grinding my pickpocket and light armor and finally hit 78. Went to my first dragon wall afterward and hit a Legendary dragon first dragon appearance.
Monday, July 02, 2012 @ 01:21:12 AM
@Toasty Be prepared for a long grind. Seriously if you are around 60 and are prepared to grind, it will take hours. One I hit 75 I got desperate for levels. Restoration and Destruction are spells I never use, so it look a while. I'm talking 6 hours for 3 levels and it gets mad boring real fast. So I just suggest to make a new save file and speed run to the quest with the book gitch, because there is nothing else to do expect change your play style drastically. Hope I helped a little and gave some insight. Remember 78 is the lucky number like many posters have said!!!

@68 Normally it does, but not if you've activated a bookcase and are looking at your inventory at the books to place in said inventory. I know it's been detailed in before comments, but to make it as clear as possible:
1) Have Oghma Infinium in inventory and activate a bookcase (you'll have one if you bought Breezehome in Whiterun and renovated the place).
2) Activate bookcase, scroll down to books, scroll to Oghma Infinium.
3) Press RT to read, choose path you want to read. Press B once to go back to inventory, then press X to store the book in the bookcase. Close the menu.
4) Activate the Oghma Infinium on the bookcase. Choose and take the book.
5) Repeat steps 2) to 4) until desired level. Save every few minutes so you don't have to start all over again if you accidentally click t

Hey everyone, for you to be able to come across a legendary dragon you HAVE to build up your character as high as possible... Level 70 is when they appear, HOWEVER its still very rare to find.. once you near level 80 (lvl 78/lvl 79) you should encounter one two or more as its much easier to find one.. lvl 81 is max level and can be tough to get this high, unless you use the Book Glitch, which in my opinion is pathetic, im a lvl 75 its been all my own hard work.. try not to glitch it as it takes the fun away from the game! Tho if u are despearate then glitch it, i still havent got it but i can guarentee you have to be atleast lvl 78 for you to see a few of them.....
hope this helps, my friend just got to lvl 78 and traveled to dawnstar and BAM one right away!

Bethesda or someone really needs to make a legit post on what level you need to be. I was level 50 or something when the DLC came out, and I have grinded to get to level 70. This is the last cheevo I need for this game and I can't find the dragon. My friend said he found one at level 63, but everyone else says level 78. I really don't believe that Bethesda would make it so you would have to get to level 78 because that just encourages cheating.

Tip for lvling.
This works better to magic based spells, go find a low lvl cave from the begining of your game with low lvl guys in, preferable a bandit, and get in combat, now just cast combat based spells, alteration: oakskin/stone skin conjuration: duel bound sword or with illusion just cast muffle out of combat. For restoration get in combat with some something hard hitting, not a giant, dragon or spell casters, duel wielding forlon worked for me, and just cast best heal spell, these give more in combat than out. make sure you have lover stone + one of the three stones your working on with the crown from lost to ages. hope this helps, the spells lvl quite quick, make sure you have magicka + heal pots also.

During this time I would spend an hour or so going to each site. When I couldn't find one I would work on leveling up and repeat the process. I went from level 71 up through level 78, but couldn't find my target anywhere.
Since this is my first play thru I had left the difficulty setting alone when I started they game. Since I know sometimes the difficulty can make a difference on what you fight in some games I decided to try bumping it up a notch (Adept to Expert).
I went to every site, but still no luck so, burned out, I exited the game and shut the console down for a day or so, taking a break.

Tonight I came back into the game, changed the difficulty back to Adept and was going to grind up to level 81. Instead I decided to make a quick tour of the dragon walls "just in case".
The first spot I went to had a Legendary dragon!
In fact, the first three spots all had one!
Not sure if it was the long break, the difficulty setting changes, or an amazing coincidence...

Right well after level grinding from 63 to 78 and 1/5, 928 saves and a total of 318 hours and 21 minutes across both my playthroughs; I finally have this game maxed out again. Did it all legit except from boosting my Speech from 83 to 100 via the Ungrien Persuasion glitch in Riften Black-Briar Meadery. 78 really is the magic number folks.

After getting Dawnguard at lvl 70, I finally encountered my first Legendary Dragon at lvl 78. So yeah, 78 seems to be the ticket. It was at Shearpoint if anyone was curious.
The Legendary I fought didn't seem that tough. In fact, I don't even think I took any damage (he didn't shout (breathe) at me once! Just used my trusty old Soulthief Daedric Bow and arrows of the same, and sent him to visit Alduin.

I got this achievement by accident. I was exploring the woods near Dawnguard castle when the dragon attacked a group of cave bears. I thought about ignoring the dragon but I went after it anyway and killed it as a werewolf. Achievement popped. I honestly thought the achievement was storyline related. I was level 81. Honestly, go to youtube and check out the Ohgma Infinitum glitch. I grinded until level 56 before I found it. It's worth it.

I finally got this damn achievement. When I started Dawnguard I was level 66. I must have killed 150 dragons or so and never saw a Legendary. I leveled up during this time thinking (hoping) that the higher my level the higher my chances.
After I hit 79 I did a dragon run hitting all shrines and Arcwind Point (12 dragons iirc) and all but 2 were Legendary. I was amused and aggravated. But at least I got my last cheevo.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but the facts are the facts - get to level 78 through grinding or glitching and this is yours - I went to Lost Tongue Overlook at level 77 and there was a revered dragon waiing for me - I reloaded and went back to leveling and got to 78 fairly qickly - went back to Lost Tongue Overlook and a legendary dragon was waiting for me, guarding the word wall - I took no damage, as he turned his attenton on my vampiric counterpart, and I basically shot him in the ass with my bow - the point is, up until level 77 he was not there, and at 78 he appeared so I could claim my final 40g - happy to be done with a great piece of DLC.

You need to be a level 78 to have a Legendary dragon to appear barring a very rare encounter to do so... I started to hunt down a legendary dragon since level 68 and I never seen one until as soon as I hit 78 around Arcwind Point... Prior to level 78, all I encountered was Revered Dragons... Hope this helps because more than likely you'll need to be 78 or higher based on my experience and this also happened to all people and friends that also play Skyrim...

Hey everyone! I just got his achievement about 10 minutes ago, here's how: If you missed doing the glitch where you use the Oghma Infinium to level up AND updated the game, you'll have to restart the game from the beginning. If you missed it but did NOT do the update when you first created your character (or after), you can reload a previous save were you have not used the book and use it to reach level 81.
I had to restart the game in my case. Anyway, run through the campaign and make sure that you have not done the update. Also make sure that you create your new character without the update, as this will also patch the glitch. You have to be level 15 to complete the quest 'Discerning the Transmudane' and get the book so I recommend doing the whole campaign and levelling up. Once you'

re a high enough level, get the book and do the glitch like I did. I would recommend you go and buy new weapons as the weapons you have are probably rubbish compared to the level 81 weapons.
Then travel to any 'Dragon Lair's' as they always have dragons. If you go to towns and cities it is unlikely a Legendary Dragon will even spawn. Once you're there, there is a 50/50 chance of there being a Legendary Dragon. If there is, kill it and get the achievement. It can drop some great items, so keep travelling around all the lair's if you want to, to keep getting great items.
Note that you have to have the 'Dawnguard DLC' to have this achievement avaliable, what I mean is a Legendary Dragon will not spawn unless you have the dlc. Good luck if you're going to get this achievement!

I'm level 78 and found one at Mount Anthor. He literally turned up the minute I fast traveled there. He was surprisingly easy to kill, too. He tends to stay mostly airborne, circle you, then perch on a distant crag and hit you with shouts and fire breath, which are easy to shield and dodge. I took him out by just repeatedly peppering him with my dwarven crossbow. I've had a much harder time killing ancients.
So if you're at least level 78 (which several players have said is the lowest level they first appear), try Mount Anthor if you haven't yet.

BTW, anyone still at a fairly low level: if you haven't made use of the Oghma Infinium glitch, that will shoot you up to 78 in no time. You have to do it just right, though, or the book may just disappear. Here's how.
1) Go to bookcase and press A for Read Oghma Infinium. 2) Press A for "Do Not Read". 3) Press A to "Take". 4) Press A to Activate Bookshelf. 5) Go into your own inventory under Books and hit RT to Read Oghma Infinium. 6) Choose whichever path you like. 7) B to close book. 8) X to store. 9) B to close menu. 10) Save your game. 11) Repeat....
Deviating from that order could lose you the book.

I am sorry, but this achievement is stupid on Bethesdas part. First off an achievement like this should be worth more then 40G. The time it takes to reach a level high enough(speculated to be around 70 or above) is way to long for only 40G. And yes I know of the Infinium book glitch. As it so happens I already had a save where I glitched to 81. Went to that save and sat there for forever going between dragon peaks/lairs to no avail. Even tried going between most of the cities to no avail. Honestly the only way to of made this achievement worth it would be to make it at least where there is a place that is scripted to have a legendary dragon. Also achievements should never be based on any amount of luck or chance to get, they should be based on skill even if the amount of skill to get them

is very low. I got so mad at this game that I gave up on the cheevo and went on a rampage through every major city/town leaving no one alive. I love skyrim with all it's content, but with all the glitches and bugs in it this 40G cheevo isn't worth the hassle needed to get it. This may go down as one of the worst achievements that I have ever had the misfortune of attempting.

Huh, someone's bitter. Anyway, Update 1.9 should allow for a quicker level up system...kind of. Once you get skills to 100 you can reset them to become "Legendary" skills and then continue leveling them up. This will essentially allow you to level up other skill sets that you use more often or that are easier to level up. I guess we'll see how it goes when it comes out for consoles later this month.

my solution and it works!
18.03.13 all patches and updates.
For this you need a partner.
1. Begin to trade with him and give him Oghma Infinium book by pressing A.
2. Choose what you want in a book by pressing A.
3. Pass the book companion pressing X, this is important because if you do not, then the book will be lost.
4. Come out of the exchange and again we go, pick up a book by pressing A.
5. Put the book on the bookshelf pressing X.
6. Picking up a book from the bookshelf, but do not read it.

So I played through Dragonborn for some fun and levelled up to 81 before coming back to this. I tried Arcwind Point first on Master difficulty (as I've read a lot of speculation that playing on a higher difficulty helps) and got a Legendary Dragon straight away. I didn't go to Arcwind at level 78 because I wasn't aware then that it had a good reputation for spawning Legendary Dragons, but did go to Lost Tongue Overlook and only got a crappy basic Dragon.
I then just needed to ride another 4 dragons for Dragonrider so turned the difficulty down to novice and started going to

Got cut off..
I then just needed to ride 4 dragons for Dragonrider so turned the difficulty down to novice and started going to any old dragon shrine. On novice difficulty I got Legendary Dragons at Shearpoint and Eldersblood Peak. I honestly don't know if there's any truth to Legendary Dragons spawning more at certain locations, but for me the key seems to have been just levelling up.

This just got way easier thanks to the legendary skill option. Just level enchanting up to 100 and get the first 5 perks for it. Next enchant 4 items with fortify alteration and each will make alteration spells cost 27% less (meaning no magika will be used when casting). The only 4 items you can enchant this way are
any helmet or circlet
any armor or robes
Get the spell detect life and dual cast it in a major city. Alteration will be 100 in about 30 minutes and you can just keep making it legendary when it gets to 100. You will level up to 78 in no time.

For a bunch of RPG players you sure don't know shit about RNG...
"Magic" number hit, fast travelling around might get you one, about the same as player the lottery each week might get you a winning ticket. Its chance, you can' force trigger it, you can help by fast travelling to dragon places and known spawn points but otherwise its not, land here, run here, ride here, fast travel here and it will spawn. Also, and i could be wrong as im still 54 but only 1 legendary skill, talk of starting over seems ridiculous. You had bad lucky, you continue to have bad luck, but it will show. Be thankful its not seriously 4.0 and the only kill count is from dragons. ;)

You get to fight legendary boys at around lvl 72ish. These guys are pretty wimp like. Nothing compared to the ebony warrior. That guy will one hit kill you. In fact i doubt anyone has ever beaten him on the first try. He engages you at lvl 81 and tells you to meet him on a mountain so he can fight to his death. Pretty badass.

Was trying to find one at level 51. Read all these posts and learned gotta be at least 75-81. I buffed up on magicka as much as i could. I used Muffle over and over again. Using that I mastered the Illusion Spells up to 100 and met Drevis at the College of Winterhold. He gave me the quest Illusion Ritual Spell and then purchased the Harmony Spell from Drevis. Used that over and over and Legendary'd the Illusion Spells about 7 times but I went from level 58 to 81 in about an hour

If anyone still needs a way to level fast, here's one that doesn't seem to have been mentioned: the Fortify Restoration glitch. Super simple - collect enough ingredients to make about a dozen Fortify Restoration potions & another dozen Fortify Enchantment potions. Craft a set of strong Alchemy-strenghening gear, put it on. Make a Fortify Restoration potion. Quit Alchemy. Go into your inventory, take off the Alchemy gear, then put it back on. Drink the Fortify Restoration potion you just made. Repeat about a dozen times, and notice the strength of your Alchemy gear. Now, make Fortify Enchantment potions and notice the strength of those. Now all you need to do is decide which skill you want to power level (Smithing is easy), drink a Fortify Enchantment potion and craft some gear for that ski

ll. Put on the gear and go use that skill, and see how fast you level up. I used Smithing and went from 61-81 (and got about 8 Legendary levels) in about 5 minutes. Now I just need to go traipsing around to the dragon mounds! Cheers!

Made my block skill prestige 7 after I was level 51 combat level. Didn't have the perks or ingredients to level with restoration potion glitch. Leveled block to 100 every 13-14 minutes and combat level up 3 times each time. Used Decent armor and used the perks earned from leveling to max out the blocking effective perk every time I was able. Took me 3 hours to do this. Also, I had a bandit marauder mace me the whole time from 40 block to 100 block 7th prestige. Met my legendary dragon at Bonestrewn Crest.

I wore Archmage's Robes, Morokei (Dragon Priest's mask, which is light armor), and Stalhrim boots and gauntlets. The robes and mask made my Magicka regenerate 200% faster. Morokei is light armor, while the Stalhrim equipment was heavy armor. Went and fought a cave bear. Getting hit, I rose my Light and Heavy armor. I kept casting Oakflesh which rose Alteration. Then when my health got low, I used Health to raise Restoration. Time consuming, but an easy way to level up 4 skills at once.

For the dragon to spawn I believe you need to be at least level 78. A good and easy way to do get to level 78 is to get far enough along in the Dark Brotherhood so that you get Shadowmere. Just stand by Shadowmere and use Soul Trap and Courage on it to boost your Conjuration and Illusion skills. Now that the Legendary System or whatever it's called is implemented (the system which enables you to set for example Illusion back to 20), you can boost these two skills over and over until you're high enough level so that a legendary dragon will spawn. Then just travel here and there and it shuold pop up eventually. Killing it should not be a problem, but bring some potions just in case!

Another Somewhat easy, but time consuming way of leveling up, is through smithing. First, wear armor and accessories that will increase your carrying capacity. Then go to any hold, preferably Whiterun because you'll have access to two blacksmiths. Obviously for this to work, money need no longer be an issue. Then proceed to buy all ingots from Adrianne Avenicci then Eorlund Gray-Mane, and start making armor. Evony, Glass, Orcish, and Dwarven are some of the best, a few of each is equivalent to a smithing level. Then fast forward two days, and both blacksmiths will have restocked on everything. Rinse and repeat, until satisfied...or bored out of your mind. :]
P.S: from everything I've read, legendary dragons should befall your path when you're level 70+, rarely before that.

Went into Gameplay settings switched it to "Legendary" traveled to Autumnwatch Tower. Killed the regular Dragon at the Autumnwatch Tower then I traveled South from there saw an opening between trees for a path took it all the way to Discover Arcwind Point and bam there the Legendary Dragon was.
I'm Level 86 going on 87 btw.
If anyone needs a map on the location:
Type in Autumnwatch Tower and Arcwind Point after in the search bar.
I turned the difficulty down to Novice he had alot of health even for Novice play.

Well, I just got this achievement and I can tell you: getting to Level 78 is more of a pain than the dragon. But, like always I found a very easy way of getting to this level in no time. I went from lvl 58 to 79 in about 2.5 hours. You are going to need Rout for this (it's an illusion spell). I chose Rout cause it's an Expert spell. I never tried any of the others although they might work as well.
Note: This spell may be purchased from Drevis Neloren, at the College of Winterhold, once the Dragonborn reaches a skill level of 60 in Illusion.
Then I went to any Stormcloak camp (I sided with the Imperials. I don't know if this matters but I didn't check the Imperial camps cause they were friendlies) and I looked for a tent where they keep their crippled. There should be around three of

There should be around three of them in pain. Now the fun yet soon boring: equip Rout on both hands. Now spam the spell taking turns with each hand. Just pretend your character is climbing a ladder. I would mumble one, two till I got the rhythm right. Now there is a leader that can't be killed either so shoot him with it as well and he should run away. Once you get to Illusion lvl 100 then just go to skills, go to illusion, press Y for Legendary, and it should go back to lvl 15. Then just spam the spell into that tent and you should level about 2-3 more times before you need to go Legendary again. My Illusion has gone thru Legendary 7 times over. That was enough to get me to lvl 79. The best part is that it's legit! It feels like cheating but getting there from just killing and doing missi

Confirming that you will find one once reaching level 78 at either Arcwind Point or Autumnwatch Tower.. I was level 77 just doing the ''Tame and Ride 5 dragons achievement'' and highest Dragons I ran into were Ancient and Revered. Soon as I hit 78, I fast traveled to Autumnwatch Tower and boom, it's there right on top of the tower... One also spawned for me in the distance, but eventually flew off. Killed the one that spawned at Autumnwatch Tower in one hit with my DragonBone Bow. Also playing on Legendary difficulty. Happy hunting guys!

I boosted my level to 78 by going to high hrothegar (sp?) With a dagger in one hand and an illusion spell (muffled movement) in the other. Went into sneak mode and just alternated between hitting one of the Grey beards with my dagger and casting my spell. Only hit the gray beard when you're unseen and he won't attack back. I did this on the legendary difficulty so he didn't take damage. My stealth, illusion, and one handed went up relatively quickly. Get the perks to be harder to detect (stealth) and use less magicka (illusion) as soon as they become availible. This was the best and easiest method I could find. Dragon was at arcwind point.

This also works with the Invisibility spell which is an expert lvl spell too. I didn't had the Rout spell and had an Illusion lvl of 30, so I couldn't buy the Rout spell but i had the Invisibility spell which I found during the Dragonborn DLC. I suggest making a whole set of items with magika, magika regen and illusion enchantments, taking some scrolls with you that you will sell to Drevis Neloren. Then go to the College of Winterhold and start spamming the Invisibility spell till you get close to Level up. Every Level Up Drevis can train you 5 lvl of Illusion Magic, so make sure you use this little help as late as possible before you Level Up to save yourself using that spell up to 200 times. Also be aware that Drevis can only train Illusion up to lvl 90 and you will spend a lot of money(

(i paid him 70 000 gold so far). At Illusion lvl 75 you can buy the expert illusion perk which is a little help too. there is also the perk to dual cast the spell which helped me to cast the spell faster and more regularly. I boosted my lvl from 60 to 70 that way, making the Illusion skill Legendary 3 times so far.
Apart from that i have to say that the Level Boosting is one of the most stupid and boring things i have ever experienced in a video game. But being the last missing achievo i can't stop either.
