Complete 5 successive laps within a quarter of a second of each other
If playing legitimately, this is by far the hardest achievement in F1 2011. You will have to work on your consistency as a driver to post 5 laps successively that are within 0.25 seconds of each other. For the average driver, this will require a lot of practice and patience as even the slightest mistake will void your run and 0.25 seconds doesn't allow any room for screw-ups.
Here are some tips to help you practice for consistent lap times:
Use the Red Bull. It is the smoothest car to drive and has the best traction.
Know your braking points and stick to them. Try to find markers around the track that make it easier to set up a braking point you can remember.
Stick with your shifting-rhythm, meaning: try to downshift on each corner like you did in the previous lap.
Use KERS and DRS on the same parts of the track on each lap.
Don't force it. If you're not having any luck, stop your session and unwind a little - trying to force it usually makes your lap times worse.
Luckily, you are allowed any and all driver assists.
Really hard. I would try putting your car in manual, keeping it in first gear, full racing line, and just follow the line in first gear. That's the easiest way I think it would work, but I haven't actually tried it yet.
just found a really easy way do time attack and go round the track in first gear all the way and on the next lap you can see your ghost car from the previous lap so you can easily judge it. did it in five laps no problems
If you do it in first you can match your ghost easier.
Also the trick I found was to match the ghost as best you can so that when you look around you cannot see it at all, when you look forward you don't see its location arrows, when you look backwards you see its location arrow.
Do this, match your ghost so that you are a couple of hundreths slower at the second timer and do the same line for the last corner. You should end up slightly slower than your best lap.
The Brazil circuit is a good one for this. It's simple, has a short lap time and a long run up the start/finish straight. That way you can go slowly over the line making it easy to match your ghost. I actually cut a corner by mistake, making one lap invalid but the achievement popped up anyway at the start of lap 6.
Tbh, this achievement is easily done on any circuit as long as you're fairly decent on the game. I did this by accident on a 100% race on Malaysia in the Williams part way through the race.
If you go for the achievement it may be hard as you'll be constantly worrying about the next corner and whether you screw up. I didn't go for it and just decided to play the game and was pleasantly surprised when the achievement popped up.
I kept messing this up on Brazil and other tracks, I don't think there are any tracks with no sharp corners. However as mentioned by #9 BanzaiMike above, you can cut corners in time trial and the achieve will still pop. So
Do time trial on Monza in 1st gear. At the first chicane, cut the chicane completely. This will make tire marks in the grass, which you can follow on the next lap. The second chicane can actually be made in 1st gear, but cut it if you like. On the final corner, keep exactly on racing line on your first lap. This way, if your slightly behind, you can take the last corner on the inside line. If your slightly ahead, take a slightly wider line.
Make sure you're always very slightly behind your first lap, which makes it alot easier to see if you are within .250 of your
(continued) first lap. If you go faster, each lap, you get further and further away from your first lap, and it makes it harder to calculate on the fly, how close your 5th lap is to your first. If you never beat your first lap, then the split time is always how far you are from you first lap.
Stop in front of the finish line, and wait for the same moment to accelerate. And do this with full accelerate. (Maybe easier if you use the 2. default controller settings with button "A" to accelerate.) The best stage for it is the Brasilian, because it is very short and not so tricky.
