Trouble on the Homefront

Completed "Trouble on the Homefront"

This quest will not be available until after completing The Waters of Life. Once you have done that, return to Vault 101 (where you grew up) and tune in to the radio frequency on your PipBoy. You will find a distress signal from Amata. Head into the vault. From here you have a large variety of ways to finish the quest. I chose to simply convince her to stay in the vault. see the link below for all the options.

See Trouble on the Homefront for more specific info.

Note: This is your last chance to grab the bobblehead on your father's desk.

Caution: This may become unavailable if you load up DLC before completing it.

Listen to the Distress Signal AS SOON AS YOU PICK IT UP! After I finished "Waters of Life" I did "Operation: Anchorage" and I can no longer get this quest. It seems there's a glitch. Once you pick up the signal, if you attempt any DLC mission before this one, the signal disappears. I do not know how or if you can ever get the signal again, I had to reload an old save to get the achievement. I would still like to do the mission with my better character though, so if anybody reads this and knows a solution, please share it.

It's not a glitch. You have to start the quest fairly soon after you pick up the radio signal. Otherwise the signal disappears and you can no longer complete the quest, even if you don't play any DLC.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. But it makes sense, I believe most DLCs take at least a month in in-game time to complete. I looked online and some people seem to get the signal back after returning from the Pitt. I feel like that's B.S. but I will hope it works for me since I'm doing that DLC last, as I was told it is the weakest of the bunch.

Either way I just hope somebody sees these comments by us b/c I was using this site a lot for this game and I feel like there should be some warning that this achievement IS missable. Luckily, I had multiple saves but some people may not be so fortunate.

Damn I should have read before, I guess I have lost the achievement. I have played Operation Anchorage but haven't completed Waters of Life

Thank goodness I didn't lost the achievement as I didn't had an old save simply there is a limit to complete this mission. If you complete 2 or more missions or spend too much time the distress signal will go away. OR If you start the DLC mission The Pitt or Anchorage the mission won't be available once you complete DLC.

So as soon as you unlock this mission, COMPLETE IT without wasting time. There is a solution to the problem, If you buy Point Lookout the Signal will be permanently available

FOR GOD SAKE DO THIS BEFORE ANY DLC!!!!!!! I just finished up Point Lookout and came back to do this...can't do it. :'( I went back and started off in my saves from before I went to Point Lookout and that works but, I lost all the stuff I collected there. :'(

Ok this is what you do go back in your saves do the quest then continue from your save point that's after the DLC. So, then this quest is like an isolated save aside from your regular game.

Ok, get all the achievements for the DLC that you did. Then go back in your saves to before the DLC so you can do this achievement. UGH sorry guys. I screwed myself over on this one and I'm trying to figure out the best way around it for myself.

I was wondering why the signal wouldn't pop up after the waters of life and i got my character up to lv26 but the signal still hadn't come. After I finished the last mission of all the dlc's the signal popped up. its worth a try if you can't get the signal

I didn't have any problems getting this quest. I did the waters of life and didn't even realise there was a signal after it. Then went on and did another main quest, roughy 6 or 7 side quests and plenty of exploration which took a long long time!
Finally got around to doing this so just went to the radio on my pip boy & scrolled down to the 'vault 101 emergency freq' and played it outside vault 101. Automated voice came on, then Amata and bingo, she gave me the password and the quest was added.
Doesn't appear to be time sensitive or anything. Hope this helps for anyone who is having problems!
