Introduction
FIFA 14 is the annual soccer release from EA, following in the heels of the launch of FIFA 13 last year on Windows Phone. The base game is free, but only includes a fantasy-draft style Ultimate Team mode, Penalty Shootout, and the ability to play a few weekly games that are actually concurrently taking place in the real world. For $4.99, you can purchase the rest of the game, which will give you the ability to play in leagues, tournaments, and exhibition games. Luckily, all 20 achievements can be obtained quite easily without spending any money. As mentioned, the game is currently listed as FREE in the Windows Phone Store.

Step 1: Penalty Shootout achievements (3 for 35:gsicon:)
The first step will be completing the three achievements related to the Penalty Shootout. You will want to play as the best team and oppose one of the worst teams. Once you get the hang of scoring and goalkeeping, these achievements will be simple. There is a bit of luck involved in goalkeeping, but overall it shouldn't prove too much of a challenge. These achievements could all be done in a single game, but more than likely will take 20-30 minutes to unlock them for a typical player.

Step 2: Miscellaneous achievements (16 for 155:gsicon:)
The rest of the achievements can be obtained by playing (and replaying) Games of the Week. This mode offers up 6 games per week that are actually occurring in real life. Make sure you are playing on the easiest difficulty (Beginner) and all of the achievements will be a breeze. See the individual achievements below for the best method to unlock them all. You should be able to knock all 16 of these achievements out in one hour or less. They are very straightforward.

Step 3: Grind to 100 matches (1 for 10:gsicon:)
Your last achievement, "Pro Player", will require that you complete 100 matches. This can be done by repeatedly playing Games of the Week over and over, without even actively playing the games (remember, you only need to play, not win, 100 games). Setting the half time to the shortest value means games will take roughly five minutes. Depending how efficient you were in Steps 1 and 2, you will probably need to grind anywhere from 80 to 90 games. This is where the bulk of the completion time for this game resides. Paying $4.99 will cut your grind time in half. See "Pro Player" for more information.

Conclusion
FIFA 14's freemium model may not be ideal for players that want the complete soccer experience. However, the achievements are unaffected and can all be earned entirely for free with little if any skill required.

NOTE: The guide is written assuming you are using Classic controls, not Touch controls. You can toggle these before starting each match.

ADVANTAGE OF PAID CONTENT: If you break down and spend $4.99 for the game to unlock the various additional game modes, it will make the completion much quicker as you can simulate those matches. Instead of 10 to 12 hours, you are looking at more like 4 to 6 hours. See "Pro Player" for more information.

GLITCHY ACHIEVEMENT WARNING: All of the achievements in the game appear to be susceptible to glitching. When you meet the requirements, you will get the in-game EA achievement but the Xbox achievement will not pop (green banner will not show). If this happens, there is no way to unlock the achievement without reinstalling the game and losing all of your progress. The exact cause has not been identified yet, but it is believed to be related to connectivity to the EA Origin servers, which constantly disconnects regardless of your actual internet connection.

[XBA would like to thank Arsenic 17 for this roadmap]

A Handful Of Goals15
Score 5 goals in a match - with the same player.

These achievements require that you score 3 and 5 goals in a single match with a single player. This is easily obtainable in any Game of the Week. As soon as you switch to or pass to a player, their name will be displayed briefly. Focus on always passing the ball to the same player (one of your strikers is ideal), then sprinting down the field and shooting. Before the match starts, on the screen after selecting sides, you can change the length of the halves by adjusting the slider at the bottom. If you are concerned about not getting this, set the slider to the longest possible time, 10 minutes.

A Job Well Done10
Win by scoring with all your starting line-up attackers.

This achievement requires that you score at least one goal with each of the attackers in your starting line-up. Before starting a Game of the Week match, tap the Squad tab at the top. Here you can see and set your starting line-up. Make sure your formation is set to Default. This formation only has one attacking position, shown as the player at the top. Remember this player's name and make sure to score a goal with him. The achievement will unlock at the end of the game.

Ace from the Spot10
Win the Penalty Shootout Minigame without missing any shots.

This achievement requires that you win a Penalty Shootout without missing a single shot. From the Main Menu, choose Play at the top, then Penalty Shootout. You will want to play as a good team and match up again a bad team. Choose Real Madrid (in the Liga BBVA league) for your team (you should be the team on the left), and oppose FC Lausanne (in the Raiffeisen SL league). This will ensure you have the better shooters and goalkeeper.

You will need to make 100% of your shots and win the shootout, regardless of how many rounds the game goes. As long as you score on every shot, the achievement will unlock. The easiest way to do this is to score on your first three shots and save the first three shots by the opponent, ending the game after three rounds and unlocking this achievement.

Scoring is fairly simple in this game. All you need to do is drag your finger from the ball to the exact location in the goal where you want to put it. The faster you drag, the more power the shot will have. Aim for the upper left or right corners of the net. This will result in a goal 90% of the time, even if you lob the ball slowly. You should have no problem earning this achievement in a couple of tries.

Aerial Threat5
Score with a header after a cross.

This achievement requires that you score on a header after crossing it over. Basically what you need to do is get the ball and take it into one of the offensive corners of the field. Dribble around until your teammates set up in from of the net on the far side. Use the two finger swipe towards the offensive zone on the screen to set your team into Attack mentality if they are not crashing the net area. From the corner, cross the ball over by aiming towards the middle of the field and long-holding the pass button. This will make an aerial cross towards the middle of the field. While the ball is in the air, tap shoot and aim towards the net. If the ball goes to one of your other players, they will attempt score out of mid-air. Sometimes this will be a header, sometimes it will be something else. There is a little bit of luck involved here. Eventually you will get the header animation and if the ball goes in, the achievement will unlock instantly.

Attacking Rage15
Win a game with 10+ shots on goal and 70% shot accuracy.

This achievement requires that you win a game while taking 10 or more shots and maintaining 70% or more accuracy. This is quite simple to do on Beginner difficulty. Set the half length to longer if you think you wont be able to reach 10 shots. Every time you get near the net and press the shoot button counts as a shot. 70% of the shots you take must go in or be saved by the goalkeeper. Blocked shots don't effect your accuracy, but shots the miss the net and go out of bounds do. Your strategy will be to dribble close to the net and shoot as much as possible. You can check you total shots and accuracy (divide Shots on Target by Total Shots) mid-game by pressing the pause button and selecting Facts. Once you get more than 10 shots with at least 70% of them on target, feel free to not take anymore shots. Just let the clock run out. The achievement will unlock at the end of the game.

Clean sheet10
Finish a match without conceding a goal.

This achievement requires that you finish a game without giving up a single goal. Playing on Beginner difficulty in a Game of the Week, it will almost be impossible not to get this achievement. The opposing team will be terrible. Simply finish the game without giving up a goal (even a 0-0 tie will do) to unlock this achievement.

Double Hero15
Win the Penalty Shootout by having your keeper defend AND score a goal.

This achievement requires that you win a Penalty Shootout and have your goalkeeper score a goal and make at least one save. To get to Penalty Shootout, from the Main Menu, tap the Play tab. Choose any two teams you like (preferably your team should be better). Before loading into the match, navigate to the Lineups tab and take note of your goalkeeper's name. When you load in, you need to adjust the line-ups so that your goalkeeper will shoot first. Highlight the player in the number one position. Then scrolls down and highlight the goalkeeper (he will most likely be number 11). This will swap the goalie into the first shooting position. Now you just need to score with the goalkeeper on the first shot, make at least one save with the goalkeeper, and then go on to win the shootout. If you fail to score with the goalkeeper, immediately pause and restart the shootout. You will need to place the goalkeeper in the first shooting position upon each restart.

Fairplay10
Receive no yellow or red cards during a match.

See "Feather touch".

Feather touch10
Have no fouls awarded against your team in a match.

This achievement requires that you complete an entire match without committing a single foul. Unlocking this achievement will also unlock "Fairplay", which requires that you don't get carded for an entire game. On Beginner difficulty, it is hard to actually get a foul. As long as you avoid using the "Slide" button while on defense, you should be good to go. You can always just load up a game and do nothing the entire match. There is a small chance that one of your AI teammates will commit a foul. To counter these odds, make sure you are playing with the half length set to 2 minutes (the minimum). Both "Feather touch" and "Fairplay" will unlock at the end of the game.

First Step5
Win your first match.

This achievement simply requires that you win a single match by scoring more goals than your opponent. If the match ends in a draw, be sure to enter a Penalty Shootout to go for the win.

Getting Out There10
Win a match with teams from three different leagues.

This achievement requires that you win a match with a teams from three different leagues. This can only be obtained by playing Games of the Week. In general, each Game of the Week will be from a different league. Simply play and win three different Games of the Week. To be sure, from the Main Menu, you can swipe the Games of the Week tile left and right. It will display three different matches and will also outline the league for which the match is taking place in. Verify three different leagues and then play and win those specific matches.

Hat Trick10
Score 3 goals in a match - with the same player.

See "A Handful of Goals".

Natural born talent20
Score a goal with your GK!

This achievement requires that you score a goal with your goalkeeper. While in a game on Beginner difficulty, pass the ball backwards to your goalkeeper. Once he has it, use sprint to dribble the entire way down the field, cutting through defenders with ease. Make your best move and shoot to score. This is very easy to do and will take a few tries or less in most cases.

One on One5
Score after going 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper.

This achievement requires that you score a goal while being one-on-one with the goalkeeper. On Beginner difficulty, take one of your attacking players with the ball and make a bee-line for the net. You need to pass all the defenders so that no one stands between you and the net. Then you shoot and beat the goalkeeper for the score. This is so easy it will come without effort, possibly being your first achievement.

Playmaker5
Score after receiving a decisive pass from a midfielder.

This achievement requires that you score a goal after receiving a decisive pass from a mid-fielder. Mid-fielders are the players that cover the middle part of the field. You need to take the midfielder down beside the opponent's net with the ball and pass it across the net and jam it home with another player. The description is a little vague, but more than likely you will get this without trying in one of your first few games.

Pro player10
Play 100 matches.

This achievement requires that you play a cumulative total of 100 matches to completion. All Games of the Week and Ultimate Team games count towards this achievement. The quickest way to unlock this one is to repeatedly keep playing a Game of the Week over and over with the half length set to two minutes. Each match will take about 5 minutes total including load times. At this pace, 100 matches will take around 8 hours to complete. Remember, you don't need to win the matches, just complete them. Keeping this in mind, you do not need to actively be paying attention while you grind. Just make sure to do kickoffs and bring the ball back in bounds when needed. If time expires and you are tied, end the match as a draw. After the match, choose Continue and then pick another Game of the Week. Choosing Rematch risks not saving your progress from the previous game.

ALTERNATIVE AND FASTER METHOD *REQUIRES FULL-GAME $4.99 PURCHASE*: Load up Manager Mode and select a team and get all the introductory tasks out of the way. Before starting each match, in the jersey-selection screen, you can choose to simulate the game. Watch the clock during the simulation and press the check mark button to load into the game when the clock is around 85 minutes. Finish the game and you will get credit for an entire game played. Each game will take 2 to 3 minutes to complete, including simulation and load times.

Shot stopper10
Win the Penalty Shootout without conceding any goals.

This achievement requires that you win a Penalty Shootout without conceding a single goal.

You will need to save 100% of the other team's shots and win the shootout, regardless of how many rounds the game goes. As long as you save every shot, the achievement will unlock. The easiest way to do this is to score on your first three shots and save the first three shots by the opponent, ending the game after three rounds and unlocking this achievement.

Saving the ball in this game is fairly luck-based. As the opponent is moving to shoot, you will need to choose a direction for your goalkeeper to attempt a save. Tap your goalkeeper and drag to the location in the net you want him to dive. You cannot wait until the shot is on the way as it will be too late. You must guess before the shot is taken. If you are playing against a bad opponent, it is best to dive either low left or low right, as the shooters will rarely be able to pick an upper corner. If at any point you concede a goal, pause and restart. After starting, the shooters will often make the same shot they just took, so use that to your advantage to dive the correct direction.

See "Ace from the Spot" for tips on scoring in the Penalty Shootout.

Sniper5
Score from an offensive free kick. (1)

This achievement requires that you score from an offensive free kick. This is one of the trickier achievements in the game. An offensive free kick must be taken from the offensive zone (on your opponent's side of the center line). From the free kick, you must shoot and score. Free kicks are awarded when the other team commits a foul.

The tricky part about this achievement is that the opposing team rarely commits fouls, and when they do, it usually won't put you in a good position to score. The best strategy for this is to first make sure you set the difficulty to Beginner and then play as a 5-star team against a 1-star team. Then you should sprint through the defense to get to a situation where you are one on one with the goalie. As you enter the penalty box, the keeper will charge you. At this point, you need to turn around and start running away from the goalie. The keeper will chase you. Go slow and bait him to continue following you if he seems to start going back to the net. If you got him to follow you well enough, he will chase you out of the penalty box. When he is about to get close to you make sure you are moving with the ball. The keeper is very aggressive and will dive face first to grab the ball. At least 50% of the time, if you are touched in any way by the keeper and trip, it will be a foul. The challenge is to lure the keeper out. It may take some practice, but once you get a hang of how the keeper moves and speed you need to pull away from him, he will constantly be chasing you out into free kick territory. See my video below for the technique. Sorry for the bad quality!

When you finally do earn the free kick, you will be presented with a wall of defenders blocking your shot to the goal. They will only be able to cover part of the net. Look for the larger opening to the net, either to the right or left of the wall. The goalkeeper should be occupying that position. You will need to precisely place your shot into the upper corner of the net. Drag your finger from the ball directly to the corner of the net where you want to score. Put a little zip on it to increase your chances of scoring (by swiping faster). However, on Beginner difficulty, you should have no problem scoring as long as your placement is good. The goalkeeper is unlikely to save the shot. As soon as the ball hits the back of the net, the achievement will unlock.

Win the derby10
Win a match between two rival teams.

This achievement requires that you win a match between two rival teams. Often the Games of the Week will be between two rivals. Read each game's description and if they mention the word "derby" at all, those two teams are rivals. Play and win that particular match to unlock this achievement.

Woodwork & In!10
Score off the post or cross bar in a match.

This achievement requires that you score a goal off the post or cross-bar. This is mostly luck-based and happens relatively frequently. Just keep shooting to score and eventually you will get the lucky bounce required to pop this achievement. I also found that hitting a post with an initial shot, not scoring, and then banging in the rebound unlocked this achievement as well.
