Lone Wolf Legend
Completed the Campaign solo on Legendary difficulty.
Campaign related. Online not required. Must be obtained on Legendary.
Exploit! An exploit has been discovered that enables you to get this achievement while playing the entire game at a lower then Legendary difficulty setting. Play through the game on Normal. Then play each level on Legendary, starting from the last Rally Point in each mission. It tricks the game into thinking you've played each level entirely on Legendary.
If getting it legitamately, there are a couple ways to play this difficulty setting effectively. You can playthrough the levels Slow or Fast.
Slow - Pace yourself and kill every last enemy, get a checkpoint and continue playing this way checkpoint after checkpoint. Spending 45 - 60 minutes per level.
Fast - Rush the enemy, grab only the weapons/ammo for enemies you must fight. You are looking to get to checkpoints with as little resistance as possible, beating the level under 10 - 15 minutes.
You can use both these methods interchangeably, sometimes you will get to a point where you must clear the area of all enemies before moving on. Adopt a method you feel comfortable with.
If stuck at an objective, make sure your keep trying it in new and different ways to see if there is a better alternative to completing each checkpoint.

Didn't notice this at 1st thought 'The Legend of 117' was the solo legendary. 5 campaign completion cheevos is overkill, 3 would have been enough.
Wake Up, John 20
Completed the Campaign on Normal or harder.
I Need a Hero 40
Completed the Campaign on Heroic or harder.
Completed the Campaign cooperatively on Heroic or harder.
The Legend of 117 70

Alot of the vidocs are saying this one will be the hardest yet because of the new battle adaptions based on the number of enemies and location, not to mention knights are built to be tougher than elites. However I have been beating halo legendary solo for a long time. I remember going through the first over and over just to practice when it was the only option. Halo has made a huge impact. I was kinda sad to see this being lower than reach's but it makes sense. Don't remember halo 2 being that hard but I will find out in a few days when I play through it again. I don't really view it as hard but as a different gameplay entirely and when i go back to normal I just feel invincible. Takes alot of time though. (for me)

This achievement's gonna be insane, I had trouble on heroic, but to do this on Legendary alone is just hellish. Elites can pound on you and you can't do nearly as much to them. Your shields get low with maybe one or two plasma rounds and they just LOVE to throw grenades. All I can give for advice is to only shoot when necessary and take your time. ALOT of it.
Comment #82 by El Grunto 14
Wednesday, November 07, 2012 @ 07:29:56 PM
@81 some people prefer the autosentry but I always used a hardlight shield when it was available because to me having immediate cover is more valuable than an extra gun that serves as a short distraction. As for the elites, use a carbine, BR, DMR, magnum, light rifle, or really anything that has a powerfull scoped shot. If you can nail headshots you'll make quick work of elites.
Wednesday, November 07, 2012 @ 07:41:41 PM
@82 yeah, I've been trying to nail my headshots whenever I can, but damn they love hiding behind cover right at that last shot. The first mission was a bitch for me just because I lacked any good headshot weapon and there was a lack of ammo completely. and likely, I'll take the autosentry, it came in handy on heroic, it'll likely do the same on legendary.

I have found so far that elites just seem to go down that little bit easier with the promethean weapons. Seems to get through the shields quicker. Also the knights go down easy with e scattershot rounds up close or a clip of suppressor. I have tried picking knights off from distance and they take ages to kill. So I have been taking out the rest of there friends then getting in close and hitting the knights up close, after chucking an auto-sentry out to distract them.

Just finished the campaign!
I liked to pick off the enemies from afar with a scoped weapon, however long it took. Also if available, I'd go back to a previous area, pick up a decent weapon that I didn't mind spraying the ammo around with (i.e a needler), kill the enemies then go pick my old weapon back up.
The part with banshee in that small cave is a fecking pain! Getting shot at from all directions..

This was SUPER easy compared to Bungie Halo games.
Make sure you have some sort of headshot weapon on you at ALL times. It make crawlers, grunts, jackals, watchers a breeze. I recomend the Light Rifle because Forerunner ammo is EVERYWHERE.
When fighting Forerunners, leave the Knights for last. They're much easier to kill when no one else is around. Target the watchers first, if you're quick enough they won't spawn turrets and crawlers. Use your secondary to take out their shields and then BOOM, headshot.
Also, the stupid grenade that knights drop is awesome if you use it right. Try getting a direct hit and then shoot the crap out of them. The grenade will do a lot of damage but their quick to leave the sphere.
This same strategy goes for Covenant. Headshot grunts and

jackals before moving on to elites. Pick up a plasma pistol and take out their shields for a headshot.
Your secondary weapon may be tricky. When you find power weapons, use them quickly but on elites, knights, or vehicles. Because ammo is so dense you'll always find a good secondary weapon so use them while you can.
When you are playing a level with a lot of Forerunners, pick up the suppressor. Crawlers drop this weapon so you'll always have ammo for it.
Sorry this is such a long post but it using these strategies is what made it so easy for me.

Otherwise, not as difficult as I once thought, some problem areas yes as is in all of them, but reach had areas more difficult to get past than this. Longest I spent in one spot...30 minutes, thank you to the knights

Overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Play through it first on heroic to understand the new weapons and level design. It will help a ton since you already know what to expect.
Hardest part for me was on Mission 8 with the Crawlers. I chose to try and wait it out and kill them as they came to me, turns out they never stopped spawning and eventually the defense turrets go down and you're left alone. After 20 minutes of dying I chose to make a break for the portal, running past 10 or so Crawlers. I used my Hardlight shield for the entire duration, got lucky and made it through the portal.

Hardest part for me was in Mission 3. The area where there are all those Banshees and Ghosts. I didn't actually find mission eight that bad. When you get to rally point charlie go right instead of left and get an incineration cannon. Only use it for higher level knights, take down their shields and LightRifle them in the face.
You can also use the noob combo v2: Charged up boltshot, and light rifle. You have to get close though.
Last thing: Sentry Turret is dope in campaign.

Is that the part when the Elite runs for the Banshee? That part took me well over 30 minutes to complete, it was such a pain.
I tried starting off in the Banshee but you get blown up in seconds with the other Banshees and everything on the ground shooting at you. I got through it by using a Ghost to splatter anything I could, I just circled the map and took cover in a cave whenever my shields dropped. After most of the enemies on the ground were cleared I started to destroy the objectives. Then when I could progress I grabbed a Banshee and flew up to the exit.
I only used the Sentry Turret on Mission 8. Really helped to distract the Knights.

When I got the game , first thing i did was campain on Legendary. Liked it a lot and it was extra hard because i didnt know where to go at some points so making it easier to get shot in the butt. But still with just a few deaths and 1-1,5 hours gametime for each mission it was really a fun achievement to get.

This has been one of the hardest for me on solo and I've still got to do the last mission. Every mission takes a long time to take out all the enemies. I'm sure the majority of people finding it easy are speed running past most of the fights. Play it like a champ guys and take them all out. It's harder and takes longer.

Got it staying up till Sunday 2am. Definitely doable, but not impossible. Those Knights are a pain, especially the ones with the Binary Rifle. Light Rifle was my most used weapon, with Auto Sentry. Incinerator Cannon was perfect for Knights on Mission 8. Mission 5 "Reclaimer" is glitched; wait for Mammoth to stop moving before targeting the 2nd Particle Cannon.

This achievement wasn't bad at all. Personally, the difficulty didn't really seem like Legendary compared to the other Halo games. Run over the elite with the ghost
IMMEDIATELY get in the banshee and hit the banshee coming at you with a goo missile
strafe to your right in the banshee and immediately take out the ghost with another goo missile

Take out the banshees (Know where that other ghost is at all times)
Circle around the area in the sky and occasionally swoop down just enough to shoot a missile at the various hordes on the ground. Immediately swoop back up and recharge sheilds.
Once you thin the ranks out a bit go ahead and land and CAREFULLY take out the covenant near whatever generator thingy is populated the least.
Take out the generator and you should get checkpoint... It should be easier from here on out
*If you're banshee gets beat up while your thinning out the ranks on the ground land over by the other one and swap it out. (If it gets beat up before you take out the ghosts and banshees then you're already screwed dude)

Not to mention your execution and reaction time will improve pretty significantly. The problem I have with legendary is sometimes It seems like your survival in certain battles just depends on chance or luck.

First couple of levels were easy mode, but the Prometheans were a challenge. Tips; always use a boltshot on crawlers (if you're a good aim) as there is pretty much unlimited ammo lying around. Autosentry packs a decent punch on shielding and provides a great distraction, whereas hardlight shield slows you down, stops shields from recharging, and on legendary flails hard against promethean nades. Always have a headshot-capable rifle handy, and use a scattershot when you can (3 hits max KO).
Inferno cannons are great and capable of taking out a group of knights at once, and although binary rifles will absolutely destroy YOU they are not worth depending on; low ammo, slow fire rate, inaccurate and actually take a fair bit to kill the average knight.
Wednesday, November 21, 2012 @ 10:13:38 AM
@Vagrant you don't need to get in the banshees... to be honest getting in one is a liability and will make things hard. Kill the elite running to a banshee, pick up a plasma pistol from somewhere, EMP and jack/plasma nade the banshees. That way the grunts/jackals won't EMP you, and you won't get torn to pieces by everything else.

@139 you can play other missions on co-op it won't change your achievement progression. As long as you beat the mission it counts it doesn't matter if you do them one at a time or you decide to skip around. Do them on live if you want the master chief armor for online though. You have to be connected to waypoint for it to count. My advice for this achievement take your time, go back for weapons especially if they are weapons that are good for head shots. So battle rifle, DMR, beam rifle, Covenant Carbine etc if an enemy dropped those and you left them go back if you run out of ammo. Also, auto turret makes a great armor ability because of the help it gives and because it is a distraction. So after I did this, I received the biggest patch of achievements ever. If you're starting in the game, just start the campaign on Legendary. Try to do the level specific achievements on the way, and when you get to the end, you will not only get the Lone wolf and Legend of 117, you will also get the complete the campaign on heroic and normal. On top of that, you will gain the 8 level achievements and if you have the pacience, get all the terminals.
That will be a big step towards you getting all the achievements in this game. Then just go on to Spartan Ops.

cant believe i done this cheevo haha best to take your time most missions took up to a hr or so its not as hard if you go through on Normal/Heroic first then you know where to go so i was able to do the harder objectives first then do easier ones, stay back use ranged weapons when possible, using plasma pistol to take elites shields down then using DMR/BR/Pistol to Headshot them once helps alot for knights it can be different most times i used alot of weapons just to take one down if you can get the launcher they carry around that can kill them in one.
The Composer for me was probably the hardest because of the banshees but I played a song to stay in the mood same name of the cheevo "I Need a Hero" :P music can help most times GOOD LUCK! :)

Beat the campaign tonight on legendary by myself after going through on heroic and I strongly recommend doing that first if you are not firmilar with the difficult Halo settings it helped me tremendously .
1.take your time
2.realize your going to die "A LOT"- attack enemies from cover!!
3. If you get a check point and your surrounded by enemies jump out and attempt to kill them all quick cause what's the worst that could happen?
4.try things you've never done before
5. Use every weapon to your advantage
6. MOST IMPORTANTLY : look for power weapons hidden around the maps . You'd be surprised how many times I found a great weapon that I could use right at that moment I desperately needed it.
AGAIN: take it at your own pace and enjoy the game I loved it !:)

loading the last checkpoint does still work. i just did rally point bravo on dawn then went back and checked and it said legendary! i will say i did a challenge doing legendary mission with mythic, tilt, thunderstorm, and tough luck skulls and that was a nightmare. elites took forever to die. then playing on regular legendary without skulls it was a cake walk. but the glitch still works

So I just used the "exploit" and got the achievement... But I did not get the MJOLNIR Mark-VI armor unlock for use on online multiplayer. And I also did not get the legendary visor unlock as well. Not sure if this is due to the "exploit" or due to some system glitch. Am kinda upset though. Anyone with same situation or remedy PM me at GT Generalg94

^ Same Here, and I didn't even use the "Exploit"
It says I haven't done the Composer one on Legend, but I did, and entirely on solo.

glitch on the third mission- when you see the first hunter picking up the rocket launcher triggers it off otherwise the first one stands still and lets you shoot it. I don't know of it works every time though

I finished and played a lot of Halo games
I finished Halo: Reach, Halo Combat Evolved(Anniversary) and Halo 3 on Legendary. I am working on Halo 4 at the moment and soon, probably, Halo 2 and Halo 3 ODST. Halo Wars.. I got that game but fuck it. In my opinion, till now, Anniversary was the easiest and Halo 4 the hardest(till now). And there is one level in Halo 3 which I defenitely found discusting and difficult: The level 'Cortana'. The High Charity Flood level(7th level of Halo 3 I believe). Unbelievable. You need much patience to finish that one :P

Confirmed, I just finished the last level using the exploit, and even with today's small update, it still gave me the achievement. I also got the Mark-VI armor unlocked, so not sure what the problem is for 185 and 186. The exploit made it a whole lot easier, and so much shorter, to obtain.

So can we confirm, today, after patch earlier this month, that Legendary exploit still works? Using no skulls, having completed the game solo on Normal, and starting from final checkpoints?

I'm working on this achievement right now but I don't want to use the glitch, I just got the achievement for one mission with three skulls on. My question is can I turn the skulls off and start from level two or will I have to start all over again and keep going through "continue campaign" in order to get the cheevo?
Thanks in advance

This is the first Halo that I've attempted to play on Legendary by myself. At first I found it difficult...due to the run-n-gun nature of the game. Then, I stopped rushing into the battle (as you can do on Normal or Heroic), hung back a bit, picked enemies off one-by-one, from a distance. It was a lot of fun playing a great game differently than I'd usually play a game like this.
One tip I've not read or seen much about...using the Needler on Elites. It works amazingly well! Most people like to go with an overcharged Plasma Pistol and then finishing them off with a head-shot. On Legendary, you're rarely going to get close enough to an Elite and there's only about a 50/50 chance that you're going to hit them with an overcharged burst. They either stick you with a grenade, melee you or do

I found the Needler far more efficient. That and the Covenant Carbine seem to be the way to go. When I got stuck at any point in the game, I watched different videos of other people's play-through to see how they did it. It was helpful to show me what I was doing wrong (or differently).

Totally agree with @219. Im not a skilled Halo player, but it wasn't as hard as people make it to be.
It just takes patience, something that most people here is lacking as it seems.
Take your time, rush only when possible, pick enemies from afar whenever you can and if you keep dying in one spot, try different aproaches.
With time you'll get the achievement. Just keep trying.

Does using the exploit unlock "The Legend of 117" too?
I have completed all other Halo campaigns solo Legendary except Halo 4, so although I feel very dirty I'm considering doing it the easy way since I have a kid incoming and don't have much time nowadays... Plus that I'll probably want to do it solo Legendary in Halo MCC anyway

I'm on my way to this achievement right now, so far I'm on the level Infinity and I got to say, it's pretty easy but not as easy as Reach was. You'd think the Prometheans would be tougher but nope, the Covenant are where it's at in and it makes the process much more infuriating.
I've played ODST, Halo 3 on Legendary with three friends and reach both myself and with buddies. And since this is a new account, I need to find a team to redo the campaigns on Legendary. Not Reach though, I challenged myself to do it in a day and I did it (yes I'm very proud).

Lame. This is an automatic extra bonus for ending the campaign at the hardest skill . 70 point, + 90 with that.
