Welcome, Spartans! Halo: Spartan Assault is a small, arcade styled twin-stick shooter that acts as a virtual training simulation for the Spartan IV’s aboard the UNSC Infinity. Throughout this game, you will undergo simulations as both Lieutenant Sarah Palmer and Captain Davis as they battle the Covenant forces throughout the galaxy in order to secure Forerunner technology and information. The game features thirty Single-Player missions across six different Operations, and an additional five missions that are exclusive to the Co-Op Mode. The achievements are all relatively straightforward. You will unlock a few for completing each Operation (Single Player and Co-Op), completing specific tasks in certain missions, getting a Gold Star in all missions, and killing heaps of Flood in the Co-Op Mode. Prepare for a short, yet somewhat grindy achievement list!

Cross-Platform Achievement Unlocks:
W8/WP8 -If you played these versions first your completion of levels and medals carry over from other platforms. There are some slight deviations in the achievements from phone/PC to the console versions.

Xbox One / 360 - If you played this version and choose to play the other platforms later, these achievements will pop with no problem.
Recruit, Prodigy, and 117 (for gold stars)
Pension Plan (25,000 XP)
Tour of Duty (all gold stars in Operation F)
Distinguished Service (all medals earned at least once)
Weapon of Choice (a kill with each weapon)

To get the remaining achievements you will simply need to
1. Play level 5 of each operation
2. Complete all level-specific achievements (Vidmaster challenges, etc)
3. Complete one weekly challenge

Co-Op -One mission should should pop the following Co-Op achievements for you.
Flooded (complete all Co-Op missions)
Extermination (10,000 Flood kills)
Overachiever (earn all Co-Op meals) if you earned a medal but did not complete the mission it will count for the console you played it on but will need to be re-earned on the other platform.

Single Player (First Playthrough):
Your first playthrough of the Single Player should solely focus on experiencing all thirty missions and obtaining each Operation’s mission specified achievement, which are: "Escort Service", "Nowhere to Hide", "Never Knew What Hit Them", "Brute Force", "Foot Solider", "Vidmaster Challenge", "Silvertip", and lastly, "Vidmaster Challenge 2.0". Across this playthrough, you will also naturally unlock six achievements for completing each Operation: "Overrun", "Switched On", "Switched Off", "Evacuated", "Terminated", and "Archeology". Furthermore, you will most likely unlock both "Recruit" and "Prodigy" without really trying. These achievements are obtained for earning a Star of any type in a mission, and earning your first Gold Star. At some point, most likely on the first mission, make sure you activate two of the easier six skulls on a mission in order to obtain the "Skull Combo" achievement. You can also use this playthrough to start working on the "Weapon of Choice" and "Powered by MJOLNIR" achievements, but they may not unlock until your second playthrough. Lastly, natural progress towards "Distinguished Service" and "Pension Plan" will be obtained as you earn the various medals across your playthrough and earn heaps of XP as well.

Single Player (Second Playthrough/Mission Select):
Now that you have a good chunk of the Single Player achievements out of the way, you can run through all the missions again via Operation/Mission select and begin grinding out your progress for the "117" achievement. Here, you’ll essentially need to earn a Gold Star in all thirty missions. You may also need to keep replaying a few levels in order to finish off your medals and XP grind for the "Distinguished Service" and "Pension Plan" achievements. The last main Single Player achievement, "Extra Credit" is where most of your time will be spent. For this achievement, you need to complete all ninety Challenges in the game. There are three for each mission, and they can prove to be quite the grind, so be prepared for these mindless task.

Co-Op Mode:
From the Main Menu, you can launch the Co-Op Mode and either use the matchmaking process to find another player, or invite a friend to join you on your endeavors. Either way, you will need to complete all five Co-Op missions for the "Flooded" achievement. Work towards earning all the Co-Op medals and Gold Starring all five missions, and in turn, you will also unlock "Overachiever" and "Dynamic Duo" achievements. Be mindful that the Gold Star requirements are quite intense so you may need to purchase “Score Boosters” in the pre-game lobby of each mission. Moreover, try to grab a good partner for [B]The Enemy of my Friend[/B[ achievement, because you will need to complete all five missions with a higher score than your partner. Lastly, killing ten thousand Flood during your Co-Op playthroughs will net you the "Extermination" achievement and finishing an entire mission without being attack by a Yellow Flood Spore will net you the "Immune" achievement.

At this point, the only achievements that should need any type of grinding are the Gold Stars and medals for both Single Player and Co-Op, Single Player challenges, and ten thousand Flood kills. Whatever you may have left, just hop back into whichever mode necessary and continue grinding these out. Remember, you may need to buy “Score Boosters” for some of the Gold Star requirements, as some are very hard to obtain normally. As for the ten thousand Flood kills, about three to four full playthroughs, or eight dedicated hours in the Co-Op Mode should see you with the achievement unlocked. If you complete a medal or challenge during your game, you can always quit out of the mission and that progress will still be saved.

Overall, Halo: Spartan Assault is a nice, small game that delivers a decent twin-stick shooter experience for fans who are interested in learning of Sarah Palmer’s adventures between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4. The game is still enjoyable for gamers who are not necessarily fans of the Halo series, but they may not find comfort knowing quite a few of the achievements require mindless grinding. For its price tag, I would surely recommend this game to anyone who needs a small game to hold them over for two weeks. If you already have a lot on your plate, give this game a miss and pick it up at a later date, as you won’t be missing out on much.

[XBA would like to thank BiggD and WORLDEATER for this roadmap]

Complete all co-op missions    (3)

There are only a total of five Co-Op missions in Halo: Spartan Assault. Unlike the Single Player missions where all you have to do is get from Point A to Point B while killing everything in your path, the Co-Op missions are designed for, as you may have guessed, nice cooperative and tactical combat and gameplay as you may need to hold and defend a Forerunner structure for five minutes, or strategically work together to shut down an entire Forerunner facility by destroying its fusion cores. This achievement shouldn’t pose as too much trouble, but be ready for missions three and five, as those are the harder of the bunch. The achievement will unlock once all five missions have been successfully completed.

Earn all co-op medals at least once    (8)

There are fourteen different Co-Op medals that must be earned for this achievement. Again, unlike the Single Player medals, these require a mix of coordination and communication to pull off. Below, you can find a list of all the required medals:

  • Killpower: Kill 20 enemies within 3 seconds of each other.
  • Killociraptor: Kill 30 enemies within 3 seconds of each other.
  • Killdiculous: Kill 40 enemies within 3 seconds of each other.
  • Killowhat?!: Kill 50 enemies within 3 seconds of each other.
  • Invincible: Kill 30 enemies in a row without being hit.
  • Inconceivable: Kill 40 enemies in a row without being hit.
  • Unfrigginbelievable: Kill 50 enemies in a row without being hit.
  • Repellent: Prevent infection until your partner gets infected.
  • Kill it with fire: Kill 50 enemies with fire without being hit.
  • Medic: Heal your partner with a Regeneration Field.
  • Brick Wall: Block 10 Explosion or Infection Forms with your Hardlight Shield before it depletes.
  • Long Distance: Teleport back to your partner over a distance of 75 meters.
  • Bug Off: Use the Overshield to prevent infection.
  • Perimeter: Use Repel as a safe zone for your partner.

With this in mind, the first seven medals should be quite easy on the second mission, since there are energy barriers that block the Flood from storming into the central area in which you spawn. You can easily camp behind these barriers and keep shooting the spawning Flood to easily get your Killowhat?! and Unfrigginbelievable medals. Likewise, the Kill it with Fire medal can also be obtained on the second mission, using the same strategy mentioned above. Repellent, Medic, Bug Off, and Perimeter should all come naturally as you play through all five missions. Lastly, Brick Wall is best done on the fourth of fifth mission. Simply activate a Hardlight Shield once you pick it up, and deflect ten Flood spores with the shield in a row. For Long Distance, attempt this on the third mission. Once you get to the end of the bridge, have your partner run back to the start, and once they are close, teleport to them to achieve a 75+ meter teleport distance.

Below, you can find two videos that show a visual representation on how to achieve the Kill it with Fire and Brick Wall medals.

Dynamic Duo30
Earn all Gold stars in all co-op missions    (14)

First off, it is highly recommended that both players purchase “Score Boosters” in the pre-game lobby of each mission. The Gold Star requirements for the five Co-Op missions are very high, and without any boosters, it will be too difficult to achievement the Gold Star rating.

Although both players are awarded points separately based off their actions - their scores will be represented by a Blue or Red Spartan helmet on the bottom of the screen – these points are then added together at the end of the mission for an overall score. Try to finish each level in a short amount of time for the added Time Bonus, and also, make sure to communicate effectively and use your grenades wisely in order to chain your kills together and score a lot of medals for an even bigger added bonus at the end. Some of the missions may need replaying, as the Gold Star requirements are very tough to get on your first run of the mission. Pay particular attention to the third and fifth mission, as these are the hardest Co-Op mission to achieve Gold Stars on.

Kill 10,000 enemies in co-op    (3)

This achievement will probably take anywhere from eight to ten dedicated hours to complete. There are so many enemies in the Co-Op missions, that on average, in a two hour playthrough, you should net around 1800-2000 kills.

The best missions to work on for this achievement are Missions 2 and 5. Mission 2 is very short, and since enemies are being spawned on both sides of the central area, you can split up the kills with your partner. On the other hand, Mission 5 has the most enemies which nearly never stop respawning unless you blow up all five fusion cores.

Whichever way you go about grinding this out, you can always check your progress in the Achievements tab in the Home Menu of your Xbox One.

The Company of Strangers10
Complete a co-op mission with at least 5 different players    (4)

This achievement is very straightforward and self-explanatory. When you boot up the Co-Op Mode from the Main Menu of the game, simple press to start searching for a teammate. Take note of the gamertag when the player joins, so you do not accidently end up completing another mission with him when you go to search the next few times.

You will need to complete any mission all the way through in order for it to count towards the achievement. The second mission is, without a doubt, the quickest and easiest of the five to complete, so set the preferred mission to this before searching for a partner.

This achievement is story related and cannot be missed.

It will unlock once all five missions under this Operation have been completed.

Complete Operation D

It will unlock once all five missions under this Operation have been completed.

Escort Service5
Keep all Wolverines intact in Operation A, Mission 3   (1)

In this mission, you will spawn alongside two Wolverine mobile tanks and be required to escort them to the furthest side of the cliff towards the North East of the map. This achievement is very easy, as the Covenant forces do no do that much damage to the Wolverines with their standard Plasma Repeaters and Plasma Pistols.

The only enemies in this mission are Grunts and Elites. From the start, simply run forward, and start taking out all the Covenant forces that stand in your way. Be sure to either occupy the Shade Turrets and blow them up, so that the enemy cannot use them.

If the Wolverines take any type of damage during the course of this mission, that’s okay, it won’t effect the achievement. The only way to void this achievement is if either one of the, of both, completely blow up. Just be sure to backtrack behind the tanks when necessary, because once you reach the middle section of the cliff, some enemies will begin spawning behind you. Also, do not step right in front of the tanks as they might run you over!

Nowhere to Hide10
Finish the mission without any Jackal regenerating its shield in Operation B, Mission 3   (1)

This achievement can be tackled in one of two ways. You can either avoid Jackals completely, or use a strong close-quarters weapon, like the Shotgun or Assault Rifle, to kill them quickly before they have a chance to regenerate their shields. I would also suggest the first method, but if you want to kill them just to be sure, take note that once you break their shields, they will usually cower and run away. You will have about ten to fifteen seconds to kill them before their shields can regenerate so be quick about disposing of them!

Alternatively, if you want to sacrifice your fellow marines for the greater good, follow the video guide below. Sometimes, they will destroy a Jackal’s shield but then not finish the enemy off. The Jackal will then regenerate their shield and this will void the achievement. I personally recommend purchasing and using a Sniper Rifle on this mission if you choose to directly kill the Jackals yourself.

Never Knew What Hit Them10
Kill a convoy target with every stationary gun in Operation C, Mission 3   (2)

This map is designed as a very linear and tight canyon passageway. A convoy of about 4-7 Wraiths, along with ground troops, will be passing through the canyon and for this achievement, you will need to destroy at least four of the Wraiths with four different machine gun emplacements.

The machine guns are basically scattered across the canyon, but finding them shouldn’t be an issue. The first machine gun is located right in front of you. Hop on it, destroy the first Wraith that passes by, and then proceed up the canyon. The next machine gun will be found after a short walk, on your left. Repeat the same course of action, and the next two machine guns can be found a few steps up to the right, and from that, a few steps up to the left.

This achievement is relatively straightforward, but if you need help in finding each machine gun turret, refer to the video below.

Brute Force10
Finish the objectives using only the Brute Shot, melee and grenades in Operation D, Mission 1   (1)

This mission is very short, and should only take about four to five minutes to complete. With that in mind, do not forget that you can only use three weapons: a Brute Shot, grenades, and your melee attack. First off, the only tie you’re really going to be using the melee attack is to kill the Jetpack Brutes that are spawning in the first little area of the map that you start out in. They will always drop a Brute Shot, so be sure to pick it up. After you have killed a few Brutes, collected all their ammo, and picked up the Frags in the bottom left part of this section, proceed to blow up the door with these Frags and Brute Shot. Once you pass through, you’ll need to destroy another steel door in a similar manner. Be sure to use only the Brute Shot and Grenades though! There are several enemies in this next section of the level, but there are enough Brutes and grenade caches to resupply from.

Once the second door has been destroyed, proceed inside to equip a Jetpack, and the mission will be complete!

Foot Soldier10
Finish the objective without using any vehicles/turrets in Operation E, Mission 4   (1)

The objective of this mission is to find and kill the Elite Generals scattered around the map. This map is very large, and there are plenty of vehicles around to use and/or hijack, but for this achievement, you will NOT want to get into any vehicle.

I personally recommend purchasing a Sniper Rifle and the Rocket Launcher for this mission. The former weapon will help take out ground troops – Elite Generals includes – very easily, while the latter weapon will dispose of the Covenant Wraiths, Ghosts, and Shade Turrets that populate the map.

Also, once the Drones spawn, they do so in countless waves that never seem to end. You may ned to swap one of your weapons out for an automatic rifle to get rid of them quickly. Overall, keep trotting down the canyon, killing all six Elite Generals and do not step into any vehicle! Once the last General has been taken out, the mission will end and the achievement will be unlocked.

Earn a star of any type in an operation mission

Please refer to "117" for more information regarding Stars.

Earn your first Gold star in an operation mission

Please refer to "117" for more information regarding Stars.

Earn all Gold stars in all operation missions   (4)

As you play the game you will notice a score counter on the bottom of your screen. Killing enemies and achieving medals increase your score. Each mission has 3 tiers bronze, silver, and gold. The best way to go about getting the highest score in each level is to take it slow and kill everything on the map. Don't take it too slow though, you definitely want to chain your kills quickly together to obtain the best medals like Killionaire and Killing Frenzy. Getting melee kills on lonely enemies scattered around earn you more points than if you just shoot them as you run by them. If you are still having an issue there is a Booster called "Score Booster" in which increases points for kills and medals. For a quick way to grind XP to buy Score Boosters check the Pension Plan achievement.

Distinguished Service15
Earn all medals in the game at least once   (1)

In total, there are 32 medals to be obtained in the Single Player portion of the game. Most of them are relatively straightforward and will be obtained without much effort. They generally consist of getting a certain amount of kills with a specific weapon, all while not taking any damage. The most obscure and difficult of the bunch, are getting grenades kills without being hit. This can easily be done on the first mission of Operation A.

Overall, you can always refer back to the Main Menu and track your progress for this achievement by opening up the Medals tab. They will be highlighted in light blue if they have already been obtained, and greyed out if you have not achieved them yet.

Weapon of Choice5
Score a kill with every handheld weapon in the campaign   (2)

This achievement is exclusive to the Single Player Campaign and will unlock once you have killed at least one enemy with each of the following weapons:

  • Assault Rifle
  • Magnum
  • Sniper Rifle (Costs 1,000 XP per mission)
  • Spartan Laser (Costs 1,200 XP per mission)
  • Rocket Launcher (Cost 2,000 XP per mission)
  • Plasma Pistol (Grunts)
  • Plasma Repeater (Elites)
  • Shotgun
  • Dual SMGs
  • Needler (Jackals)
  • Focus Rifle (Major Elites)
  • Brute Shot (Brutes)

Remember, the Sniper Rifle, Spartan Laser, and Rocket Launcher must be purchased in the pre-game lobby of a mission. All the other weapons will either be a default starting weapon or be found throughout the map for a particular mission.

Powered by MJOLNIR10
Use every ability in the campaign at least once   (2)

This achievement is exclusive to the Single Player Campaign and will unlock once you have used each of the following armor abilities at least once:

  • Regen Shield
  • Auto Sentry (Costs 500 XP per mission)
  • Overshield (Cost 300 XP per mission)
  • Seeker Drone (Cost 800 XP per mission)
  • Hologram
  • Sprint
  • Stun Blast
  • Active Camouflage
  • Hardlight Shield

Remember, the Auto Sentery, Overshield, and Seeker Drone must be purchased in the pre-game lobby of a mission. All the other armor abilities will either be a default starting AA or be found throughout the map for a particular mission.

Skull Combo10
Complete any mission with the maximum number of Skulls active

This achievement will come naturally while you are working on either of the two Vidmaster achievements in the Single Player. However, for a much easier route, I suggest using the method that is mentioned in the "Pension Plan" achievement.

You will want to essentially complete Operation A, Mission 1 with both the Black Eye and Hollow Skulls active. This mission takes no longer than a minute and a half, and these two skulls do not harm you negatively, since this first mission is very, very easy to complete. The achievement will unlock at the post-game stats menu once the mission is completed.

Vidmaster Challenge15
Complete Operation 5, Mission 1 with the Hollow and Black Eye Skulls active   (1)

The Hollow and Black Eye skulls must be active. The only way you will regenerate your shield is by melee hitting an enemy. You come equipped with the cloak armor ability and you definitely should use it when ever it is ready for use. Initially you want to sneak to the Phantom attacking as little as possible. Once at the Phantom you will need to kill the group of Elites and Brute Chieftain that spawn behind the energy walls. Use your grenades when needed and stealth often. Be careful to melee the Elites only do so when you are cloaked.

If you want to make it easier on yourself you can use "Over Shield" for 20 credits or 400 Xp to replace your cloak armor ability. Additionally, you can purchase a Sniper Rifle for 1000XP. This will help take down Elites much quicker towards the end.

Extra Credit15
Complete all campaign mission specific Assault Ops   (2)

Each of the thirty missions in the Single Player Campaign has three specific Assault Ops, or challenges, that must be completed for this achievement. That would mean there are a grand total of ninety challenges to be done, so as I’m sure you guessed, this is where most of your time on the game will be spent.

These challenges are very grindy, and most of them aren’t even difficulty. They are simply tedious and annoying. They range from, “Kill x amount of Drones with a Plasma Pistol” to “Destroy x amount of Wraiths with a Grizzly Tank.” Overall, you’ll need to grind all of them out and take note, that if you complete an Assault Op mid-mission, you can quit out of the mission and your progress will still be saved.

You can view your progress for each Assault Op in the Main Menu, and for a simple checklist of all ninety, consult THIS LINK.

Pension Plan10
Earn 25,000 XP throughout your career   (1)

This achievement is cumulative between both the Single Player and Co-Op Modes. Chances are, even after you have finished every Co-Op achievement and a majority of the Single Player achievements, you will still not have this achievement. Despite this annoyance, do not be afraid to actually spend your Spartan Points on weapons, boosters, or armor abilities in the pre-game lobby of each mission, as subtracting points from your total does not harm the achievement progress.

There is a simple way to grind this achievement out that involves very little skill and does not take anymore than thirty minutes – although you will not even have to grind that long if you are using this method post game after you’ve already obtained some thousand-odd points.

Basically, load up Operation A, Mission 1. You will want to turn on both the Black Eye and Hollow skulls, because these will give you a 4.5x Multiplier to your overall score at the end of the mission. Once the missions starts, simply proceed to eliminate all the enemies that spawn. There are just about twenty-nine Covenant forces to kill, and once you know where they all spawn, this mission should literally take one minute and fifteen seconds to complete. By the end of the match, you should be gaining around 900XP.

If you are using this method right off the bat, then simply do this anywhere from twenty-five to thirty times and the achievement will unlock. As stated above, that would only take you thirty minutes tops. If you are using this method after finishing all the Single Player and Co-Op missions, you’ll unlock the achievement sooner.

Complete Operation F

This achievement is story related and cannot be missed.

It will unlock once all five missions under this Operation have been completed.

Destroy all Mega Turrets with the Grizzly tank in Operation F, Mission 2   (1)

In this mission, there will be four large Mega Turrets that must be destroyed. For the achievement, you will want to destroy them all while using the Grizzly Tank that you spawn inside of in the beginning of the mission.

This achievement isn’t hard by any means, simply watch out for Suicide Grunts and the Wraith’s plasma mortar shots, because these can dish out major damage to your Tank. If, for whatever reason your Tank does take too much damage and you need to hop out, you can take a fellow Spartan’s Grizzly Tank and continue working on the achievement.

Vidmaster Challenge 2.015
Complete Operation F, Mission 4 with the Blind and Thunderstorm Skulls active   (1)

In the pre-game lobby, make sure to turn on both the Blind and Thunderstorm skulls. With these two skulls activated, Blind will remove your HUD entirely and Thunderstorm will increase the damage that enemies can take before they die. The former skull shouldn’t be much of a problem, as you shouldn’t need to rely on your ammo gauge or shields bar that often anyways. As for the Thunderstorm skull, you’ll most likely be running past all the enemies in the mission so again, it won’t be much of an issue. If you have the Spartan Points, I would recommend buying either the Sniper Rifle or Rocket Launcher to rid of enemies quicker and to destroy the fusion cores much quicker as well.

The three fusion cores are located in the bottom left of the map, bottom right, and top right. You start out the mission with two fellow Spartans and the Active Camo ability, so use the AA and your AI to your advantage in picking off enemies or slipping by enemies when necessary.

Once you have destroyed all the fusion cores, proceed to the top section of the map where you will need to clear out a few Elites and Jackals before crossing a light bridge. Once you enter the tunnel at the end of the bridge, the mission will end and your achievement will unlock.
