Welcome to Ikaruga, one of the best and most beautiful shoot 'em ups in video game history. Don't be fooled though, this game is hard to max out and will require a lot of skill and or patience to do so.

Step 1: Clear the game
Just play through the game on any setting you prefer to unlock the five achievements for beating the bosses - assuming that you destroy them before time runs out. Actually this is easier said than done and chances are that, at the beginning, you will not even make it to the third level.
Familiarize yourself with the polarity-system and just keep on trying as for every hour that you invest in this game, you will increase your credits by one. After nine hours you will eventually unlock Free Play (unlimited continues), if you are desperate.

Step 2: The A-Rankings
So here is where the real challenge begins. You have to achieve a rank of A or better on every level. The rank is solely determined by points and is furthermore reset to C if you use a continue. To get a high score you "just" have to keep up your chain at max level and get a good time on the bosses (if they have several phases the points add up). A bunch of videos how to achieve this can be found on youtube (linked in the achievement guide). There is also a very in-depth FAQ HERE that might help to develop the right strategy. Apart from that, all I can give you is a short description and the advice to practice, practice, practice.

Note:
- Polarity changes instantly, even if the animation takes longer.
- If you ever wondered: Your hitbox is a thin line along the middle of your ship.
- Even though you fire a dual shot when using rapid fire, the first shot is always a single projectile. Use this if accurate shooting is required.
- You don't have to be 100% perfect. The highest rank is S++ while you "only" have to score an A.

Chapter 1:
Required Score: 2,000,000
Difficulty: Easy
Not much to say here except learn the layout of the level. Dropping your chain more than once will most likely result in failure.

Chapter 2:
Required Score: 3,000,000
Difficulty: Normal
The good news is that you don't have to chain the beginning of the level with all the small ships to receive an A-Rank. The bad news is that on the other hand you can't lose your chain after that section. When the way splits up towards the end of the level you can ignore the right path and still score high enough.

Chapter 3:
Required Score: 3,500,000
Difficulty: Hard
Probably the hardest level to chain correctly as it is extremely fast paced. If you play on easy the first half of the level becomes a lot less painful. However you pretty much have to keep your chain going until you reach Shigi (the sub-boss) to score a sufficient number of points.

Chapter 4:
Required Score: 4,000,000
Difficulty: Hard
Well here it is: The most beautiful level of the game. Chaining becomes a little bit easier here, but only if you can survive long enough to build up chains. Again if you play on easy, you have a lot less things to worry about. Most of all try to keep your chain until you reach the end of the level. You don't have to chain the rotating laser parts completely - if things become too tough just fly to the edge of the screen and focus on surviving.

Final Chapter:
Required Score: 4,000,000
Difficulty: Easy
The last level is easy again. Just try to chain it completely and get fast times on the boss and you should be fine.

Step 3: Dot Eater and 1CC
Once you've gotten the A-Rankings the worst part is over. For obtaining Dot Eater you have to complete a level without firing a single shot and without using a continue (the boss obviously has to time out). This is done easily in the first level.

For the 1CC achievement, you have to clear the whole game without using a continue. Things become a little bit easier if you set your lives to 5 and extra lives for every 2,000,000 points. Now try to get good scores on the first two Chapters and after that focus on staying alive as some parts might be easier if you just try to dot eat your way out. However if you have managed to get the A-Rankings this shouldn't be much of a problem anymore.

Conclusion:
There you have it. With a lot of practice and a fair amount of patience, you should have 200 on Ikaruga. Congratulations!

Unstoppable25
Clear the game in any mode without using Continue (1)

All i can say is Good Luck! This takes a really big amount of skill at the game and could take over a year to master the game completely. If you just dodge bullets the whole time and change to their color, this may be obtainable.

Dot Eater10
Clear a certain chapter in any mode without shooting at all

Easiest done on the first stage on easy difficulty, just dodge bullets and make sure to change to the color of the bullets shooting at you.
