As you can tell from the game's title Mars Rover Landing is part of the Kinect Fun Labs series of tech demos and games. In the particular game your job is to guide a lunar craft, named Curiosity, safely to the surface of Mars. Oh and the best part is that it's free.

The game plays out over three stages. The first is Entry where you have to guide the craft through the planet's atmosphere. This part requires you move your body around so that Curiosity remains in a safe zone.

The second stage, called Descent, is a QTE stage that makes you move your arms to certain parts of the screen at a particular time.

The third and final stage is Landing where you will use your arms to adjust thruster power in a bid to land the craft in the designated area while doing so as safe as possible.

Although you can miss achievements on a playthrough, each run will only take 10 minutes maximum. Three achievements will unlock on your first run regardless on performance providing you pass the levels. Another will unlock after you have played through five times.

The remaining four missables will require a small amount of patience since it might take you a couple of playthroughs to get used to the controls but with enough practice you can get them.

There isn't more to say unfortuantly. The achievments are straight forward and there is no particular way you can playthrough to make it easier on yourself. Just try for them.

Flight Director10
Earned a 5-star rating for a perfect mission    (6)

This game plays out over the course of three segments. At the end of all the stages you are given an overall score. If you managed to score 95 or over then you will achieve a 5-Star Rating. This means you don't have to be perfect but can't mess up that much. The achievement will pop shortly after landing.

Landing on fumes10
Landed Curiosity without crashing and with zero fuel remaining    (2)

During the landing stage of the game raise both your arms up to try and halt the descent to a crawl. The aim to is lower the craft slowly but not so much that you run out of fuel too soon. Once you are very close to the ground you need to stop entirely by raising your arms all the way up. Once you run out of fuel the craft will fall and providing you weren't too far from the ground will unlock the achievement after landing. If you happen to be too far and destroy the craft you can restart the segment despite what the description says. Accuracy and integrity don't matter for this achievement as long as a successful landing is made.

Gale Crater5
Safely landed Curiosity in the center of the target zone    (7)

To unlock this achievement you need to perfect the landing stage of the game. It may take a few attempts to get it right as it requires precise balancing of the thrusters and the craft cannot be damaged during this stage either. Use slow steady movements while keeping you fuel load in mind. This is probably the most tricky achievement in the game.

Successfully landed Curiosity at full structural integrity    (16)

During the first and third stages of the game your craft can take damage which lower integrity. The first stage (Entry) requires you to keep the craft within the presented circle. Occasionally you will hit turbulence which will not damage the craft but force it out of the safe zone. It can spend minimal time here before taking damage. This can be frustrating as it takes only a second to lower you to 99% integrity and cost you the achievement. The during the third stage (Landing) you merely need to make a safe landing opposed to a perfect one (see Landing on Fumes as its a similar process without having to run out of fuel).

Training Complete5
Successfully landed Curiosity 5 times

The game is not hard to complete and is very short and each play through will go quicker once you know what you are doing. Just finish the mission five times and the achievement will pop.

Powered Descent5
Successfully landed Curiosity on the surface of Mars

This achievement is for completing the third stage of the game (Landing). As long as your craft survives you will get the achievement.

Successfully performed the Descent

This achievement is for completing the second stage of the game (Descent). Once you finish this stage it will pop.

Guided Entry5
Navigated Curiosity through the atmosphere of Mars

This achievement is for completing the first stage of the game (Entry). Providing you don't get the craft destroyed it will unlock upon level completion.
