|Finish the game on Insanity without changing difficulty after leaving Earth.|
To make sure you get the achievement, before starting a new game go to Extras from the Main Menu. Go into "Options" and to "Gameplay." Choose Insanity for the Combat Difficulty.
If you started the game already you can still change the difficulty as long as you have not beaten the first mission on Earth. Press and go to "Options". Go into "Gameplay" and you can change the difficulty to Insanity. This must be one before leaving so do it right away. If you find yourself on Mars, you have gone too far and will have to restart.
This mode requires a lot of patience and is best done with power heavy classes (so that you do not run out of ammo) or do the From Ashes DLC first to get the Particle Rifle weapon for unlimited ammo. If you did not import a save and have to play twice anyways, save this for a 2nd playthrough. If you have an import, go ahead and start on this difficulty right away. It's not extremely hard and as long as you save often with full health and keep a backup file, you'll be in good shape.

@12 I wonder if the AI teammates will require line of sight to use their powers. ME2 was easy since I would tell them to wait in a safe spot and they could use their powers as long as I could see the enemies. If they haven't fixed that in ME3 it won't be too bad. It was nice not having to worry about their health when doing that.

Monday, February 06, 2012 @ 05:23:56 PM
@16 They have done the same with Eden Prime in the first game and the Normandy in the second. My understanding is that the reason for this is that since importing a save from the same game starts the player off on the difficulty of the previous play-through, so if you want to use all of your weapons from the previous game you have the opportunity to change the difficulty before you finish the prologue mission.

@13 Hell yes. When I originally started ME2, I had no interest whatsoever to play Infiltrator, so I started as an Adept because, on paper, it looked the coolest to me. Then I went Infiltrator for my 2nd play through and never looked back. Insanity was still tough during certain points, but Tac Cloak/M98 Widow + Incinerate + Reave with Miranda and Garrus DESTROYED everything - shields, armor, health...everything. Looking forward to doing this again.

anyone else try insanity on the the demo? It's freaking crazy they weren't lying when they said the increased the difficulty in this game.
AI seems to throw a lot of grenades which forces you out of cover right into the line of fire. And don't get me started on those turrets they place down. The rip right through you shields.
It was a pain in the ass but it's going to be a good time playing the full game on insanity. Can't wait hopefully you can play insanity right off the bat.

I am not looking forward to defending the missile launchers near the end. That's gonna be tough with all them banshees. That and the annoying cover system. They should've included some sort of "cover mode" that you could turn off and on so you don't end up taking cover when you actually want to run away. And that final missile console is annoying. Why would I want to take cover there, right at the end? I came very close to dying several times because I kept going into cover instead of activating the missile launcher.

did it in the first playthrough, was very enjoyable, i must say if you know your class and what to rely on and you have the skill it will be fun. I had a few brick walls but was able to complete it all inc side missions in around 30 hours. Next playthough (paragon) ill aim for 25hours.

I didn't realized until halfway through Grissom Academy that I was playing on Insanity (just thought it was harder than the previous 2 games). When I did realize, I saved, lowered the difficulty to see how much easier it would be, put it back to Insanity, reloaded, and finished the game.
I did not get the Insanity achievement. I don't know where it stores that info, but I didn't save after lowering the difficulty, yet it still knew.
I don't play shooters because I'm not that good at shooting, so the final husks and marauder were extremely frustrating until I accidentally discovered that with Kinect you can use powers during that segment.

Ok...yeah...compared to Insanity on ME2 this was a walk in the park. I thought the final part where you have to defend the missiles was going to be hard as hell...yeah not so much. After playing through the game twice and getting to know it inside and out when you get to that portion and realize just how abundant cover is, it isn't that big a deal...That ridiculous Marauder before the beam though...Screw that guy man...I swear to god he moves faster than those Husks did. if your playing as a soldier I recommend, having carnage and con. shot, equip the prothean weapon and either sniper or shotgun with high damage, the 2 weapons will greatly help with the regen of your powers, making them available every 5-6 seconds. garrus and javik are the ideal team. Garrus for overload to deal with shields and javik his bombs work wonders. I don't use adrenaline at all as i feel its under powered from ME 2 i have my frag grenades hot keyed to Y. Make sure everyones powers are mostly doing heavy damage and also specd to do extra damage to barriers and armor, it helps against mechs, turrets and the banshees. finally armor with high weapon damage and some shield regen helps out greatly. don't rush things stay back and patiently focus all fire on the weak enemies to clear ou

This and unwavering were the last 2 achievements I needed but I maxed this game out with two playthroughs and a lil bit of online. In my opinion insanity was fairly easy with only a few trouble spots-Kai Lang on the Cerberus station- the ambush section while waiting on your missles to launch towards the end and really that was it. Used a soldier made use of fully upgraded adrenilane rush and High powered sniper rifles mostly the widow and the mantis.

Hey 81, there's several Geth Blackstorm pickups in that room. Keep sabotaging or using Tali's drone and grab those guns. Makes it a breeze.
The 2nd Kai Leng encounter was a bit of pain, but not too bad. Just finished the defending the missile battery earlier. Soldier class and all I took for the return to Earth was my Saber X. Started to wonder if that was a bad idea, but it worked out fine.
Then after the first set of banshees, the brutes and harevester all fell down went boom, I just ran. I ran so far away (you're supposed to be singing that by the way). Then they said I was clear to launch and I was home free.

I dreaded the defend missile mission the entire game because when I did it on normal I was being reckless and it was hard as crap but when I got there on insanity I just took my time and ran back and forth across each side of the map and took cover and I beat it first time, I mainly used the M-76 revenant X because of bigger ammo clip with I believe the Carnifex pistol and sub machine gun those were only weapons I brought to help boost my adrenaline rush (Was Playing a Level 60 Soldier) and also used defense matrix to help with reduced tank. I always had Liara for warp and Garrus at all times. Hope this helps

I've done it twice now on insanity and got no achievement and yes done ALL missions. Every single one.
Playing as FemShep Sentinel with fully evolved Warp. Using the M77 Paladin and Vindicator ammo+muzzle modified. Keeps the power at 200%.
The geth primes are easy. Take Tali and EDI. Use Tali with a fully levelled Sabotage, Hit either of the Left or Right primes straight off the elevator but dodge to cover. Let the one stood on the end (platform where you aim laser from later) come closer then hit it with a Sabotage. Gives you enough time to run past it then go back as far as you can and basically keep hitting them with Sabotage & Warp plus EDI's powers. The Sabotage will act as a short-term stasis allowing you to dodge.

Garrus and Liara. Again warping, overloading to keep things at bay. Move slowly. Concentrate on the 6 brutes first, they kill easier than usual I think. Then take the banshees on & the god knows how many marauders. Blackstar makes it easier, but it's do-able without. I know coz I did it this morning, picked blackstar up by mistake dropped it and then it wasn't there later.
The marauder nr beam is easy. Stay back. Kill the three husks, takes 2 headshots each, sometimes 1 if lucky. Then wait and do same to the marauder. It doesn't move towards u.
Hope this helps

I played through ME1 6 times, 3 on Insanity. I played through ME2 5 times, twice on Insanity. I played through ME1 insanity 3 times because there was a specific time that you had to adjust the difficulty and if you missed that window (I think it was on the ship, and save before Eden Prime)that I just f**** up and had only myself to blame. In ME3, I'm just starting my Insanity Runthrough and realized that I didn't change the setting until stepping off the ship on the first planet. I didn't save at all until after I changed the difficulty, but wondering if I need to start over again? I don't want to :-( The cerberus fight just before you open Javik's cryo-tube was really hard for me and I may start crying if I have to do it again. Took me roughly 20 hours for a full Unwavering run. Not very difficult as a lvl 60 soldier, so don't despair if you didn't pick the "perfect class". Just max your level and your weapons and you should be golden.

I reckon insanity on new game+ is easier than the first run through on normal. I was not looking forward to the missile battery either but I took Kaiden and James as bullet sponges and my m.o was cloak, snipe, leg it, cover, repeat into each corner of the map. I spent a good 15 seconds in the room closest to the missile battery panel with no enemy even bothering to come take a pop at me, by the time they did it was time to activate it so I cloaked ran through them and pressed launch, job done.
As for the beam, the husks were a pain zig zagging towards you but stomach and head shots stall them and the marauder just shoot in the face a few times and he drops.

Well daaaaamn. I got so lucky on my Insanity playthrough during the last battle on Earth. I brought Kaidan and Tali along, and I had my Energy Drain skill maxed out. When the 2 Banshees came at me, I just Reave'd/Energy Drain'd the shit out of one of them. The other one just ignored me, and nothing else seemed to be shooting at me. The reaper was also not firing its laser at me for some odd reason. When EDI announced that the missile was ready to fire, I just hauled ass as quick as possible, and still then, nothing was firing at me. I didn't even lose my shields in this playthrough. Honestly, it was easier than my normal file. Also, my Marauder Shields didn't die. I was hiding in a corner and taking for-fucken'-ever to shoot him. He just...kind of backed up and disappeared.

After watching a video I realized you actually have to choose one of the viable options when completing the game.
I was doing my renegade run, so I was always choosing the bottom right answers (or bottom left when given the opportunity). If you keep doing that during the final sequence, you end up doing nothing and letting the harvesting cycle continue and the game ends in that fashion.
You get the ending credits and the final cutscene, but no achievement. I gave it one last hopeful shot and tried the renengade option by blowing up the catalyst and the achievement popped along with Long Service Medal

If people are having trouble getting through the game, I suggest buying the Firefight pack. 160 MSP is pretty cheap, and getting the Harrier then upgrading it in game makes it insanely powerful

Level 60 Soldier - Liara and EDI (or Garrus). The missile battery was hard for me on Normal, took less tries on Insanity. All the choke points in the first playthrough were just as hard the second time, though I got through them more quickly as I knew what was coming.

I'm working on this right now and haven't had any trouble until the second Priority Citadel mission. I was carrying the Prothean rifle (unlimited ammo) and found it useless against the Phantoms near the end of the stage. Once I started using the Avenger Assault rifle it was a piece of cake.

Just got this with a level 58 soldier. It wasn't too bad except for a few tricky parks:
Grissom Academy - before the large open area with lots of enemies coming at you and an Atlas, just stay in the closed off hallway and pick each target off
Kai Leng - Take EDI and Kaiden and keep overloading his shield and pick off the additional enemies before they throw grenades.

I finally got this one and Unwavering today. I thought it was slightly more difficult than in ME 2, but its very doable. I went through on a second playthrough with my lvl 60 soldier with the leash biotic (through Omega DLC) and found it very handy for taking the shields away from guardians and against shields and barriers used with Liaras stasis. I had the mattock fully upgraded, with the hornet and carnifex with ultralight materials for power cooldown, came in handy. The parts that annoyed me the most were:
Grissom Academy - the room with the atlas and annoying engineers and guardians
Kai Leng on Cronos Station - be usre to kick him in the nuts in the beginning. I didn't know this at first and got quite frustrated.
Defending the missile battery - very frustrating, though it

just got past cronos station. i found kai leng reasonably simple by bringing james with me along with edi since james is a bullet sponge and the enemies seem pretty hell bent on taking him out so they leave me alone to pick em off, one tip though is to take out all of kai's troops who jump down (1 set of troops, 2 a set of troops with a sniper and lastly 2 phantoms) before refocusing your fire on kai and combine your powers on him (i used overload from edi, carnage from james and flare from the omega dlc from shep)it'll buy you time if you need to run off and recharge your shields aswell as doing a ton of damage

lvl 60 Soldier and Garrus and EDI all the way had inferno ammo and con-shot as possibly the best combo on just about everything
Kai Leng was awkward but just use overload from the other two and then incinerate his jumpy ass when KL is re-charging ignore him and take out the drop down enemies as quick as possible leaving him on his own
when protecting the missiles 2nd time RUN RUN RUN just avoid the enemies as much as possible as it is timed and then run to the missile and blow his ass up

adept ftw here. biotic explosions do the same amount of relative damage across all difficulties, meaning theyre pretty weak on casual and fkin overpowered on Insanity :D
choose either singularity or pull, dont level both. set up biotic booms with either warp or sing. and then trigger them by spamming throw. you can kill groups of enemies with no shields in a few seconds + you have warp for barriers and armor. only thing it lacks is the ability to drop shields so I went for a fully levelled Energy Drain which is pretty effective. always take Garrus along because he also helps with the shields whilst providing firepower the adept class can lack...

...the other squad member is open for different situations; James can take and deal serious damage, but stacking your biotics with Liaras can be crazy aswell (having her instant singularity open every 1sec and your throw open every 1sec = biotic explosion party) & take Tali with Garrus for the Geth missions.
take a light smg for shield damage aswell, and if you have good weight bonuses, maybe take the mattock or a sniper too.
was very tempted to go with my imported lv60 Infiltrator from my hardcore playthrough but now im glad I didnt.

another method for anyone struggling;
infiltrator - save for a black widow and take an ultralightweight hornet/locust too, both lvl x if possible & take energy drain as your bonus.
heres the key part, take garrus and james everywhere; give them both the particle rifle (again level x) and max their ammo powers (MAKE SURE TO TAKE THE "EXPLOSIVE BURST" LVL6 EVO ON JAMES' INCENDIARY AMMO - it is crazy overpowered with the PR for obvious reasons).

...continued ...using your sniper slowdown and the black widows power with headshots and invis. + incinerate for armor and ED for shields/barriers - you have both strong defense and offense... jimmy and garrus have high damage outputs and plenty of shields each too - its a cakewalk aside from 2 or 3 areas of notable difficulty + that final fecking marauder. hope it helps :]

Engineer + Dominate BP (from Leviathan) = Super snooze-fest! When Cerberus engineers show up, wait for them to place a turret, hack it, then watch it mow down the enemy for you, then Overload -> Incinerate the turret as needed, and move on. Same with atlases and geth (whatever the biggest one on the field is (prime/pyro/hunter)). Reapers, just dominate a brute or ravager, and watch the carnage! And always throw out a sentry turret (mine was upgraded to flamethrower) and combat drone.
The only thing I had any sort of problem with was the non-essential Citadel DLC mirror arena match, only because my krogan squadmates didn't want to do their normal thing in the match (I think they were confused by all the Shepards running around hehe), and only attacked when I specifically told them to

Engineer + Particle Rifle. Used Liara (Warp/Stasis) and Javik (Slam) most of the time. With Slam and Warp fully upgraded, Slam would rise them up, pause to have Liara Warp them, and the enemy would go flying!
Hardest parts for me were Grissom Academy multi level section after talking to Jack, and the Kai Lang end fight. The rest, only the Brutes and Banshees caused problems, but mostly with patience and a methodical approach to lowering shields and barriers they all get taken care of.

Does changing the Difficulty in an other career void insanity trophy / achievement in your original career?
I am early on in an insanity run.
I want Reave early.
I see that if you unlock a bonus in another career it will unlock it in any and all careers.
So I begin a separate career to rush through on casual to unlock reave.
The "rush" career starts on insanity because that is how it is set in options from my original career. If I swap to casual and swap it back to insanity while within the rush career, will it void my insanity trophy after I return to my original career?
My reasoning for asking is because challenges like Recruit, Soldier, and Veteran continue counting cross-careers. It seems logical the same would apply with this difficulty swap. Will it void insanity?
