Mass Effect

Mass Effect Achievements

Soldier Ally

20
Complete the majority of the game with the Alliance soldier squad member

See completionist achievement for extra info. This achievement is for Ashley.

Do A LOT of side quests. Don't worry if you get one ally first and later the other.  You can get two per playthrough only. It is possible to get these achievements even before going to Ilos if you complete every possible side quest and all main missions. Bring Down the Sky DLC will also help.

Refer to this thread for some insight to these achievements.

Basic plan of attack for ally achievements:

  • Complete Eden Prime
  • Go to Citadel, talk to Council
  • Find Harkin (Chora's Den), Garrus (Med Clinic) and Wrex (C-Sec)
  • Take care of Fist (do not pick up his OSD!)
  • Rescue Tali in the Wards Access
  • Talk to Council, become Spectre
  • Head to Therum and rescue Liara

From here, you will have all the allies. Pick the two you want to use and use them for EVERYTHING. If you don't have an ally with decryption and need them to unlock a quest by hacking a computer, switch them in to receive the quest, then immediately go back and switch them out.

Now with your two allies:

  • Complete any possible Citadel assignment
  • Complete any random space assignments (check this list and see which ones can be acquired simply by visiting a system or planet)
  • Complete Bring Down the Sky missions (400MSP off the marketplace)
  • Complete Noveria (do all assignments BEFORE leaving the arrival site)
  • Complete Feros (do all assignments BEFORE leaving the arrival site)
  • Go back to the Citadel and complete any assignments you started on Noveria/Feros
  • Complete Virmire (do not kill Wrex!)
  • Back to the Citadel once more

You should have the achievements by now, but if you don't, head to Ilos and finish out the game. Many people got a few of the achievements (mainly Liara) at the very last mission.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANY COLLECTION ASSIGNMENTS FOR THESE ACHIEVEMENTS! -- These missions take forever, and they will help, but they are 100% not required to get ANY of the achievements, even Liara.

You can pick up the OSD, (the OSD is the games form of a USB disk drive, you get this when Fist is killed), and it won't effect your game play or achievement(s). I picked it up several times in my runnings of the game and it didn't stop me from getting the achievement. Also you don't have to Speak to Hakin, and do it the Shadow Brokers way. Also you dont even have to Head to Therum and rescue Liara, you can forget about her if you want to, but its a mission and will help you aid to the character achievements< (wish you can skip this for when doing the hardcore game rush). Also Wrex has been killed when doing this so that dont really factor in it much, unless your using him, then that just bad, lol. Also collecting things helps move through it faster then forgetting about them, (plus the ex

(plus the extra money and exp is always great). Also you can get the achievement for the person way before the ending of the game, and if you have Pinnacle Station dlc that helps a lot more the bring down the sky dlc, but use both it helps a lot.

The ally achievements does the character just have to be available or do i need to have 2 of them with me, and only getting the achievement for those 2?

you have to use the same 2 ally characters throughout the gameplay while completing as many missions as possible. not to hard just time consuming!!!

Just unlocked this achievement, took me a total of 54 missions (side and main combined, with DLC) to get it. Haven't unlocked it for my other squad member though.

It only took me 47 missions to get this. About 25-30 side missions and I complete the game up to the point where I was locked down at the Citadel. If you havent gotten the achievement at that point then dont go directly to Ilos and scan the hell out of the other systems and complete as many side missions as you can till it pops.

Just an FYI from experience, I believe it is best NOT to do Kaiden and Garrus at the same time due to them being in the only allies with Tech (unless Shepherd is an Engineer). You can get by without them by using Omni-gel to unlock things, but it gets costly after a while. My main is a soldier - which makes Insanity much easier - so which is how I ran into this problem.

Also, DO NOT do Ashley and Kaiden at the same time. It is nearly impossible to complete them both on the same playthrough.

I think the optimal way to go through these while doing the Normal/Hardcore/Insanity completion achievements.
Normal: Kaiden & Tali
Hardcore: Garrus & Liara
Insanity: Wrex & Ashley

You could do Liara first if you wanted to, but I didn't know what was going on when I first played this

lol @ OSD scare. the only reason people will say dont grab it, is because that will start the assignment for emily wong. do not start any assignments until you are using the squaddies you want for achv (scan keepers, grab osd ect..)

Just so you all know, I'm on my first play-through, stuck with Wrex and Tali for my team, I've not even done Virmire but have completed the two DLCs and as many little missions as I can and have just got the 2 relevant cheevies for partners - I got Quarian before I started Pinnacle, but got Krogan after finishing Pinnacle... note that I'm currently level 47 after beating the Pinnacle DLC, and just about to head to Virmire after I check out my new house ;-)

Best way to do this is to go for two bios/techs first (normal) playthrough, and save soldiers for the Inaanity. And themishkin; if you have both Ash and Kaiden in your team, it is possible - just do all the side quests before you head to Virmire. It'll pop long before you get there. And Kaiden and Garrus are not your only techs. Both Tali and Liara have tech abilities.

Hey guys, quick question. Does it matter if I start the assignments before I pick up the characters I'm attempting to get the 'cheevo for?
Like, I only completed the missions that are required to pick up Liara. However, I started about 10 or so assignments beforehand. Basically, I just want to know if those assignments will still count if I complete them with Liara now.

I started playing Mass Effect less than a week ago, so that I could be ready for Mass Effect 1. Here's the best way to get everything in the game:

-Complete the prologue on Eden Prime normally.
-Follow the main mission on the Citadel without completing ANY side missions. They'll be around for I believe the rest of the game, and can be collected after becoming a Spectre. Here's what to do:
-Go to the Citadel and talk to the Counsel.
-Go straight to Chora's Den and talk to the drunk former C-Sec guy who knows where Garrus is. Kill the guys there and leave with Garrus.
-optional: go talk to the Volus who works in the Citadel's Financial District.
-At the C-Sec area, meet up with Wrex.
-Go to Chora's Den again and get through the minions to meet Fist. Defeat him (you re

If I don't get Ash or Kaidan before Virmire, should I keep one of them with me and semd the other one with STG?

I played 3 times, and I always head back to the bomb. I don't want to do that anymore lol.

What are the easiest side missions to do aside from the citadel and dlc? I don't have the dlc, and i've tried a couple of the UNC one's and they're bloody hard and i'm only playing on normal. It sucks -_-

@28...I'm doing the same thing. I've completed Bring Down the Sky and almost every other mission so far short of doing Virmire. Working on Pinnacle Station now, plus still have the Wrex & Garrus missions to do still. I plan on making a save before I head to Virmire, going through that mission and choosing the character I don't plan on taking to ME2 to survive and hoping the achievement unlocks for them right after Virmire. Then going back to my pre-Virmire save and playing it again with the one I plan on taking with my current Shepard into ME2 so I can unlock the achievement it for that one too. It's going to be a pain, but I think it's the best way to be able to get them on this playthrough. What really sucks is that on my first playthrough, I kept mixing my squad up so I ended up n

For some stupid reason, not only am I trying to do both Ashley and Kaiden in the same playthrough, BUT it has been so long since I last played that I did a few sidequests on the citadel without either of them in the party... and then subbed in Ashley but NOT Kaiden (the one I plan to have killed) for a few more...
>_>
AND I'm not doing Wrex's family armour sidequest because I want to kill him on Virmire...
... Hyeah ... I'm probably gonna fail this horribly.
At least I've got the DLC, in case that helps. No idea as far as Pinnacle Station goes, but BDTS does.

Well, I just got Ashley's achievement the moment I finished Bring Down The Sky ... so Kaiden's shouldn't be too far away. I've got a few side-assignments to do before Virmire becomes the only option, so with any luck I won't have to do any save-scumming.

Aaaaand I got it...

Lesson learnt here : If you have Bring Down The Sky, you can get Ashley and Kaiden in one playthrough even if you arse around on the Citadel and don't take stuff too seriously. You just gotta make up for it by scouring the galaxy of landable planets.

I just got the achievement, and believe me that you don't need to do all the assignments to get it, this is what I did:
1- Do all the recruitment missions once you get to the Citadel(Garrus, Wrex, Tali)
2- Become an Spectre, and leave to rescue Liara
3- Get back to the citadel an save your game in a separate slot and leave it there cause it'll come in handy after
4- Select the allies you want get the achievement for
5- Do all Citadel assignments including the UNC you get on the Citadel
6- Do all Noveria(assignments and mission)
7- Do all Feros(assignments and mission)
8- Do Bring down the sky DLC(X57 assignment)
9- Do Garrus, Wrex, Tali's assignments(you unlock that through talking to them)
10- Do about 8-9 UNC assignments
11- Do all Virmire(assignments and mission)
