Obtain title of MARKHOR

This is a Metal Gear Solid 3 achievement.

To obtain the title of Markhor, you need to get every food and medicinal item and finish the game. There is a total of 48 food/medicinal items you need to get in order to receive the Markhor title. Just kill every animal you can and get the item they drop. You may eat all of them as well if you want to. The game keeps track of everything you ate in a history, which you can access through the cure menu (history -> food history).

It's important to note that you can only carry 3 tranquilized animals. If you get an enemy tranquilized in order to capture it but already have 3 on your inventory, you'll have to discard or eat one of your captured animals. Be careful not to eat the Tsuchinoko if you got it.

Also, when you get to Svytagornyj South, you'll notice EVERY medicinal plant is there. However, you may have a full inventory of medicinal items already, because there is plenty of them around (and the plants occupy the same space as normal medicinal items). If this happens, you won't be able to get the plants, and there's no way to discard medicinal items. A good way to fix this is by going back one area, getting an alert and letting the guards shoot you until you have something to heal on the Survival Viewer. Then, before actually healing it, waste items that have nothing to do with the wound (in order to free space on your inventory). You only have to use one of each of the following to free space: C Med, Splint, Disinfectant, and Styptic. After this, just get one of each plant and you're good to go.

Not sure but isn't this for eating/capturing all 47 plants/animals in the game?

Ok so i got this one last night, When it comes down to it you have to eat/capture all 48 plants and animals. some i captured with the mk22 and ate. others i shot with the
M19 and ate. i started sweating towards the end thinking i wouldnt get it cuz i didnt tranq everything, but i got it.

also to correct my statement above the ends parrot is usually on the roof of the supply shack in sokrovenno south. (just to the left of the ends starting position.) and i never came across any special hornets nest for the pain i ate the baltic hornets nest, (which is the basic one) and got it.the 3 snakes are in the last area where you fight the boss each snake is next to one of the 3 logs. but they are white so they blend in well.

Carry a few hornets nests into the battle with The Pain, then let his hornets swarm you, they'll turn the nests in your pack into The Pain's Hornet Nests. (I think)

Can anyone confirm #6's notion that you don't need the Pain's hornet nest? Just double checking...

I can confirm you do NOT need the Pain's Hornet Nest. I ate a single hornet's nest (I believe during Virtuous Mission) and I got the achievement no problem.

I have done this 3 times now, all to find out you need the medical plants also, and if your inventory is full you need to be injured and use those items for it to count as you picking them up, HOW FUCKING WONDERFUL. Fuck this shit. I have collected everything 3 times through, once at the start, I missed 2 things, last time I didnt get it because i got the infinity paint rank, and this time, a complete fucking waste of time. Thanks for NOBODY fucking informing us on this.

Okay. I've noticed a few people complaining about this. First off, you do NOT need to eat any of the items in question. As long as you've had them in your backpack/food section you're fine. Eating them just allows you to see what you have eaten in the stats, so it's easier to keep track of them.
If you need to get all the 'herbs' you don't need to run around like a mad man trying to find them. I found them all in one area. After you've recieve the key for the warehouse door and go through it to Svyatogornyj East, you can find all 4 'herbs' needed for this achievement. If you use the thermal goggles they show up hot white.
Hopefully this helps.

It isn't you need to eat them its you need to have obtained them at some point during 1 playthrough. They can perish or you can throw them away. This has always been how it is even back during the PS2. It isn't required to eat everything just that they are all logged that they were obtained at some point. And like I said before its in 1 playthrough as its a end title you get for the mission.

I am glad they brought these back and put them on the 360, I have them all on the PS2 and I have both their ordinary versions and then I have a copy of the special versions Substance, and Subsistance. I can't always play my PS2 though so this was nice, wish they had included MGS1 though as that is how this game should've been, all 3 of the first ones.

Is there any one item that most people have a hard time finding? About to start this and wanted to know what I should really bhelm the lookout for, apart from the rare snakes and tsuchinoko? It seems a lot of people miss the medicinal plants. You don't have to use those plants right? Just as long as they're in your inventory?

Well annoyed now missed the King Cobra, apparently last opportunity to get this is while fighting Ocelot. Going to have to replay entire game cause only realised after Groznyj Grad. Well give at least I'm on track this play through to get Snake Eyes, Fashionista, Only Skin Deep and PEACE WALKER achievements. Just this one then 100% on Snake Eater Achievements. Fun begins getting Virtually Impossible and Great Dane achievements for Sons of Liberty.

So does progress for this carry over between playthroughs? I got 45 on the first, will it pop if I get the remaining 3 in the next one?

@21

No, that won't work unfortunately. The Facepaints and the Kerotan are persistent across multiple playthroughs. The animals and plants needed for this achievement are not.
