Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Achievements

It Ain't Easy Being Green

Find all 64 Kerotans

This is a Metal Gear Solid 3 achievement.

MGS3 achievement. Every area in the game has a hidden Kerotan. You need to find all of them and shoot them. They will make a funny noise when you hit them. Do this to all 64 of them and you’ll get your achievement. Some of them are missable, so if you ever feel like you've passed an area you won't be able to return to and didn't find the Kerotan, don't overwrite your save. Load your last save and try to find the Kerotan. This applies to the bike chase near the ending, for example.

Kerotan shooting is cumulative, so if you miss any on your first playthrough, you can shoot it on your second playthrough and still get the achievement. Just take note of the ones you missed, because the game doesn't provide a way to keep track of this.

For videos of every location, refer to this thread.

Never got around to doing this back in 2006 so I guess I'll make up for it in 2012 (^

@2 yep I remember spending ages on that bit and you can't really tell if you've shot them or not so you gotta just play to the end

#2 - Yes they are.

Kudos if you bought the Prima players guide only to find out that for the last five or six (motorcycle chase and on), they just had "????" listed, because they had no idea where they were.

This will be a toughie for already mentioned reasons. But another reason to do
this is because you get stealth camo for get all 64 which will make the
Peace Walker achievement and Extreme difficulty a cakewalk.

#8, unless they changed it so that you CAN change difficulties for New Game +, it wouldn't help on Extreme at all.

And, in general, what if you just figured out the general location of where a Kerotan is going to be while on the bike, and just took a machine gun to them? At least one buller would hit.

I just got the one on the Runway during the Motorcycle chase. I used the Patriot and just held the trigger down in that direction. Then I checked with the Microphone to hear it croak. This is an effective strategy for that one.

i'm working on this achievement right now and so far from the original, there has been one frog that has been changed from the original PS2 version. During Snake eater mission, on the bridge, instead of the frog being on the post high up, it's on the hill next to the post where it was originally supposed to be. I will post any other changes as soon as i find them.

@14 Not so. Its on top of the post on the South side of the bridge during the Virtuous Mission, then when you return during Operation Snake Eater, a different Kerotan is on the hill to the East of the North side of the bridge.
Basically there are 5 of them unique to the Virtuous Mission. They are replaced by different ones during Snake Eater.

My advice for the bike chase is have to save in every new area, esp if you actually hit the kerotan in the previos one.... If you think you hit one but aren't sure make a new save file, if you hit the one during the fight with The Boss and the achievement doesn't unlock, then you know it didn't count it and you can go back and try again

Wasn't their some camo that helped with this on the PS2?

Boring achievement. The 59th kerotan (bike after shahogod) is a pain to get if you are trying to earn the "Peace Walker" achievement at the same time to this one.

This guide works well for this achievement:

Doesn't describe the locations, but gives pictures instead (which I've found work a lot better than some site's descriptions).

I finished my first play through earlier, knowing that I missed a single Kerotan. So I started a second play through, got it, but no achievement. Is there any way to know which Kerotans I've already hit? Maybe I don't get the achievement until the end of the game...

I just completed my 5th playthrough on the same save file. The last two runs I've been systematically shooting every every Kerotan following this guide:

I saved at each section during bike chase, and kept restarting the game and reloading until I could confirm the 'waka waka' sound for each kerotan with D-mic.

My last playthrough (just now), I was using the EZ gun which I had unlocked in my previous playthrough where I got King of the Jungle. I've been playing on easy.

I'm baffled why I did not earn the achievement this time around.

Guess I'll start a new game...

I found out I were in fact missing two Kerotans: in Dremuchij Swampland and Dremuchij South during Operation Snake Eater. I've always just progressed onwards after meeting EVA, but you need to backtrack to these areas which are the first two areas of the Virtuous Mission.

You do not have to start a new game to get this achievement. If you continue through the game again use the kerotan suit if you already got that kerotan you will not hear the call. When on the motorcycle part when you enter an area save. That way if you miss it just go back to the main screen and then load.

I usually don't bother with Achievements unless-

A) There really damn easy. Like Saints Row 3
B) There Nostalgic. Games like these that have been ported to the the 360 and pretty sure PS3 Trophies would usually have Achievements based on things people usually did in these old games. In fact most of the games I have full achievements on are Classics.

Though I do remember it fondly hunting these Green Bastards down, It's still kind of and easy achievement.
