Microsoft Flight

Microsoft Flight Achievements

Land a fixed wing aircraft backwards.

This achievement has been known to randomly unlock, however, your best chance to unlock it normally will be Maule landing challenge 6. Once you get to the other side of the observatory, turn the plane around and fly into the wind. Wait until you pass it again, and decrease the power of the aircraft to less than 75%. You should start flying backwards because of the strong wind. Land on the ground and the achievement will unlock.

Sounds like a hard one but fun!

Presumably, you need to stall and land by rolling your nose down / pushing the tail back? Maybe easier or safer in a seaplane?

If you can control the weather, then you'll want to set the wind speed very high, with a headwind of > then the landing speed of your aircraft, so something like 90 knots in a Cessna 172.

Anyone get this yet?

No, I've been trying this morning, but the weather controls are very limited and you can't actually control the amount of wind you get.

Must be a simple way of doing it.......

I just got it. Have no clue how. I was on the runway with 1% fuel. Using the free Boeing plane (yellow one) I left my throttle at 0% and when my fuel ran out the achievement popped.. Dunno if it will work for anyone else or if it was just a stroke of luck. But worth a shot I guess

Same here, no luck with reproducing it. Does anyone have different ideas or methods?

I've been getting close to the achievement... I use the stearman and take off with the wind, get going to about 75kts and then stall it out. Just as it is stalling hit the rudder and it starts a spin. Let it go 180 degrees and correct. You should now be going backwards. This is the tricky part where the wind makes the difference. The higher the wind the softer the landing. I've been trying to find a spot that can get some good gusts and then save that free-flight spot, but no luck yet with that.

I just got this achievement via what has to be a glitch. While aerocache hunting I went to Hilo Intl to refuel and to grab the aerocache there, and as soon as I loaded on the runway the achievement popped. Maybe my Boeing PT-17 spawned an inch off the ground and a stray gust of wind pushed me back as I "landed." I doubt it can be reproduced, but in case it matters I was also playing multiplayer at the time. Good luck to all trying to get this one!

If you choose the same runway in multiplayer you spawn on top of each other. Maybe if the player underneath moves forward the second player might get the achievement. Will have a go next time I play with friends.

@Im Justa Newb
I'm trying the same, I have set the weather to "Up with the giants" or whatever the top option is as it seems to have the most reliable winds of around 20 knots by default.

Keep getting close but no luck getting the landing right just yet.

Definitly a random unlock. I got it on Runway 16 Barking Sands upon simply starting up a flight in the RV-6.

Got this somehow by gently maneuvering the Icon A5 to the the dock-side of the cruise ship (on the water in the small gap between the cruise ship and the dock) then trying to take off into the ferry with 100% throttle.

I got this on the Kayaker rescue mission by running ashore up some steep rocks and then letting it slide back down into the water.

I just got this. I chose Among The Giants weather, then I went to Bradshaw airport, then I left the game window so that it can pause. When I hit resume, it popped up
